Virtuoso piper Eric Rigler and his world music band Bad Haggis have released a long-awaited fourth recording, WINE DARK SEA. WINE DARK SEA with its 11 songs joins Bad Haggis previously released ARK and Trip albums and SURROUND MUSIC AWARDS-nominated 2004 DVD SPAN. The disc includes Cinderella Man, original end credits music Eric wrote and performed for the 2005 film of the same name starring Russell Crowe. Bad Haggis features Eric, "the world's most recorded piper," whose bagpipes and whistles are featured on more than 50 film soundtracks from Hollywood blockbusters BRAVEHEART and TITANIC to the 2005 Oscar winner MILLION DOLLAR BABY. The band is Eric on Scottish and Irish bagpipes and whistles, Mick Linden on bass guitars & vocals, Mike Hoffmann on lead guitars, Rogerio Jardim on drums & vocals and Alberto Lopez on percussion. All five players wrote and arranged the songs. Fans of Erics phenomenal pipe skills will enjoy The Rocky Road to Dublin that wraps traditional Irish pipe tunes around his own composition, Cinderella Man. Likewise, Sleepy Maggie combines traditional Scottish pipe tunes seamlessly with the 1980s hit song by The Cure, Hot! Hot! Hot!!! Three tracks feature vocals in Portuguese or Spanish Ventania (Gale Wind), Beijo (Kiss) and Barcos (Ships), co-written by Salsa superstar Rubn Blades. Nimble Attitude describes an LA traffic jam, complete with screeching brakes, crunching metal and breaking glass. Water imagery is a recurrent theme for Bad Haggis, from the discs title, taken from Homers epic poems The Iliad and The Odyssey, to individual songs and their lyrics such as Love Carry Water, Horizon and Prayers. Bad Haggis uses its own one-of-a-kind musical vocabulary to assemble a number of existing styles and influences, including rock, jazz, pop, alternative, groove, African, Celtic and Latin, into a cutting-edge world-music language.

Not pure Celtic, but mighty tasty nonetheless.......2006-10-24

This CD is like a nine course meal, all of which is mighty tasty! The rhythm section is tight, the vocals and harmonies are tight, the piping is technical and harmonizes exceptionally well with the guitar.
The guys in Bad Haggis take us on a musical journey, fusing several different musical genres together, but each is satisfying in its own right.
The hooks are solid, the melodies are memorable - this is a keeper...my personal favorite is "Sleepy Maggie" with the hook-y "Hey...Hey...Hey....Hot...Hot...Hot" chorus....(and no, not THAT Hot, Hot, Hot, cliche-song)
Wish Amazon made pre-listen samples avaiable, but trust me - this one IS HOT, HOT, HOT....

Not a Celtic CD.......2006-08-19

This is the first Bad Haggis CD I've purchased that I bought after hearing the Rocky Road to Dublin cut on an Internet radio station. This cut is intriguing, quirky pipes, just what I like. Eric Rigler is a well-known piper so I figured the rest of the CD would be more of the same: celtic rock with lots of pipes.

Wrong! If you hold your mouth just right, you could claim that there are three, maybe four, Celtic rock cuts. The online description describes the album as "influences of rock, alternative, jazz, pop, groove, world beat, African and Latin" That's pretty accurate, that's what you get, but not much Celtic rock. This CD is in no way similar to Wicked Tinkers, Old Blind Dogs, or Peat Bog Faeries. Nor is it like early Seven Nations.

In sum, if you're looking for "influences of rock, alternative, jazz, pop, groove, world beat, African and Latin" you'll be as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine. However, if you're looking for over the top Celtic Rock, lots of rabid piping, etc. you will be very disappointed with Wine Dark Sea.

all other work by Bad Haggis is great, so why wouldn't this be?
Nimble Attitude is great, that's all i know. It on their site.
If your into Celtic Rock, but want more celtic instrumentals, this is the cd, and the band you want to buy.

More of a whisper.......2004-11-19

I was introduced to Primal Scream, well, their music at least, by this favorite person I used to know. I had no music of my own at the time, or so I thought. I mean no one at the age of 23 admits to liking John Denver. Anyway, I purchased all of Primal Screams albums. I hated them all. I thought they were chaotic and redundant. Except this one. This surprised me. Tranquil and hazy. Its like being alone in your thoughts, without life intruding. So, I sent the others away but this one I keep. Thanks JS.

I love Primal Scream!.......2000-01-15

There is just no-end to their talents. It's obvious because of this early release from the masters. It's typical brit-pop for the time. But it stands right up there with the Stone Roses and the other musical innovators of the time. The most amazing thing is listening to them now. They've come a long way baby. Primal Scream is one of the greatest bands that ever graced the scene. Scoop this rare gem up now!

Another Great Primal Scream Album!.......1999-07-17

It's hard to believe that this is the same Primal Scream from the albums "Vanishing Point" and "Screamadelica". They sound a lot like early Stone Roses, which came around just about the same time as this. "Sonic Flower Groove" is excellent, every song is short, pretty, and gets to the point. The only problem (which is why this is only a 4 star album) is that this just is not their masterpiece..."Screamadelica" is. This is by far though, one of the best albums of pretty psychedelic pop songs I've ever heard. I particularly like the songs,"Gentle Tuesday","May The Sun Shine Bright For You","Imperial", and "Love You". These are my favorites, but buy this album now (because it is really difficult to find for this price) to discover all of your favorites.

This is my third time I bought this album. My first CD was stolen, the second one was lost, & now that I'm going to buy my third one you can really tell that I really loves this songs. I really recommend this to anyone who really loves freestyle and really groovy beats.

This is a great cd and all the songs except for #6 are really good. Ilove this cd and its hard to find so if u get it buy it it is so worth the money. Katalina should have tons of records out but hey who knows what happened but this cd now u wont be dissapointed promise u

Great CD.......1999-11-11

This is a great cd! Even though it's 3 YEARS OLD!It's still good. I'm gonna buy it a second time-YES at full price! Don't know why PPL are saying it's not good-All the songs are dance/freestyle cept # 6 which is a tight ballad. Get it-it is "worth $15"-even way more than that. Don't know if she still records.Guess U have to be into tha club scene to really understand "dj girl'

An average album at best, a couple of songs stand out.......1999-07-17

Okay, so I probably made a huge mistake buying this CD at full price, but I'll be fine. Anyway, "D.J. Girl" is a weird song (most of it is dialogue between Katalina and the bouncer at the door of the club), it's got a decent beat, but it needed more bass. "Feel the Rhythm" is a tight song, great beat and danceable lyrics. "Sonic Groove" is an okay song as well. In conclusion--buy this only if you can get it at a bargain basement price, don't drop down 15 bucks for this. This album would have got 3 stars, but Katalina's picture on the CD case (she's dressed up as a teeny-bopper on the phone, listening to 45's...very 50's) gets a star by itself.

Brooklyn-Detroit -German Style Tech. in 1 CD.......2005-03-23

I bought this cd when it was new in 2001 and it showed me that Frankie, Adam, and Heather have vast knowledge of connecting classic techno with the new to make something entirely creative. It has a dark feel to it and defines a twisted sound that most celeb DJ's in shy away from. The mix tells it's story through a beat mix that pounds at a steady pace at about 120-125bpm. In other words, it's slow and deliberate vibe captures the dark side of techno very well.

From Bad To Better.......2002-01-12

I must say
When opening this cd, i was happy that i could add another Frankie Bones project to my collection. I absolutly love the man and his music :)
So i press play on track 1, and EEEEEEEEEEEK!!
This had to be the worst opening to a cd EVER! The first 4 or 5 tracks are HORRIBLE! Absolutly heartbreaking disgustingly horrible! It isn't till the 6th song that Frankie himself comes on and totally changes the pace the cd is going. He basically saves this cd from getting no stars at all! From track 6 and on, the cd keeps a decent tone to it and so, i give from tracks 6 through End : 3 stars... and tracks 1 through 5 : -20 stars!

Electro\Techno masterpiece.......2004-05-03

This is as good as it gets. An Electro slash Techno opus that wields punchy, hermetic basslines, this release is inarguably Adam Mitchell's best work to date. Do not be fooled by these flaky, flim-flam reviewers who have not an iota on what novel electronic productions exist. Adam's afflatus encompasses music ramging from lugubrious industrial ballads to solid techno lilts. This album, sine quanon, must have a place in any vault of a serious Techno listener.

Zzzzzzz........ AdaM X could have done better...Zzzzzzzzzzzz.......2002-06-15

I was slightly disappointed with this release by AdAm X. I had seen Adam X live at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival this year and I was very impressed with his set-- so I picked up Audiobiography. I would have to be in a mellow mood to listen to this CD-- the techno was sort of minimal and that is something that I'm not too much into. Audiobiography will NOT make you want to get up and dance-- so if you're looking for a danceable CD you're not going to find that here.

A live EP from a band that never was...but should have been........2007-04-01

First off, the production on this live CD is superb! Vocalist Christine Navarro is deeply emotional and moving in all the songs. There is even a song on here on which a verse is sung in German, and it works!!! This could be best described as the heavy rock genre (though there are a couple slow songs.) Some joker ruins the song "I'm In You" by rapping, but thankfully the rest of the song is good. This band disbanded shortly before they received a national record deal. Too bad, they could have made it. The singing and drumming are the high points, and lyrically this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it shows that they weren't just jotting down lyrics when they wrote the stuff. If you can get a copy of this, it is well worth a listen.
