Customer Reviews:
Another good album from the ballader.......2006-12-17
Brian McKnight has always been one on of the best ballader's in R&B since he first appeared on the scene. I picked up the U-Turn CD just off the strength of his previous work and the lead single from this CD Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda. I had a chance to see Mr. McKnight live in Orlando back in 2003 while he was promoting this CD and hearing some of the songs live made it a even better listening experience. Some of the standout songs on this CD include Been So Long,Try Our Love Again and If It Was Cool. One song that should have been a single is Good Enough feat. Tyrese,JOE, Tank and Carl Thomas. Good Enoungh could have easily been The Secret Garden esuqe song for a new generation, however it was never released as a single. Another winner from one of the best in the game.
Not considered but is truly a classic album.......2005-01-21
Chances are if you've heard of Brian McKnight, you've heard the beautiful song "Back At One" from his mulitiplatinum status album of the same name. However, he's two albums that followed ulitmately lacked his usual soulfullness, which makes him stand out as one of the kings of R&B. He clearly decided to switch directions as implied in the title "U Turn."
The album kicks off with a nice song "All Night Long" featuring Nelly, which is not really crucial to the rest of the album. He follows up with a true R.Kelly type song with "Back Seat," which I find suprisingly enjoyable and mood setting. The album then reaches its strongest points with "Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda," a song similar to "6,8,12" in subject matter, but far supperior in voice and lyrics. Songs like "Try Our Love Again" are very decent songs that fill to the next climax of the album with another comma infested title "Someday, someway, somehow." "If it was cool is another solid sound, and the album fails to lage at all truthfully.
Therefore, if you enjoy the soft and smooth voice of Brian McKnight whatsoever, I recommend buying this album as soon as possible.

3 1/2 Stars Actually...Good album.......2004-06-07
Brian McKnight is a great singer and songwriter. I actually think this is a decent album, but not the best. There isn't anything really new or innovative, and I think that some of the songs are hits while other are "non-hits". I personally love his voice and even if some of the songs he is singing aren't up to par he still "tears it up" and that never changes about Brian Knight and it shows you how great a singer he truly is. My favorites are "Back Seat (Gettin' Down)" and "Where Do We Go From Here". Brian McKnight also gets my nod because he not only sings, but he plays piano and writes his own material and that is very admirable. 3 1/2 stars for Brian McKnight - "U Turn".
My Sentiments Exactly.......2004-06-01
I'm rolling (laughing) at the comments that the previous reviewer from Tampa, FL left. I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm only 5'3" tall, and I know Brian is well over 6 feet and he would tower over me but I swear if he'd let me, I wouldn't mind climbing! Yummy! YUM YUM! Okay, back to U-Turn! This album is definitly worth purchasing. I listen to it constantly too. Brian McKnight tops my all-time favorite artists, right along with Prince and Stevie Wonder. Can't wait for the next one because this one will be hard to top.
"U Turn" Me On!.......2004-05-30
Lord have mercy, Jesus! That's all I can say. The music, the man...everything! I just love everything that Brian Mcknight does with his tall, chocolate, fine self! I've been playing this CD almost nonstop for the past year. When I get new music, I play it once or twice and put it away...then U Turn goes right back in. Especially when I'm driving, because it has everything I love...ballads, Hip Hop, Adult R&B, POP...it's just got it all. This is the best Brian McKnight CD so far (and I do have every single one of them). I'm just waiting for the next one so I can fall in love all over again.

Say what you want about Oliver Stone's U Turn (we know, it probably won't be nice). Call it gory, call it derivative, call it a waste of time. But check out the soundtrack. Musically, U Turn, is a great collection of country classics, coda'd by a memorable Ennio Morricone score. Of course, most of these tunes merely serve as cheery background music to contrast the violence found in the film's scenes. Cuts by Peggy Lee, Webb Pierce, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Ricky Nelson all give the disc a Southwestern mood. Give it a listen; as long as you're not headed to Superior, Arizona, it makes for a fine record to take on the road. --Jason Verlinde
Customer Reviews:
A little disappointed..........2003-03-26
After seeing the movie, I was very impressed with the music, both the songs and the Ennio Morricone score. When I saw the soundtrack for sale, I knew I had to have it. Upon listening to the score I was disappointed to learn that almost all of my favorite music cues from the film were not included on the CD! Some of the music absent from the CD: Almost all of the cues underscoring the scenes with Darrell the mechanic, the scene where the Russian is chasing Sean Penn through town, and the Spanish music when Sean is walking out of the bus station with his bus ticket. I can only think that they excluded these cues because of their short duration.? Much of the score music that is included on the CD goes on way too long, and gets a bit boring. It seems like they only included the longer, more listener-friendly music cues on the soundtrack, which is a mystery to me. What do people have against a soundtrack with short music tracks? That being said, I do think it is a worthwhile buy for those who enjoyed the film, and there is plenty of good music on it. I can only hope they will one day release a more comprehensive version...
Masterpiece in the movie. Less interesting on CD........2003-01-12
This CD starts with a rather nice mix of 10 songs. Mainly country songs, some old jazz songs and a mexican song. My favorites are the two jazzy songs "It's a good day" and "Speaking of happiness".
Being a fan of Morricone, his score is the reason I bought this CD in the first place, so I'll concentrate my review on his 42 minute contribution. This is one of the examples of a score which works absolutely terrific in the movie, but is less interesting on CD. At times the score is either erotic, hypnotic, paranoid, dark or just plain silly. It makes your adrenaline pump, makes you sad and even makes you laugh. It has two absolutely wonderful cues; the main title called "U-turn" plus the track "Old family souvenirs", which I personally believe is two of the best film score cues from 1997. They are both melancholic and sad, especially the latter of these, which has the Morricone trademark; Edda Dell'Orso as wordless soprano. The score could have been incredible had these two cues worked as themes and provided the basis for the entire score, but considering the movie, there really was no place to do so. The rest of the score is rather interesting, but sadly more interesting than listenable. Morricone is very original in this score(as he always is), and use a very untraditional mix of instruments. Acoustic and electric guitars, a harmonica, panpipes, a banjo, a jew's harp and wordless soprano. I recommend buying this CD, especially for the two wonderful cues mentioned above. If you are prepared on the fact that it's not all melodic and listenable music, I don't think you will be disappointed.
A Rare, schizophrenic soundtrack........2002-08-03
I'll try to improve on the crappy review I wrote over 3 and a half years ago. But I'll repeat what I said originally. The first 10 tracks of the CD are country songs from the likes of Pasty Cline (how come she don't put out no more records?) and Johnny Cash. Even if you are not a fan of such music they are easy going and don't get on your nerves. With the exception of 'More and More' by Webb Pierce.
Morricone's score is very weird indeed. Tracks like Grace (and the reprise), U-Turn, Dialogue with the Indian and A Banjo in the Desert really help set the mood for the zillion degrees location of the movie. These tracks almost make you see heatwaves.
The tracks Against and Hallucination Walk use screeching violins to scary and menacing effect. While tracks like Go on...kill Grace, End of Sheriff and Fall and Rise seem sarcastic and crackpot with a touch of nervous tension.
But the standout track is definitely Old Family Souvenirs. This music is haunting and creepy. A woman's voice humming sad sounding tune. I said before that I would describe this track as being 'tragically erotic'. And I stick by that, you can deny that description when the violin comes in halfway through for the most tear-jerking solo ever. I mean this music is worth the purchase of the CD on it's own. And I would go as far as saying that it is even better than Ennio Morricone's own theme for 'The Mission'.
Buying this CD is a wise move. It's a classic. No doubt.
If you didn't like the movie, don't buy the CD.......1999-04-14
If you were spooked out by this creepy movie, I wouldn't recommend the CD. There are only a couple good songs on the soundtrack; the rest just poke along and remind me too much of the miserable scenes of the movie- especially the original score by Ennio Morricone.
1 HALF OF GOOD SONG +1 HALF OF GREAT MUSIC=GREAT CD.......1999-01-03
The songs featured on the CD are amiable enough but Morricones score is n absolute belter. Track 20 (Old Family Souvenirs) is tragically erotic and tracks 21 and 22 are bizzare. Like the rest of the score, but very listenable and coherent.

Great music........2004-07-13
This release is full of awesome guitar riffs, great piano/keyboard work, and inspiring music altogether. I recommend it to any rock fan. Not to mention the great quality of production. Can't wait for a second release.
This is Great!.......2004-07-12
Being that this is in the genre of pop rock, and I normally don't listen to pop rock, I would give this a 5. For one, it really makes my ears turn toward the great notes and inspiring lyrics. Just want to say, hey guys, your doing great.
u-turn rocks.......2003-12-23
This band needs air time on the radio. Buy it you wont be disappointed. All songs were wrote by the band, not by someone else. it's hard to find true talent these days. visit their website www.u-turnrocks.com.
Michelle's Review.......2003-09-23
What can I say about U-Turn? Well, the first thing that would come to mind, as an avid music lover and a musician myself, their music is of such a high standard, I'm surprised that they haven't hit 'the big time' already, but they are well on their way with their debut album, which is set to become billboard smash.
Not only is the music on this album brilliant, but it appeals to all ages, not the manufactured farce that Britney Spears' or Good Charlotte's publishers sell as audience reachers, but genuine, touching music that will affect any listeners emotions, and this listener was deeply impressed.
Keep it up guys, and good luck with 'No Filler'!!!
U-Turn's the best new band going.......2003-09-22
I have been listening to the band for quite some time now and all I can say is that they never cease to amaze me!! From the first time I saw them live at Suzy Q's in Bowling Green, KY I have been blown away by their sound and dynamics. Every time I host a party, I always throw in their CD and get great reaction from the people who are there listening with me. I also know these four guys on a personal note and must say that they are very true to their fans and are VERY dedicated to what they do. I have listened to Jamison ever since we were kids and he has always been years ahead of everyone else. Scott amazes me in what he can do with a guitar. Josh not only rocks on the bass but the harmony that he adds to the singing makes the songs that much better. And Jeff is very underrated on the drums. He needs to be given the credit he deserve's because his beats keep the clubs rockin'. This CD is fit for everyone and can connect to people of all ages. I try to follow the band wherever they play and am even going to Panama City, FL to hear them play live at Club La Vela on October 10th. These four men known as U-Turn gel perfectly and make this band and this CD the hottest new thing out there. I recommend this to everyone who has a musical ear and likes to be entertained. They certainly have come together to produce an extraordinary album and am excited about new CD's in the future from this band because they only get better and better with time. Guys, good luck and keep doing your thing! See ya in Florida!! J-Rod.
