Waiting to Exhale is the exception that proves the rule about mish-mash '90s soundtrack albums. Even though it features 22 different female voices, the album boasts a rare continuity because Babyface wrote or cowrote 15 of the songs and produced all 16. Moreover, the gifted R&B artist used every song to explore the film's theme of women trying to balance self-respect and romantic desire. Not only has Babyface (nee Kenny Edmonds) created a fascinating song suite, he has produced one of the best middle-of-the-road-pop, adult- contemporary albums of the decade. Mary J. Blige stakes out a claim as the new diva on the block with an astonishing performance on "Not Gon' Cry." Babyface's music and lyrics suggest a woman barely holding back a swelling flood of anger and heartache, and Blige's brilliant vocal captures both the agitation and the restraint. --Geoffrey Himes

Released Again.......2007-07-28
Phenominal movie and can't wait to get the soundtrack. That one song "Count on Me" explains it all for the woman who stands in need of exhaling...everytime I watch it I cry at the last scene no matter the mood. My, My, My, My, My...Bought a copy for my sista girl.
One of my favorite soundtrack albums of all time.......2007-07-13
First, there was the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Interesting. Then, some eighteen years later, Waiting to Exhale soundtrack. MARVELOUS. Simply marvelous. Every song on this album is pleasing to the ears. One of my favorites would have to be My Love, Sweet Love, by Patti Labelle. The other one would have to be Count on Me, by Whitney Houston, and Cece Winans. This soundtrack album definitely helps me out, especially when I am having one of those bad days. Or whenever I am in a sensual, yet excited mood. A must have album for all women.
Great CD!.......2007-03-08
I really love this CD, I've been to every Best Buy in town and no one had it. I was so excited to know that Amazon had it, I order it imediately. And the prices are great.
The Greatest R&B Soundtrack of the 90's!!!!!.......2007-02-04
"Sometimes you'll laugh and sometimes you will cry, life never tells us the whens or why's, but when you've got friends to wish you well.. You'll find the point that you will exhale, Shoop Shoop.
This amazing soundtrack which featured some of the greatest female R&B singers of the 90's showcases the raw powerful talent of not only the female artists, but the man who wrote, produced, and arranged most of the songs of the soundtack, Babyface. I recommend this album to anyone who has seen the movie or if you love R&B music that this is an album that has to be included in your music collection. Let's begin with the first song, which brings forth the passion and power of the soundtrack
1)Exhale (Shoop Shoop)- Strong opening for the song. Ms. Houstons vocals were strong. The lyrics wonderful as they portrayed the emotional drama that occured during the movie
2)Why does it hurt so bad?- Wonder why some of us are still in love with someone who has hurt us so bad. Well Babyface and Whitney want to tell you and they do so brillantly. This incredible song demonstrates why Ms. Houston is one of our greatest singers of all time.
3)Let it flow- Have Toni Braxtons Secrets album, then you alredy know about this song. Now Say lalalalala
4)Hurts Like Hell- Bow down to the Queen of Soul, Ms. Franklin. This was probably one of the best songs of the album. Ms. Franklin talks about the hurt we all go through when love turns sour and how the survivial hurts like hell
5)Sitt'in in my room- At the time Brandy the soundtrack was released. Brandy was one of the youngest newcomers of the R&B scene. Although initially, I wanted Aaliyah to be on the soundtrack and wondered why she was not there, Brandy did a great job with the song, it brought a youthful approach about love and romance.
6)This is how it works- This before the fan mail CD was probabaly TLC's most provocative song out there. If your listening at work make sure to keep it at low volume.
7) Not Gon'Cry- This song totally fits the character of Angela Basset from the movie and for any woman who has been betrayed by her lover, friend, and or husband. Known to all of us, as the Queen of Hip Hop and Soul Babyface really knew what song to give Mary J. Blige and this song really showcases Mary's ability to do a variety of R&B styles not just with songs that have a Hip Hop edge to them
8)My Funny Valentine- Yes a remake of this incredible song, it can only be done by a great singer and Chaka Khan the legend that she is outdid herself immensely. Her voice was so sultry, and inviting that the song really gets you in the mood for umm some long loving....
9)And I Gave My Love to You- When I hear this song I think of soul, hip hop,and poetry.
10)All Night Long- Great song to seduce your man into getting him into the mood.
11)Wey U- Even though I did not understand the lyrics. Chante Moores voice is so great that you overlook it
12)My Love, Sweet Love- Ms. Labelle is not going to let these other girls get all the attention with this sweet song. Yes, she is going to sing nice and slow, but towards the end she is going to give us a wave of emotion which only Patti can give.
13)Kissing You- One of my favorite songs from Faith Evans. Ms. Evans at this time had just barely entered the R&B scene and Babyface knew what song to give to her really push her out to mainstream.
14)Love will be waiting at home- The last songs of the soundtrack show a variety of artists who were not really known in the music scene. For Real was an incredible R&B group that showcased great singer but sadly did not make it to mainstream
15)How could you call her baby- Want to win an agrument with your man if he is cheating. Play this song.
16)Count on Me- What do you when you feature the greatest singer of our time (Ms. Houston) and match her with one of the greatest Gospel vocalists of our time (Ms. Winans). An incredible song that talks about being there for someone you care for.
All In All this soundtrack was incredible
Love It!.......2006-05-11

"The Lost the Sick and the Sacred" by Inhale/Exhale is the perfect mixture of heavy and melodius.

First listen: some songs were amazingly awesome.
Second listen: all songs were amazingly awesome.
The lyrics are really powerful - I enjoy this album in many different moods.
The Lost, The Sick-The Pretty Good.......2007-03-09
Other than a couple of songs that felt forced, the cd overall is pretty good-except for one glaring omission. As a drummer, and as a metal-head, the severe lack of double-bass stuck out like a sore thumb. It made an appearance in a couple of songs, but places it should've been, it wasn't. Overall, however, THE LOST THE SICK THE SACRED rocked.

SOLID STATE'S BEST CHRISTIAN METAL EVER!!!!!! .......2007-01-06
This was tremendous!! So headbanging! So heavy too! I don't know why so many stores don't have their album, it has to be a hit!! Songs "A Call To The Faithful", "Dance All Night", and "Frail Dreams And Rude Awakenings" were the best!! But the album would be better off without "Sons Of Tomorrow". And whose Noah James? The bass at the beginning of "Tonight We Die Together" was good too. The guitars in this album were so heavy and loud. Their new vocalist's vocals is great! Great screaming and beautiful singing! Even though I've never heard their original singer, their current singer is awesome and cool! GET THIS! And bring this album to church! Well written christian lyrics. BUY THIS!!!

Dancin' On The Smooth Edge!.......2006-03-04
Every time I ask someone if they ever heard of the song the answer is always "NO". Oh My Goodness!!! That song has to be one of Whitney's best songs ever!!! I mean it's a mystery why it's so hard to find! The last time I heard the song was probably on the radio back in 2002. I've seen song lyrics online but for the life of me I can't even remember how the tune went!!!! MAN!
I wonder why this song has never been on any "Greatest Hits" albums. This song must be extremely exclusive for Amazon not to have a mp3 sample of the song for us to preview.
Whitney Houston's Best Vocal Performance (Surprise!).......2004-01-27
This rare overlooked CD contians something very special:
"Dancing on the Smooth Edge"
This song never made it on to the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack, which is odd because it is, in my opinion, Whitney Houston's best performance. It is a beautiful song and it really shows off her voice. It kind of has an 80's sound (which I like)to it, which may be why it was dropped from the soundtrack. This song alone is easily worth the price of the CD.
"Smooth Edge" is the kind of material that Ms. Houston should continue to put out.

All hail NASUM!!.......2006-04-04
I absolutely love this band. All of their cds are awesome. HOWEVER, if for some strange reason I was forced to keep only one Nasum cd and get rid of the rest, Inhale/Exhale would be the one I would keep. This is grind at it's best. Full of blast beats and a few "slower" songs that have some catchy riffs. In conclusion, it rules and everyone who likes death metal and/or grind should own this cd! SO BUY IT NOW!
Big T. Westminster CO.......2005-10-04
I feel this is Nasum's best and they're all awesome. I feel Nasum is in the top 5 grindcore bands ever, right there with Pig Destroyer(the kings),Agoraphobic nosebleed, Killwhitneydead and Blood Duster. You can't go wrong with this disc.
Perfect CD for grindcore lovers!!!!!.......2004-08-25
And this goes even further, adding lots of originality and power to fierceful breakdowns with two different vocals. You can sense some sort of sensibility that flows from the most intense to the most slow moments. Sweden is full of great bands I love (although I'm not too fond of melodic death metal).
Along with Pig Destroyer, Cephalic Carnage, Discordance Axis and Agoraphobic Nosebleed this band shows that grindcore can be the home of very talented and sensitive bands. Keep on grinding!
Praises to nasum!.......2004-07-23
Nasum= gods!!!!! Having all of nasum's albums and loving their songs as well as downloading unlerease stuff from this guys...I've have to say that i feel content that im keeping & supporting them with no regret at all. Never realy let me down once but only deliver outdone music!
New-school Grindcore.......2004-02-02
I have heard tons of grindcore material (in fact i almost listen to Grindcore/Goregrind exclusively), and this album is on my all time top 5 list.
Is it better than the legendary Scum? YES.
What about the even more legendary FETO??? Again, YES.
In fact, few albums from the oldschool age can match this one mostly because of ONE thing : BLASTBEATS.
Napalm Death used TONS of blastbeats too (before Barney got in), but IMO Nasum is way more DIVERSE in their use, and, yes, even Faster. don't take me wrong though, because i have always been a huge fan of OLD Napalm Death.
In addition to Nasum's insanely fast and DIVERSE blastbeats, they also have a VERY cool guitar sound that virtually GRINDS. Vocals are the typical High/Low trade-off of the genre.
IMO, Nasum, at least on this album at this moment in history (1998) proved themselves to be the kings of the new-grind era (Although Regurgitate overthrew them with Carnivorous Erection 2 years later).
Oldschool fans and new schoolfans should all dig the brilliance of Inhale/Exhale.

Album Description
The 1989 debut of The Billy McLaughlin Group combines McLaughlin's vocal talents with his already well-known guitar playing. McLaughlin is backed by Kirk Johnson on drums, Liz Kuivenen on piano, Scott Fultz on saxophone and Al Wolovitch on bass.
Customer Reviews:
A personal favorite.......2006-05-04
As a Billy McLaughlin fan (You know who you are!) it's hard to be objective about his music. If you've seen him live, it's all five stars. Some have said his vocals leave something to be desired. For me listening to his vocals just adds to the experience, bringing tears to my eyes, the whole concert feeling. I can sing these songs. That makes them portable for me since I definitely can't play them on guitar. Thanks, Billy, for giving us some precious lyrics to carry with us. And yes, I remember the band. Each vocal or instrumental note on this album reminds me of great performances by great local artists in and around Minneapolis.
Umm.no........2004-03-17
Billy McLaughlin is a great guitarist, although, in my opinion, not a very accomplished singer..keep up the fretwork Billy, instrumentals are great! Unfortunately there aren't many instrumentals here in this album..

Excellent CD!.......2007-05-01
ignore the last review which said "disappointing" blythe and hicks are in top form here. this is a great cd! buy with confidence.
Disappointing.......2005-03-08
I purchased this album and really did not feel it was up to the level of other CDs Blythe has played on. For me the problem was using the Tuba as a replacement for the base. On Lenox Avenue Breakdown the tuba is used more as a solo instrument and I feel having the bass on this recording effected Blythe casuing him to hold back on many solos. That being said i love Blythe and feel he is very underrated and ignored by many. Another recording is his live CD Retroflection w/ a quartet where he really shines.
Blythe blythe.......2003-09-05
Sometime in the late twenties the acoustic bass replaced the tuba as the instrument of choice for getting bottom sounds in large and small jazz ensembles.
Why?
Probably because of suppleness. The acoustic bass fiddle simply came to be regarded as capable of more ryhthmic and sonic subtly than the tuba. Yet there remain a few practioners, notably Bob Stewart (featured on this release) and Marcus Rojas, who continue to brilliantly explore the possibilities of jazz tuba.
This, Arthur Blythe's second consecutive recording featuring John Hicks (piano), Stewart (tuba), and Cecil Brooks III (drums), continues his Indian Summer of great releases. Once regarded as perhaps the next great altoist, signed by Columbia and majorly hyped, Blythe never really lived up to his billings. This slightly skewed format seems perfectly suited to Blythe's unique gifts--a brawny alto sax presence, a sort of rough-and-ready soloing concept, and a very attractive, almost mellowed out tone--and presents him in perhaps his optimal jazz context.
Not required to live up to other people's bloated expectations, Blythe in his autumn years, with his formidable bandmates, is content just to make glorious jazz music. And we, his listeners and fans, are the happy benificiaries.
Really, check this one out. Blythe at the top of his game invites informed listening.
