J. Anthony ThompSon Gospel/Contemporary Artist CD: “Look Up See Jesus”

J. Anthony ThompSon's first solo release embodies the heart, soul and talent of an extraordinarily gifted young man. J. Anthony ThompSon has been involved in music from an early age. His talent and versatility have endeared him to many that have crossed his path. His first CD, “Look Up See Jesus” is a testament to his heart for God and music. The CD embodies many forms of gospel from traditional to contemporary. The lyrics are convincingly written and performed. The music provides a backdrop that makes it easy to fall into the message of the songs. The overall production of the CD gives it a character and personality that will appeal to listeners of all ages. This work was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered in J. Anthony's studio, The Sound Stage. Along with local air play in the Philadelphia/Wilmington area, songs from the CD are gaining momentum on MP3.com. “Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus” was ranked 13 in the gospel genre for the week of Feb 18th.

As a musician J. Anthony has played many instruments. At a young age he started with the violin. Next he moved to brass instruments where he won several state competition medals. At the age of 10 he started to play the drums in church and quickly became the envy of his older peers. Over the years he always held a special love for the piano and organ. At the age of 18 he took a much more serious approach to organ and piano and quickly excelled. He has had the opportunity to travel the country and play for many ministries, choirs, and soloists. The list includes, Dorothy Norwood, Wilmington/Chester Mass Choir, Jay Caldwell Ambassadors, Mike Pitts, AIRO, Ernie Saunders & Co., Bernard Pinder, Youth Delegation, New Jerusalem Mass Choir, Tamika Patton, and Sharon Hill Outreach Choir to name a few.

As a vocalist J. Anthony's voice is soothing yet convicting. His vocal ability allows him to employ range and articulation to create an atmosphere that draws in the listener. Some have said he has a “Hathaway” quality to his voice while others have considered his voice to be uniquely contemporary. What is certain is his knowledge of what he is singing. Listeners will note a quality and approach that is sincere and embraces the reality of the words being sung.

As a songwriter J. Anthony has developed an ability to articulate many facets of the Christian experience. Those familiar with his writing agree that his songs quickly establish a premise and then bring a resolve that is satisfying to the soul. J. Anthony's songs have been included on recorded projects for artists such as, Lincoln University Gospel Choir, New Jerusalem Mass Choir, and Youth Delegation.

As a producer and engineer J. Anthony has worked hard to acquire a signature approach in the studio, this is evidenced on his own CD, “Look Up See Jesus”. Musical performances are true to the style of the song. Traditional adaptations retain the simple yet soulful traits of the genre, while contemporary renditions have a more open and rhythmic feel. The purposeful placement of voices create an effect the support the message of the lyrics. The vocal delivery demands and retains attention from the listener.
