Funky and Educational!.......2007-08-07
Great cd from start to finish! Some people are put off by the political style he uses, and that Is too bad for them, because some people pefer to stay dumb, happy, and unaware. There Is room for artist like donnie and If you don't like him don't listen, with all the party records out there, you have plently to keep you from getting bored.
too much shouting.......2007-08-06
I have to admit, I haven't listened to this CD very often, I may not have even made it from beginning to end, yet. It's just too much shouting for me. In addition, every song sounds like the last one. Donnie's voice is reminiscent of Donnie Hathaway. The lyrics can be compared to a couple of Hathaway's songs and a couple of Marvin Gaye's songs. But when you have an entire CD devoted to "what's goin' on?" it gets boring.
Singin and Partyin' with a Purpose.......2007-07-25
Donnie's sophomore release, The Daily News is FIYAH! As a singer, he has channeled up the energies of singers past and created his own unique style. When I say this, (channeling energies) I'm not just referring to the sound--but to the consciousnesses, dedication and drive that was once rampant and the norm in the music industry--Singers and entertainers that used their gift of voice and song to touch on important issues of the day. THAT takes talent AND dedication and is found on "The Daily News." The one thing I love and appreciate about Donnie's music is how I am able to sing my butt off yet embrace and appreciate the lyrical content of the music--and LEARN something from it. TIGHT track production, GREAT lyrics and a BEAUTIFUL VOICE = WONDERFUL CD! Definitely a must have for any soul music lover!
Donnie Does It Again!.......2007-07-25
Donnie has hit a homerun with his latest release. The lyrics are deep without being preachy and the music is off the chain. My favorite songs change daily as all of them could be singles. You cannot go wrong with this cd.
Pure Gospel Soul Fervor.......2007-07-01
Donnie is brilliant on this sophomore effort! "Daily News" finds Donnie stepping out of the Stevie Wonder mold that shaped "The Colored Section." From the first track until the latter one the listener is assaulted by a conflagration of gospel, funk, and soul. Not as initially musically catchy as the songs on "Colored Section," these songs are just as colorful, if not more harmonious and gripping. With song titles such as "Suicide," "Atlanta Child Murderers," and "Mason Dixon Line," Donnie got himself booted from Motown. No mainstream artist has the audacity let alone the ability to pull off such complex artistry but Donnie does so with ease. It is impressive that he is able to sound righteous and uncompromising without being too preachy or didactic. Given the seriousness of the issues of which Donnie sings, one would expect each to sound to sorrowful and dreary, but the opposite is the case. For example, I found myself bouncing and snapping my fingers to "China Doll," but then I told myself, wait a minute, is he not singing about a little girl getting rape. The challenging and sensitive nature of the material does not stop Donnie from crafting empowering anthems accentuated by his mellifluous, soulful vocals. Hats off to Donnie's production team, particularly Steve "the Scotsman" Harvey, for producing a sound that fits Donnie's voice like a glove. Here is a track-by-track review of this album:
"Impatient People" - exposes the debacle that was the rescue relief effort of hurricane Katrina: "I'm not a refugee, I am a evacuee, treat me like animals can we be civil ya'll?" Background gospel vocals permeate this song.
"911"-This could easily be America's national anthem as Donnie admonishes the nation to come together. Donnie's idealism and sincerity really shines through on this one.
"Over-The-Counter Culture" - Donnie uses the pharmaceutical industry as a metaphor for the cookie-cutter crap the media shoves down our throat. It is nice to hear a rap verse from Phonte. This song has a very bouncy, dance vibe.
"Classifieds" - This song has a opening line that immediately draws the listener: "This world sho' nuff need a gardener. More than just chronicling the ills of finding a job this song is plain poetry infused with great gospel singing. Very reminiscent of Stevie Wonder.
"Suicide" - A nice flute flutters in the background as Donnie sings about the virtues of living over committing suicide. "It is worth the living, I'm a living witness," Donnie chants. Amen brother!
"If I Were You" - I like this version so much better than the radio one. The warm keys, harmonica, and wah wah guitar can be heard in lieu of bombastic bouncy horns. Caution - this is very addictive.
"Robot" - Rick James synthesizers can be heard on this, and that is a good thing. The robot is any instrument, human and otherwise, that commandeers your thoughts and emotions, and Donnie is tells the robot "to get your dirty hand off me." Amen to that, brother.
"Atlanta Child Murderers" - I am too young to recall this event but I do know that it was a tragic moment in the black community where black children were murdered arbitrarily and brutally. There have always been conspiracy theories in the black community holding the federal government for certain ills. Donnie indulges this paradigm by labeling the murderers as a conspiracy to experiment on the black community's children. It is up to you to agree with this premise. An excellent and provocative song nonetheless.
"For Christ Sake" - The brother takes it to the pulpit on this one, crooning "greater than shall ye do." This is more spiritual than religious, and the chorus literally takes you higher. A very uplifting and encouraging song!
"Mason Dixon Line" - The title obviously references the historical line that separated the slave-owning South from the non-slave-owning North. This song exudes modern gospel.
"China Doll" - find yourself bouncing to groove although he's singing about child molestation. He calls a family friend pedophile and demands that he leaves the little girl alone. The style of this song is reminiscent of how Stevie Wonder executes "Big Brother."
"The Daily News" - Invariably, most news is bad news, so there is no shortage of material for Donnie to sing about here.
"If I Were You" (Radio Version) - I am sure most of you have heard this already. Check out the video on youtube if you have not.
This is a masterpiece of modern, progressive soul deserving of much attention and acclaim. Sadly, "The Daily News" will be overlooked by the masses.

Excellent for use at home. Outstanding for classroom climate in younger grades.
Wonderful, Wonderful!.......2007-01-13
I've been giving this(first a cassette, now a cd) as a gift to children since it first appeared in the mid-80's. It's as fresh and wonderful today as it was then. I know many children who grew up knowing the words to all the songs and internalizing the wonderful messages they impart.Check out other cd's by Red.
Grandchildren Love It.......2007-01-05
This CD provides lively songs that offer kids a positive approach to life and problem solving and are also great fun to dance to. My grandchildren really enjoy it!

witty, bluesy, country music on wry.......2006-02-21
Todd's a find all right. He's got some Loudon Wainwright III in him when I think he'd prefer to be more like Robert Earl Keen. LWIII tries so hard to be witty that his wonderful more serious songs get shrugged off. REK manages to have both embraced. Listen to this early effort along side East Nashville Skykline and you'll hear tremendous growth but still with a bit of that LWIII desperation to be taken seriously.
A good debut, but not the best introduction anymore to TS.......2003-11-23
I bought this album first when I was inclined to finally get better acquainted with Todd's music after having seen him open for others such as Suzanne Vega or John Prine as a solo performer.
So I bought this record used along with his latest ("Near Truths and Hotel Rooms") which is an all live solo performed album that spans many of the the best songs of his 10 year recording career. Even though "Near Truths" only came out this year, I can safely say it shows this album to be lacking in comparison to it. On "Near Truths", he's 10 years older, wiser and more experienced as a songwriter and a performer than the one at work here.
If you are looking where to start with Todd Snider - I recommend you wait on this one and get "Near Truths" first cause *that's* his best record to my ears and darn near twice the length of this one a great value. Since I am hearing Song for The Daily Planet for the first time nearly nine years after it came out and in contrast to his latest, it's easy to see where he's grown and what's to come. In the best songs here (the hidden bonus track of "Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues", "Easy Money", "I Spoke As A Child", "You Think You Know Somebody") Todd shows all the strengths of his best work: humor and heart, wit and wisdom in equal parts. However, the weaker songs here are characterized by a self-consciousness of one kind or another. In some cases, he's still not found a voice of his own yet, as is demonstrated by his practice here of including answer songs to classic anthem songs (My Generation Pt.2, This Land Is Your Land) that simply come up as lesser attempts to rewrite or recycle the themes of them into contemprary anthems. It backfires slightly as in the end, I'm just reminded how these are lesser songs than the ones they are modeled after or inspired by. There's also an air of self-pity, self-righteousness or just general preachiness to a number of the other songs that prevents them from connecting with me. All the signs of a young artist who is still finding his way. Still, you can see the promise here in the best songs.
If after hearing the 3 cuts from here on their "Near Truths" versions you decide you are still curious about what else Todd was doing back at the start of his recording career, this one's worth picking up it at its reduced 'nice' price and with, of course, likewise reduced expectations.
Wonderfully Cynical and yet Refreshing.......2003-05-01
I am not sure what the whole "new country" thing is - I know I hate Shania Twain and all the rest but when you bring todd snider up I smile.
My favorite lyric:
We'll buy anything from Diet Sprite
To 1000 points of light
I admit we're not that bright
but I'm proud anyway
The place to start........2003-04-30
For anybody who wishes to buy a Todd Snider CD, this is the place to start. With tunes such as "Seattle Grunge Rock Blues", "My Generation, Part 2" and "Alright Guy", this album provides several must-have's for the Todd Snider fan. Alternately thoughtful, witty, and hilarious, but always entertaining, this album was the very exciting start for a man who would become something of a cult hero. Be warned: if you listen to this album, you are going to want to hear more.
Todd Snider's an "Alright Guy".......2002-10-18
Todd Snider is an excellent songwriter, as he proves with "Songs for the Daily Planet." He's confident enough in his abiility to hide the album's best song, "The Band that Wouldn't Play," after the last listed track is completed. This witty parody of the Seattle grunge rock scene actually managed to gain Snider airtime on alternative rock stations despite the fact that he is at heart a country artist.
Of the rest of the material, the highlights have to be the very amusing "Alright Guy," the Who-referenced generational effacing putdown "My Generation (Part Two)" and the confessional "That Was Me." Snider's natually wicked sense of humor enlivens the best tracks, and is somewhat reminiscent of John Prine at his best. Only when he gets political, like on "This Land is Our Land," does his music sound forced.
Overall, a catchy and amusing album from a quirky artist who neatly straddles the line between rock and country.

Album Description
The Daily Dose CD is recommended as a great beginning to every morning whether listened to at home or first thing in the office. The objective is to target and focus one's thoughts to create the reality one would like to manifest. By tuning in to this meditation for 20-minutes each day, Freston contends productivity can be increased. She says: "By taking 20-minutes each day to focus on your desires you will not only reduce stress in your life, but increase creativity and improve your communication skills and productivity." Through gentle, step-by-step voice instruction and the powerful tool of creative visualization, Kathy brings the listener to a place of security and openess from which change can occur, transforming our reality by first creating a shift in our internal energy. Bill Laswell's music is featured in the background as Freston's soothing voice narrates.
Customer Reviews:
Not Really Relaxing..........2007-02-21
I really enjoyed some of Kathy Freston's other CDs and thought I would feel the same about this one, but I have to say it is not of the same quality.
She talks really fast and in a very monotone voice which is not at all condusive to meditation. Maybe the producers thought the fast pace would sound more motivational, but it's just annoying.
There is good material here (which is why I rated 2 stars) but the delivery is very poor.
No Magic Here - Save Your Money.......2006-12-21
I bought this CD based on the stellar reviews (and despite the fact that it is HUGELY overpriced - a 20 minute CD should cost no more than $7-8 dollars. Or there better be bonus material!) and was very disappointed for many reasons. Kathy Freston writes a great book, but she doesn't know how to make a meditation CD. I've been listening to meditations for over 10 years now (back when they were on tape!) and so feel that I can comment on what usually works. Firstly, Freston has a lovely voice, but she 1) talks like she's reading from a script - very quickly - and with little or no intonation. Her near monotone is hard to take - especially when she says: "Prepare for a a Miracle" in a very deadpan manner and then rushes into the next idea so you can't take that in. I just couldn't get over the monotone - it was almost rushed, with no enthusiasm. A real surprise. And talking too fast is NOT relaxing; it forces the listener to work harder to keep up. It provides no opportunity for the listener to absorb what's being said and allow their own images and feelings to appear. 2) she also talks through 99% of the CD, which, again, leaves little or no room for silent reflection or for answers to the questions she asks to pop into one's mind. She jumps right in and offers answers of her own, as well as expository information that is best left for the introduction to the meditation, not the meditation itself. The constant chatter stands in for our own Monkey Mind, which we're supposed to be getting away from! In her defense, I'll say that this seems to be a trend these days - those leading the meditations seem to love the sound of their own voice and talk constantly, leaving no gaps for silence, which is very important to have in meditation. Those guiding the meditation seem to forget there is a listener who, as in any 'conversation,' deserves their time to 'speak.' In our case we, as the one being guided, should be given regular pauses to silently fill in our side of the conversation with whatever rises up into our minds to be processed or to inspire us. Otherwise, it's very much one-sided. 3) the music is often SO loud, it starts to eclipse her voice and I had to struggle to pick out what she was saying. Again, not very relaxing. It's too bad, because she has some great ideas and visuals in this meditation, but she doesn't create a quiet, restful, relaxing environment in which to process and experience them. If you want a good meditation, try those by Mary Maddux, who also does ALOT of talking, but has a soothing, quiet voice - she speaks slowly, with inflection, and the music is very much in the background. Otherwise, save your money, or use this as merely an informational CD. Perhaps rerecord the meditation in your own voice, at your own speed, and listen to it that way.
Message keeps you focused.......2005-05-23
Kathy's voice, the music and the script blend together to make a wonderful meditation tape. She speaks throughtout the tape which I have learned to love. This helps keep my ADD mind focused and gives the meditation an intent. Other Meditations attempt to train you to empty your mind. Kathy guides you to relax and then foucs on your spirt and what you truly want and then encourages images that intensify your intention. I feel her method keeps me very focused and it stays with me all day.
Best Meditation CD.......2004-07-27
I've tried quite a few, and though all have something good to offer (any attempt at meditation is a good start), I find Kathy's CDs to be most productive. I don't know what it is ~ her voice, the music mix, carefully chosen words ~ but I respond to Kathy quickly and easily, making the time I set aside for meditation more efficient. She comes across like a spiritual friend, gently guiding your intention to work in your favor. Once you learn to stop sabotaging yourself, you discover how powerful intent truly is.
I try others, yet always come back to Kathy's CDs. That says something.
this keeps me honest.......2002-06-05
I did work from the other cd meditations and keep it fresh with a meditation every day. I think this cd is an excellent way to remain consistent with the important breakthroughs you can achieve with the others. It makes me feel like beginning each day with a smile!

Trout Fishing in America has wide appeal.......2007-04-12
After hearing Trout Fishing in America at a concert in my home town, I decided to buy a CD for my husband and me and one for my 7-year-old granddaughter. When we got together, we played (her) "Big Trouble" and (our) "My Best Day". I don't know who enjoyed it more--the children, the parents, or the grandparents. My granddaughter was soon singing along with "When I Was a Dinosaur" and other favorites on the CD which is not surprising when you consider how many times she listened to it during the weekend. Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood are wonderful musicians, clever song-writers, and just all-around great entertainers. Here's to many more years of their audience-pleasing CD's and personal appearances.
Big Trouble is great.......2006-08-09
My favorite is still Family Party, but that's probably because I've had it for years--I bought it even before my son was born. We enjoy Big Trouble, we just have to listen to it more often to really get to know the songs. We especially like the title song--that poor kid, in such big trouble because the monsters have wrecked his house!
Great, Upbeat Music for the whole Family!.......2006-07-02
I used to work at a toy store and believe me we had to play some really bad music, but when this cd was on, the time just flew by. Now I listen to this music with my son. It is really upbeat and is something I would recommend when you need to pass the time like when you're in the car or cleaning up. The songs are creative, not the same old sing alongs you get on all the other kids' music cds.
this is so funny!.......2006-03-10
I HAVE THREE CHILDREN WHEN I PUT THIS CD ON WE LAUGH AND IT'S EVEN FUN FOR ADULTS! I THREW HER OUT THE WINDOW! MY SON WHO WE GOT THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY LOVED HEARING THIS ON HIS SCHOOL BUS!HE TOLD ME THAT HE WANTED THIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY.WELL THANK GOODNESS AMAZON HAD IT AND FOR CHEAP! I NEVER KNEW THAT ORDERING COULD BE SO FUN AND FAST!
The Reason I rarely buy stupid popular character kids music.......2006-01-07
Popular fad kids music willl never be able to compare to the perfection that is Trout fishing in America. Fresh, funny, lively addictive music the whole family will want to listen to together.
I was introduced to Trout fisning in America long before I had kids. My husband had 2 CDs fromhis college days.
Every single son on this tape is memerable. YOu will find yourself singing, or trying to sing along in the case of Proper Cup of Coffee!
There are way too many laugh out loud lyrics, the music is contagious and makes you want to move.
Lastly Lullaby is actually a sweet beautiful piece.
NOt only are they fun songs but these 2 men have great voices!

On their third outing, Guru and Premier continue to deliver intellectual hardcore, mixing deft rhymes with serious beatology. Premier continues to mine the jazz vaults, uncovering some seriously dusty grooves, with which he concocts some of the best minimalist hip-hop to ever be committed to wax. Just listen to "The Place Where We Dwell." Made up of nothing more than a looped drum track and scratching, it illustrates the less-is-more aesthetic to a T. Guru once again lets loose with the monotone flow that is his trademark--a flow that tastes like slow-roasted butter. Furthermore, jams like "Ex Girl to the Next Girl" prove that there is such a thing as a good hip-hop love song that exudes street cred rather than syrupy wackness. The album is especially noteworthy for containing the progressive "I'm the Man," which marked the recorded debut of both Jeru the Damaja and Little Dap. Plus, "Soliloquy of Chaos" not only gets the Mensa award for word choice but also serves as an eloquent condemnation of the violence that had become de rigueur at hip-hop shows. --Spence Abbott
Customer Reviews:
Gang Starr's statement of superiority.......2007-04-07
While it wasn't their groundbreaking album (that'd be Step in the Arena) nor their best (in my opinion Moment of Truth), "Daily Operation" is perhaps the most important album of the Gang Starr discography, the one that put them on top of the early-90s east coast hip hop world and established Guru and Premier as hip hop legends. Widely imitated but never duplicated, this album helped define the jazzy hip hop sound that became synonymous with New York hip hop for years to come. Musically "Daily Operation" ranks with Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's Mecca and the Soul Brother and A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders as the greatest albums of an era. DJ Premier's productions are incredible, using a wide range of instrumentation including horns, keyboards, and some clever sampling to make a sound that is rich and tasteful, while maintaining a street feel with the grimy hooks and tough drumbeats. Some of these tracks are just masterpieces in themselves, and the prominence of sampled "Daily Operation" beats over the years is a testament to this. Guru holds his own on the mic as always. While not yet the wise teacher he would become on Moment of Truth, Guru drops knowledge and wisdom more than he ever had to this point, but also maintains a foot in the street with his classic bragadagio and battle raps. Religion starts to play a part in some of his rhymes, and he is supported by some guests from the young Gang Starr foundation including Group Home and Jeru the Damaja. This is a rare album where you can just pop it in and play it without ever wanting to skip a track. Overall, "Daily Operation" is fantastic, one of the very greatest albums of hip hop's golden age.
After an instrumental intro, albeit one that shows every bit of Premo's genius, the album begins with the short and gritty "The Place Where We Dwell," where Guru praises his hometown of Brooklyn over a tough, simple beat. "Flip the Script" has a great beat and hook and some nice rhymes, just a solid song. Perhaps the group's best known song appears here, "Ex Girl to Next Girl." This song has gorgeous horns in it, and Guru tells likable tales of female troubles, and this song shows everything lovable about the early-90s rap style. Over truly luscious strings, Guru addresses one of his prevalent pet-peeves, violence at rap concerts, on "Soliloquy of Chaos." Lil Dap and Jeru the Damaja are introduced on "I'm the Man," a great track full of very clever battle raps and punchlines. "Take It Personal" is classic Gang Starr material, preceded and succeeded by two excellent instrumental interludes. "2 Deep" is tough lyrically and rich musically, with horns and plentifully creative sampling. My favorite song may be "No Shame in My Game," mostly just because the beat is perfect. This beat is pure joy on a track. "Conspiracy" shows Guru's increasing social consciousness, addressing media injustice and the SAT's unfairness, and the beat features a very nice keyboard line and horn notes. "The Illest Brother" and "Hardcore Composer" are further classic material, and "B.Y.S." is similarly nice. "Much Too Much" makes a great trombone sample into a loop, and Guru does it justice. The laidback weed ode "Take Two and Pass" rounds out the album along with the closer, "Stay Tuned."
All praise that "Daily Operation" has ever received is warranted, but I feel it's still underrated. This album is a classic in every sense of the word. I hate to sound like this, but they really don't make rap albums like this anymore. This is an album I could spend my whole life listening to, in every way it's engineered to perfection. A must buy for any hip hop fan.
COME ON, NOW!!!!!.......2007-02-18
these negative reviews make me HO HUM!!!! my chest hurts from doing it so much. how does one diss the guru? no, he is not the best mc around, but the man delivered classic material!!!!! he is NOT the worst rapper ever. the man just has his own style. that, again, is what i like about him. mix that with primo's beats, and you have ESSENTIALITY at its best. it is presented brilliantly here.
Gang Starr's best work........2006-08-05
Gang Starr really put out some classic ish here. This is one of those albums that you may dismay as being sub-par, or even bad first listen if you arn't into underground, but you soon relize how this album is a gem. DJ Premeir, and Guru have been putting out classic material sence the late 80's, with there first full album "No More Mr. Nice Guy". Premo is widely regaurded as one of the finest producers to ever grace the boards in hip hop history, and his partner in crime Guru is known as The King Of monotone Rap.
This is artistically a incredible peice of work. Guru & Premo put out a style of Rap that wasnt commen in the 90's, and is non-existant now! A Minimalistic Producer known for playing a melody of three keys, and a obsession for scratching teaming up with a monotone soft spoken slow tempo rapper. Sound like a weird combonation right? Wrong... If Being a Hip Hop duo was a marrige Gang Starr would have been couple of the year for 10 years straight. This is the type of album you have to spend some time listening to, sure I have my favorite songs of the batch, but they are all solid, and the way Premo mixed together the songs, and even transitions is strokes of genius. Sure you can listen to "Im the man" 5 times, but you will get the full effect of "Im The Man" in the way Gang Starr men't for you to hear it if you listen to the tracks leading to it.
Everything seems timed perfectly. Strong in your face, phony rapper, and conspiracy theorys come in at the proper time for a full listen thru. The Interludes are also excellently timed. After hearing "Im The Man" you want something a little chill, & relax, so Premo follows it up with "92 Interlude" a soft short, but sweet 30 second paino riff. And even the intro is a great beat, than instead of it sounding like a new track they programmed it to go immediatly into the next track, cause the beats mix together. Guru lyrically is sharp, and he does not need much help, with only 2 guest appearences, and literally 2 guest appearences, sence premo controlls all the hook's with mastery Guru shows his lyrical powress, consistently spitting 30 plus bars in his monotone serious voice every track, except the interludes. In this album DJ premier seems to be the Architect, and Guru seems to be the foundation. Premier uses his mastery of beatmaking, programming, mixing, scatching, and especially sampling to construct a masterpeice around Guru's lyrics which are the foundation. Bottomline, you gotta pick this up if your a Hip Hop Head.
Gang Starr - Daily Operation.......2006-04-22
This album gets a 4.5 star from me. Falls shortly from bein 5. Guru is known for droppin ill rhymes on ill production. And he comes with it good on this album. Came out in 1992, so fairly old, but the replay value is high. All the songs on the album, I like them, all the lyrics you know of course, Guru is always keeping it real. Hell speak on girls, but in a more talented way, not a bubblegum way, which I repsect. Hell also speak on REAL topics, which gets all of my respect to emcees who do this. If you want a real hiphop album by a good emcee, then check this album out. And yes Guru has been known for having a lazy and non-enthusiastic flow, but hes on point with the lyrics and sh**, so just check it out. If you like real hiphop that is!
My Top 5 Songs
1.2 Deep
2.B.Y.S
3.Hardcore Composer
4.Im The Man
5.Soliloquy Of Chaos
Daily Operation operates correctly.......2006-04-16
To my mind, the three greatest hip-hop producers of all time is a set list that is not going to change for quite a while. The Wu-Tang Clan's Rza, Westcoast Kingpin Dr. Dre, and Eastcoast legend DJ Premier are the three sole producers in hip-hop who transcend the genre: their consistency, years in the game, and sheer impact upon the ever-changing sound of rap music is unrivalled. Others like Pete Rock, Havoc and Erick Sermon all have their respective claims, but none are on the same scale as these three. DJ Premier has been less well represented by me. That's all about to change. But, enough of that mini-digression.
Gang Starr are one of hip-hop's immortal duos. Taking the classic rapper-producer combination, this time with Guru as the emcee and the aforementioned DJ Premier as the man behind the boards, the Brooklyn, New York duo have been represented by some of the most consistent records hailing from the Eastcoast. Blending Guru's baritone, fierce opposition to the increasing influencing of the commercial world in hip-hop with Premier's astoundingly sophisticated blend of hard, sparse hip-hop rhythms and flamboyant jazz influences, Gang Starr released a string of top-notch releases throughout the 90's including the excellent "Step in the Arena", "Hard to Earn" and"Moment of Truth". But 1992's "Daily Operation" stands alone as arguably the duo's standout moment: and as my favourite Gang Starr release.

E.G. Daily's #1 1986 hit "Say It, Say It"..........2006-06-16
is on the 3rd CD of "Dance Classics: The Ultimate Collection".
Wonderful voice, heartfelt songs.......2003-12-07
E.G. has such a wonderful voice and is such a talented song writer. Here you have a more quiet side of her. She's not the "wild child" on this CD. The songs are deep and soft. A new side of E.G. that shows how versatile she is.
Great CD!!!!! Every song is fab!!!.......2001-10-10
This CD is awesone!!! and well worth the wait. just look at the ratings. Almost all 5 stars, (...). hahaha
A treasure!.......2001-10-06
E.G Daily was always one of my favorite 80's performers, which was one of the reasons I bought this C.D,but I was pleasantly blown away by the beauty of this collection. This is one of those rare CDs which is truly great from start to finish,I don't know why Miss Daily wastes her talents doing voiceovers, she's clearly one of the most talented singers in the business yet she remains a well kept secret! The world needs to hear you E.G!!
I love her but it's BORING!.......2001-07-19
I was so disappointed when I got this CD home after wanting it for so long. From the cover art, it looks like she's doing techno, but noooooo, it's these bland ballads. She really rocked out on her first 2 albums, what happened? None of the songs are distinctive or memorable. No wonder it got no airplay and wasn't a hit. Even the bland Natalie Imbruglia at least had one good song. Can't even find one in this set to recommend. I'm surprised your other writers here liked it! Maybe I'm just too picky. I love her voice, but clearly this proves she needs commercial hitmaker songwriters like she used on her previous albums.

Underground Suburbian Bible.......2000-10-08
To observe, then tell, and at the same time get the point across to a wide range of society is hard enough. To paint these little essays against a beautiful background of modern suburbian life is awe-inspiring. Timmy Rogers has always been a master of the catchy tune, but the way this album's melodies and wordplay are married, you have to believe he is one of the most underrated songwriters of our time. It's as if the Who of '66, got collabaration from the Beach Boys, and were given lyrics from a young, Jam-led Paul Weller. It was three years ago that I first heard it, and I still cry at the sheer beauty of its simplicity and profoundness.
