How could you not love this one? A Shogun Named Marcus - totally rocks. El Jefe... Binge and Purge... Effigy... Rats!!! If I could own one album, this would have to be it.

This is one of my favorite albums of all time! If you don't have this album, you need it!
What A Badass Band. .......2006-02-28
Clutch jams, their heavy, and they have a killer front man. This was my 1st intro to Clutch. Every song on here is unlike any you've heard before; I don't think anyone sounds like Clutch. You want the kind of band that's funny as well as serious at the same time, able to deliver their songs with ultimate heaviness while still proving their musical abilities? There you have it. Get on this band now! For any fans of bands that you can party to as well as get into in a serious way. I can't name any other bands that are kind of like Cluch because I don't think anyone sounds like them. Easy 5 star rating here.
Necrosoul.
The first record by the almighty Clutch.......2006-02-25
Was expecting better but was not bad. A bit more raw than much of their other stuff.
I'm not saying rock is dead........2005-12-31
I'm really not.
But how many CDs have come out in the last 10 years that can compete with, "Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes & Undeniable Truths?" How many CDs have this much voracity and groove?
Rock is a retired word. Bands like Audioslave are not rock, they are heavy lounge music. Bands like the White Stripes are not pioneers; they are recyclers with bursts of innovation. I'm not saying Audioslave and the White Stripes are bad, but neither band has a song that rocks like El Jefe Speaks. Or an album that opens up at 90 mils per hour with A Shogun Named Marcus.
There are so many good songs on this album. There are so many good songs on all of Clutch's albums. Clutch is one of those love or hate bands, more love than hate. This is one of Clutch's earlier albums, a little less groove, and a little more rock. I'm not saying that the band doesn't lay down the smooth bassline, and let the song unfold around it, because that certainly does happen (Binge And Purge). Clutch has a healthy amount of musical variety on this album, actually. The first 3 songs, sequentially, are perfect. If those 3 songs were on an EP I would be content.
The whole album is pretty groove-laden. It's just not the same groove that you will find on Robot Hives:Exodus or Blast Tyrant. That's not a bad thing though. Sure, Clutch has warped their sound a bit, but stylistically, they're a similar band today 10 years ago.
That said, "Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes & Undeniable Truths," is a wee-bit heavier than the bands later works. So, if you're expecting keyboards, or vocals that can groove like the bass, you might not want to look here. If you're looking to rock, no-BS, I promise you this album rocks. Sure, it's a tad bit on the heavy side, but it's less punk than COC and almost as groovey as Black Sabbath.

I absolutely love this new recording.......2007-01-24
And have purchased several copies as gifts for friends.
Here's a short description from the CD Baby website:
"In this CD of all new recordings, produced by Jack Hale of Hale House Productions, Seals & Crofts were able to utilize the latest in recording technology, to breathe new life into the classic hits as well as new material. Now you can hear their music, as they always wanted it interpreted. Featured on this collection are Lua Crofts (daughter of Dash Crofts), and Juliet Seals (daughter of Jim Seals)."
So, go and check out the longer (2-minute) song samples over there. You won't be disappointed.
Save your $$, don't buy........2006-12-22
I had high hopes for this CD, I was / am a S&C fan. The quality of the recording and the arrangements of the songs suggest that this must be what it's like to hear S&C in a club that has poor acoustics. The first five songs are classics, the balance are new songs that are forgetful. I'll make you a deal, give me $10.00 and my copy is yours. Save your hard earned money and buy their greatest hits CD. You will be able to remember this first class duet as they should be remembered.
GLAD THAT HAVE THEM BACK !!!.......2006-09-09
This is the First Release from Jim & Dash in DECADES and thank goodness Folks, They are Back!
What we have here in this CD "TRACES" are Brand New Versions of 6 of their best known tunes: "Summer Breeze", "Get Closer", "Diamond Girl", "We May Never Pass This Way Again", "Hummingbird", and "Euphrates" (re-done with new lyrics that reflect what is going on over there right now). The Digital Sound & Production is a 10, the vocals of James Seals & Dash Crofts are a Stellar 11, AND the Talents of Lua Crofts and Juliet Seals (Daughters of Proud Fathers) are a Welcome Surprise.
Not to slight the NEW Songs: "Not Be Found","Change The Cooper Into Gold", "Paint You" & "Love Takes No Prisoners" as they are as Wonderful as anything this Great Duo released way back in the 1970's . I can't say enough about how GOOD this is.... BUY IT NOW whilst it's still in print and Let's Pray the Record Companies...RHINO, RHINO, RHINO...see the light and FINNALY release the Whole Seals & Crofts Catalog on CD with BONUS TRACKS, and don't Forget that JIM & Dash DESERVE a BOX SET RELEASE of at LEAST 4 CD's...
This is a GREAT CD... Don't hesitate to Grab this one up... FIVE STARS...
the Voices, the Musicianship, the Songwriting, the Spirit !.......2006-06-08
Are the voices still great? Yes. Is the guitar, mandolin, and fiddle work what we expect? Yes. Have they stayed true to all that put them in a category of their own while creating new renditions of earlier songs plus new songs? Yes!
The songs:
Summer Breeze - a hint of the mellowness of age comes through here; the joys described are more familiar now, and thus even sweeter because, yes, it can still be this good.
Get Closer - Lovely vocals by Lua Crofts and Juliet Seals are just part of the re-invention of this song.
Diamond Girl - a bit jazzier version.
We May Never Pass This Way Again - oh, but we hope they will, on tour, please? I'd love to go to another of their concerts. Their legendary harmony is evident here.
Hummingbird - awesome a cappella intro - then I'm tapping my foot, and by the end I feel like I've been taken on a spiritual journey.
Not Be Found - sung as if sharing precious secrets.
Change the Copper into Gold - a new masterwork with east meets west instrumentation and impeccable vocal intricacies.
Paint You - new, mature, gentle love song.
The Euphrates - what?! Hit the replay. Wow. Hit the replay.
Love Takes No Prisoners - a new song of love and longing. And then they run away.
An independent production by Jack Hale for Hale House Productions.
Each of their albums must be remastered and issued on cd. I'm waiting for that and the next work they hint at on these liner notes. Come back, we want more!
Excellent reworking of some of their classics!.......2005-11-19
I don't profess to know why their label wouldn't consider working with them in remastering their body of work into an all-encompassing "Ultimate Collection". All I do know is there are a great number of people who would love to replace their worn out LPs and noisy CDs with a first-class remastering of their work. I am one of them. I have all their CDs, including "Traces" and long for more.
"Traces" is a great improvement over their "Greatest Hits" CD release for the absolute absence of any tape hiss, the rich harmonies and perfect delivery of many of their 70's hits. "Traces" can only be found "new" on a small independent online label: [...], or perhaps once in a gray moon "used" here on Amazon. This CD release is of exceptional musical quality, having lush back up vocals by their own daughters, and a crystal-clear deliverance of many of their past hits. I am not a professional critic, nor a musician any more. But, I recognize quality when I hear it and this CD is a first class project.
I know you will enjoy this CD as much I do. I only wish they'd consider touring again.

Album Description
Christine Kane's fifth CD is titled "Right Outta Nowhere," but Christine is coming from anywhere but nowhere. In a career that has spanned ten years and thousands of miles on the road, Christine has released four CDs on her own record label, Firepink Music. With growing record sales and increasing national exposure, her label is now a thriving business with its own in-house publicist and booking agent.
Christine's last CD "Rain & Mud & Wild & Green" was named Best of 2003 (Folk category) by Borders Books & Music and was critically acclaimed by national and local press, from "The Washington Post" to "The Dallas Morning News." The raw mix of acoustic textures and rhythms, Christine's earthy and elegant voice and her poignant lyric purity all combined to provide a refreshingly real work of art that has given her a place among the most popular touring acts in the acoustic world. Produced by Ben Wisch, "Rain & Mud & Wild & Green" continues to be a sales success.
Her new release, "Right Outta Nowhere" promises to continue the upward momentum with a full national radio and press campaign and is already garnering high praise from within the music industry. Produced by Christine and Dave Pomeroy, and featuring some of Nashville's most prominent musicians, "Right Outta Nowhere" is a convergence of lyrical poetry, song craft, and acoustic perfection. Songs like "Overjoyed" and "The Good You Do" celebrate both the vulnerability and strength of the human spirit with haunting grace, while others like "Nowhere Left to Go" and "Whole Other World" (co-written with veteran hit songwriter Steve Seskin) leap effortlessly into the realm of mass market appeal. The end result is a testimony to an artist on the verge of deserved national recognition who comes seemingly "Right Outta Nowhere."
Customer Reviews:
I hoped for more that I got........2005-12-03
I first heard Christine Kane in 1997. It was a small concert venue, and she was really inspiring -- both her lyrics and her stage personality. I still love my autographed copy of "A Thousand Girls."
But I have been so disappointed with her two most recent albums. The music keeps getting more sophisticated and beautiful. The lyrics are stuck, thematically and emotionally, in the same place they were in 1997. As a result, this music no longer sounds fresh to me, and no longer inspires.
I bought Right Outta Nowhere hoping that R&M&W&G was just an anomaly. From the opening lines of the first track, I thought, "It's another Christine Kane song about a woman trying to get away from the oppressive expectations of her family so she can be true to herself." Maybe this is unfair. After all, how many songs are there about there about people having been left by their loves, or finding true love, or regretting lost opportunities, or whatever? But there seems to be a deeper rut here. "Four Legs Good Two Legs Bad" is fun, but the cat hair in the tofu seems an awful lot like it's been sitting around since it did its duty in the kitchen on "(No Such Thing As) Girls Like That" on R&M&W&G.
So, in all, I'm disappointed. From the one live track on Right Outta Nowhere, I think I would still really enjoy seeing Christine in concert. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to matter a whole lot what's on the playlist.
Be inspired to follow your heart!.......2005-06-20
This album is profound and inspiring. I stumbled into a performance by Christine in Fairfax, VA and bought the CD. I love it! The lyrics put into the words many of the feelings and thoughts I have. The CD will inspire you to take a chance and the leap of faith you have been wanting or needing to take.
modern day joni mitchell.......2005-04-12
and I say that because of the influence her music is having on people's lives. Not only is the music beautiful, but it's written with the purpose of serving others. You're bound to feel refreshed/empowered after meditating on the lyrics of "Right Outta Nowhere", "Overjoyed", and "Made of Steel".
Buy both of her albums and back up copies to spare. Chances are you'll let a friend borrow it and they won't give it back!
Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad.......2004-12-02
This cut alone is worth the price of the CD. Any gal who's ever loved a critter, this one's for you.
Right Outta Nowhere...and into your CD player.......2004-07-31
If you are going to buy one album this year, this is the one! (And if you're going to buy two, get Christine's last album, Rain and Mud and Wild and Green, if you don't already have it...) Christine's music speaks of all the world's greatest beauty, and serves as a revival for everyone who values friendships, earth, animals and the importance of a good deed. Her unique blend of humor and contemplation can let the average person know they are making a difference in the world, simply by following their heart and doing what is right. On top of that, she is a knockout singer/musician and this album showcases her most subtly sophisticated songwriting arrangements to date. You won't regret owning an album from this songwriter who is quickly making a name for herself.

A fine pop album.......2006-02-18
This is a great collection of songs, written and produced with a fine sense for pop. My head spun the first time I heard Learning to Love the Factory, as I happen to work in one, and they really nailed the experience, which does involve coworkers' meaningless conversations and eating one's lunch in the car. I'd give it five stars, but two of the three vocalists have issues with intonation. Nothing as bad as, say, The Offspring's lead singer; I don't even mind it in most cases, but it is a bit of a distraction and a disappointment, especially as the album is otherwise very well put-together.
Relentlessly catchy.......2005-11-08
Every so often I'm driving in the silence of my car and I begin humming a song that's popped into my head from seemingly nowhere. Then I start singing random parts of the song very loudly, with much gusto. I have probably done this for every song from "The Vice and Virtue Ministry."
The songs are relentlessly catchy geek rock, sort of a lovechild between the Beatles and They Might Be Giants. A few standouts: "A Momentary Vision of the End of the World As Seen Through the Eyes of a Suburban Housewife" is haunting and beautiful. "Drinkin' on the Job" has a cool Ray Lynch/New Age-meets-rock thing going on. "A Proper Rifle Assembly" begins with a cool military beat and builds into this soaring, life-afirming spectacle. And "If you were mine" is good chick-rock fun.
Buy it for your friends. You'll all be singing along.
Indie wit but in (mostly) pretty ditties (not the usual indie slosh that makes you want to curl up and die).......2005-11-04
The title of this review is really horrible.
The first thing I thought when I heard the Happy Bullets was "Oh, 'Of Montreal' but more listenable." The only two things I am lessed-than-pleased about on this record are the choice in opening song (probably my least fav on the record) and something-not-quite-definable that makes the production less than perfect. Oh: and next time, more horns!
Otherwise this is a must have. (And those are pretty minor gripes.)
But besides advising you to give this disk a spin (hipsters and the rest of us alike), I must say: see this band live if you ever have the chance. This record is getting 5 stars from me because (#1 the songwriting, but...) I have seen them live a number of times, and that intelligent-but-uplifting vibe and amazing energy that comes through strong in their live shows can be heard, and remembered, whenever necessary.
Oh! Britpop! Love that whole vibe as well.
Truly Creative!.......2005-09-29
You know what; Austin and Dallas should open an indie music museum consisting of the many, many Texas indie bands, and The Happy Bullets song "Learning To Love The Factory" should be left on repeat on the over head speaker system. It would be this wonderfully mystical place where pot heads, hippies, hippy-pot heads, and music connoisseurs alike could come together and marvel at some of most creative musicians of this nation.
That's the thought that came to my head today riding the Tram to school, listening to this The Happy Bullets debut album, staring into the clouds. It was a high all the pot trips I've gone through in my high school and college years couldn't top... accumulated!
This album is truly remarkable. It is both unique and creative, what more could an indie rock fan want? Besides a special bowl in every CD package: nothing!
The album starts with "Learning To Love The Factory", which really is an aural experience. It just has this mystical subtle sound to it, the harmonies in the background, the soft banjo picking, the soothing vocals, the clouds in the sky.......... After such, the album goes into my personal favorite, the title track, "The Vice And Virtue Ministry". A great song with great melodies. When they are not bending their guitar notes, the singer is creating the same sound effect with his vocals--It's amazing. "Drinking On The Job" solidifies a brilliant opening to this album. The song features a nice synth, which adds to the great 80s sound of the song. "Mr. Gray" is a silly sounding song, and being late to class today, I found particularly funny. "The Disquieting Letter" introduces the brass section of this band. The trumpets and beat make for a New Orleans festival sound. It's a really good song. "A Momentary Vision..." is a somber piece laced with melancholy cellos, pianos, vocals and all. "A Proper Rifle Assembly" is another song similar to "The Disquieting Letter", though only in the fact it brings the brass section back in effect. It sounds more like a sailors theme, however, while "Weights And Measures" has a Beatles-esque rhythm.
Everything else on this album is great in its own sense, with the exception of "If You Were Mine", which finds my proclivity to skip strongest.
Overall, if I had to sum up The Happy Bullets sound, I would say they are like The Beatles collaborating with Modest Mouse collaborating with The Kinks collaborating with The Decemberists collaborating with The Psychedelic Furs. Something I should note about this band is that each member writes their own songs and sings them, so usually you can tell who wrote what by who is singing it. It's something not to be missed!

An Aural Staple.......2006-11-28
sta·ple (st'pl): necessary
This album is one of a handful or so I have come across that can be played over and over again from start to finish without becoming jaded. If you're in to folk and/or singer-songwriter, this is an absolute must-have for you and your collection.
Dean Fields is absolutely AMAZING!.......2005-07-06
I've had this CD for 2 years and I still listen to it on my ipod regularly. Dean is from Virginia and does concerts along the east coast. Check out his website, http://www.deanfields.com. His music is really soothing and hearfelt. To me, his music is reminiscent of earlier Dave Matthews' music. Although if you aren't a fan of them (I'm not HUGE fan of them myself), believe me Dean has his own flavor to his music. This CD is worth checking out. If you want to hear a few of his songs check out the website and listen for free. Also if you send him an email or any feedback he is really good about getting back. But trust me, you should listen to this CD and he is even better in concert (plus most of his college gigs are free)! Lastly, (this is mostly for the ladies) he is beautiful, funny, and talented!!!
Awesome talent!.......2005-07-06
This guy is amazing! I hear that he is even better in concert. He's been playing the east coast for a while now. This album was introduced to me by a friend who lives in Virginia. The music is upbeat, yet has a down to earth feel with a touch of an Irish vibe. Though there isn't much info on Dean Fields on amazon yet, you've just got to take my word for it. Buy it. You won't regret it!

Phat Kat is a rapper who is well known in the Detroit area. This big guy is also known as Ronnie Cash. His album Undeniable is pretty hot. The first song on the album "It's A Wrap" sets the pace for the album. The beats on this album are synthezer and electronic sounding at times. Ronnie Cash is on a mission to change the game. He talks about a lot of the same thing as other rappers-his turf (313), women (hoes), money, and how he is going to change the game. The Undeniable also features appearances from other Barak Records artist Dwele and Slum Village. Phat Kat also has a cut on his album with the original Michigan rapper-MC Breed himself. Stand out cuts on this album include "Shake, Shake, Shake," and "True Story." With more advanced production I can see Phat Kat going far in the game.

This album is so full of Lisa's unique work. She comes across as a genuine person, both on the album and in person. She does not put on airs, and she appreciates her fans. I can hardly wait for the new one due out early 2003.

Awesome blues!.......2005-08-22
This disc is one of the most stellar live compilation blues CD's released in a LONG LONG time. Everything about it says that Bott painstakingly labored over every aspect of this package -- especially the interesting stories that personalize each song, all the players, and the venues where many of the songs were recorded. If you are a fan of the blues, you'll be blown away by these tracks! Though the tracks are in fact from several different analog sources (mainly cassette tapes) kudos to Bott on having the courage to put out such diverse recordings. They show a true understanding of what 'the blues' is all about -- how live and improvised performances are integral to its tradition and history. If you are a real blues fan, then there is no way on earth this CD will let you down! That being said, fans of seriously good music played by exceptional musicians will also enjoy this CD.
If you like what has become the norm -- watered-down "slick" recordings with no soul, feeling or improvisation -- then don't buy this CD! But, if you want to step out of the box , take a journey side-stepping back in time to places where music was live and being created on the spot, then give this CD a listen. It promises to bring you into the very rooms where these performances went down. You'll feel as if you were there sipping a beer, downing a shot and cheering on the band with your friends by your side!

Throughout all his years of gigs drumming with Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers and most recently the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimi Bott, like so many other musicians, has a vast collection of his bootleg live performances. For this CD, Jimi has gone into his private collection for some of his finest vintage recordings. There are seven special moments with Mighty Flyers from 1987 to 1992 to accurately capture all the raw energy of that nightly West coast blues explosion. On the first song, he's nailing a sharp, double shuffle behind Rod's chromatic work on "The Eliminator." This is a brilliant reminder of how Rod starts off every show with high flyin', over the top energy. Bott's next song, "That's What You Do to Me," is a rare Mighty Flyer treat from 1987 with Junior Watson on guitar. This song comes from one of Bott's first gigs with the Flyers, a Battle of the Harmonicas in San Francisco. The crowd noise picked up by the tiny recorded adds to the authenticity.
No Flyer show was complete without Bott and Honey doin' a brilliant drum piano surge. Here, Jimi shares two of those moments. Instead of pressing songs we all know, Bott asked Honey for something unique and she responded with "The Bumble Boogie/The Nutcracker" medley. It's pure classical meets boogie woogie with an Alex Schultz guitar bridge holdin' it together. Bott and Honey recreate the big bands of the 1930's on Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing." And Alex Schultz's "Jam Up" is a favorite to be played over and over because it perfectly captures the spontaneity of the Mighty Flyers. the final Flyers' song ends the CD with the Piazza's deepest blues, "Ah'w Baby" from 1990. The two Fabulous Thunderbird tunes with Kim Wilson show off Bott's drums on the world-wide stage. He include his own song "Cheap Thrills" from 1996 with Kid Ramos, and another, "I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled, and Crazy," from 2002 with Ramos and new T-Bird guitarist Kirk Fletcher. Bott's very personal liner notes offer intimate looks into the music and people that have shaped him. Remember that these songs were recorded live, so while there is no studio perfection, there is that live passion and energy we fans go out night after night to be part of. Can't wait for Vol. 2.

While I don't like to trash another musician's work, I must say in all honesty that this CD is neither worth the $16 or the two to three week wait. In hindsight, I wished I had heeded the warnings of "raw analog recordings" and "never before released tracks," Generally, those are code words for noisy, inconsistent and otherwise poor sound quality not otherwise suitable for release. In some instances, the quality of this CD is lower than some bootlegs. This CD fits the rule that if the songs are good enough to be released they would have been, long ago. The crowd's chatter and idle conversation during the performance are very audible and distracting. Moreover, the sound quality varies from track to track due in part to the fact that the CD picks up songs recorded at different times and in different places. Jim Bott, apparently needing a buck, lists his telephone number on the back as 1-800-BUY-MY-CD. I gave him $16. Don't make the same mistake.
