Our Kind of Soul, the follow-up to 2003's VH1-propelled Do It for Love, is mostly a can't-miss proposition: Daryl Hall's smooth, expressive voice, synonymous with the Philly soul sound, is so well suited to this material that it feels shrink-wrapped overtop. "Can't Get Enough of Your Love," the Barry White classic, is given a breezy makeover (and, maybe more impressively considering that most artists wouldn't touch it, not mangled); Teddy Pendergrass' "Love TKO" is dusted off and tinkered with till it takes on a signature H&O sound; and "After the Dance," one of Marvin Gaye's most cryptic compositions, comes across like a solved mystery--there's a gentleness and a reverie in the reading will prompt thoughtful listeners to return to it more than a few times. That said, a couple of these covers--the O'Jays "Used to Be My Girl" and Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady"--seem cursory, and the duo can count on a cranky contingent decrying their lack of fresh material. But the strength of three songs introduced here should keep them at bay. First track "Let Love Take Control" gutsily and convincingly glides into Four Tops' "Standing in the Shadows of Love," "Soul Violins" strikes notes at once heartfelt and spontaneous, and "Don't Turn Your Back" has the classic Hall & Oates marks of their-kind-of-soul songs like "Out of Touch." --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Great renditions of some soul standards.......2007-07-29

This is a great album, well sung, well produced. Good choice of songs. These guys are aging like a fine wine - just getting better and better.

5 out of 5 stars Gettin Back to the Basics.......2007-05-26

This is their best work in a long time. They recorded a lot of classic soul songs. What makes this collection so unique is they recorded them close to how the songs were originally written. They use acoustic guitars and violins. Of course they put the classic H&O style. In many cases their version is better than the original.

There are a couple of new songs on the CD also. I like those also. I notice the boys are getting back to their roots the older they get. I would give this CD a 10 out of 10. With the best song being Soul Violins. If you like soul music this is a must for your collection.

The more I listen to this CD the more I like it! There is nothing better than sweet soul music done with acoustic instruments. I started reading the cover and found the CD was recorded in 5 weeks at Daryl's home in the Bahamas!

The background vocals are amazing. I just love the way they harmonize with each other. Daryl still has his pipes and can still hit those really high notes. He does a great rendition of the Al Green classic "Still in Love".

I heard an interview with John Oates one time were he said "he brings a certain shortness to the group". I think he is selling himself short! (Ha I made a pun) His rendition of "Ooh Child" is remarkable. It's like the song was written for him.

I noticed that on many of the songs some of the lyrics and the key were changed. At first I had a problem with this, because I am used to hearing the songs done a certain way. I get it now! They took these classic R&B songs and made them Hall & Oates songs. This was done intentionally and I have to say it works.

5 out of 5 stars Timeless, Ageless, Music.......2007-05-12

When I heard #3 played on the radio, I looked everywhere for the CD. I recognized D.Hall's voice right away. This is MUSIC,timeless, ageless talent and style. Thank you AMAZON.com and Thanks to Hall and Oates.

5 out of 5 stars Daryl Still knows what Soul is all about. .......2007-04-25

Hall and Oats were one of the only Blue Eye Soul groups I believed understood what soul is about. Over the years I haven't heard much from them. I just happen to catch the concert on tv, it looked like it was at some big bar in the suburbs at first. But I understand it was in the Bahama's.
I was very delighted to hear that Daryl Hall still can sing. The songs were not songs from their music but covers of various R&B songs from people such as Gladys Knght and the O'Jays and the Four Tops. and one or two newer original songs. Whoever said their version of the O'Jays, She Use to Be My Girl was the worst song he ever heard must not of listened to any of the 10,000 cd's he has. It was fine, I get nervous when people sing covers of great R&B songs. Most do it pretty horrendously. Not Daryl Hall even 34 years later the man can still sing and he does a very good job singing that song. Surprisingly he took on sacred cows like Neither One of Us, by Gladys Knight and he was excellent. He did not try to over sing Gladys, he made the song his own. He sang Rock Steady like he has been singing it all of his life.
Same with Marvin Gaye's song.
Again I will say Hall and Oates were the only Blue Eye Soul group particulary Daryl Hall who knows what soul is about and that is why they were able to tackle songs most singers would sound foolish singing. This CD proves it.

1 out of 5 stars 'Used ta be my girl' gets my vote for worst song of all time!.......2007-03-13

I consider myself a music expert or something close to it. I own close to 10,000 albums. I say this because I hope that you will listen to some very good advice. Do not buy this album. Do not borrow it from the library. If you see it in the record store, look away as fast as you can. 'She used to be my girl' is the WORST song I have ever heard. That is taking into consideration all of the generic bubblegum pop, 80's hair metal, disco, and rock blands that I have had the misfortune to hear. To describe it as infinitely dreadful would be giving it too much credit. 'The O'Jays' should be ashamed and embarrassed that they are responsible for this miserable catastrophe of a 'song.' Daryl Hall & John Oates simply take 'worst' to a whole new low. Absolutely horrible! Hearing this song is like being forced to eat cow dung while suspended by your toe nails above a steaming pit of molten lead. Please, do not buy this album! (Rating: No stars whatsoever!)

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Despite hailing from Detroit, the Spinners had only sporadic success as a Motown act, most notably with the Stevie Wonder-produced "It's a Shame." But with the early-'70s addition of Philippe Wynne as lead singer and new associations with Atlantic Records and producer Thom Bell, the group was transformed into one of the decade's key soul acts. With Wynne's gorgeous voice and ever-inventive improvisations riding Bell's smooth tracks, the Spinners made deathless single after deathless single while also committing must-own LPs like the self-titled one that featured "I'll Be Around." A One of a Kind Love Affair charts the great career of an outfit with truckloads of both R&B and pop credibility. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars BOBBY SMITH ....THE SPINNERS' REAL LEAD SINGER !!.......2007-01-24

I've always been one for giving credit where it's due...and in the case of THE SPINNERS, one person always gets way TOO MUCH, and another doesn't get NEARLY ENOUGH.That person is the fantastic BOBBIE SMITH. BOBBIE has been the REAL LEAD SINGER OF THE SPINNERS FROM DAY ONE !!! He sang lead on the SPINNERS VERY FIRST HIT BACK IN 1961... ( That's What Girls Are Made For )...and also their first million seller ( "I'll Be Around" ). In between ,he lead virtually ALL of their PRE MOTOWN HITS ("Too Young, Too Much, Too Soon","What Did She Use " ,etc.)and such MOTOWN CLASSICS AS "TRULY YOURS" (my favorite SPINNERS song },"I'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU "(the group's second biggest Motown hit} ,"SWEET THING",AND TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE SUCH SWEET MUSIC "("IT'S A SHAME WAS LED BY G.C. CAMERON,who couldn't go with the group when they went to ATLANTIC,because he was still under contract to MOTOWN). And SMITH also led THEIR BIGGEST ATLANTIC HITS "COULD IT BE I'M FALLING IN LOVE " ,"GAMES PEOPLE PLAY ","MIGHTY LOVE",(a shared lead} and "THEN CAME YOU"...Yet , Bobbie get's VIRTUALLY NO CREDIT FOR HIS PART IN THE SPINNERS' SUCCESS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS..AND NEVER HAS !! In newspaper & magazine articles, music history books , even in ATLANTIC RECORDS own liner notes... all the credit goes to PHLLIP WALKER {aka PHILLIPPE WYNNE )!! Some music writers have even gone so far as to credit Phillippe for songs BOBBIE ACTUALLY SANG LEAD ON!! While I don't take anything away from Phillippe (he was a fantastic singer & dancer ), the REALITY is that his initial single with the SPINNERS, "HOW COULD I LET YOU GET AWAY"(which he sang lead on), ONLY REACHED #77 ON THE BILLBOARD pop chart! It was only after the nations' disc jockeys TURNED THE RECORD OVER TO IT'S FLIP SIDE,"I'LL BE AROUND" which BOBBIE SMITH sang lead on,, that the group had it's FIRST MILLION SELLER !! BOBBIE ALSO SANG LEAD ON THE GROUP'S SECOND MILLION SELLER, " COULD IT BE I'M FALLING IN LOVE ".By the time their 1st ATLANTIC ALBUM'S 3rd single , the WYNNE- lead "ONE OF A KIND LOVE AFFAIR" came out, (which also sold a million ),the two SMITH -LED SONGS had already established the SPINNERS as SUPERSTARS,and propelled the sales of that album to GOLD RECORD STATUS. The fact is that while PHILLIPE was hopping and skipping across the stage, driving audiences wild ,it was BOBBIE SMITH that was selling all the records,WYNNE having led on only one other million seller, the fun and funny novelty song "RUBBERBAND MAN "(Most of the WYNNE-led tunes were bigger on the R&B charts than on the POP. BOBBIE also sang lead (with DIONNE WARWICK}, on the million-selling # 1 smash,"THEN CAME YOU", and another million seller "GAMES PEOPLE PLAY".(Can you believe MOTOWN rejected his voice ? BIG MISTAKE !!) However , Wynne's powerful performance of "I COULD NEVER REPAY YOUR LOVE " was also a highlight of their INCREDIBLE FIRST ATLANTIC ALBUM,many radio stations having played the song right off the album.Sadly, Wynne's DAVID RUFFIN-LIKE attitude , demanding TOP BILLING, and causing turmoil within the group, and with their producer,THOM BELL,threatened to tear the SPINNERS apart. But the SPINNERS existed long before PHILLIPPE WYNNE,and they still exist today.....And,GUESS WHAT? BOBBIE SMITH is still their lead singer. It's time HE got the credit he deserves.

5 out of 5 stars TY BESS(THE MUSIC MAN) .......2006-12-23

For those of you looking for the very best of the spinners this is the cd for you.It has every radio hit on it along with some unreleased songs this cd is for the people that are not sure about what spinners cd to buy.
This is it enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars It's a reason Rhino is the best at reissues and compliations and this comp shows why........2006-08-17

I can't think of anything wrong with this set.The song selection is excellent, the sound quality is superb. The liner notes are...you get the ideal! It's just that good.Just look at the song listing and keep in mind that all these songs are in their full length/album versions. No chippy choppy single/radio edits here.If Phillipe Wynne was alive now,he'd even say "Damn! We were bad weren't we?" Thanks to Rhino records for showing yet again how a complation should be done.

4 out of 5 stars Good Career Overview.......2006-08-12

Here's a good retrospective of the highlights of one of the most highly-talented aggregations in the annals of R&B/Popular music. Most 'old skool' music listeners know the Spinners' output well, as their releases from "It's A Shame" onward through most of the Atlantic Records albums and singles are now considered as true classics, ranking with the best music of the period. What you get here; besides the hits and some of their best album tracks, is a fascinating insight, via the well-written liner notes, into the progression of their storied career - both the 'ups' and the 'downs' - and a better understanding of what made for an exceptional combination of songwriters; singers and record producer/arranger with the Thom Bell connection. Philippe' Wynne is almost legendary as a singer and this package takes you from the early Motown sides before the 'Soul' man came on board thru the rest of their best years. Most longtime fans rejoice because all of their releases from the Atlantic period can now be obtained on CD, which makes for even better listening with the smooth rhythms, lush orchestrations and quality recording productions that still are hallmarks of what many believe are the greatest years of creative musical output in American music. If you can't afford to re-buy all the original works, then get this solid collection and you'll have more than enough to keep your soul satisfied! Hats 'off ' to Rhino, as well, for again doing the reissue thing the right way, as they always do.

5 out of 5 stars If you love the Spinners this is it.......2005-12-10

If you are a Spinners nut like I am, you will be very satisfied with this cd. Even though a couple of songs I would have added does not appear( Cupid and a beautiful song called Just to be with you) I strongly recommend this anthology of hits. This group I feel was very under rated and almost got lost in the Motown experience. This is a group that should be ranked up there with the temptations, Four Tops and the Dells. Also Phillipe Wynne is one of the most soulful and talented singers ever. I am so sorry we could not enjoy him a little longer, RIP. I also enjoyed reading the background on them and their past and last lead singers. This is an awesome cd, so I suggest you go out and get it for your musical library.

5 out of 5 stars Another masterpiece from the legendary Ray Charles.......2004-12-24

What can I say? Ray Charles is kickin' it with my man Quincy Jones on this one. It's full of jazz, blues, funky R&B and a lot of flavor from the big bands. This is more of a jazz/big band album since Quincy Jones 1969-70 classic WALKING IN SPACE.
    A must-have.

4 out of 5 stars One good one, one not so good.......2004-10-04

Genius + Soul is fantastic! Ray Charles on the B-3-what more do you need to know? If you do need to know more, it features players like Clark Terry, Thad Jones, Fathead Newman, Frank Foster and Roy Haynes-- in fact, on some of the tracks the band is the then-current version of the Basie band, minus the Count of course --with arrangements by Quincy Jones and someone named Ralph Burns, who is just as good. It rocks. It's too bad Ray doesn't sing more-just on I've Got News for You, I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town and sort of on One Mint Julip--but still, this is as soulful as jazz gets.

On the other hand, My Kind of Jazz is clearly filler, which Rhino, to its credit, pretty much admits. There are extensive new notes on Genius + Soul written for the 16 page booklet included with this reissue, including comments on every track, but on My Kind of Jazz there are all of two paragraphs (the first paragraph starts "With the added space available in the CD format"-in other words, we had some extra space to fill). It's pretty good if you're a fan of big band music, kinda got a little funk goin' on, although not nearly as much soul or blues feel as Genius + Soul, and other then Blue Mitchell I've never heard of the players (the drummer is listed as "unknown"). But you'd never know this was a Ray Charles album. His piano is low in the mix, and his few solos are undermiked and unusually tentative-sounding. And in general it's a little on the generic side, unlike Genius + Soul, which is Ray all the way, vocals or no.

I still gave it the whole CD four stars because Genius + Soul is just so damn good.

3 out of 5 stars Not Ray at his best.......2000-12-17

I feel bad disagreeing with the other reviewers, who seem to love this album, but I think its pretty uninspired and I don't like it much. The arrangements are often pretty limp, the soloing isn't great, Ray doesn't sing but on 2 songs, which is too bad because his voice is as expressive as his piano playing. This disk sounds to me like Ray Charles trying to cash in on the soul-jazz movement of the mid-to-late 1960's by adopting that style - and given that Charles is an innovator of the first order, his adoption of a style he didn't invent doesn't come off right, to my ears. Don't get me wrong, Ray Charles is a great jazz artist, but I think the place to hear it is on "Soul Brothers/Soul Meeting," his late 1950's teaming with Milt Jackson, or on David "Fathead" Newman's solo records of the 1950's, where you can hear Charles's classic band doing some excellent straight-ahead jazz. Still, it gets three stars because some parts aren't bad, and because its Ray Charles.

5 out of 5 stars Some of Ray's finest and best efforts.......2000-05-18

I love Ray Charles, and out of everything I have that he's recorded, this disc gets played the most. The rich mixture of Latin tempos, big band, jazz orchestra, and Ray's intoxicating organ and lyrics jump out and grab you from the first song to the last. This is music you can't sit still to and just reeks with class and Ray's brilliant musical talent. One listen and you're hooked.

5 out of 5 stars Nothing But Genius.......2000-03-18

Ray Charles gets down with his Homeboy Quincy Jones and they&Ralph Burns make History with this set.Ray is Rocking on the Organ. The Band is Slamming.everything here is on time.a must have.

5 out of 5 stars My Kind of Blues as well.......2006-08-15

I had read that this was B.B. Kings' favorite album. After hearing I can see why. I don't know what year this was produced, but from the cover photo it seems to be early in his career.

Many of the songs are blues standards that have been covered by others, but in BB's hands, they sound like true blues songs.

While the recording is may not be up to current standards, his voice is top notch. I have never heard it stronger. His guitar playing may not be the fastest or most complex, but it shows the solid BB King playing style with all his signature licks.

If you are a fan, you need this. If you are interested in his music, or electric blues, this should be part of your collection.

5 out of 5 stars The one, if one only.......2002-12-12

The material on this album is probably the most widely available B. B. King on the planet. Numerous inexpensive compilations include four or five of its tracks (often the most striking ones) along with tracks from other periods of King's career. Yet "My Kind of Blues" is the source, and it may be the purest expression of King's blues.

    B. B. himself called this album his favorite of the many he'd recorded (at the time of the quote), and it's hard to imagine anything more essential. I have lots of his albums--most of the 50s material, most of the 60s albums, some of the 70s, and a couple from the 80s. The only other album I like as much is "Spotlight on Lucille," an all-instrumental compilation that complements this album in much the same way that Freddie King's "Just Pickin'" complements "Freddie Sings."

Which isn't to say that "Live at the Regal" or "Live at Cook County Jail" or the Virgin/Flair 50s compilations aren't as good! Perhaps what I like most about "My Kind of Blues" is its focus and coherence. It sounds like an album recorded as an album (unlike most of King's 50s material) with the most basic of bands and with the intent of making a statement. It lacks the larger band sound of the live albums and of much of the typical 50s recordings. It also lacks the enthusiasm of a crowd, but when the performances are this impassioned, the crowd is not at all missed.

Such as on 'Catfish Blues,' which is so dynamic it's perhaps my favorite version of this standard. There's a fine balance between the couldn't-be-more-classic-B.B. cuts of 'You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now' and 'It's My Own Fault, Darlin',' letting us know what's always been part of King's blues message--that relationship is a mutual responsibility. 'Mr. Pawnbroker' describes marital blues from a pawnbroker's perspective. The best thing about all the songs is that they feature King's voice and guitar, upfront sharp and strong, in a spare, blue setting.

I'd been looking for this album for years, having heard how great it was and having heard evidence of its greatness on various compilations, but expecting never to see it (Crown? in what record shops??). Thank you Capitol for making it available and at such a low price. I would have been happy to pay far more, of course, and would have liked to pay more just for some informational packaging (this has no notes, band information, recording dates--nothing). But the CD sounds very good (better than the wellspringing compilations), and I feel grateful for its appearance.

I knew Randy C. since early eighty back in Italy were I was born and living. At that time I did not understand what this talented singer what saying in English...but who cared! The emotions she was sending through the air said it all. She sings with passion and embraces you in her ups and downs. Now that I live in the USA and fluent with the tong I still do not paid attention to the lyrics and I just let myself being transported by the trill of her inspiring voice. She could sing the "Yellow pages" and still give you the shivers! The entire album is excellent, a canvas for Randy artistic expression. My favorite tunes: Breaking Down, Unwounded, Silence, Changes, Captain of Her Heart (I was looking for this single and what a nice surprice to see it sang from Ms Randy!), Wishing On A Star, Honey For My Honey and Hymn of the Big Wheel. Highly recommended. Please Britney and related-clones hide!

This disc is one of my favorites. Her style of singing is so smooth~ it's like she's in the room with you. I love the high energy version of "Wishing On A Star"~Best I've heard. I highly reccomend it for a long road trip, a rainy evening by the fire, house cleaning, entertaining in the back yard. It sets the mood.

I love just about all of Randy Crawford's music, but this one has something special. For starters, the Captain of her heart is one of my favorites as well as I'd be an angel. The album is great to listen to while talking with a date or having dinner. The music is smooth and relaxing, the vocals are awesome. It is great to just listen and groove to. I'm sure if you try it you will love it. She has one of the best voices in the industry.

    Album Description

This is an eclectic mix of music -- at times, blues, jazz, southern rock, country, funk & even folk. Often times it's a mixture of all these styles which makes up the sound of the music of Blue Mother Tupelo. There's something on this disc for everyone who loves music with soul. Great female/male vocal interplay and harmonies as well as outstanding guitar which all intermingles with sharp production. The musical journey on this disc will take you through the sounds and vibes of the American South while capturing life's experiences in its songs. This is truly a solid, wonderful album from beginning to end.

This is a great CD! I'm so happy that I ran across it here. The jams are tight & loose at the same time. Good swampy stuff and downright soulfull. I'll be keeping my eyes out for anything else Blue Mother Tupelo comes out with. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves music that jams with a southern Mississippi/swampy Louisiana/high lonesome Appalachian mountain combination. And their other CD rocks too ... I've got them both! What a band! 5 stars!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars A Super-Dance-Diva REWORKED!.......2005-12-18

When one hears of singer-song writer Marie-Claire Cremers, popularly known as Amber, automatically what comes to mind is her well deserved reputation as a super dance diva, who amidst the atmosphere of teeny-bop recyclable dance music of Britney, N'Sync and the likes of them, hijacked the dance floor and delivered some groundbreaking, foot-moving material such as the hits: "This is Your Night" (1996), "Sexual" (1999), "Love One Another" (1999), and "Yes!" (2001). Continuing in that tradition, staying faithful to her dance roots, under the auspices of Tommy Boy Records, Amber never failed in delivering a highly successful dance album; she did precisely that with her still recent album "Naked". However, as we all well know, traditions are sometimes in need of renovation or reconstructing - and "My Kind of World" is precisely the embodiment of that reconstructing - it is Amer the Super Dance Diva completely and, may I say, brilliantly reworked! After all, who says that only Madonna can be reinvented? "My Kind of World" is certain evidence of Amber's metamorphosis. How is this album different, you might think - from her previous gems: "Naked", "Amber" and "This is Your Night"? For one thing it is definitely much more edgier and polished. Indignantly, "My Kind of World" seems to flirt throughout its twelve tracks with a more rockier sound, one which erupts in a crescendo of rockin' dance fury on hit-potentials like "Voodoo" and especially "Sacrificial Lamb" (my personal favorite). Although successfully reworked, and lounched from her own record label, JMCA Enterprises, "My Kind of World" is not entirely a departure from the good-old days of dance -moving hits. "You Move Me" and "Voodoo" supply the best shock of energy to this album and songs such as "Same Old Paradise" and "Just Like That" are reminiscent of previous Amber treats like "Object of Your Desire" (1999) and "Anyway" (2002). While magnificantly reworked, the album does seem to have one overbearing flaw - track after track, it seems like the theme of 'hurt' and 'suffering' and 'retribution' manages to be at times overwhelming if not a bit tacky. From listening to "My Kind of World" one undoubtedly gets the feeling that this lady has been hurt before - but after you hear it in the context of different lyrics, track after track after track, you sort of wish she was a little less honest.....Nevertheless, even this bit of information should not stop you from buying this CD: for true Amber fans this will be undoubtedly a pleasant treat and for the rest of you, it should be a great introducion to an artist who takes her job seriously and always delivers mature and sensual music. After purchasing "My Kind of World" also make sure to check out the "Voodoo (Ugly Doll Remix)" and "Just Like That (Jason Nevins Remix)" as they make great companions to this already hit-stuffed album. Here is my breakdown:
    1) Crucified Solitude (3/5)
    2) You Move Me (4/5)
    3) Voodoo (5/5)
    4) Same Old Paradise (5/5)
    5) Sacrificial Lamb (7/5) (EXCELLENT!!!)
    6) Private War (4/5)
    7) When a Love Grows Cold (5/5)
    8) Just Like That (5/5)
    9) City of Pain (5/5)
    10) Your Kind of World (4/5)
    11) More Time for a Child (5/5)
    12) Don't Follow Me Home (5/5)

    5 out of 5 stars from & by a music lover and a collector.......2005-11-30

ok, first of all, i am not a fan but a highly discerning and very selective music lover and a collector

i am even very picky just over every word of the lyrics also.

and Amber, i dont know if you will ever read this, but i am currently in love with just how you sing strong and forceful and oh so powerful and then the smile on your face comes on and then when you say 'baby, babe, yeah' your smile get's entirely wily, which, if i was a man, would probably be just about the sexiest thing i have ever heard, and i have never seen you but i can 'hear' your eyes twinkling in your voice and currently quite enamored with just the 'baby, babe, yeaaaah' part.

ok, i am sure my madness shall pass somehow eventually, and i will get better :), but i just had to try and see if i can somehow tell Amber, that Amber, i have no idea what the heck you were all worried about doing it 'differently' and 'venturing into something unlike previous Amber stuff', as in - i am listening and thinking this girl is even more amazing then i thought, having been loving Amber music and lyrics from the first song Amber has ever made known, and now i am thinking WOW and especially, why were you holding all that back to begin with ? i feel like you may have been short changing me all this time, Amber.

glad you finally got unconfused, and ok, there is a couple of tracks which i am skiping, which do not pass my 'pickiness filter' and thats just the way it goes as i have never in my life gotten a CD where i did not dislike at least half of the songs and the other half i listen to over and over and over and over and

i feel to have been posessed to come here and type it here in case Amber sees it ever. thanks Amber.

this is even the first ever 'review' i have ever posted, could even be the last. on amazon or anywhere.

Amber, just keep singing whatever comes to your mind, and makes you happy and makes you feel and your voice sound like the sexiest woman in the world. perhaps the better way to describe the nature of the lyrics is seemingly simple and every day ! at a first hear-see ! but then one should look up in the dictionary the word 'subtle' as in - if you dont pay good attention and are not just a little bit enlightened you will look right at things and still entirely miss them and you know what, that's just too bad thats exactly what 'sublety' is for.

Amber, you could loose some, you'll keep them mostly, if they liked you to begin with, and you will also find a whole bunch of new ones. to make up aplenty for the ones lost.

and dont you dare even think of stopping to sing or even just to slow down. i would like more, actually and as soon as you only can. please ?

ok, and i guess Amber would appeal more to the kind of a man with some outrageously high iq.

oh, and to anyone else reading this other then Amber, any time an artist starts saying something to the effect of 'i am finally creating what i have been wanting to be creating all along' thats exactly the best time to be buying any and all creations/products they are making available publicly, that only means they are about to get at least a whole bunch even better, if you liked them before, and if you did not like them much before, might just fall in love with them right about now.

    4 out of 5 stars Amber Rocks!.......2005-11-14

This had to be one of the best CD's I have ever bought, Amber's previous CD's were great, but this one is just really, really good. I mean she has matured so much since her last album, I like the rock edge, especially since I am beginning to love rock music. ~.^ Anyway here is a rundown of the tracks:

(1.) Crucified Solitude: it starts out with some cool Middle Eastern sounds which are really cool, then she starts belting out this song like Christina Aguilera wishes she can. (5/5)

(2.) You Move Me: This is like Amber's old style, but a little more rock, which is a good thing. This was also deservedly a radio hit. (4.5/5)

(3.) Voodoo: I like the mysterious sound of this song, it is like almost spellbinding, I can see this becoming a hit for her.
    (5/5)

(4.) Same Old Paradise: An R & B'sh, electronica ballad, It is not my favorite song on the album but it is nice to listen to.
    (3.5/5)

(5.) Sacraficial Lamb: This is a very Kelly Clarkson song, but it is so much better than any of her songs, and this can be a hit for Amber, the chorus is great! (6/5)

(6.) Private War: a beautiful personal song, like a better version of Pink's "Family Portrait.". (4.5/5)

(7.) When a Love Grows Cold: Pretty similiar to "Same Old Paradise," only better, it is kind of boring but it is 'nice' to listen to. (4/5)

(8.) Just Like That: This song is kind of bland, but I like the electric guitar element. (2.5/5)

(9.) City of Pain: this song is simply amazing and makes up for the previous two songs, it reminds me of T.a.tu.'s "Stars." and some of Bjork's songs. I like the lyrics here and Amber sounds impassioned here. (7/5)

(10.) Your kind of World: another ballad here, it is better than "SOP." and "WALGC.", but it is kind of generic. (4.5/5)

(11.) More time for a child: meh, this song is similiar to "Just like that." and it never caught me as a listener, but still it's Amber. (2/5)

(12.) Don't follow me home: this is alot like "City of Pain." with it's spacy sounds, it is not as good as it, but it is still a good song with some jazzy elements. (6/5)

Overall I would estimate it being a 4.5 out of 5 album!

5 out of 5 stars Amber is still moving on up!.......2005-05-22

I have been a huge fan of Amber since her first release. Each release keeps getting better and better. With this release, "My Kind of World," she has taken me further than I could ever imagine with songs such as "You Move Me", "Voodoo", and "Just Like That." Though this isn't the kind of dance cd fans are used to, Amber is not leaving her dance fans astray. The 1st single "You Move Me" had some very energetic club hoppers hopping all over the dance floor. Her 2nd single, "Voodoo," is set to be released in mid June. It is already causing a wild fire on dance stations and in clubs all over!!!! The album is very thought provoking, energetic, edgy, and the list goes on and on. "Sacrificial Lamb", one of the hard cuts, has the simple phrase "SET ME FREE!", which Im sure will be an anthem for those who are fed up with "past obsessed lovers" that cant seem to get a grip with reality that they arent wanted anymore..
"When a Love Grows Cold" happens to be my favorite on this cd... Just listen and you draw your own conclusion... I HIGHLY recommend this cd to anyone!!!
