Recorded in a single day at Paisley Park, Prince has confounded audiences yet again by recording a progressive jazz album with only four cuts--each named for a point on a compass--and clocking in at 14:00 minutes. If that wasn't enough, there isn't a single lyric on the almost hour-long disc. Like many before him, the musical savant has decided to let the music do the talking. But in Prince's case it does so, brilliantly. He has fashioned a musical lattice of fascinating conversations that are both compelling and eccentric--veering from the anxious and menacing to the soothing and deeply rhythmic--at times conjuring the specters of Sun Ra, at others, strangely Metallica. Begun as a mere jam session among the latest members of NPG, Prince has made his most collaborative record ever as he mostly plays guitar and leads his deft-handed band from the One Nite Alone tour into uncharted territory. They make seamless swings from "North's" ambient cohesiveness--led masterfully by Rhonda Smith's liquid bass--to the almost head-banging lumbering beast of "East," into the smooth elegant jazz of "West," which freefalls from a sinuous rhythmic R&B groove into a majestic and almost funereal slice of brainy pomp rock, before scaling the slippery slope of space rock on "South." It would be tempting to say that this is Prince's homage to his recently-deceased parents' stint in the Prince Rogers Trio, but it is far too forward sounding to only be a tribute. This is a brave step and it sounds remarkably like the future. --Jaan Uhelszki

4 out of 5 stars Good Prince Instramentals.......2007-05-31

This was definitely worth the money. At first I was a little skeptical but as I listened to it over and over again I found a deeper appreciation. I think that I was expecting something else at first. This was similar to One Night Alone but just instrumental.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the rest!.......2006-08-31

As a long time Prince fan, this doesn't disappoint me at all, especially after his Madhouse CDs in the 80s! Prince continues to shine on here with four instrumentals of pure jazz!

4 out of 5 stars Smooth Experimentation.......2006-05-07

The problem with critics in general, is that they tend to always try to compare and completely define what they are critiquing. Take a different approach and start by accepting and feeling what is there. Prince is roguishly experimenting on this album; having a great time and sharing some musical statements with those that would listen. Laid back, smooth, soulful, jazzy, fun and moderately engaging. Shed any concept of genre and simply enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Directions in Music.......2006-04-02

This is a 60 minute terrific cd. I listen to Prince's music for a long time but I have been impressed for this smooth, jazzy, funky joint. Especially recomended to listen to at night with a fine bottle of wine and a cigar.

3 out of 5 stars POWER FANTASTIC.......2006-03-31

N.E.W.S is an incredible showcase of instrumental jam-fest. John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith, Renato Neto and Eric Leeds join Prince in this 56 minute opus! Prince's N.E.W.S is a 4 track instrumental jazz style album with no lyrics. Perfect album when you have a hard day at work and want to relax. Eric Leeds delivers amazing saxophone depth! Rhonda Smith lays down some infectious bass grooves. John Blackwell is on point with solid drum beats. Renato Neto's beautiful piano will take you to cloud 9. Prince makes his guitar gently weep! N.E.W.S. is a power fantastic journey. Allstar musicians come together to create beautiful instrumental music. Quality album...I just wish there were more tracks. Prince's N.E.W.S will take you away!

William "Bootsy" Collins was already a veteran of James Brown's band when he hooked up with George Clinton's Parliafunkadelicment thang in the early '70s. His outsize personality and preternatural good nature made him an obvious choice when Clinton came up with the idea of reaching for the preteen audience ("geepies") with a comic-book-style character; thus was born Bootsy's Rubber Band. Thumping tracks and Collins's stoned-sounding mumblings made the whole thing irresistible. Back in the Day collects many of the high points among the man's statements of purpose ("The Pinocchio Theory") and seduction moves ("Hollywood Squares"). --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars ALL THE SONGS ROCK!.......2007-02-22

Great music, awesome !!! Good back in the day funk..... that sounds still tight today.

5 out of 5 stars FUNKALICIOUS!!!!.......2005-12-04

I usually don't recommend compliations, but no record collection should be complete without this.
Why?
The last track just may be the most exciting live performance recorded.

4 out of 5 stars Something interesting to note..........2005-08-20

I think it's interesting that he does duets with Snoop(Dogg): "No Thang On Me", "Can I Get A Flicc Witchu" AND also with TobyMac(from DC Talk): "Diverse City."

It's interesting because while Snoop is rap and TobyMac is Rock/Rap, they are on the opposite sides of the hip/hop spectrum, lyrically, that is.

5 out of 5 stars Ahhhhh, the name is Bootsy, Baby! .......2005-01-08

When first heard this, I took it back to the shop and asked for my money back, I'm serious! I was into Sly Stone, James Brown, and Funkadelic. My tastes at that time were pretty limited. After a year or so, I was sittin' round at a friends, amidst a plume of yellow smoke, talkin' gibberish, and somebody put this same cd on. Man... We cried laughing! Only then did I start to realize just HOW FAR OUT THERE this cat really is! Casper and all the Hollywood swinging, Pscycoticbumschoolin' grooves jus took me 'out the front door, and in tha back'!
Man!

The space bass is heard to full effect on here. I like the slow jams, like 'Mugpush,' 'Can't stay away,' and 'Vanish in Our Sleep.' His tunes have a hypnotic, nursury rhyme thing goin' on that nobody else could ever conceive, or get away with!

If you wanna get silly serious, get Bootsy!

5 out of 5 stars Corny But Jammin!!!!.......2004-02-14

Aah It's Bootsy Baby I love this cd and I love this artist Bootsy Collins no one can dress or sound like Bootsy but him he is the only one that can do it Bootsy can jam and be corny at the same time I love Tthis cd they are some jammin songs !!!! And I would recommend anyone who likes classic funk to buy this cd anyone who digs Parliament to buy this cd !!!
My favorites are: Hollywood Squares, The Pinnochio Theory, Bootzilla, Stretching Out in A Rubber Band, I'd Rather Be With You, and many great others you definitely will enjoy!!!!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent crossover of styles and talent.......2006-03-01

Entertaining and enjoyable listening. Nice remakes of classic Reggae songs using some crossover artists.

5 out of 5 stars A straight shot of feel good music.......2006-01-13

I didn't know Toots at all, but read a magazine review and gave it a chance. Boy have I been missing some great music. I listen on my commute home and arrive feeling happy and "cool" by association. If you love blues, Buffett, or Bonnie, this sound will hit you where you live. Not just for Reggae fans. Stop reading this and buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet and Dandy! .......2005-10-01

Unlike one reviewer who sounded like he never did love Toots, this is one of my favorite albums by Toots and the Maytals and I have been listening to them for *many* years. Toots has never sounded better and he made all of the other artists who played along with him on the CD put in some of their finest performances, as well. There is hardly a track on here I don't love, but Still is Still Moving to Me, Pressure Drop, and Sweet and Dandy are some of my favorites... and Blame on Me with Rachel Yamagata (who I honestly had never heard of before) just burns me up. I love it. This is a work of art, unlike some of other compilations which I personally thought were either okay, like BB King's, or sounded like they were just inviting younger musicians to play on their albums to reach new audiences and sell more music, like Santana's. Carlos said he was trying to prove how older people could still get it down, then only invited young women to participate and shake it up. Not Toots, man, he knows what's cool and everyone was invited - young or old, you will love it!!!!

5 out of 5 stars My kind of music!.......2005-05-30

I have to admit that prior to purchasing this album I really had no knowledge of Toots' long history of making music. I always loved the sound of reggae - my dad listened to Hawaiian reggae while I was growing up - and I was ready for something fresh and new.

What I enjoy most about "True Love" is that Toots' vocals are never drowned out by his guest artists. He has a strong, almost bluesy sort of voice, and he really sounds like he enjoyed making these songs. It really amazes me that he was able to work with so many artists from such varied genres. "Pressure Drop" and "Monkey Man" easily satisfy my need for upbeat, fun, summer/spring sorts of songs while "Careless Ethiopians" and "Blame on Me" paint a landscape drenched in a darker, haunting tone. If I were to name a song that I do not care for too much, however, it would be his collaboration with Shaggy, I think mostly because Shaggy's vocals aren't too great on here.

5 out of 5 stars TOOTS GETS MY GRAMMY!.......2005-02-07

Toots is finally getting the recognition he deserves. One of the best reggae performers I've ever seen and this album is definitely one of the best. Love the cuts with Bonnie Rait and Willie Nelson and Marcia Griffiths. Toot Toot Toosie.....HELLO!

5 out of 5 stars Kinda sad really.......2007-05-10

We just can't get it like this anymore, this was one of my most favorite albums from the 70's, saw this tour as well.
this is IMO some Bootsy's finest work!

5 out of 5 stars "Gee Money A Rubber Fan".......2006-01-25

The Year was 1976. I was basically into soul music, 19 years old and in the Navy. that's when a heard a friendly BOOOO! This album blue me away because it was vastly different from anything that I had ever herard. I am a trombonist and Fred Wesley was my idol a member of Booty's " Horny Horns" section. The only thing about this music was somewhat familiar to me was some of that James Brown flavor in the horn licks. But man that Space bass and razor sharp synthesizer had me listening over and over again to try and figure out just what they were doing. My favorite track is "Love Vibes. This album helped to usher in that electric funk sound that was never mastered by anyone except Booty and of course Dr. Funkenstien himself. If you are a true lover of the funk grab this one...YAA We're Funkin ON Babba.

5 out of 5 stars Funk at it's Best.......2005-11-29

This is the funkiest album I've ever heard. THe title cut is so funky that a skunk will stop to salute it. I was 19 years old when I got the album and I was just blown away. This album was contemporary with Parliament's "Mothership Connection", "Brass Construction 1" & The Brother's Johnson "Looking out for #1). THis was my favorite. Bootsy had won me over big time. Click on the samples and get a whiff of some real funk. I highly reccomend this album is your really into funk.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic.......2003-04-05

This is truly an all-time classic! Every single track is a soulful funky masterpiece. "I'd Rather Be With You" (catchy), "Love Vibes" (both soothing and thrilling) and "Vanish In Our Sleep" (haunting) are some of the most beautiful songs of the whole P-Funk canon, while "Psychoticbumpschool" will definitely get you movin'. PLAY LOUD!

5 out of 5 stars They call me Casper..........2003-03-16

Let me take you back just a little bit...to a time of 6-inch afros, platform shoes, strawberry and coconut scented afro hairspray, dashikis, Mad Dog 20/20, Wild Irish Rose and Yago Sangria wine. (I never thought some of these things would make a comeback in the late `90s and 21st century...but...oh well.) It's the mid `70s, the funk decade, and I'm a freshman at Salem State College in Salem, MA. My roommate burst into the room late one Saturday night, and he was ecstatic as he described a song ("Stretchin' Out...") he had just heard played at the campus radio station. We were, and still are, loyal funkateers, as he explained that Funkadelic/Parliament's bass player, Bootsy Collins, had gone solo. Other than seeing his name on P-Funk album credits, I had no idea who Bootsy was or what he looked like, but I knew if he was associated with the funk mob he had to be badder than a 3-year-old in church early Sunday morning. When I finally purchased and had the opportunity to listen to the entire album, I was blown away. With the volume knob turned to 10, I must've pumped those grooves into my cerebral cortex at least three dozen times that day before I finally gave the album a much needed rest.

From start to finish, this album quenches your thirst for the sweet nectar of old-school funk. The opening track "Stretchin Out..." is so nasty and funky you'll swear you can smell and see the vapors comin' off the disc/album, and you're personally introduced to the sub-sonic twangs and bangs of Bootsy's intergalactic, custom-made "Space Bass"; you'll never be the same again. Just as you're ready to give your booty a rest, "Psychoticbumpschool" snatches you by bootyus maximus and forces you, although pleasantly, to shake what your mamma gave ya. "Another Point of View", the sleeper jam on the album, is just as funky but with a smoother groove guided by either a cowbell or woodblock tempo, with an ethereal synthesizer outro. "I'd Rather Be With You" is one of those songs you listen to when you're on the phone late at night, candles glowing, incense burning, trying to convince that special someone to drop by for a late night snack...if you know what I mean. The aptly named "Vanish in Our Sleep", the final track, will tuck you in for the evening after your ear holes have been thoroughly satisfied. Bottom line: If you are accumulating research material for your PhD in funkology, this CD is an absolutely essential.

Bassist for James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, Bootsy's solo career has been a George Clinton produced extension of the P-Funk philosophy, with Collins portraying the role of "Starchild, Player of the Year." Collins' vocals, are off-handedly cool in the manner of Jimi Hendrix, whose flamboyance Collins unmistakably aspires to. However, the music is definitely in the Parliament vein, with practically everyone from the band's late-'70s peak aboard, including Mike Hampton, Jerome Brailey and the horny horns. Conceptually, sci-fi reins, and the watery sound of Collins' aqua-bass doesn't get in the way of a mostly up-tempo album. This might be his best solo work. --D. Strauss

5 out of 5 stars Bootsy's best work!.......2007-07-30

This is one straight up funky classic album by Bootsy Collins. Every song on here was slammin'. This is definitely his best work in my opinion and he's a couple of nice funky recordings. I remember getting this lp with my alliance back in 77.

5 out of 5 stars Yo' Bootsy, let me borrow ya spaceship, I'll bring it right back!.......2007-02-12

This man along with the Funk Master George Clinton single handedly changed the way I looked at music in my younger years.

They created a concept and an imaginary world where funky music was fun.

George Clinton and Bootsy Collins R the undeniable tag team of funk in its most purest form.

This CD is Bootsy's coolest one to date.
From the CD cover to the songs on the project,...U can just feel the era of funk that rocked us all back then.
I'm definitely a Rubber Fan for life.

WOW! Now this is what the Funk is about! The best Bootsy Rubberband album. Side A is so Funk stank, you need a respirator to listen to it! Side B is the funky ballad side. Munchies is Bootsy's greatest song which has his best bass work from that era.

Be honest: how much fun do you really expect to wring out of the holidays this year? With endless presents to buy and decorations to put up, there can be precious little time to get down. That's where Christmas Is 4 Ever comes in handy. If you can find room in your busy schedule to gather a few close friends for mingling and merrymaking, this disc is probably the most cost-effective alternative to a DJ around. Nearly everyone who's anyone has covered a Christmas song or two in their career, but Bootsy Collins is one of the few to truly make the arrangements his own (even going so far as to rename holiday standards in a funky style). Here, he combines his outrageous style with a touch of hip-hop, plenty of shout-outs, and well-wishing phone messages featuring friends from Buckethead to (the late) Roger Troutman (of Zapp fame) to George Clinton himself. In fact, Collins, who may best be known to some for his work with Clinton and James Brown, isn't shy about inviting friends to the party, including Snoop Dogg on "Happy Holidaze," Charlie Daniels on "Sleigh Ride," and Candis Cheatham turning in lead vocals on "Santa's Coming" (a.k.a. "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), the track that arguably does the best job intertwining danceability--and a little humor--with traditional Christmas cheer. Longtime fans will be pleased by contributions from Funkadelic alums, including Blackbyrd McKnight, Bernie Worrell, and Bootsy's brother, Catfish. Novices, meanwhile, may find this album a gateway to non-seasonal '70s classics. If you're looking to eradicate all things overly ponderous from the holidays, Bootsy is the cure; after all, you can't spell "funky" without "fun." --Leah Weathersby

5 out of 5 stars How Bootsy Got His Groove On.......2007-04-02

This was Bootsy's third successful effort on LP. It came at the height of his popularity when people were trying to capitalize on his sound (ie. Rick James, George Duke,...). Nearly every song is word perfect in terms of his style and execution. This CD is a must for any student of true funk music.

4 out of 5 stars Good stuff.......2004-03-28

Used to listen to bootsy in high school (way back when). It was great then and still holds up well today. Some of the instruments sound a bit dated, but overall he still has that feeling.

I think it is hilarious that Amazon recommends actual "rubber bands" as something I might like to buy after I view bootsy's cd's page. Shows that these "intelligent" computers still have some way to go...hehe

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2004-01-18

I just bought this CD last night, and I love it. "BOOTSY WHAT'S THE NAME OFTHIS TOWN" and "BOOTZILLA" are my two favorite songs from this CD. "HOLLYWOOD SQUARES" almost made it, but all the songs are really good. Bootsy's liquid space bass is very good in this CD.

5 out of 5 stars bootzilla here, very yes.......2001-10-25

another chapter in the p-funk book, bootsy was funky all the way through, he gave up the funk, the space bass was incredible the first cut what's the name has bootsy going off, fred, and maceo came through as well, may the force be with you is the bomb, scary vocals, wicked vibe man i love the come into my world, george lucas must have been peeping this back in the day, very yes is a good ballad, this was bootsy at his best but props goes to mudbone for once again stealing the spotlight, bootzilla to me sounds similar to funkentelechy, the lyrics are dope bootsy goes beserk surprise the doll never came out, hollywood squares is the bomb, bootsy goes off on face plus this cut features the famous line l.a. califor nia hook that was sampled to death.roto rootwer was okay not my favorite but still enjoyable, the last cut as in i love you is the best rubber band ballad ever, mudbone, and peanut are superb, but bootsy went off when he yells ow girl, the bomb, bootsy fans should always bump this when necassary, no funkateer is truly funked up without this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Good old school funk!.......2001-02-27

5 out of 5 stars Bootzilla Baby.......2006-01-20

The album is Funky, Jazzy, Soul, Gospel all rolled in one. The other artist give it a groove that is sweet, tender and is a light to those who has the breath of life and is a living soul. I think that this is one of Bootsy's great down to eart sounds. It brought me from the edge of depression jamming and enjoying bootsy at his best. The mix master did a great job with the volume of each voice on the album. It takes the Bootsy Fans to many deminsions. I purchased the album because, "I'm Funky and I Know it." Don't Let Them Put You Down, took me on a trip when people around me only talk negetive and step on my spirit. Love Gangster reminded me of what I wished everyone in the world would do. Just by having Macy Grey sing on the album put it in another universe. "I Get So Emotional." "If I Get This Kind of Love Whats an Album Bill?" Soul Sister is like the Black Hole of the Big Band, like Eve the Mother of Us All. This is like the writing of the Constitution. Its for all the People. "If You are Funky and You Know It, You Will Enjoy This Album, an Adventure in Wonder Land. Power to the Funkateers. If someone listens to this album and cannot groove on it, they are not a true Bootsy Fan and a George Clinton fan. One more thing, "This albums has some low down dirty funk, pure funk, uncut funk. Funk it up now cause, "Can't No Body Do Me Like Jesus, Can't No Body Do Me Like Jesus." I Probly can say more, but I think you can understand and jam on this UNCUTFUNK. "PEACE BE STILL BROTHERS AND SISTERS." These worlds is from joyfull noise, loving the Bootsy Sound. GOD BLESS EVERYONE. ANTHONY J.

1 out of 5 stars Not the Bootsy I know.......2005-12-30

I am a long time Bootsy fan, love all of his previous works, even the projects he's done without George, but this one takes the cake i mean this is hourable, whatever happen to the nice chous Bootsy use to have, and who are all these people on this CD, I know Snoop, but none of these guys can bring the FUNK like George Clinton, man bootsy this is your worst work ever, and I thought I'd never have to say that. Stick to your original sound forget trying to blend in with the new because most of this stuff out here is pure garbage anyway, and that's probably why your CD came out that way. Stick to what you do best, and ask George to help on your next project, see that;s what made yall different from the rest yall got that original flava that last a life time, these new groups, their just fly by night one hit fonders, nobodies gona look for their music in the next 10 years, don't bring anymore garbage out like that again Bootsy, you need to come correct mor don't come at all.

2 out of 5 stars Schwag Funk.......2005-11-26

this is one of the worst funk albums of all time, i own all of bootsy's cd's and this is one is probably the worst. Corny rapping, weak bass lines, pretty much all the tracks have drum machines. Bootsy's Blasters of the universe is infinitley better than this schwag-ass bunk funk. The music smells worse than a fifty cents concert

4 out of 5 stars OLD SKOOL MEETS NU SCHOOL - Lady Kier, Kelli Ali, Prince?!.......2005-01-04

I found this in the bargain bins and was mighty surprised - rather than toss off a dated 80s retro flashback, Bootsy has delivered the perfect blend of old-skool vs. nu-school funk to bring him up to date - with the help of tasty vocal contributions from LADY KIER (DEEE-LITE!), ROSIE GAINES (ex-PRINCE "Diamonds and Pearls" amazing singer!), FATBOY SLIM, KELLI ALI (ex-SNEAKER PIMPS), this is really a surprisingly consistent jam of the year! The biggest mystery is the singer "ONE" who sounds awfully a lot like PRINCE (?!) - is it PRINCE or one of his psuedonyms or what?! Whatever the verdict, many of these tracks sounds like "LET'S WORK/WANNA BE YOUR LOVER" stripped-down early PURPLE ONE FUNK! Get it now - this was first released on Warners on import, now licensed to THUMP, who def have good ears! Support funk, BUY BOOTSY!!

4 out of 5 stars Takes A Lickin' And Keeps On Tickin'.......2006-10-11

I never thought this album got the props it deserved. One of Bootsy's funkiest !!! From "Shyne O Myte" to "The Funky Functioneer" every track is P-Funk, Un-Cut Funk....DA BOMB !!! Bootsy was way ahead of his time. The things this cat can do with a bass. I remember buying this album back in 1982 when it was released and off and on I've been playing it ever since. Eventhough I bought the cd, ain't nothing like watching that vinyl go round and round and listening to Casper's voice exploed thru those Cerwin Vegas in the crib. "Excon of Love" is the joint ! All of Booty's slow jams were. Just didn't get the credit they deserved. If you have this one...you are of the funk - if you don't have it....GET IT...and become one with the funk.

5 out of 5 stars daaamn that's funky shhhh..........2003-05-17

got this on wax for a little last month.
this one rock's man! i wanted to use a track i heard and liked just after buying for a mix. so i got the record and skipped to find the "right" track(this is what i as a dj do quite a lot).
i just couldn't find it, they where all so ... good. i ended up listening to the complete thing a couple of times 5 out of 5 stars Bootsy's overall BADDEST album!!!.......2002-06-10

It's too hard to decide which Bootsy album is his best overall, but jam for jam, this one is Bootsy's BADDEST!! If this album was a movie, it would be a sci-fi/action-adventure/comedy blockbuster!! It blows you away, makes you laugh out loud, mellows out just long enough to let you catch your breath, and leaves you with a big smile on your face! It's no accident that a whopping 5 songs from this supposedly forgotten album are featured on Bootsy's anthology CD, "Glory B, Da Funk's On Me," and at least 3 other songs could have easily made the cut. Trust the fans on this one: true funkateers either have this album, or they will go to great lengths to get it!!!

5 out of 5 stars unknown forces took it away.......2001-03-29

the last great bootsy record from the 80's before casper dissapeared for 6 years, underrated, and forgotten, i forgot about this for a moment to until i heard low profile sample shyne-o-mite in 1989, i was like damn that's bootsy. and my favorite all time track ex con of love had bootsy survived longer in the 80's he would have gave prince and rick james a run for their money. the last great p-funk record until gansts rap saved the funk.

5 out of 5 stars The Doctor of Funk proclaims this album the #1 Funkateer.......2000-09-20

Back in the day, when I was a college DJ, I was known as the Doctor of Funk. Part of the reason was this album right here. This album (beginning to end) is by far the best Bootsy release ever! Picking a favorite song from this album is like trying to choose one entree from a buffet. One day it's one song, the next day is another song. I have the 45 from Take A Lickin'.... and I purchased two cassettes and an LP. I wore all of them out years ago. And with so many great P-funk albums out from Bootsy, Clinton, The Brides, Parliament, Parlet, Funkadelic and the others, if I could take one p-funk album with me on a deserted island, and it can not be a compilation or best of album, this would be the one. If you are a true old school funk fan, this is a MUST HAVE in your collection. Take this prescription from the Doctor of Funk. You're Gonna have to take your shoes off, and kick up your feels like the foot stranger.

If Funkadelic was aimed at older rock fans and Parliament at older R&B fans, then the offshoot Bootsy's Rubber Band was aimed at younger listeners, the "geepies" in Bootsy-talk, who would be attracted to Bootsy's cartoon character and funky, cartoonish songs. His lengthy career continues with the double CD Blasters of the Universe. The first disc contains 14 songs, which recall the glory days of P-Funk with their catchy chants and elaborate vocal harmonies atop a churning, muscular dance beats. The second disc recycles eight of those tunes in extended, instrumental mixes, thus making it easier for today's hip-hop collagists to sample (and pay royalties on) Collins' inimitable grooves. After all, there's hardly a major rap act who hasn't sampled a P-Funk or Bootsy's Rubber Band track at some point. --Geoffrey Himes

. IT'S REALLY ABOUT TIME people gave this young man his props ,I mean form james browns band to his own band and hanging tuff with clinton,b-52's,talking heads c'mon folks you heard him sometimes if he did not sing you knew the sound of his style , ohh, so he got funkified on this set, where have you been momma ? WAS STILL GOOD TO YOU ? This cd kicks BUTT!!!! and you get instrumentals as well.If this doesn't make you dance nothing will, unless you still find your satisfation with the rappers who can only assimilate the funk ,So on that note don't fake the funk or your nose has got to grow Baby.P.S don't forget THE OTHER MAN MR EDDIE HAZEL

5 out of 5 stars blasters return of the uncut.......2001-10-31

yeah bootzills here wind me up, return of casper, p-funk in effect rught here, botsy seeing everybody, and their mama sampling, james brown, and george cliton, decided to make some new tracks so 10,15 years someone will use these in future raps or whatever they wanna make, half of the p-funk crew stops by like dr.funkenstein, bernie worrell, mudbone, maceo, and fred wesley so old fans should enjoy this new funk of the millenium and beyond, there's even a tribute to eddie hazel on here plus a song mr. hazel, and bootsy did back in the day called what else blasters come on bootsy fans come and get funked for 2001, and beyond.

4 out of 5 stars tight&funky.......2000-02-07

these two discs are blazing for the most part.Bootsy hardly gets the Love&respect he deserves.this man is very talented.not only on bass, but as a guitar player, keyboard player and a blazing drummer.not to mention as a writer, arranger&producer.then on top of all of that he has a blazing band that can give up the funk and take names.this is a good set.a must have for fans of the P-Funk Mob.
