Tom Jones all but invented saucy power pop back before the sixties even started to swing when his second single "It's Not Unusual" rocketed up the UK charts in 1965. After that initial triumph the singer never looked back, tying his hair back with a thin black ribbon and putting some rather expressive body English into his stage moves, which assured that the stage floor would be routinely pelted with various undergarments pitched by enthusiastic fans. Almost four decades later both Jones and his audience are no less fervent as Wales' second-most famous export runs through his extensive and varied songbook, still imbuing his old chestnuts like "What's New Pussycat?" and "Delilah" with a sense of naughty fun and irony. But Jones is at his best while giving the latest generation of rockers a run for their money, as he pairs up with the likes of Wyclef Jean, the Sterophonics, Art of Noise, the Cardigans, and Mousse T; as he overhauls staid tired standards like "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)" or "Baby It's Cold Outside" with his arch humor and gutsy delivery. Prince's "Kiss" crackles with an inner light that even the great Minneapolis savant didn't intend, while his duet with Portishead is as cold and disturbing as a grave. Tom Jones is a true music icon........2007-07-24

This album shows that Tom can still sing the songs that hew made made him famous plus he can sing todays music. This is a great compact disc.

A copycat from an old Tom Jones CD.......2007-03-24

SOrry but the album Reload was launched in Europe some 7 or 8 years ago, with spectacular duets including Robbie Williams, Van Morrison and others. I bought it in Spain and since then, is one of my favorites in my car. I still admire his powerful voice and his intensity when performing.

Bought this in anticipation for a girls trip to Vegas where we had tickets to see Mr. Tom Jones. It pumps me up everytime and puts a smile on my face! LOVE it!!!!

This is a very nice CD of new remixes of hit singles mainly from the the 1980's. One of the better CD's in this series. The cover guy is hot too. Recommended.

Nice Tribute But Not a Great Tribute.......2006-01-15

This would've been an amazing concert but as a record/CD - not so much.

Kool & the Gang had some great hits and they still stand the test of time - one test of a great song (and great performance) is that they sound fresh and could've been released yesterday. Kool & the Gang's songs and performances from the 1970's and 1980's still sound fresh and vibrant today - one reason you can't go more than 40 minutes without hearing a song of theirs on a soft rock station.

So this tribute album is a bit odd. Instead of having other big stars performing Kool & the Gang songs - perhaps they thought that might've been too radical and jarring to what our ears are used to? They asked these artists to perform with Kool & the Gang.

Interesting idea and if you're a completist fan of Kool & the Gang, you'll want this CD but frankly, the execution and performances of these artists are pretty lacking and weak. Perhaps they were in such awe of tampering with the songs or whatever the reason, to be perfectly honest - most of them sound like they they sang their version in front of a karoke version of Kool & the Gang's music playing in the background.

Some are okay, some interesting but really, overall - mostly flat, weak and adds nothing to Kool & the Gang's original songs. Nothing horrible but really - non-descript and instantly forgettable.

If you like/love the originals - get those instead.

Kool Classics as you have never heard them before..........2004-07-18

This is an amazing double CD tribute compilation - to commemorate 40 years in the business, Kool & The Gang has teamed up and remade many of their top hits top to bottom featuring many of todays most up & coming vocalists and artists. I am quite surprised that this project has not made more of a splash in the states, yet...

There are many remarkable, creative reworkings on the classics here. The song that stands out the most is "Steppin' Out" which features the UKs Beverley Knight. Beverley lights up this track - this song is a perfect way to showcase her talent. She goes all out and the vocal mixing placements are perfect. Easily a chartable track again - some 20 years after it's original street date. And then who is Indi Gregg???? Her remake of "Tonight" is exquisite!! So is her voice. I will be buying her CD next. Then the unthinkable happens - can a remake ever be as potent as the original? Don't answer this until you hear the band "Natural" spill their flavor into "Cherish" What was best known as one of the 80s most sultry ballads is now made to rock in 2004. Catchy as ever...

Last, I have to say that if Kool & The Gang does not release their new track "Serious" here in the states, then it can only mean that they just don't like money, because this track has hit, hit, hit written all over it. It's a remake set to the beat of "Too Hot" featuring Xavier Naidoo & Mousse T. I have only listened to the track once or twice, but I cannot get it out of my head.

Any Kool & The Gang fan out there should really have this to round out their collection - both CDs are very well done. It's their hits, had they been released today. The only guest vocalist missing in this all-star lineup is perhaps the one the fans want to hear most - JT Taylor.

Big Flop.......2007-01-19

After being so impressed with Best of Club Hits Volume I, I figured this Reloaded album would be even better. My mistake though, I didn't click on the "listen" feature before ordering.

This 2-disc Reloaded album is a series of "one-song-sounds-like-the-next" entries with mostly female vocalists all sounding like Kylie Minogue.

The only redeeming song is Ultra Nate's "Found a Cure" but is one song worth the remaining torture?

Save your money.

This is a remake version of Kool & The Gang's Hits. With some well known artists.
Summer Madness is a nice Smooth Jazz tune, so does 'Too Hot'

Unfortunately the production is too smooth and too less heartfelt. The originals of Kool & The Gang are WAY better. One would have wished that such great song material gives a great album with groove and fun, but in fact it's pretty boring....and the more I hear of Ashanti (Cherish), the more I get the impression that she can't sing....

Hated It!!.......2005-03-30

I had high hopes for this, maybe because I bought The Isley Brothers' 'Taken To The Next Phase' the same day (which rips, spend your money on it instead of this CD). I have listened to this CD several times, even putting it away for a few weeks and then coming back to it again, just to see if I can get a fresh perspective on it. Well, it didn't work, I still don't like it. As the above reviews mention, these 'remixes' destroy, rather than compliment, the original songs. It is sad enough to see the funk power of Kool and The Gang mellow into the 70's disco craze (get the 'Best of 69-76' or 'Funk Essentials' to hear the real power of this band), but now this weak attempt to go 'mainstream' by trying to hip-hop their sound...it is pathetic. Luckily, The Isley Brothers avoided all that with Next Phase, the original music still stands as wonderful pieces or work...it is too bad Kool and The Gang failed to learn that lesson.

Buy the import version.......2004-11-25

I'd actually give this about 3 1/2 stars. This version is okay, but the left off some of the best remakes. The import, also title Odyssey depending of where it's imported from, version is a double CD, has 28 tracks versus 11 and mainly has artists from the U.K. If you like the original versions of their songs the half they left off on the U.S. release are more true to the original.

Too Different.......2004-11-21

This was a great idea. Remix Kool and the Gang hits with the help of different artists. The problem is that the new versions are so different from the originals that in some cases I did not even recognize the song. Jungle Boogie was destroyed. I can't even listen to it. The disc has it's monments but in my opinion they should have stayed a bit more true to the originals.
