Album Description

Nicole C. Mullen has become one of the most loved and respected singer/songwriters in the Christian industry. Everyday People picks up right where the previous albums left off, offering a rang of worshipful songs from the danceable "This, This" to "Redeemer" like moments on "I Am". Reoccurring throughout Everyday People is a theme about real people, fans that have left an impact on Nicole, friends dealing with abuse, issues like freedom, and how all these people reconcile with their creator. Nicole has tapped mainstream producers James "Big Jim" Wright (Mariah Carey, Yolanda Adams) of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis' Flyte Time Productions, as well as production duo Drew & Shannon (Andrew Ramsey & Shannon Sanders) (India Arie, Cindy Morgan, FFH) to expand the sonic palette, in addition to husband and long-time producer David Mullen and Tommy Sims.

5 out of 5 stars Further Proof Why I'm A Nicole C. Mullen Fan.......2007-05-14

Yes, I'm a Nicole C. Mullen fan, in case you can't tell by the other reviews I've done on her projects. This one further proves the point. If you like R&B Christian music, you'll like her.

Favorites include the cover of "Everyday People", "I Am", "This This", "Music Of My Heart", Goin' Be Free", "Deity", "It's About Us", and "Valorie".

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!.......2007-01-11

I started with her signature CD (Nicole Mullen) and this one didn't make me look backward. I am so happy to have it. She blows me away with how she uses alternative music grooves to send messages that speak to life while we're living it.

5 out of 5 stars A teen's review.......2005-01-23

Wow. What can I say? Nicole has a great voice and writes great songs. She wrote all of them except for "Everyday People", and they are just fabulous. I have her other album, Talk About It, and I have to say this one is a little different. I'd say it has a little more variety... some songs are more rap and some are just gospel, and there are some in between. She has so many different styles in there that it would please anyone. She has a twirly voice that just blows me away, and the lyrics are always touching. Some of my favorites are Message for You, This This, Music of my Heart, Bye Bye Brianna, Dancin' in the Rain, Gon' Be Free, and Valarie (which is like half the album!) I think this album came out September 2004. Overall it's great. You won't be disappointed.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS CD IF..........2004-09-24

...you are like me and wanted the "I Like What I Like" cut. When I wrote my pervious review you could preview the tracks. The track that I previewed on the site was the original track from the original album.

The CD I received DID NOT have the original "I like what I like" track even though that's what the web site had in the preview. It had a very lame and shortened version without all the orchestration from the original album track.

The impression that you get is that the group found themselves running out of money and decided to rerecord this piece of garbage.

It's interesting that Amazon no longer allows you to preview the tracks on the CD. False advertising?

It's too bad there's no choice for zero stars.

    4 out of 5 stars I Like What I Like.......2004-08-22

The cut "I Like What I Like" is worth the price of the CD in my opinion. We used to dance to this at "The Bakery" in Niagara Falls NY way back in my youth and I bought it again just to bring back the memories.

4 out of 5 stars Solid funk album........2000-11-17

This is a little known band from Canada in the early '70s. They were on the same label with Kool and the Gang, and in fact they cover 'Who's Gonna Take The Weight' on this album. Otherwise this CD is pretty much in the vein of the Kool and the Gang recordings of the same era (Live at the Sex Machine, Live at PJs), with a somewhat shabbier musicianship. Don't let this scare you away though, they still rock hard, with some great grooves and some b3 lurking in the background on nearly every song.

Highlights: 'Funky Granny', 'Funky Gene-ra-tion' and the instrumental 'Mama Said-Papa Said (Too Young To Marry)'.

Steve 'The Scotsman' Harvey is a household name in soul music. His name often appears as a producer of soul music on albums by the likes of The Temptations, Donnie and a whole bunch of soul artists as some of you might have noticed on the Devalicious album.
Steve's latest album is entitled "The Everyday People Project Vol.1". On this album it's Steve Harvey who invited the artists to join him in his daily work. The singers that participate on this project are: Ledisi, K.K., N'dambi, Rahsaan Patterson, Donnie, Linn Segolson, Keite Young, Storm and Pretty Terry. As every individual artist contributes to this project with his or her own quality,it results in an excellent variety of music to be heard. Nice to hear as well is the flute by Louis van Taylor on some of the tracks.

We hear soul music in a wide range and of course with a different approach by the artists. Where Ledisi shouts it out big time in the opener "I Can't Let You Go", Linn Segolson takes us on a slow ride in the beautiful ballad "Troubled Times". We hear a compassionate voice of K.K. in "Where Has The Love Gone" and sensual and husky notes sprouting from Storm's voice. Almost all the participants together with Steve took part in writing their song with N'dambi co-writing on three of the songs. Her duet with Keite Young is sublime. While soulbrother Rahsaan brings in the funk, Donnie is treating us in his own rebellious way. By the way Donnie's forthcoming album will be a Steve Harvey production as well.(TA)
