Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Melba has got it goin' on..........2007-05-08

Most of today's R&B divas need to take it back and listen to some of Ms. Moore. After her departure from the contemporary R&B scene, most R&B music has been somewhat lackluster in my opinion. Ms. Moore took every song she had and gave it feeling, truth, and emotion. And don't even get me started on Paul Laurence Jones III, Kashif, and Van McCoy, with their superior production and songwriting! Take the music and couple it with Ms. Moore's urgent, soulful, velvety voice and you have some of R&B's finest underrated, hidden treasures. Personal faves: Love's Comin' at Ya, Take My Love, Mind Up Tonight, Keepin' My Lover Satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars 80's Soul At It's Peak.......2006-04-18

Melba Moore gave us some good music throughout the 80's. I love everything about this album. The Lala composition "Livin' For Your Love" is one of my faves! Sexy, funky and sleek! Get this!

2 out of 5 stars This ain't it!.......2005-10-13

I love Melba's voice and many of her recordings but they never should have re-named this cd after the real THIS IS IT album produced by Van McCoy. Melba Moore did most of her finest recordings with McCoy which were not necessarily her biggest hits but splendid performances. It's too bad that the memory of Van McCoy (a great singer, composer, arranger and conductor) has been relegated to Disco because of 2 or 3 major hits that he had during the 70's. The real THIS IS IT album has most of his Melba Moore corroborations on it. Save your money for the real thing. This is not a good example of the BEST of Melba Moore.

4 out of 5 stars At her best........2005-05-13

Melba Moore's Capitol releases from 1980-89 yielded a number of Top 20 R&B hits for her. The various producers she worked with (Paul Laurence, Kashif, McFadden & Whitehead, etc.) gave her many fine songs which showcased her vocal talents while simultaneously keeping her in contemporary R&B circles. While her recent CDs leave much to be desired, Melba Moore was a great diva in her own right and this is her best collection to date.

5 out of 5 stars I still love this album 8 years since I bought the CD! .......2004-09-27

Melba Moore is still one of my favorite singers. I loved that 1982 to 1990 period of hits that she had! This album has her best music! I had never heard the first hits from 1975, but they were quite impressive, the starting point to a successful music career. I think that the trio of albums she did in '85, '86 and '88 are her best and it's well represented on this album. The rocking Read My Lips, the nice It's Been So Long, A Little Bit More, I Can't Complain, Love the One I'm With and others. One song I never heard that was a hit was Living For Your Love and she sounds fabulous vocally on that one. The first Melba song I ever heard was You Stepped Into My Life, that Bee Gees remake, and I still love that song. She could do disco quite good on that one, even though her forte is midtempo to slow ballads. The songs are well assembled here to show her many vocal styles on them. They're not in chronological order, but they sound good together. Perhaps her best performance is Lean on Me, where she holds that note for 22 seconds or so! She has a way with that voice of hers! The same way with Falling. Last year, I saw her sing on Beyonce's movie The Fighting Temptations. She still has it today with her singing and I hope that her venture into gospel goes well too. This album covers her music career very strongly and it's just a true representation of her talent.
