The makers of true R&B....Best R&B album ever.......2007-05-20
This was my first cd, good song writing stands the test of time, and the cover of Stevie Wonder's Ribbon In The Sky, in my book, is the best cover of any song, Ever!!!. If you are sick of todays r&b but never knew of Intro, go back to the roots of it all and get this cd, Now!!!!!!!
Great vocals on top of Jeep Banger hiphop beats.....................2006-12-25
Intro was the bomb back in 93. The uptempo are as great as the slow jams.

Why Dont You Love Me
My favorite song..........2006-11-23
on this cd is One of A Kind Love. I still listen to this cd alot. My friends tease me about how much I listen to '80's and 90's music but I don't care. I miss it and still love it!
Goose Bumps Every Single Time I Listen 2 It........2006-08-03
I was 14 when this album burst on to the scene and I simply could not get enough of it, young as I was then I thoroughly appreciated the sensuality this album brings and it sure assisted me many nights. My Fav on the album has to be "Come Inside", the song can make a seemingly hard night very easy. I had to get this album again after loosing the one I had b4 and when I play it to ma mates (even those who aint heard of 'em before)they all say the same thing, "can you burn this CD for me?". It's a classic and R&B is definately missing those good 'ol days. role back the early 90's
Great Album.......2006-07-27
It says something when people in 2006 are still bigging up this album. Agree with many reviewers that this is something that represents the good old days of a better less streesful world. Every tune is worth ten of todays but my personal favourite has got to be 'Anything For You' followed closely by 'So Many Reasons' - not the obvious hits but that goes to show how much this album had to offer. I was one of probably about 12 people who bought this album here in the UK as R'n'B was slow to catch on over here, but anyone who's listened to hip-hop/r'n'b for 10-15 years plus will know not much out now could touch this.
Only learnt a few years of Kenny Greene's death - a sad loss to the industry even though the band was well over by that time. Shame the follow up was a bit of a let-down, but then how could you top this? A great unique voice with no gimmickry in their lyrics, before the bling-bling mentality set in and the soul got lost.
By the way Moni, the track 'Never Again' can be found on the Eddie F & The Untouchables album 'Let's Get It On'. The album featured contributions from Pac & Biggie, as well as Heavy D and a load of others.

Pretty Good.......2006-07-29
This was a very unique item. Fans of the series will enjoy it. At times some of the tracks seem out of place when out of the game, but that's more than made up for by the many powerful and classic tracks that these CD's have. The first CD is more techno-inspired while the second is more operatic. It's good music to do push-ups to or to drive to. Especially the first track of the first CD.

Released shortly after his death in 1993, The Yellow Shark represents one of the only accurate performances of Frank Zappa's "serious" orchestral music--at least as far as the composer was concerned. Assembled from a series of sold-out performances in Germany by the Ensemble Moderne, the set includes re-workings of old favorites like "The Dog Breath Variations" and "Uncle Meat," live arrangements of some of his hairiest computer music like "The Girl in the Magnesium Dress" and "G-Spot Tornado" and new works by Zappa composed specifically for the event. The performances are astonishing and the music? Pure Zappa. --Andrew Boscardin
Album Description
The 26-member Ensemble Modern performs FZ's 'most-humanly-impossible-to-play' compositions. Piano duets, string quintets & small ballets. Simply exquisite, with a 60-page booklet to explain it all. Originally released in 1993, it stayed on the classical chart for most of `94. Includes the tracks 'Outrage At Valdez,' 'None Of The Above,' & 'Welcome To The United States', plus arrangements of some of the most fiendishly difficult pieces from FZ's back catalogue & even a 'greatest hit' or two (some would pick this as the definitive version of 'Dog Breath Variations'). Sadly, this was the last album released by FZ during his lifetime. The didipak and the booklet are housed in a slipcase. Rykodisc.

Dedicated to experts?.......2007-06-25
Frank Zappa was very proud of this great and difficult work done at the end of his (too short) life.
It requires also great concentation and a capability that probably I don't have to well understand this kind of experimental classic music.
It goes beyond the experimental rock that is typical of many of his works, leading him to the level of great contemporary experimental classic composers.
Given such a level of difficulty I don't know how much I can suggest to buy it. You just should try to hear at this music and decide if it does fit with your soul (how could I believe just a few years ago that today I would like so much 'Your funeral my trial' of Nick Cave?)
Zappa Attempts Stockhausen.......2007-02-13
FZ goes to Germany to upstage Karlheinz and tries an avant garde stage performance which is an elegant and popular form of expression in Germany. The Germans have perfected this type of marriage between romanticism and neoclassicism. In this case it's an overly technical performance, a display. The orchestra all sound good yet Zappa has given the music to another conductor, Peter Rundel. There is no rhythm section and without a background the result is too intellectual.
The Yello Shark, performed by the Modern Music Ensemble.......2007-01-19
This CD addresses the more serious, compositional aspect of Frank Zappa's career, and it could not be addressed in a more suitable manner. It includes some of FZ's more difficult works, such as "Bee Bop Tango", "Uncle Meat", and "G-Spot Tornado". The conductor is Peter Rundel, and as Zappa says himself, he is a fine conductor. This is highly recommended for anyone who has already developed a taste for Zappa's complex and imaginative arrangements.
ZAP!.......2006-01-20
Trying to define this album to my good friend was hard. "Well it's Zappa's songs done with an orechestra, but's not really classical sounding . . . it's just Zappa." And my friend just simply nodded and said "Sounds awesome." and i realized that if any reviewer would've just said 'It's Zappa!' it wouldn't take much more to sway me. so - It's Zappa! And it's damn near perfect it's so good! Riveting!!!
Be warned! You may like nobody (musically or real life) or anything (musically or real life) ever again after listening to this album, but it's not that big of a deal!
A Frank Zappa Treasure. Better than many of his CDs.......2005-07-29
`The Yellow Shark', with words and music by Frank Zappa is a collection of `chamber music' pieces recorded in 1993 in Germany, performed by a German orchestra, `Ensemble Modern', which, I believe, commissioned Herr Zappa to assemble these pieces for their concerts. In the accompanying booklet, Frank is pictured with a baton in hand, but the credits only have him conducting three pieces, those with a very significant spoken word aspect (all spoken in English). He also makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the CD where he introduces the Ensemble Modern conductor, Peter Rundel.
This recording is probably one of the very last to be done by Zappa himself, before his unexpected death due to illness. Of all the musical figures of the 1960s lost to us over the years, I miss Zappa almost as much as I miss John Lennon, and I am very happy that if we had to lose them, it was not to drugs or any other kind of self abuse.
There are fourteen musical pieces and three `spoken word' pieces on the recording. I confess that the spoken word pieces may actually be a bit dated, especially the `Welcome to the United States' track on a questionnaire for immigrants which makes a reference to terrorism which may seem entirely too glib in our current environment.
Two of the earliest tracks `Dog Breath Variations' and `Uncle Meat' are instantly recognizable from their music and titles as `quotes' from earlier albums, with very little `classical' varnish over their strongly jazzy sound. Most of the other musical pieces have more subtle quotes from earlier Zappa works, and demonstrate influences from George Gershwin, Kurt Weill, the movie music from `Spartacus', and his old mentor, Edgar Varese.
I noticed that the applause on these tracks was louder than the music and I was wondering whether the audience was appreciating the music itself or the presence of that formidable 1960's icon, Frank Zappa. I'm sure it was a little bit of both, but Zappa and audience couldn't resist quoting from one of his best albums, `The Mothers Fillmore East - June 1971'.
I think this quote was entirely appropriate, in that we owe so much musical innovation to the popular musical performers who were nutured by 1960's, producing such wonders as Zappa and the great bands such as The Rolling Stones and The Who, who are still scoring our artistic perceptions on both commercials and dramatic themes on TV.
This may not be Zappa's greatest album, but it is one of his cleanest. Like `Hot Rats', there is very little `throw away' material. And, it is one of the very few pop or classical recordings by a major musical figure where you will hear the performance of a didgeridoo (Australian aborigonal flute).
Highly recommended for Zappa fans and fans of 1960s music in general.

Disappointing.......2007-05-27
I purchased "New Life" because I own (and love) Intro's debut album.
The harmonies sound beautiful, as expected, but the production lacked variety. Both chapters--"intro to street" and "intro to new life"--were low-key.
The songs sounded so much alike that I could not tell them apart with casual listening. The only memorable track was "love me better" because it was the loudest. Even the choruses were bland, can't remember a single one!
Intro's first album did not have this problem.
"New Life" is boring. Two stars for harmonies, zero stars for production.
EXTRO.......2007-03-28
This final installment from this phenonmenal group is extra special. The untimely passing of Kenny Greene, has left a hole in my heart to be honest. I had worn the first CD out and still listen to it currently before I knew of this release and his passing. I really can't put into words what a sense of lost I feel. I am sure his friends and famliy members are still grieving. But in celebration of his musical gifts and contributions, I say THANKS MAN FOR GIVING ME TIMELESS MUSIC THAT I CAN SING TO FOR A LIFETIME. MUCH LOVE TO THE REMAINING MEMBERS OF THE GROUP AND IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER MEMBER I AM HERE.

I really enjoyed this cd- It has been a favorite of mine for awhile.
Great RnB.......2006-07-18
Great CD. They don't make em like this anymore. Tragically the lead singer died of AIDS. He was a down low brother...shakes head
Intro's second CD's should give everyone new life.......2004-07-18
This CD is the sophmore project from Intro who dazzled us on their debut CD. This CD shows us a mature side from this group and is more balanced from start to finish with the opener, "Strung Out On Your Lovin'". Then the next song, "Funny How Time Flies" is a straight Intro cut with a hip hop vibe with Intro sultry vocals. Some of the other tracks that caught me by eye is "New Life" & "What Would You Do For Love"(Re-make of Bobby Caldwell's chart topper). After Boyz II Men & Jodeci, this was one of the best groups of the '90's hands down and I still think a lot of people slept on this group. I will always remember this group forever. RIP Kenny "G-Love" Greene.

A bizarre yet satisfying album!.......2007-02-08
If you like avante-garde cabaret music with a morbid twist, this is the album for you. A joint collaboration between the Tiger Lillies and the Kronos Quartet, the songs are based on poems by Edward Gorey.
I do not...........2006-12-15
...normally play string with my girlfriend's cat while naked, gradually working both her (the cat) into a fearful frenzy before my own faux-waltz of lip-syncing grandeur.
Now that I have the perfect music to do it to, this may change.
I only wish my girlfriend loved it half as much as her cat loves that string.
I first came across The Tiger Lillies years ago on, of all things, a Satanic Internet radio station, and have found myself returning to them periodically, trying to be frugal with my music budget, knowing (as happened with the late great Gorey) that novelty can turn to addictive brilliance before your credit card can say:
"Well, hello again."
The higher price of imports helps, but I fear this album won't sustain me for long, long and graceful as the vocals are, encircling the wind keys, wrist strings, and waif skins that live forever. A mad old heiress disguises herself as one libertine commoner, then wails watery makeup into the corpse of the one she eats, and dies, but her spirit will weaken, then cling to you like a starving orphan.
Originally Skeptic..........2006-11-06
But now converted... I was attracted to this CD because the songs are musical versions of Edward Gorey stories. I have to confess that at first I did not know what to do with the music, how to categorize it I mean... but because the stories are great and funny, the music grew on me and now I love the CD. I listen to it almost every day, at least my favorite songs:
Weeping Chandelier (great tango!!!), Besotted Mother (a delightful waltz... ja!), Gin (that rhythm makes me want to dance), Hertha Strubb (crazy!!!), QRV (what is QRV? Anyway, the kids love it) and Trampled Lilly (romantic, sad and dark, veeeery dark)
If you do not have an obscure humor, a taste for experimental music and if you are expecting classical music or something of that source, this is not the CD for you.
But for everyone else, I recommend it widely...
Gothic Cabaret?.......2006-08-30
Once you get past the falsetto Lotte-Lenya-meets-Kevin-Coyne voice, you can concentrate on the meta-Gorey lyrics. The words come from original Gorey texts that have been liberally adapted. If anything, they emphasise the commonalities with the world of Charles Addams. The musical style is, as the group itself says, avant-garde cabaret. The Kronos Quartet, despite being co-stars, do not seek to upstage the Tiger Lilies.
Definitely recommended for Gorey fans and Goths who love serious (?) cabaret (if you are out there).
almost accessable.......2006-03-13
The Tiger Lillies are a trio, who play a slightly demented cabaret
style of music. Just the perfect band to put Edward Gorey's lyrics to music. They use accordian, banjo, sting bass, snare drum and even ukulele to achieve a unique sound.
This recording adds the Kronos Quartet on 9 of the 13 tracks and
They really fill out the sound nicely. One caveat; Martyn Jaques
singing. It's a dramatic falsetto, with lots of rrrroled "R's".
But if you are a fan of Gorey you can probably accept his voice
on it's own terms. This is not as raw as other TL releases.
Recommended for the adventurous listener.

As Always, Hilarious.......2007-05-03
This is so funny! Like all the Forbidden Broadway cds, its another knock-out. I feel like such a crazy person when I am in the car driving and I just burst out laughing. Its great and a must have for any Forbidden Broadway fan.
Spoof Odessey worth the laughs!.......2002-04-14
I enjoyed "Forbidden Broadway 2001: A Spoof Odyssey." This recording has some truly genius material, and although these actors' impersonations of famous Broadway stars aren't as strong as they have been in the past, the CD has a lot to recommend it.
Particularly strong is Track 16, "Let's do an old fashioned show tune," featuring Elton John and Ethel Merman duking it out over AIDA, which Merman says is "putting everyone here through hell." Likewise, Track 15, "Let's Ruin Times Square Again," tickles my funny bone. Also wonderful are the satires of Beauty and the Beast, Angela Lansbury, and the Full Monty; Gerard Alessandrini's done a tremendous job with these! In addition, this CD's introductory song is much stronger than those on the previous volumes of Forbidden Broadway. It really sets the tone for the best parts of this recording.
Unfortunately, with a few notable exceptions, the first half of the CD is a bit thin, which is why I give this recording 3 out of 5 stars: Even though it entertains me, there's a lot I have to skip over. For example, the Liza Minelli spoof annoying (though, I admit, a little funny), and in the Music Man revival satire, their Robert Preston impersonator sounds *nothing* like the original. (In earlier recordings, the actors *did* sound like the people they claimed to be.)
The good news is that the CD has 30 tracks in all, so even though there are 13 that I dislike, I just love the rest... I do recommend it!
better to be "Lost in Space".......2001-12-31
First and foremost, this CD is really for diehard fans of Forbidden Broadway, those of us who want the good, the bad and the ugly on the cd rack. I was extremely unimpressed with the latest offering.
While I agree with some of the other reviewers that there is some nice work, I don't know that Saturday Night Fiasco and Sondheim's Blues are sufficient to carry the rest of the tracks. Not much seems new or worse yet, important. Disney isn't new, nor is Les Miz. And while pointing out what is stale and pedestrian on Broadway was amusing on the last couple of releases, this Forbidden Broadway spoof clearly has joined the list of stale and pedestrian.
While there is some nice material on this disc, I really didn't laugh out loud, and that is why I have always bought these in the past.
If Alessandrini reduces the show to the same complaints of the same shows and then replaying lightly tweaked versions of past numbers, Trouble and Alan Cumming in Cabaret specifically, then he has himself is on the becoming a revival - and we know what he thinks of revivals.
The repeats might even be acceptable if there was something fresh in the perfomance, but both were done much better on their respective discs. I think Danny Gurwin is a great comedian, but he doesn't shine in either of these numbers. We also need a recording with no Ethel Merman or Liza numbers - give them a rest already. And why bring back Streisand with such a poor imitation? The earlier Barbara's were dead on vocal impressions as well as speech patterns. If you aren't going to improve on it, then don't drag it back out.
Alessandrini suggests that this is one of the best casts he has ever worked with. I don't know what he bases that on, but I beg to differ, either cast with Bryan Batt was significantly better, although they worked with fresh, clever material. Still, those recordings had verocious talent that brought Gerard's stinging wit to life for those of us who can't see every new production of FB.
Maybe it is time to go to off Broadway productions, or to the radio or the movies for some new ideas. Or else promise no references to the Gap, Disney, or Chorus Boys, (way over used on this recording), along with a Merman and Liza free season. Start from scratch. That might give us hope that Forbidden Broadway too might not be dead.
Stretched Thin.......2001-03-26
I just saw the stage production of Forbidden Broadway 2001: A Spoof Odyssey. I agree with the other reviewers who feel that Alessandrini is no longer at the top of his game. Perhaps he should lay off for a year or three and let Broadway present new things for him to lampoon - as it always will.
The opening sequence is forced and unfunny, and clearly in place only to batter the listener with the "2001" theme. Unlike a previous reviewer, I found the Judi Dench parody hysterical, though I question its accuracy.
The "Trouble" parody is, as it always was, incomplete and thin. My dear friend John Kenrick (...) did a better job with it - included the segments of the original song that GA left out, and in a funnier fashion. The Cole Porter parody is marginally amusing, but the Brian Mitchell/Marin Mazzie parody is dead on the mark, and VERY funny.
The parody of Cheryl Ladd remains in the show, although she's no longer in "Annie Get Your Gun" - Reba McIntyre is now in the role. Similarly, he stabs at Alan Cumming, who is no longer playing the Emcee. These numbers, while funny, lack punch. On the other hand, he once again skewers long time target Patti LuPone with an hysterical new parody of Being Alive. I suppose she's innately funnier, after all these years, than Alan Cumming, who is, after all, a relative newcomer.
The Rocky Horror parody is amusing, and the observation that sex has moved off 42nd Street and onto the Broadway stage is not without merit. The Beauty parody is amusing, and apt, but as has already been noted, GA has been clobbering us with the Disnification of Broadway for years now. I suppose he finds some glee in the fading success of this particular show.
I must say that while Gurwin is not the greatest singer, "Sondheim's Blues" is the most brilliant piece I've heard from Alessandrini in years. It's absolutely dead on. The friends I was with had never seen nor heard "Follies" and completely missed the point, but I was in stitches.
The "10 Years More" (which does not appear on this album, but remains in the show) has really begun to wear thin, especially with the closing this year of Cats and Miss Saigon. The Cameron Macintosh British mega-musicals are finally releasing their grip on Broadway, and this isn't as funny any more.
Broadway, despite the naysayers, will never die... and apparently, neither will Forbidden Broadway. I don't think it should - but I do think it needs a rest.
Do the Math.......2001-03-15
Four CDs cover the first 20 Years of Forbidden Broadway, Gerard Alessandrini's viciously witty satire of New York Theatre. The last year has seen Three new CDs, FB "Cleans Up Its Act" "20th Anniversary Edition" and now "2001 a Spoof Odyssey". Do the math.
Alessandrini is running out of ideas, and is spreading the remaining ones too thin. . Sanitized Time Square - Been there. Disnified Broadway - Done that, and so many times. Asinine casting faux pas, plotless pointless set-monster musicals, and Ethel Merman and Liza. We've heard it all before - and last time, it was funnier.
Now normally when a writer (or director or actor) has truly entertained me on numerous occasions, I'll forgive the odd show that disappoints. This would be the case here except for two things: Alessandrini is in the vicious parody business - he's never spared anyone else Besides, if he's going to actually include couplets like: "If lyrics are no longer witty... Then I don't want to go " he's inviting the pans.
When you hear the AIDA lampoon, you'll be reminded of the dim bulb in Cyrano de Bergerac who taunts the hero with the brilliant witticism: Your nose is very large
Yes, there are a few true Forbidden Broadway tracks on Spoof Odyssey. Dame Judi Dench singing "Why can't Americans do theatre like the Brits?" (with apologies to My Fair Lady), I Hate Ben (with apologies to Kiss Me Kate) and about 1/3 of "Let's Ruin Time Square Again" (no apologies necessary to Rocky Horror which understands how easy it is for good parody to go bad). Oh yes, there is one absolutely true Forbidden Broadway track: TROUBLE - yes, the same Trouble from Volume 3 which was just re-released on the 20th Anniversary compilation - and it's back again with a more hackneyed Robert Preston impersonation and all of 4 words changed. Granted it's one of the better bits, more worthy of rerunning than say, referring to Miss Saigon as Viet-Numb, but oh, he reran that gag too

As we've come to expect from Peter Schickele (aka P.D.Q Bach), this is a comedy CD based thoroughly and utterly in classical music in-jokes, puns, references, mis-hearings, etc. Here, we're in the world of a casual, presumably classical music radio show ("all Pachelbel, all the time"), with a host and two sidekicks, all of whom can't resist "witty" chitchat. There are spoofs of fundraising (they hope for $100.00 by the end of the show), a song called "Sam and Janet," which actually turns into a polyphonic version of "Some enchanted evening" (get it? Sam and Janet = Some enchanted), a set of four folk songs accompanied by "devious instruments," one of which is a cardboard tube, which is to "played" by hitting it against someone's head. And one of the rules of the station is that all music must be in a major key until after 11 PM. Fans of Schickele who truly love his sophisticated spoofs of classical music will find fewer of them here than usual, oddly enough, but the CD is fun. And a highlight is a non-classical number or two (snuck in by the co-hosts, Jocko and Blondie) sung by Elvis's brother "Enos," who liked his name until they started calling his brother "Elvis the Pelvis." Delightful, if this is what you're looking for. --Robert Levine

Not My Favorite.......2006-04-04
This is a satire of the annoying disc jockey "personalities" who are all-too-apparent on radio today. As is so often the case with this sort of satire, it mimicks what its mocking a little too closely while not providing enough in the way of humor. There are some good pieces, like the PDQ Bach folksongs, but the music faded to the background when viewed alongside the obnoxious radio personalities. Some of it, was not only annoying, but kind of poinless, like the Elvis parody. I'm a huge fan of PDQ, but this album was too much even for me.
For the dedicated PDQ fan only..........2005-10-29
Okay, I am not really a listener of classical radio stations, so
I cannot comment on whether this send-up of classical radio
stations is really fair. But, when I am trapped in a car without
my IPOD, I do listen to many pop radio stations and the
material on this CD with lots of annoying and stupid DJ
chatter is all too familiar. But that is the problem. Listening
to this CD is like watching a comedy skit that goes on and on
longer than it has to. Yes I did laugh a few times at the material
and the liner notes. But I cannot say this is really even "average"
PDQ material, hence the below average rating.
Better than Citizen Kane.......2005-02-16
Ok, it's not better than Citizen Kane. It's just that I played "Jocko" on this CD and had a great time doing it. I'm glad so many people reviewed and liked the recording.

blistering parody.......2004-09-03
Let me say at the outset that this is not my favorite PDQ Bach album. I agree with other reviewers that the PDQ Bach works themselves are somewhat less inspiring that on other albums. But there is one aspect of this album that needs to be pointed out: it is an absolutely devestating parody of what has become of classical music radio stations. More and more I find (and apparently Schickele also finds) that classical stations have become watered-down affairs, bland, inoffensive-- "relaxing" they call it. Music for people who basically don't like music very much. You know, background music that you don't have to pay much attention to or think about too much. Basically, high class muzak. This album takes that whole thing on in spades. In fact, in some sense it's really too true to be funny. I swear, the classical station in Boston must really have a "no minor keys until after 11pm" rule, and if they're not quite "all Pachelbel all the time!", they certainly play at least 33% obscure baroque works, while playing maybe 2% romantic and *zero* percent 20th century. So while the comedy on this album may not be the very best, the parody is absolutely spot-on. For that, I say "Kudos!!"
Very witty parody.......2002-07-02
This is a CD that in several places brought tears to my eyes -- tears not of sadness, but of laughing so hard I cried. The hilarious parody of obnoxious and insulting sports talk show hosts (Jocko) reminds me of some all-too-real jerks on the radio now. The "Enos Presley" songs, Hound Dog and Love Me, were the real "tear jerkers" if you know what I mean. They are foisted upon the hapless "Prof" Schikele by his rambunctious co-hosts Jocko and Blondie, who figure that the station owner never listens and so it's okay to play something that's not classical on this otherwise "all Pachelbel all the time" station. "Enos," who didn't mind his name until they started calling his brother "Elvis the Pelvis" -- actually has quite an incredible voice: a combination of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and others. He is backed by an authentic and straight-faced "Jordanaires-like" group that is the perfect foil to his over-the-top parody of 50's Elvis-style pop.
Other hilarious songs are the four "Folk Song Upsettings" for soprano, piano, and "devious instruments" including Prof hitting himself over the head with cardboard tubes.
The reason I give this only a 4 rather than a 5 rating is that some of the actual PDQ instrumental music isn't that good. Sure, it's obviously not SUPPOSED to be good, but I mean it isn't bad or zany enough to be as funny as earlier PDQ Bach pieces like "My Bonnie Lass She Smelleth" and "Shleptet" and "The Stoned Guest," all of which were more inspired comedically and musically.
Still, this is definitely a CD to make you laugh. The best parts make it worth going through some less inspired sections.

Nadja and Anne-Marie in concert.......2006-07-31
I have been privileged to see Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg perform live four times, the last two in chamber music situations with her current piano partner, Anne-Marie McDermott. So this, for me, is a rare instance of my buying a recording as a souvenir of seeing someone fantastic in person, rather than the other way round. (Other examples, for me, were tenor Jon Vickers and conductor Klaus Tennstedt.)
For me, personally, Anne-Marie McDermott is one of the world's greatest pianists and certainly the greatest living woman pianist. She imbues all of her playing with both a respect for the musical text and a passion for the musical drama. She is incapable of playing a dull phrase or an uninteresting movement of anything; in fact, she would be my candidate for the next great complete Beethoven piano sonata cycle.
When paired with Nadja, their playing as a team transcends what each of them can do individually. To say that this program "strikes sparks" would be an understatement. Every note, every phrase of the larger works is filled with an inner tension and complete commitment to excellence not often encountered in today's homogenized "classics lite" world, and the Kreisler "fillip" is played with exactly the right amount of schmaltz and humor.
To say more would be redundant; these performances speak for themselves. Buy, and enjoy.
Nadja live.......2006-05-28
Any recording of Nadja is great, but a live recording of her, is extra special. I have seen her live six times within the last three years, and have traveled out of state, four of those six times.
Nadja has another live recording, also on her own private label, which is simply fantastic, with the great Tchaikovsky violin concerto, and a beautiful new composition, by Clarice Assad.

The essence of a great entertainer catpured........2004-05-03
Liberace was a great showman and entertainer. This double CD is the best record of his classic act and demonstrates what Liberace was all about. Although recorded in 1954 the sound quality is fine and many of the elements from that period remained part of Liberace's act over more than 30 years. Interestingly - he was not yet using "I'll Be Seeing You" as his exit music. If there is anything you like about Liberace - get this CD.
