Customer Reviews:
a so so album.......1999-12-17
After listening to injected i thought this would be a good album. I was disapointed to hear that they have calmed down there flow with mellow pop. Songs like paranoid, party people, and million rappers are the best songs on this cd. If you are starting to get into the phunk junkeez get injected first then get this cd.
PJ's struggle with 3rd output.......1999-07-14
The Phunk Junkeez have always been known for great music, and very energetic shows. I have seen them several times and they are still a great band, but this album was a big disappointment. The PJ's hard to find self titled debut is nothing short of a masterpiece, if a copy is ever available, snatch it up! This album fails to bring any notable songs, as it is a bit slower with an obvious void left by K-Tel. The one bright spot is the short but sweet song "Deadbeat".
highly anticipated album that satisfies.......1999-07-08
awesome album if you like the junkeez. slow songs still aren't their bag but the pumped ones more than make up for it.
Phunk Junkeez: Tearin' up a Wack Planet!.......1999-03-10
I had tha oportunity ta see these guys live in Columbus OH with ICP and Tha Kottonmouth Kings and ta say tha least...these guys were tha s***! I had ta get tha cd and it bumps! It goes beyond Injected, an ealier yet still cool title from this...this is definetly a must-have title.
It's a bit different sound, but I like it........1998-12-26
If you are like me, than you first saw the Phunk Junkeez on stage....and then the next day had to go buy their albums. It is impossible for a band with such an entertaining live performance to fully capture the same mood in a recording, but I still listen to all their albums quite often. "Fear of a Wack Planet" has a different sound than previous albums and I think that is why this release sounds fresh. If you are just looking for some adrenalized phunk than perhaps this album might not live up to your expectations. All the songs on an album don't have to sound the same for the music to sound tight, that is exactly what makes me love "Fear of a Wack Planet", it is fresh and has a nice mix of moods.

Album Description
Eldee Young and Isaac `Red' Holt began their careers as the stand-up bass player and drummer for Ramsey Lewis. After Lewis' success with The `In'Crowd, Young and Holt formed their own outfit and scored hits in the mid-60's with 'Soulful Strut' (sampled for Joss Stone's 'Don't Cha Wanna Ride') and 'Wack Wack' (which has become a hit in Europe again after being used in a TV spot). This 21-track compilation features those tracks along with jazzy cover versions of songs by the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Burt Bacharach and others. There are currently no Young Holt titles available in the U.S., which makes this a real treat for jazz and R&B fans. Edsel. 2005.

Customer Reviews:
The Ramsey Lewis Trio Continued..........2005-03-31
This is basically just a continuation of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, minus Ramsey Lewis. Nothing new. Nothing original. Nothing gained, nothing losed. There's still the light pop melodies over the latin rhythms.
Never the less, The Ramsey Lewis Trio was great, so any continuation of that is great. This neat little trio does swing! Their hit, Wack Wack is good, and the cover of popular tunes are also good. Young Holt Unlimited, just continued what they were doing in the Ramsey Lewis Trio, without Lewis who was the reason for the disbanding of them. There are other Young Holt Unlimited songs to check out like, Soulful Strut, they're best cut, in my opinion.
The Ramsey Lewis Trio broke up officially in 1965, but Eldee and Red kept it going in their neat little trio called Young Holt Unlimited.
Happy Listening.
Wacking Soulfully.......2003-10-09
"You know that I love you with the wind & rain in your hair and the moon shining down through the trees," Eldee Young says on the opening track of this re-release of Young Holt Trio's, later called Young Holt Unlimited, debut 1967 release. Brunswick has done a nice job of digitally remastering the disc, giving it a very clean contemporary sound. When Eldee Young and Red Holt split from Ramsey Lewis, they wanted to capitalize on the association, thus pianist Hysear Don Walker's whose Lewis-style piano figures so heavily in their sound was not titled in the band name. They do some classics in decent fashion here. Lennon & McCartney's "Yesterday" is given a bit more upbeat treatment than the original with Red Holt splashing the cymbals feverishly. Bobby Hebb's classic "Sunny" is also goosed with some righteous bopping. The Mamas & the Papas' classic "Monday Monday" by John Phillips is given a loose treatment with Walker's piano fleshing the melody. The title tune sounds a bit like Booker T & the MGs, but is a lot of fun with the guys shouting out "Wack Wack" as the piano bangs the note. The classic "Red Sails in the Sunset" is given an epic treatment. This set sounds remarkably fresh 36 years after it was recorded. This is one that jazz and rock fans will want to seek out! Enjoy!

Go buy this...immediately!.......1998-11-17
This is definitely one of the best albums of 1996. Although not publicized as much as it should have been...those who seek out music and artists beyond what's provided by MTV and radio most definitely found this album. It's melodic and dreamy in parts and loud and aggressive in others but still appealing to the mildest of music tastes. Being signed onto Smashing Pumpkins label may be there only fall back because they are repetitively compared to Corgan... people, listen to this album... they are without a doubt UNIQUE!!
Musical Geniuses.......1998-07-21
When I first listened to this album I wasn't really sure if I liked it. Then as time went on I found myself humming it and I'd have to hear it again and again. It's definitely not your run of the mill poppy music stuff that's out right now, I think it's ahead of its time. The lyrics are my favorite part, I would describe them as simplistically complex and most likely misinterpreted by the listener. Definitely an album that will grow on you and leave you wanting more!!

Vote Young-Holt Unlimited.......2001-09-11
Did these guys ever make a bad song? If you find one, please don't let me know. Also, check out their long time friend Ramsey Lewis, on which records their appear frequently.
The Young Holt Trio; a rare treat........2000-08-17
The Young Holt Trio (Don Walker, Piano; Eldee Young, Bass and Red Holt, Drums) played the most exciting, vibrant and swinging jazz versions of popular tunes. Their style not only encompassed original improvisations that make you re-evaluate jazz and pop standards but it also relied upon a powerful and captivating rhythm section.
This may sound like the idle boast of an undoubted fan but it cannot be dismissed as such when the Trio's provenance is known. Those familiar with the Ramsey Lewis Trio will already have heard Eldee Young and Red Holt for it was these gentlemen who played with the Ramsey Lewis Trio when it had the hits "Hang on Sloopy" and "The "In" Crowd". Ramsey subsequently moved on to other things leaving Young and Holt to ply their skills with a new and entirely different pianist; Hysear Don Walker.
Walker's playing is fascinating. He can play warm, fat and relaxing chords that just flow over you as if you're being gently lapped by the waves of a warm sea. He is no middle of the road elevator musician, though. He has a heart and soul of jazz and the technical virtuosity needed to express his feelings to profound effect. He gently builds on the existing melody in the numbers he plays with subtlety and skill. A song starts reassureingly and sometimes even quietly. Don't be fooled; he's just laying down the ground rules of melody and rhythm that he'll build on to make the tune his own and reinvent it in your mind. As I've said, he's not the only hero. This isn't a lone star shining in a dull firmament.
Young's bass playing has to be heared to be believed. Listen to him in "Song For My Father" and "Sunny". Ever tried plucking a string on a Double Bass or Bass Cello ? Well, try it and then try and tell me how he can play so fast, so loudly...so softly. If I'm saying he's dextrous then I'm not saying enough. He has a cart load of Jazz in him and he's full of Soul.
On to Holt. When I heard this album for the first time I thought there were two drummers in it. Hearing him, you can feel the pleasure he has in playing Jazz. His percussion pulsates with unerring energy. When he really gets going he's not just relying on sticks and feet with which to make music but hands and elbows too ! He also has been credited with being the first percussionist to sucessfully introduce the tambourine into Jazz. Not possible you say ? Well, just listen to him.
So in the Young Holt Trio you will hear three excellent Jazzmen. But you will not merely hear three separate soloists; not just a trio of musicians; The Young Holt Trio is a Triumvirate. Each member is a truly indespensible contributor to the whole, and the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. They read each other and complement each other.
In this album you will find up beat, positive and startling interpretations of well known numbers. They are played by people who excel in their art. You owe it to yourself to join in and have some fun.
