Customer Reviews:
Weakest collection so far in this series.......2005-04-13
I have provided reviews for Volumes 1-5 in this series, and this so far is the weakest one yet. Some of the earlier volumes cotained some of the best songs of the disco era along with a few lesser songs to fill out the CD. This CD has fewer classics and more filler.
The A-list songs included here are: "Everybody Dance" by Chic; "Every 1's a Winner" by Hot Chocolate; "Instant Replay" by Dan Hartman; and "Get Up and Boogie (That's Right)" by Silver Convention.
The B-list songs included here are: "Pretty Baby" and "Got to Love Somebody" by Sister Sledge; "Why" by Carly Simon; "Change of Heart" by Change; "How's Your Love Life Baby" by Jackie Moore; "Heartbeat" by Taana Gardner; and "S.O.S, Fire in the Sky" by Deodato.
The truly bad songs here are: "I Shoulda Loved Ya" by Narada Michael Walden; "Mayday" by Sheila & B. Devotion; "You Light my Fire" by Sheila B. Devotion (is that a typo on the CD or did she go by 2 different names?); and "Sex Symbol" by Foxy.
3 songs that are good but don't belong on a disco collection: "Give it Up" by KC; "Tonight" by Kool & the Gang; and "Point of no Return" by Nu Shooz.
So let's recap: 4 really good disco songs, 7 disco songs that are just OK, 4 disco songs that are lousy, and 3 songs that are not really disco. Not what I would consider a good disco album.
Earlier collections had already included the better songs by Chic and Sister Sledge. And why they included Foxy's "Sex Symbol" instead of "Hot Number", which is a far better tune, is beyond me. And the use of several Sheila & B. Devotion songs on these volumes is a mystery that is best left unsolved. For the completists out there like myself, buy this CD. For others wanting the big, memorable hits of disco, skip this mess.
