Product Description
...This twenty-something-year-old brings the same awesome conviction, anointed power and 'from-ashes' testimony that Alvin has delivered for so many years.

Take a cue from the cover art. The World Is Not Enough is an edgy, in-yo-face, East coast hip-hop effort that benefits from a crew of gifted producers (Dre, Quest, Nut) who collaborate with Slaughter as he offers quick-paced, Queens-accented flows.

The obvious marquee name here is Garbage--and the group delivers. Shirley Manson sings the title track in a detached catatonia that's juxtaposed with sultry, swirling strings and keyboards, draping the song in plush atmospherics worthy of Agent 007. But for eccentric and obsessive music collectors, the real surprise may be the participation of cult artist Scott Walker, who has forsaken his most recent forays into avant classical-pop for the perfectly syrupy, old-fashioned, string-lined ballad "Only Myself to Blame," which recalls the by-the-fire genius of his early solo work. This end-of-the-millennium James Bond thriller, however, is not without heart-racing action music to set the movie's pace. David Arnold, producer and writer of the Garbage and Walker tracks, sets forth 17 instrumental pieces that capture the Bond vibe so perfectly you can transform any room into a space-age bachelor pad just by pressing Play. --Rob O'Connor

4 out of 5 stars Good but Missing Essential Music.......2006-11-28

David Arnold's THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH is good but I was disappointed that it was missing some essential music. The gun barrel opening music was outstanding as it went into immediately into the following scene in Bilbao, Spain. Also, the End Title that was essentially another innovative rendering of THE JAMES BOND THEME is missing. The Garbage Main Title song is adequate but seems to have aged with time. Also, Arnold let a lot of synthetic techno elements run throughout the soundtrack. This soundtrack does contain a good wealth of music but something seems to have gone amiss since Arnold's 2 outstanding TOMORROW NEVER DIES albums.

5 out of 5 stars Great ,although.......2003-12-14

I love this cd!David Arnold is great. It does need all of the music. Its missing the first part, with the gunbarrel. They need to make a new cd with all the music from the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Nobody Does It Better than Bond...James Bond.......2003-05-13

What is missing from most Bond Scores? THE BOND THEME! Try listening to the Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, all of them only contain a few tracks of the Bond Theme(Moonraker didn't play it at all!), I'm talking about the Cds here not the scores, but TWINE Cd is fill to to rim in Bond theme Music as in tracks 2, 3, 6, 10, 11, 12, 14, 17, 18, now I know alot of you new Bond fan don't consider the Four Note John Barry Theme played in the Background of the guitar theme in about every movie, but when its played by its self alot of you new fans fail to notice this great theme, listen to tracks 6, 10, 11, 17, 18 to hear it by its self. It is the Bond theme so stop making the same mistake! Sure it doesn't have gun barrel music but out of the 21(never say never again is a Bond movie) Bond Cds? Very few contain it. Arnold's score for TWINE isn't as good as TND but it still packs a punch. Check out Die Another Day you'll love it.

5 out of 5 stars Arnold's best yet!.......2003-03-26

This soundtrack is just very, very good. No other way to put it. The title song by Garbage is great, although you won't hear any part of it in the score (much like in Tomorrow Never Dies). I'm a big fan of "spy" music as well as music scores, and I must say this one has it all. Action, suspense, covert themed music- there's a great mix in this score.
Compared to Arnold's last, Tomorrow Never Dies, this one has less traditional Bond style but still fits in the groove. The end song, "Only Myself to Blame", by Scott Walker, is used as the backdrop for the Casino music and "Elektra's Theme". There is less Bond Theme backdrop this time. In fact, there is no Bond Theme reference after "Caviar Factory".
But all in all, definately worth the extra buck. Contains all music from the movie. A great, great compilation!!!

4 out of 5 stars Arnold, David Arnold........2003-03-11

After his successful score to Tomorrow Never Dies, David Arnold returns scoring the next exciting Bond film, The World Is Not Enough. First, let's start with the title song, this time performed by the rock group, Garbage. It is a surprisingly good song, which definitely beats Sheryl Crow's song for Tomorrow Never Dies. The final song, "Only Myself to Blame", is in one word, dumb. Skip it by all means. The legendary Bond theme can be found in only 3 tracks, leaving Arnold to come up with original music. "Show Me the Money" and "Come in 007, Your Time Is Up" are 2 exciting action cues that open the score, with plenty of rhythmic beats, along with blaring brasses, especially the high trumpet played over a heavy amount of electronic percussion. The Bond theme really kicks into high gear here, with exciting and thrilling music. Most of the music is of the action variety as in "Ice Bandits", "Going Down - The Bunker", "Pipeline", "Caviar Factory", and "Submarine". Arnold unleashes a sultry side in tracks such as "Casino", "Elektra's Theme", "Torture Queen", and "Christmas In Turkey". Parts of the title song occur in "Access Denied", "Welcome to Baku", and a few others. I honestly think that James Bond has a new composer: that's Arnold, David Arnold.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-04-22

I must confess I am unfamiliar with Copland's "The Tender Land" except for this reissue, which I find to be absolutely magnificent. I realize this is a truncated performance, eliminating what I assume to be a fair amount of spoken dialogue. But I don't care. What is presented here is simply one of the finest American compositions - forget American - one of the finest compositions of the 20th century. Period.

5 out of 5 stars Pure joy.......2005-07-29

The recording of Copland's The Tender Land is alone worth getting this disc. The rest of the vocal works are just a bonus, a very good bonus! Copland directs a definitive account of his opera, and in this compressed version leaves out all the spoken parts of the full length opera, no doubt depriving us of a lot of good music but on the other hand giving listeners a very concise version that is even stronger musically (although dramatically a little lacking in logic because of the missing parts - for example without knowing of the confrontation during the party scene you would find the boys' departure the next morning puzzling, and the CD notes does not elaborate on the plot, which is about the only negative thing you can say about this set). Listening to the opera in this abridged version gives you the feeling of one hit after another, there is not a single weak point in the score and Copland has a gift for word-setting that can turn clumsy texts such as "girls come and go, some are good, some are not so good" into goosebumps stuff (a lovely dedication to Laurie sung by Grandpa). Other high points include the stunning transformation of the traditional Walls of Zion into the quartet piece The Promise Of Living and a rollicking Party Scene, which contains the best in Copland's clever orchestration and rythmic vitality - it seems all of the composers best traits have all come together in this work. Martin's Act 2 Song 'Laurie...You Know, Laurie' is a rare gem or an aria and beautifully sung. Other hidden gems include the comical 'We've Been North'. The cast is impeccable and the entire performance is flawless. Add to that one of those scores that simply win you over from start to finish, and you can't but fall in love with this music. I once thought that nothing could better Appalachian Spring but that was before I discovered this neglected work.

5 out of 5 stars Copland's vocal work.......2002-08-08

And so on this third set of the celebration of Aaron Copland's music, all attention is on his vocal work including the opera, "The Tender Land".

I can't completely explain why I give this five stars after giving the first two sets four stars each. This is just the way the opera, in particular, strikes me. I'm no great opera fan, and to my knowledge, America just has not yet proved itself in the operatic field although it's tried. It will take time, but I do see Copland's work as someday being considered the best example of American opera. This is all subjective opinion, obviously, and I'm sure there are those more knowledgeable who will disagree. So be it.

All in all, these three sets will give you a complete overview of one of America's most important composers.

5 out of 5 stars Stays true to the pattern of James Bond themes.......2005-10-01

Ever since the first Sean Connery/Bond film debuted in 1962, the music, particularly the theme, has been an integral part of the Bond mystique. A pattern has occured that holds true for most of the themes that accompany the opening credits: every OTHER theme tends to be stronger than the one that preceded it. The same holds true for Garbage's effort for the film of the same name, a superior tune to both its forerunner ("Tomorrow Never Dies" and its successor ("Die Another Day").

The composition, though composed by David Arnold, features a structure that is similar to those done by favorite Bond composer John Barry: ear-catching opening, simple but seductive lyrics, and a great delivery from the solo vocalist (Shirley Manson).

The tune ranks up there with "Goldfinger," "You Only Live Twice," "Diamonds Are Forever," "Nobody Does It Better," "For Your Eyes Only," "Licence to Kill," and "Goldeneye" as the best of the Bond themes.

5 out of 5 stars Shirley rules Bond.......2004-08-09

Garbage is 2 for 2 when it comes to recording movie themes. Following up their hugely successful "#1 Crush" from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack is this largely overlooked single. Similar to "#1 Crush", the lyrics are not overly deep but Shirley Manson's powerful vocals command the listener's attention while telling the song's tragic story. "The World Is Not Enough" definitely deserves more attention than radio and media have given it so far.

5 out of 5 stars THE WOMAN CREATES SENSUALITY!!!!.......2002-05-03

THE MAIN TRAC IS HAUNTING, AS WELL AS SULTRY.....THE VIDEO IS "OUT OF THIS WORLD"...LOADED WITH SPECIAL EFFECTS...AND CAPTIVATING, SCIENCE FICTION...BEAUTY.....I PERFORM IT ON STAGE AND THE AUDIANCE GOES APE....

5 out of 5 stars Garbage James Bond.......2000-10-03

"The World Is Not Enough" is a great single and is noteworthy for Garbage and Bond fans alike. It's great to hear the UNKLE Remix version of this song, which gives it a whole new slant. The Original Version is on here a well.

The David Arnold's "Ice Bandits" an instrumental track based on the same tune was unnecessary and inappropriate. It is the same as the cut on the soundtrack.

The cover artwork based on the teaser poster for "The World Is Not Enough" is very good. Every BOND FAN should add this to their collection.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Bond Themes Ever.......2000-10-01

You have to give it to Shirley Manson and Garbage. After being selected by producer Barbara Broccoli to perform the theme song for the newest Bond film, Garbage went straight to work to produce what has to be one of the best Bond theme songs in recent years. With Manson's powerful vocals, and a beautiful, haunting score, Garbage does an excellent job in creating a theme song to be remembered. Other theme songs such as "A View to a Kill" by Duran Duran, and "The Living Daylights" by A-ha are great, and "The World is not Enough" will join the ranks as one of the best in the series.

The U.N.K.L.E. remix is an average remix. It starts out great, but the ending really gets out of touch with the song's original version. The other track on this imported maxi-single is a fierce track from the film's score, which gives the listener a feeling that a chase is taking place.

Garbage rules, and this single is great! Purchase it today.

The exploits of Ian Fleming's British super-agent James Bond have long since become the longest running film series in history, spanning 40 years and counting. Not the least of the cycle's charm has been its music, a body of work that encompasses pop clichés (the twangy guitar of Monty Norman's original "James Bond Theme") and elegant underscores alike. While this collection spans music from Dr. No to The World Is Not Enough, decades of various legal entanglements prevented it from becoming the ultimate Bond music anthology. This is more a credible simulation, a newly recorded collection of cues and suites (including music previously unreleased on the original soundtracks) performed by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Symphony Orchestra. With John Barry's lush, ever-evocative scores both forming the core and setting the tone (but also featuring the work of George Martin, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Bill Conti, and Eric Serra), it's the most comprehensive--if not exactly authentic--collection of Bond music yet attempted. --Jerry McCulley

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars almost the perfect James Bond collection.......2005-07-20

this 4 CD box has most of the familiar James Bond compositions.

Still, some tunes are missing(from for instance Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only)and most of the time the attention is on the instrumental version of the title track which is a bit of a shame. And yet, there are too many great pieces on this collection to make it a failure.Alpine Drive,Dawn Raid at Fort Knox,On Her Majesty's Secret Service(every track),Miss Goodhead and so on.All great pieces that not only show the great talent of John Barry but also the great power of James Bond films.Cause when you hear the music, you see the scenes in front of you.

Very much a recommendation to all Bond and Barry fans although sometimes it focusses too much on title songs. The only solution is to buy all separate soundtracks.

    5 out of 5 stars Good Collection.......2005-02-24

Very nice packaging and good tracks from the Bond music library make this an anoutstanding item. "From Russia With Love" and "Diamonds Are Forever" contain beautiful and energetic renditions. The John Barry music is handled quite well. I didn't real care for the David Arnold selections. "The World Is Not Enough" was weak. Overall it is a good collection just the same.

I when I read some of the reviews of this I thought that this was a complete collection of all the originals of the Theme songs of every James Bond movie and remakes done by the Prague Philharmonic of some of the other songs in the various movies. After recieveing this ... I started to listen to it and found out that it was all done by the orchestra. The are very good, but to a point it is not the same thing as owning a disc will all the orignal songs on it. Overall, this good if all the you want is the orchestral versions of most of the songs in the movies or the suites out of some of the movies. To a point these don't compare to the orignals. Keep looking if you want a set with all the orignals songs in it.

4 out of 5 stars The James Bond CD for the John Barry purist?.......2003-01-28

Let's cut to the chase. Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do John Barry's work justice. 90% of this collection is as close as you can get to the original James Bond soundtracks. The other 10% lends itself to some artistic license with respect to the arrangements. Most notable is the main theme to Goldfinger. Also Nic slips in a few previously unreleased tracks. You will find these on the On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Golden Eye tracks. This CD boxed set is definitely made for the Bond soundtrack fan. The die hard John Barry "purist"/ traditionalist may find some of these tracks questionable at first, but after a few times Nic Raine's artistic license gives a fresh perspective to the familiar Bond/ Barry themes. The only reservation I have with this CD set is with some of selections that are performed. For instance, from Goldfinger, "Dawn Raid At Fort Knox" was a poor selection considering the selection available on that particular soundtrack. The most famous 007 soundtrack of all I dare say. Overall Nic hits the mark, and this CD set is a tribute to Barry's (as well as, George Martin's, Marvin Hamlish's, and Bill Conti's and David Arnold's) work. It's all here in one collection. I am a die-hard Bond soundtrack fan, and to the casual soundtrack fan I say this CD is set all you need to experience the Bond music legacy. To those who are hard core 007 soundtrack fans ...this is a FANTASTIC "addition" to your collection. This has to be the BEST (and probably the only) 007 "soundtrack" compilation. Whereas all the others feature the "main themes" from the Bond films as originally recorded, this one truly gives you the Bond experience.

3 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable with most of the BOND music you'd want........2002-12-08

This is similar but more comprehensive than another BOND collection on one CD by the City of Prague Philharmonic. These are good renditions but clearly not the orginals. I must ask if the Prague Philharmonic does not own a harp? It is glaringly missing in the Goldfinger themes and i am sure on others. That harp is an exciting and beautiful touch to the wonderful GOLDFINGER theme and its absents is unfortuneatly very noticeable. Also some of the other themes can even sound muzaky if thats a word(elevator music)
It gets 3 solid stars good collection yet defineatly something is lacking.

Terrible, absolutely terrible. There are all kinds of samplers of the wonderful original James Bond soundtracks. I don't see any reason why anybody should go with this chintzy reenactments. It truely i s Las Vegas sound: glossy, smoothed, soaked with saxophone and drippy strings instead of all the legendary singers.

Bond always loved casinos - but he didn't deserve that!

5 out of 5 stars The best in Bond........2004-06-13

This CD is awesome. Most of the titles from the past and present including Die Another Day! They are very well made, and very close to the songs. Completely worth getting for any James Bond Fan.

If you like James Bond 007 music themes from the motion pictures you should find this to be a very satisfying album. "The James Bond Theme" and "Thunderball" sound first-rate. I found the cover art very interesting, as are the musical arrangements.

2 out of 5 stars Prepare to be let down.......2000-08-24

This CD sounded very appealing to me when I first saw it. Any 007 fan would love a compilation of the greatest Bond hits. However, there is one all-important factor missing from this CD: The original artists! Dont expect to hear Cheryl Crow belting out "Tommorrow Never Dies," because it's not her. Hoping to hear Tina Turner sing "Goldeneye"? Look elsewhere. In all fairness, some of the renditions are better than others; "The World Is Not Enough" comes across fairly well, as does "Goldeneye"; However, "Live and Let Die" follows its own advice and "The Living Daylights" is just plain sad. (Who would have thought A-Ha would be such a hard band to cover?) Can somebody tell me why the chorus for "The Living Daylights" is in the background and panned to the right? If you're looking for a cheap version of 007's greatest hits, you've found a winner. If you're looking for the quality originals that made Bond great, keep searching.

I own this soundtrack already and I thought it would be pretty good. At first, I thought it was okay until I played it again and again. It finally grabbed me and made me tune in more. It was better than I thought it would be. :)

I have not even listened to much of this CD (one of my best friends owns it-and I think she ordered it on Amazon.com), but I know it's a must-have for any true fan of James Bond 007. I just love Bond songs, and Garbage's new song "The World Is Not Enough" is a WOW! I recommend you buy CD. And buy at Amazon.com, OK.

...This twenty-something-year-old brings the same awesome conviction, anointed power and 'from-ashes' testimony that Alvin has delivered for so many years.

5 out of 5 stars I'm so glad i was able to find this cd!!!!.......2005-11-20

I am seriously blessed to have been able to get my hands on a copy of this cd, Which is unfortunately out of print. This cd is easily one of the greatest christian rap cds i've heard in my life so far. Sean Slaughter is definitely an awesome rapper and he's got that type of sound that can appeal to anyone. I have already heard 3 songs from this album [They're all available to download free of charge on this website] on this album. And i liked all 3 of those songs. But the rest of the album, Is nothing but more of straight fire! The best songs on this album are ''Fight to death'' [The best song on the album], ''Rock solid'' ''Wwjd [What would jesus do?]'', ''Street corner catz'', ''Rhyme and reason'', ''P.t.l.'', and ''Life and breath''. This is a solid christian rap effort from a highly underrated rapper. If you're ever able to find this cd, I guarantee that you will love this album. And i guarantee this album will shut up those who say that christian rap is no good. Hope my review helped. Be blessed.

I really enjoyed this c.d. I don't normally listen to gospel rap but I loved this one. Everything about it is on point. The tracks have hot beats, the lyrics are anointed and most importantly his message is one that is from the heart. He is reaching the masses because it is for those who can relate to street music but it won't draw you into thinking about your old days in the club. Beats you can nod your head to, plus feel the anointing in the message what more can you ask for? I definetly suggest paying close attention to the words! He is coming with realness! Now if only I could find one to buy on here since mine got cracked. Anyone that can help me please do.
