Slightly more eclectic than "2 manyDj's",with a rougher edge.......2004-08-18
By the same people that brought you the "Too Many Dj's Pt 2", these series of bootleg albums (5 in total), adhere to the same principal as "Too many dj's" but the mix's here are far more wider reaching in the genres used. (Avant-guitar group "Sonic Youth", Synth-poppers "The Human League", Art-Rock group "Devo").
But because this isn't a commercial release, more chances are taken with the mix, and although the feel is a little 'Rougher around the edges'. hearing "The Prodigy's - Poison mixed into "The Rolling Stones - Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow" is a truly sublime moment, and although the actual mix is anything but perfect, it (at the very least) deserves a nod of respect for even attempting to mix the two distinctly different musical styles, and somehow managing to pull it off (slightly wonkily).
And this mean feat is only topped by "The Chemical Brothers - Under The Influence" masterfully dropped into "Adam and the ant's - Stand and Deliver", to make a dance-floor mix-mash-up tune, of pure distinction and leaves know doubt in your mind, as to why you've seeked these albums out in the first place.
If you have started to collect the multitude of "2 many Dj's" / "Hang All Dj's" albums, then this continues the experimentation and fusing of distinctly different genres. The asking price for these albums is indeed quite expensive, but if you like any of the "2 many / Hang all Dj's" albums, there's nothing here to disuade you. Sure the mixing isn't as polished as "2 many Dj's part 2", but then that was a general commerical release. These are bootlegs through & through, and so what it lacks in studio polish, it makes up for with new ideas & genre splicing.
And if the slightly high asking price, and the rough edges doesn't deter you (and why should it, if your a fan of these bootleg mash-ups), then this is easily one of the best mix cd's of recent years.
If you love 2Many Dj's,then you will love this.......2004-07-11
This C.D. continues in the fine tradition of all the SoulWax recordings; a great mishmash of dance music from all different genres. This one includes a lot of oldies, but goodies ( i.e.-Devo, B-52's); kind of a walk down memeory lane.Excellently mixed as always. If you are looking for a DJ mix of current hits; this is not it.Very entertaining if you have broad musical taste that go back a few years.

Not the strongest collection around, but worth finding for some of the otherwise unavailable extended mixes.......2007-01-16
Most every song on this collection is well worth hearing, but the collection itself has mostly been rendered redundant by bigger, more comprehensive collections. However, the full 12" version of Regina's "Baby Love" is almost certainly the best-ever treatment of that great song, and this may be the only way to get it. (Finding the full album that features the song in its base form is not exactly the easiest thing to do in the first place).
A reviewer said "The songs are all extended versions..." like it's a bad thing! That's not good!.......2005-10-26
Perhaps in today's concept of remixing, it would be better to have the original Pop version because the remix translated the song into something barely even a shadow of it's original self. However, this was not always the case! In the 70's and 80's when a song got remixed it still sounded like the original version but longer and with some variation in the tonal sounds. Perhaps instruments not used in the original mix were used in the remix.
Now for the review of this cd. Here we have 9 songs in "12" form". However; these versions are STILL of the original production, perhaps with little additional production or overdubs which COMPLIMENT the original music, not replace it! Back in the 80's when I heard a song I really was diggin' I always looked forward to getting the 12" record onto my turntable to heard it. In most cases, the remixes were better as the recording's sonic levels were retweaked and some instruments that either were not used in the original mix or were more in the background are present and/or more pronounced. Other traits of these remixes would be sound effects, punched up drums and percussion. For me and a lot of the remix fans, getting a remixed version of our favorite songs was like getting the whole box of chocolates instead of just a bite-sized piece.
Alot of these songs' 12" versions made it onto radio during drive-time hours. When I bought this cd so many years ago, it was for the 12" version of Baby Love. This is the version I am used to and the radio version was just not going to do. I Can't Wait was one of those remixes that hit the radio in full form during all hours of the day in the S.F. Bay Area...but perhaps that was just in San Francisco but not in places like Denver! I can understand people being used to the radio version. However, if they really liked that version, it seems that they would like to get MORE of the song that they love. This was the case for me. Nowadays, I don't get more of the song I love, I get a recreation of it, and most of the time, yes I like the original version better.
80s NRG in full 12" form!!!.......2005-08-09
Too bad volume one was never available on CD (I still have it on double vinyl, and it has a lot of early 80s club tracks that aren't easily available on CD). But this has all full length 12" versions. Track times:
1. I can't Wait (6:20)
2. Baby Love (6:30)
3. Two of Hearts (7:50)
4. Can't Live Without Your Love (6:56)
5. Point of no Return (6:27)
6. For Tonight (7:12)
7. Showing Out (7:15)
8. Diamond Girl (5:50)
9. We Connect (7:30)
Huge Disappointment.......2005-03-01
Unlike the other person who reviewed this CD, I had high expectations when I purchased this, and was sadly disappointed. The songs are all extended versions, rather than the hit radio versions. I was a huge fan in the 80's of Nu Shooz, Regina, and Stacey Q...but if you are looking for the versions you remember hearing on the radio, then you better keep looking because you won't find them here. Also, unlike the previous reviewer, I also had heard of and loved Nancy Martinez's Top 40 hit, "For Tonight" and I also used to love listening to Mel & Kim at the clubs with "Showing Out (Get Fresh at the Weekend)", but even the extended versions of those songs are not the way I remember hearing them at the clubs "back in the day." I am hanging on to this CD until I can find the original single versions of these songs, but save your money and pass on this one.
Cheesy 80's dance pop at it's tastiest.......2001-03-12
I first bought this album based on a critic's recommendation, not knowing that he was writing about Vol. 1. I liked it just fine (maybe in part because of the mistake - my mind was more open to it) and when I finally located Vol. 1, I enjoyed it even more. (It's rather odd that only 2 is still in print, especially since 1 has a much more recognizable list of artists). This is mid-80's dance pop - silly, electrobeat heavy, mindless in the best possible way, and good fun if you have a taste for the genre. You get Nu Shooz's one shining top 40 moment, their not-bad followup, Stacy Q's classic Barbie doll imitation, Regina's Madonna rip (aided and abetted by Mad's early collaborator Stephen Bray), and four other artists I've never heard of before or since (which is probably for the best). They all sound aces here, remixed and pumped up for your pleasure.
