Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Go along for the ride.......2001-08-17

Reel Tight hails from Chattanooga, Tenn. The album blends funk, R&B, hip-hop and soul.

The first single, "(Do You) Wanna Ride," is a mid-tempo track, but one of the best songs on the album is "I Want U," a funky dance track with a strong bass line.

The song is easy to grove to, just like the majority of the album. Reel Tight remakes the classic Earth, Wind and Fire hit "Reasons" and gives it an updated but true-to-the-original twist.

Other tracks include "Sittin In The Club," which features New Edition and BBD member Ronnie DeVoe, "Don't Wake Me" with a rap by Warren G, and the gospel-inspired tune "Thank You Lord."

4 out of 5 stars A fan for over 15 years.......2000-09-29

I hated to give Reel Tight a less that perfect score. But, I had to. Unfortunately, the best album, in my opinion, was the one they recorded in Reggie's basement back in 1992. It was a culmination of rearrangements of BoysIIMen singles. This was a replication of four-part stacking done impecablly. Too bad they never released it. I am just glad the world has awakened and resurrected to such a harmonic overture entitled,"Back to the Reel" Who was the canadian dunce that said Next, or 112, or whoever could hold a candle to these distinguished palates? If you see this, sir, I hope you realize you stand alone in this sight.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as Jodeci, Dru Hill etc.......1999-12-23

For tru heads, this Group seems unimaginative and a rip off of the original bad boys of R&B, Jodeci. While smooth and taletned, this group poses no threat to take the throne from, groups like Next and Dru Hill. Not a must have but a good spin.

5 out of 5 stars A great C.D!!!!!!!!!.......1999-09-20

This is absolutely my favorite C.D.!! These guys harmonize perfectly!! My favorite songs are Lady and Reasons. I have practically worn this C.D. out!!! I also love the fact that they're fellow Tennesseeans!!

4 out of 5 stars (Do You) Wanna Ride, No More Pain. . . the two sides of Love.......1999-06-10

I first heard Reel Tight on their single (Do You) Wanna Ride, and it blew me away! These boys can sing about anything from making love to broken hearts, and they CAN sing! This CD is a requirement for anyone who likes Boyz II Men, Men of Vizion, BLACKStreet and especially Dru Hill; any of the soft swooners that make r&b music kick ass and take numbers. It's got alot of slow songs, but it's fast songs, like (Do You) Wanna Ride with Cam'ron (remix) makes you bounce. Chalk this one up on your 'must have' list.

      Album Description

Ever since his days as the guitarist for Genesis, Steve Hackett has been setting new standards for his instrument. Matchless versatility combined with extraordinary passion has transformed him through time into a musician's musician. In addition to his work in progressive rock, Steve Hackett has also shown remarkable dedication in the pursuit of his classical side. To date he has released 5 acoustic/classical albums, and has appeared as the featured soloist with the London Chamber Orchestra, earning the respect of both rock contemporaries and classical figures alike.

Metamorpheus, the latest project, is the natural successor to 1997's A Midsummer Night's Dream (which spent several weeks in the UK classical charts). It combines nylon strung guitar with orchestra, seamlessly merging small and large musical forces.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best of his acoustic albums.......2005-08-09

Hackett hops back and forth between the classical music and progressive rock worlds, and has had hit and misses in both. Happily, this is one of his most diverse and atmospheric classical accomplishments. Even fans who prefer his progressive work might find this a satisfying listen, since it occasionally echoes some of his Genesis era pastoral guitar interludes. Even though I greatly enjoyed "A Midsummer Night's Dream" this new CD seems more cohesive and satisfying overall. It's a lovely creation.

      2 out of 5 stars retrocedamos 150 años.......2005-05-05

4 out of 5 stars Superb concept well executed.......2005-05-03

Dealing with the mythology was always a formidable strongpoint for Steve Hackett. That he is one of the finest nylon string guitar players in the world only enhances the wonder, the lyricism and the sophistication of his tales. He is not a singer by any means, but it's his hands that tell the story. "Blood On The Rooftops" from the Genesis days is just one of the many extraordinary examples of the sophistication he brought to rock, invoking the legend of Passover into the backdrop of American TV violence and the Israeli-Palestinian cross-fire.
On this latest disc, moving away from social commentary, Shakespeare and back into Greek mythology, Hackett along with his cadres have created a classical masterpiece. The integration of the instruments is subtle. The pacing of the tale is dead-on. His fingerpicking and plectrum work set him apart from both classical and rock contemporaries. I can think of only Steve Howe, with whom he shared an entirely unsuccessful collaboration that played to none of their strengths (GTR), and Sharon Isbin, I can think of no other contemporary guitarist with that capacity for storytelling as well as finesse. Hackett must surely channel John Dowland, both thematically and stylistically. It is a chamber work on offer here, more baroque than classical, but it is one of the ways in which ancient myth informs us of the perils of our particular age.
This is a significant addition to the canon of guitar music.

4 out of 5 stars More guitar, please.......2005-04-18

I enjoy most all of Hackett's music, especially his acoustic albums. My only disappointment is that the guitar is not featured even more. No doubt this composition reflects his vision and all, but I was left wanting more of his nylon-string virtuosity. I found his 1997 "Midsummer Night's Dream" a little more satisfying in this regard.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully melodic combo of classical guitar with orchestra.......2005-04-16

Lush and romantic setting with just the right amount of edge for the story of Orpheus's voyage to the underworld. Upon a few listens I found many of the melodies were very memorable. Nice original music that nods occasionally to Ravel and Morricone yet quite original. The guitar playing is super as are the orchestral players. Very well engineered too. Found this a more balanced effort than Hackett's Midsummer's CD that also featured a guitar and orchestra setting.

Are you tired of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys cranking out nauseating bubble gum to America's airwaves? Getting a little peeved by angry alternative music that makes you want to kick the nearest innocent bystander? What you need is some fresh, original music, where lyrics are actually interesting and the sound is anything but commercialized.

Delivering just what you may need is a fun, independent band straight out of Chicago who call themselves the Leftovers.

The Leftovers music is best described as rock complimented by a definate country influence to form a rare treat in music. Their new CD, 57 to Nowhere, was released on April 19, 2001 with 10 original songs by the band that range from a good dose of honkey tonk to pure rock and roll. From the lead track, Rodeo Bullfighter to the accoustic melody of Causing Cofusion completing the album, each song is cleaver both musically and lyrically. The full length CD is peppered with all of the good things in life worth singing about--love, women and plenty of booze.

The Leftovers consist of four Chicago natives. Frontman Tim Moran does most of the vocal work as well as some guitar playing. He is joined by Rodney Allott, bass player who lends a deep, resonating voice not only to back up but also adds a nice change by singing lead on the song Light In Charleston. Additional vocals along with the responsibility of lead guitar go to Mark Petranek, whom has been with the band for a year now, while Tom Weselak takes care of the drums.

Although the Leftovers consider Chicago home, the band relocated for two years to the Tempe, Arizona music scene whick has helped fuel the bands love and direct influence in music flavored with southwestern style from bands like the now defunct Refreshments and the current Phoneix area favorites, The Peacemakers.

Having returned from the desert, The Leftovers are currently playing around Chicagoland and promoting their new album. CD's are available through their web site at www.chicagoleftovers.com or at shows. For more information on future gigs, log onto the bands website and click on shows.

The Leftovers, as with many bands, are best heard live where the charisma of the band really comes through. They combine a playlist consisting of their original tunes as well as covers ranging from Steve Earle, the Refreshments and Tim McGraw to Tom Petty, Stroke 9 and even a little bit of Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive if Moran has an Irish Car Bomb or too much tequila before the end of the night.

So leave your home without the fear of being consumed by what big wig music moguels think you should enjoy and discover one of the many great local independent bands. Bring your friends, forget Britney Spears and get ready to tap your toes and do some shots of tequila along with The Leftovers.

5 out of 5 stars Children of the Corn.......2000-02-09

First there was the Holy Bible, then there was Koran, then there was Blue Train (Coltrane), then there was It Takes A Nation of Millions, then there was Midnight Marauders, then there was Things Fall Apart and now there is Four Track Mind! These guys represent the epitome of the late '90s hip hop exodous into areas other than NY and LA. For years most of what was coming out of the Midwest (even Chicago) was poorly produced, two-bit gangster garbage that was a far cry from anything on the west coast in that arena. Now it is clear from the Mudkids, Common, and others that the heartland represents some of the most original and listner friendly hip-hop on the planet.

DJ El-Mass has put together some of the absolute finest basslines and sample beds that have ever been produced. They have been described as hypnotic and infectious. He pulls sounds form all over the world to meld into something that has never been produced in this manner, before or since. MC cHoc has the larnyx to get the job done on the vocals, firing smooth, tight vocal arramgements that perfectly complement the EL-MAss sound. It is unprecedented!

I hope that these kids can stay together and that people start buying there stuff. My understanding is that there live show, opening for the likes of Wu-Tang, Rage Against the Machine, the Roots, Ghostface Killah, Lauryn Hill and a slew of former greats (Run-DMC, Mix-A-Lot, etc.), is the best yet.

5 out of 5 stars 4track Mind, Body, Soul, and Spirit.......1999-09-30

I would wager that not more than .0000000001 percent of the world has heard the music of the Mudkids, much less seen them live. That only means that 99.99999999 of the world is just that much less musically fulfilled. If you endeavor to call yourself a hip-hop fan, or go the whole 9 and label yourself a head, a b-boy, or a b-girl, you must have this album. Listen to it, at which point you must either realize the artistic depth and yet, hip-hop purism, or quit calling yourself one of the aforementioned names. This is Hip-hop, Not in the sociological-economic terms KRS-One would have us apply. Nor is it the geographically defined street "realism" where Biggie and Tupac reign as Deities. No, this is hip-hop where Miles Davis, plays the horn, Bob James and Billy Joel play on dueling pianos with Monk composing, Kurtis Blow and Kool DJ Herc pick out the beats, and Rakim and William Shakespeare battle rhyme. All of these ecclectic influences channel their way into Dj El Mass's carefully constructed tracks, and through MC Choc SoReel's microphone. This is taking your roots into the Future, this is rhyming Gretzky with Jet Ski, and then going Al Green style for the Ladies on the track Fool. And then the Muddies take this all to the stage, where it's back to ass-whupping freestyles, Rhyming over Premier tracks, and ripping the crowd in half. This is Hip-Hop, learn something.

4 out of 5 stars This is what a Hip Hop album should sound like........1999-04-30

This album represents what Hip Hop should sound like.Dope lyrics,a tight flow, bass heavy beats, and infectious scratching. These kids have the talent to blowup in the 99'

5 out of 5 stars This is important music!!.......1999-03-19

The Mudkids have something that everyone should know about; the sound of hip hop in the new millenium. DJ El Mass has create some of the most infectious and creative beat and rythm tracks that I have ever heard. cHoc is a lyrical expert who sounds like he has been in the game for a while.

This is not the typical garbage that crosses over these days. EVERY BEAT IS FRESH!!! There is no pointless ryhming over instrumental hits of yesteryear. It is real and it is right!

With the proper exposure this band has the potential to become a real player! Get it and tell a friend!
