Album Description
Though best known as an actress, Minnie Driver defied critics' expectations and established herself as a serious artist and musician with her well-received debut album Everything I've Got in My Pocket. Her new CD SEASTORIES goes farther in exploring new musical territory, from the rich sonic textures of "Beloved" to the bluesy soul of "Cold Dark River" to the seductive minor key groove of "Mockingbird" to the poetic chamber folk of "Lakewater Hair." Producer Marc "Doc" Dauer and guest musicians Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, Liz Phair and Rami Jaffee (The Wallfowers) match but never overwhelm Driver's vivid lyrics, soaring melodies and spirited performances on this thoroughly pleasing collection of intelligent pop.
"Blasting holes in the actor-singer stigma...Minnie Driver isn't like most actors who treat making records as a hobby. She's actually good." - HARP

Is This One A Grammy? In My Heart It Is!!!.......2007-07-25
I loved Minnie Driver's first cd-"Everything I've Got In My Pocket" and this cd: "Seastories" is just as good or even better! I love her smooth haunting vocals and I can't help but feel a slight sadness and yet hopeful undertone while I listen to this. I felt many emotions draw me in, the minute I started to play it. I enjoy all the songs on this cd, but my favorite stand out tracks are: "Stars & Satellites", "Beloved"(my very favorite) and "Mockingbird". What a perfect time of year to release this fresh and exciting new album by Minnie. I believe she will get award recognition for this and if not- she definitely gets an award from my heart and soul, everytime I listen to this. You know the feeling you get when you have a conversation with a close friend you have not heard in a while, that's the feeling I get when I hear her sing....like a comfortable close friend.
Very, very, very good........2007-07-21
I saw her perform this the night the CD was released. It was in a really small bar with a ridiculously small stage. Her band could barely fit on it. Anyway, every song she sang I was hearing for the first time. I knew she could sing but was pleasantly surprised at what I heard from this band. I wondered what the CD would sound like and it is wonderful. A previous reviewer mentioned the first five songs and that is spot on. There's great fare in the vein of Chrissie Hynde, Fleetwood Mac, and even The Band. Here's a suggestion: preview Seastories for free via Rhapsody's service and listen to it through a pair of good headphones. Beautiful music that touches the spirit.
(Addendum)
I've now listened to the CD about 20 times and I'm just thrilled. I previously talked about the first five songs but the sixth song How To Be Good has become my favorite. Beloved is damn close to being the perfect single too. This is one hell of a CD.
Minnie, let me be the first to congratulate you on what should be a well deserved Grammy nod.
Surprisingly stunning.......2007-07-19
After having enjoyed her in several diverse film and TV projects, the most recent one being The Riches, I have really come to respect Minnie Driver as a versatile actress. I had no idea however that she was a musician with 2 CDs out too, and I was blown away when I started to listen to Seastories. I was immediately hooked. She has a bittersweet style that is gentle, melancholic, and completely real and grounded (a surprise for a big actress). I've been listening to the CD for the last couple of days and can't get some of the songs out of my head. They are like ear candy--pleasantly melodic with an emotional presence that hits the spot perfectly. I can't believe that this album--with its folksy/dream pop/atmospheric sound and slight country tinge at times--was made by a British actress! But thanks to its authenticity and accessibility, my disbelief quickly faded and I became enchanted with Minnie's beautiful style.
A Star Indeed!.......2007-07-18
I can only echo another reviewer and say that Driver is IT. However, where I liked much of her first album, despite it's atmospheric slowness (I wished it had rocked a little more, had more variety), with this one, she's stolen my heart. The opening title just engaged me right away, and from there, through the next five songs, it never let up. The seventh and eighth tracks I will have warm up to, but then she hit me with "London Skies" and through to the end, a sort of brief bow called "Love Is Love," I AM in love. Her singing is strong and assured, her songwriting equal to any, in the huge crop of good singer/songwriters working today, and there's lots of thrilling stuff going on behind her, especially the bass work by Chris Feinstein and Al Wolovich on some, and Ed Heywood's pedal steel on "How To Be Good," and the gorgeous ballad that is the climax of this album, "Coming Back To Life." There are nice touches by Liz Phair and others, but this is Driver's moment; the "entire package" includes some nice photos, an added bonus to a CD that will be staying in my changer for a while. Excellent.
SeaStories brings it "too the shores".......2007-07-17
Let Me be the 1st too say..where "evrything i got in my pocket" was a wonderful cd like a ship a-float on the ocean..and her vocals like a breeze of silk..this cd brings it too the shores..no sophmore slump here!! and she puts to rest along standing comment.."actors can't sing/singers can't act">>she is the FULL package! also a wonderful song-writer!..i have listened to this disc 3 times already today, and only got it a few hours ago!.."sorry baby" is a fun up-tempo track..and "beloved" is wonderful!..it's the perfect, what i call "sunday-record"..put on the coffee, read the paper, and just relax and listen!...the only reason i gave it 4-stars is, that for me i just wanted it NOT too end..so really (it's a 5)..i could go on..but then you wouldn't have time to really enjoy the magic (of what i HOPE the record companies keep around)of Minnie Driver!...Peace..may your ears stay happy Bill McClenthan

British actress Minnie Driver's debut album is a more than credible affair--and a far cry from the usual travesty that unfolds with thespians who pine to be rock stars--outdistancing efforts by brethren like Don Johnson, Russell Crowe, and more recently Juliette Lewis. But then Driver was well on her way to becoming a recording artist as a member of the Puffs, Rock and Brown, but was sidetracked when she scored the starring role in 1995's Circle of Friends. If this CD is any indication, she should have rethought her priorities. Driver's voice is a wistful and stylish hybrid of a rather morose and breathy Kathleen Edwards and a more austere Sheryl Crow, raiding her own rather colorful autobiography for material, giving fans a chance to pick apart her rather melancholy lyrics to decipher which one of her famous beaus--like Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, Josh Brolin, or John Cusack--inspired them. Driver convinced members of the Wallflowers and Pete Yorn (whose brother is her agent) to play join her in the studio, giving her music a deft authentic gloss that might not have surfaced had she just used nameless studio pros. As a result Driver's music is languid and sensual dream pop, verging on alt country, but never making it over that rickety wooden fence. --Jaan Uhelszki
Album Description
The delete bins of history are littered with the recording attempts of actors who fancy themselves as singers. In the case of Minnie Driver, music actually came first. She began singing in London's jazz clubs as a teenager, eventually joining a band that landed a deal with Island Records. She was in the midst of negotiating a solo deal with EMI when the hit film Circle of Friends came along and changed her life. But she always longed to return to music, and with the release of Everything I've Got in My Pocket, Driver has made the album she's been dreaming of making since her teenage years. Backed by a group that includes members of the Wallflowers and Pete Yorn's band, the album deftly blends Driver's sultry, bittersweet vocals with sparse, atmospheric pop and a hint of contemporary folk. With ten original songs and an unforgettable cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart," Driver's debut marks the arrival of an accomplished singer-songwriter.
Customer Reviews:
Very mellow soothing sexy CD.......2007-06-01
Minnie Driver, what can you say...
Very good actress, believable in romance, funny in comedy, spellbinding in her current project " The Riches", is here a self examining songwriter, and once again a very good one. As a bonus (or due to not enough original tracks to fill out a CD) there is a heart wrenching version of Sprinsteen's "Hungry Heart" that is also quite memorable.
Her voice is a sexy, soft, raspy and breathy, no power balads here, and no iratating vocal runs. It gives it a refreshingly honest feel, like it is meant for just you.
If you are looking for something fairly fresh and mellow, (performed by a grown up beautiful woman) you will not be dissapointed with this buy!
Everything I've got in my pocket.......2007-05-16
A pretty good CD. I really enjoy the title song as well as a few others, but I was not impressed with some songs including the bruce springsteen remake. I would recommend it for the listener trying to find a voice that is enchanting and different than what is currently available in music today
Praise to Ms. Driver.......2006-09-07
Wow! I did not expect much from this album but that just goes to show you should not judge a CD by its cover (or in in this case by its actress/songstress). Minnie Driver has a hauntingly beautiful voice that is reminiscent of Sarah McLachan. I love every song on this album including Ms. Driver's remake of "Hungry Heart." The song that drew me in however is number 6's "Deeper Water." I was sunk with the first note. *smile*
I truly hope Ms. Driver will follow this album with another. It will be a great loss to us if she does not.
if you like tori amos you will like minnie.......2006-03-22
this is the second time I bought this album. I lost the original in a house fire and I like it so much I had to replace it.
impressive.......2006-03-02
I got this CD not expecting much based on the fact it is usually a taboo thing to try to cross over from acting to singing....Boy was I ever wrong, she is amazing, listening to her beautiful voice just calms the soul.If you like Dido or Enya, you will definetly like Minnie.Definetly a must to add to your collection. There is not one song that sticks out,you have to listen to the whole album to appreciate the beauty of it.

Minnie Riperton's untimely death from breast cancer (in 1979 at the age of 32) robbed the world of one its truly great, truly distinctive voices. Her operatically-trained, five-octave instrument was the very model of beauty and control. Consequently, her signature tune, "Lovin' You," is likely the breeziest bit of pop you may ever hear. In addition to her own songs, Riperton also makes light work of material as lovely and strong as Stevie Wonder's "Perfect Angel" and Joni Mitchell's "Woman of Heart and Mind." The only misstep on this collection, in fact, is yet another unnecessary take of The Doors' "Light My Fire." --Michael Ruby

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED MINNIE FROM THE TIME OF HER FIRST CD, HER MUSIC HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY MALODIC AND DIFFERENT,OF COURSE THAT BEAUTIFUL VOICE OF HERS, AND TALENT ARE UNCOMPARIBLE TO ANYONE ELSE, STAN, DURBIN.

you know, that cancer is a whole 'nother monster. this cd is the reason that i am saying this. this is proof positive that minnie left us too soon. i love everything on this. it makes me wanna sit back, look at the blue skies at the beach, grab a cold beverage, and just forget. how minnie and her cohorts were able to perfectly put that vibe within everyone of these songs is beyond me, and that is what makes this so amazing. she will NEVER be forgotten here............right, mariah?
LOVIN' YOU !.......2006-07-04
Minnie Riperton was the "Perfect Angel" of sweet soul music; as Vickie Sue Robinson had the perfect rhythm for dance music. God bless them both !!

Still Lovin' You Minnie............2005-08-09
Minnie Riperton...such a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful voice. The younguns aren't ready for this one. This is for those of us that can truly appreciate real music and real talent. This woman had the voice of the most gentle hummingbird. Her songs, quite a few of which were co-written by her husband, told stories. She took our breath away. She was taken from us way too soon, but her voice will live on forever.

Customer Reviews:
A Contrast In Production Styles.......2007-06-25
The legendary Minnie Riperton's two top-20 pop albums are featured on this special cd. PERFECT ANGEL features the huge hit "Lovin' You'", while ADVENTURES IN PARADISE includes the hip-hop sampled classics "Inside My Love" and "Baby, This Love I Have".
PERFECT ANGEL represents the floaty-folksy side of Minnie, the five-and-a-half octave wonder. Produced by Stevie Wonder and Richard Rudolph, Minnie's husband, this #1 r&b album offers stripped down production and earthy lyrics on the singles "Reasons", "Take A Little Trip", "Seeing You This Way", and of course "Lovin' You". Other highlights include the jazzy title track and "Every Time He Comes Around", featuring backing vocals by fellow multi-octave singer Deniece Williams.
ADVENTURES IN PARADISE, the top-20 follow-up album, is the more jazzier and sophisticated of the two albums, thanks to producer Stewart Levine (The Crusaders), and musicians Joe Sample and Larry Carlton (also of the Crusaders). Strings and horn arrangements add a more rich production to such stellar songs as "Baby This Love I Have", the title track, the controversal single "Inside My Love" and the positive album closer "Don't Let Anyone Bring You Down". Although there's no "Lovin' You" on this album, the songs here are more fully-developed.
Two classic Minnie albums with remastered sound and excellent liner notes. What more could a fan ask for?
Perfect Angel/Adventures in Paradise..........2007-06-02
Good combination album from the now legedary Minnie Riperton! You get a real taste of what this artist could do with that multi-octave voice! She needed NO electronic assistance to create, unlike the artists of today...Five stars!
Breathtaking.......2006-05-17
It is so sad that Minnie never got the recognition for being one of our most gifted singers. With range, soul & seduction, she makes my blood sizzle. The disc is remastered superlatively.
I Still Miss Her..........2005-10-25
Minnie was simply the best, with an octave range that would embarrass any of todays contemporaries. Listening to "Inside My Love", still raises hairs on my neck, and brings reflection. She struck a tone within everyone who heard that beautiful voice. I remember clearly where I was upon hearing of her untimely passing. All I could think of was, "God had given, and taken away one of his Angels." Anyone who heard her voice, can never forget her, and this compilation of songs reflect her true essence.
Perfect Angel/Adventures in Paradise.......2005-01-29
I, like a lot of people was introduced to Minnie Ripperton's music by hearing the classic "Lovin' You" and by hearing another of my fav singers, Teena Marie rhapsodize about Minnie's voice and songwriting talent. It's a shame that younger generations of singers don't appear to know more about this phenomenal vocalist - she sings effortlessly and beautifully - no riffs or runs to prolong vocals, just straight out singing from her heart (singers in this era who remind me of Minnie are Jill Scott, Norah Jones, Lizz Wright, Puff Johnson and Amel Larrieux).
Minnie was a true artist whose interest in music ran the gamut from opera to rock to r&b/pop. Her Chess Years album displays her early rock influence while in a group. As you listen to her songs (all of which she co-wrote with her husband or Stevie Wonder) you hear a woman who took risks with her music and in my opinion, never failed.
These two albums are my personal favorites of Minnie's all too short career - sadly her life was cut short by cancer. There is truly not a bad song in the bunch and for the price of one cd, you're getting 2 amazing albums.
Standout tracks to me: Take a Little Trip, Every Time He Comes Around, Baby-This Love I Have, Minnie's Lament, Alone in Brewster Bay & Don't Let Anyone Bring You Down....of course the better known: Lovin You, Inside Each Other & Perfect Angel anchor albums that deserve 10+ ratings on their own.

Inspired by the astoundingly popular The Three Tenors series, Broadway director Marion J. Caffey conceived and directed Three Mo' Tenors, bringing greater visibility to the classically trained African American voice. Starring seasoned tenors Roderick Dixon, Thomas Young, and Victor Trent Cook, Three Mo' Tenors is a theatrically staged concert set taped for public television's Great Performances. A companion to the taped show, the disc features just over an hour of live music from it. The phenomenal showmanship of Dixon, Young, and Trent Cook takes shape in the styles of opera, Broadway, blues, jazz, soul, spirituals, and gospel. The three virtuosos hit high C's with clarity and brilliance; scat with grace and grit; belt, bend and hold a note to beat the band. They move the audience to a state of near-ecstasy performing the traditional "Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord)" and Puccini's glorious "Nessum Dorma." Other standouts include the jazz classic "Twisted," a rollicking version of "Today I Sing the Blues," and the salty "Minnie the Moocher." Boisterous, bold, and bountiful, Three Mo' Tenors is a modern classic. --Paige LaGrone
Customer Reviews:
Bravo! Mo' Mo' Mo'.......2006-05-13
The word "Mo'" in the title got my attention. I bought the CD to compare it to the already popular "Three Tenors" (Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras). Wow! Was I surprised. I had expected an all opera, classical and possibly spiritual repetoire. But, the music varies from "Nessun Dorma" to "Love Train" was truly, truly delightful. I enjoyed the wonderful voices of Thomas Young, Roderick Dixon, and Victor Trent Cook and the variety of musical selections so much that I purchased several other copies for my family and friends. Then, several months later, I saw their performance on PBS. I immediately ordered the VHS offered by the TV station, paying way, way over the retail price. But, I had to have it. It was, and is, the most exciting musical performance that I have seen. Later, when I put the tape into the player at my son's house, my 5-year-old granddaughter Ciara stood next to the sofa to watch. I expected her to move away soon, but, she stood there, during the entire playback of the performance, and I do mean from beginning to end. I left the tape there so that son could see it later. The following day, and for most days during the next several weeks, Ciara asked to have the tape played, until she later was taught to handle it herself. The family has since replaced my VHS with the DVD so that now, when Ciara visits me, we can watch the show again (and again). "Three Mo' Tenors" was so surprisingly wonderful- with great voices, charismatic personalities, terrific orchestral arrangements, lively and precisely choreographed routines, and just an overall feeling of mutual admiration and respect among the three gentlemen. The beautiful cinematics, with frequently interspersed shots of the enthusiatic audience, contributes to the feeling that I am actually there at the concert. Every time I watch it, I see and hear something new. When I first heard the CD, I was not fascinated by the countertenor voice. After seeing Victor Trent Cook's heartwarming performance on the DVD, and hearing his comment about his mother's definition of a countertenor, I have been granted a new appreciation for his voice. Here it is, years later, and I'm still enamored, remembering Roderick Dixon's "Make Them Hear You" elicits tears, Thomas Young's "Twisted" makes me laugh, and the duet with Victor and Thomas (see, I'm now on first-name basis with them) is so beautiful. I could to on and on. In fact, it's time for another listen.
This is a must have for any music lover!.......2006-01-07
I would rate this CD more than five stars if I could! I picked up this CD not knowing anything about these guys, but, knowing that I liked some of the songs contained on it. I was absolutely blown away by this collection! These guys have it all. Voices, talent, showmanship, style, technique, etc. Everytime I listen to it, I feel like I'm sitting right there in the theatre. I am a huge fan of opera, jazz and gospel. This CD covers it all! Although my favorite tracks are La Donna e Mobile, Make Them Hear You, and Nessun Dorma, they are all so good! I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again. You have to hear them to believe them!
wonderful collection of music.......2005-08-23
A good album is one that can't be categorized neatly. Three Mo' Tenors tackles classic opera, Broadway tunes and other genres with ease. They have beautiful voices, and the music they choose to interpret is so universal that even my toddler girl loves listening to it! Their technical expertise combined with their stage presence and charisma makes for an enjoyable cd. Highly recommended - especially if you are looking to introduce yourself or your children to different musical genres.
awesome music selection.......2005-08-02
These are amazing musical selections and amazing vocalists; a must-have for any well-rounded music collection. This trio can really sing!
They Left Out The Best Song.......2004-11-11
One of my most favorite performance DVD's, but how, or why, on earth did they leave off the most stiring single number on the CD - "A Song For You," by Rodrick Dixon?
Put it in, and it's a "five."

At long last, Minnie Riperton fans have a collection that does the extraordinary vocalist justice. This two-CD set is a gorgeous testament to her talents--her breathtaking, five-and-a-half octave range, her incredible versatility, and the exquisite, inimitable artistry Riperton brought to everything she did throughout her all-too-brief career, which ended tragically in 1979 when she succumbed to breast cancer at the age of 31. Though best known for her 1974 chart-topper, "Lovin' You," Riperton had a remarkable stylistic range that is showcased on this 35-track collection, which includes previously hard-to-find material such as "Lonely Girl" (a melodramatic ballad of puppy love that provides a glimpse of a young Minnie's already-impassioned vocal delivery), and tracks from her stint as a singer for psychedelic rock outfit Rotary Connection. All of Riperton's most popular tunes are here, but the collection's rewards come in discovering the singer in new ways: as a funkateer ("Young, Willing and Able"), a seductress ("Can You Feel What I'm Saying"), and a samba queen ("Could It Be I'm in Love"). And inspired collaborations with legends such as guitarist Jose Feliciano ("Light My Fire") provide delightful portraits of Riperton's innate musicality and her ear for improvisation. --Sylvia W. Perfection.......2006-02-17
I've been a fan of Minnie Ripperton for many years. I just recently lost someone I love to breast cancer and one of Minnie Ripperton's songs came to mind. "Return to Forever" is perhaps one of Minnie's most under-rated songs. I encourage everyone who has this song to close your eyes and listen. Everything from the lyrics to the very last note will grab your heart. For me this was her goodbye song, and it is truly a work of art.
R.I.P.Minnie, R.I.P........2006-01-30
Before Mariah Carey, before Whitney Houston, and before Lisa Fisher. This is a true angel who sadlley got away from us, and had so much talent and such a beautiful voice, this is for anyone interested in one of the best singers in the world, no doubt.
What A Voice!.......2005-11-02
This two-cd collection on Minnie is a great overview of her career! No need to go into how wonderful Minnie's voice is or her incredible range.... for those just getting in to her or long time fans(like myself)who have waited for years to have more Minnie available on CD, this collection a must have!!.
Baby, this love I have..for Minnie Riperton!!.......2005-04-13
Years ago, I only knew Minnie Riperton for one song..Yep, you guessed it, Loving You..However, I was listening to the radio one day and I heard Inside My Love..Thats when I picked up the greatest hits collection from Capitol Records..I was content with that, until one day, I heard the original version of Memory Lane on the radio (not the shortened version that they have on the Capitol records album)..Well I saw Petals in the record store and thought, what the hell, I might as well buy it..Im so glad I did..I was stuck on her after listening to the first greatest hits album I brought, but she became one of my influences after listening to Petals..I get sad sometimes because she's not alive, but Im content with having her powerful music and hearing her powerful voice..So let me run down some of my fave tracks:
1st Disc: Les Fleur, Seeing you this way, Reasons, Take a little trip, Loving you and Everytime he comes around
2nd Disc: Perfect Angel, Adventures in paradise, Young Willing and Able, Baby this love I have, Can you feel what Im saying, Inside my love, and Memory Lane..
It would really do her music an injustice if I tried to write too descriptive of a review because you just have to hear for yourself what this woman is all about..You can feel the love, passion and sweetness in her voice..She is one of the greatest who ever done it, no matter the record sales of other popular but extremely untalented artists..Forget Mariah, if you want to hear a high note, listen to the originator..This is some of the greatest soul music I've ever heard..Minnie Riperton is a legend..I love you Minnie!!!
Can You Feel What I am Saying..........2004-08-20
I guess you could say this is more of a tribute than a review. This lady "Mrs. Minnie Riperton" has touched my life in so many ways. I just love her sultry voice and feel what she is saying with each and every note and word. This lady has incredible style and talent. When others are gone Minnie will always be around. She is my angel and my inspiration. Anyone who is not familiar with this talented artist has missed one of God's greatest gifts. This cd will transport you to her world where only peace exist. We miss you Minnie but we know that your love and words will forever live on. Peace

This is definitely a must have........2007-05-03
Minnie Ripperton was one of those rare distintive voices that you loved to hear sing and her music still lives on here in the 21st century. These two albums take me back to my childhood years when they first came out. And those was some great years too i must say. If you are any kind of fan of Ms. Ripperton, then this cd should be in your collection, especially with two of them being on one disc.
Not Just Another Collection,But a Very Sentimental Creation.......2005-05-22
Hey Fellow Minnie fans......
I cannot tell how long its taken me to find something like this,WITH THE ENTIRE "STAY IN LOVE" Album Reissue....,even though they should have put her albums on single discs.....and print them out like they were on LPs/Vinyls in individual cases......
I am so sick of hunting in stores for Minnie's works.....They have all these singers from the 50's and 60's whom may i say hasent made any impact in the music world, and their in our local music stores, with piles of collections....now if they can put thousands of copies around the US of old material like that at our local music store.....why in the hell can't they print Minnie anywheres......or should i say,i can only find few Minnie Riperton releases in "Tower Records" and "Virgin Records"......but not in my Local Walmart,or Circuit City (even though they do carry the Petals compilation),or even Best Buy....yanno....but they can carry NO RHYTHM HAVING , VOCALLY LIMITED AND CHALLENGED SINGERS,that are more like talkers instead of singers over beats.....and thats why we fight to keep the real TALENT ALIVE....talents like Minnie Riperton,Al Green,Sam Cooke,Lou Rawls,Curtis Mayfield,The Original Temptaions,Bloodstone,Linda Jones....these were people with voices......not LOLLIPOP "I LOVE U ,U LOVE ME" singers......
Did you know that Minnie Recorded MUSIC VIDEOS,YES ACTUAL MUSIC VIDEOS LIKE U SEE TODAY,for her album titled "Minnie" ...... i bet no one even knows or yet even seen them.....i own them....luckily from a close friend......the videos are for "Memory Lane" and "Light My Fire" ......
NOW WHAT IM REALLY WAITING ON IS THE "LOVE LIVES FOREVER" album to be released......WHY DON'T THEY JUST MAKE A BOX SET FOR MINNIE????? yanno, thats killing alot of birds with 1 stone......with rare stuff......Capitol is startin' to twitch my last damn nerve.....
and then WHY ARE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES REISSUING OUR "AMERICAN" SINGERS WORKS???? i really dont understand , Minnie Riperton was an American....then why are Japanese industries making reissues?.....AMERICAN REMASTERS OUGHT TO DO IT......its sickening....to lazy to do it....or scared not enough people will buy it to put money in their pockets.....its gonna take a miracle for this to happen.....but i guess i'll keep protesting DIGITALLY and Physically....lol....
Gone but her talent survives!.......2005-04-09
Although it has been almost three decades since the singer's passing, Minnie Riperton remains an icon in popular music. Possessing a range that has yet to be topped (LISTEN, MARIAH CAREY!), Riperton had one of those voices that was beyond heavenly: lilting, enigmatic, soothing, passionate, subtle, seductive, and ethereal.
This compilation of two of her best features some of her best work: "Memory Lane," "Can You Feel What I'm Saying," "Light My Fire," "Dancin' and Acting Crazy," "Love Hurts," the dance-friendly "Stick Together," and "Lover and Friend".
For those that only know the singer from her "Lovin' You," used so prominently in advertising, this disc is a welcome introduction to the artist.
And for those that only know her as the mother of "Saturday Night Live" cast member Mya Rudolph, the album shows from where the daughter got her talent.
Minnie's Best- Stay In Love.......2004-04-04
I enjoyed the Stay In Love cassette for years. Has to be her best work. Could It Be I'm in Love, and Young, Willing and Able are outstanding and will make your body want to move. They show a groove and Minnie was more known for her ballads. The other tunes added are just icing on the cake and are fine selections in their own right. But they didn't enter into the equation when I decided to purchase this cd. The song Stay In Love is just about worth the price of admission for the whole thing. Anyone who likes Minnie will love this cd.
BACK DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MINNIE!.......2004-03-18
DON'T MISS OUT ON THESE TWO GORGEOUS ALBUMS FROM THE MOST ANGELIC VOICE OF OUR GENERATION! WE STILL MISS YOU BEAUTIFUL LADY!

Iam thrilled this is finally on CD .......2007-06-12
Minnie Riperton has always been my favorite singer of all time. I can remember listening to my aunt Cookie's love lives forever album in her basement for hours, I was about 8yrs old. I still have the album because someone told me I could convert it to CD.
I just happened to go on Amazon on friday and typed in Minnie Ripperton, and what do I see it's on CD. I was thrilled, the UPS guy just dropped it off. I went running to the CD player. This is a joy for me!!! I love her music so much it's about time this album was released on CD.
What can you say about Minnie, that voice so pure and so beautiful words can't even explain. Thank god! she was put on this earth for a short time but, at least she came and gave us this beautiful music that we can listen to forever. I know I will.
FINALLY!!.......2007-06-05
I am so very happy this collection of songs has finally been made available for domestic release. When many in the recording industry made a huge deal of the Natalie/Nat King Cole recording of "Unforgettable" in 1991, I, although happy it was successful, was not impressed.
No, the record was great. The reason I wasn't impressed is for all the hoopla made over the record, the techinology used for it had been used 11 years earlier on this album.
This album was built around Minnies' vocals recorded in 1978 with the great Leonard Caston. The instrumentation from those sessions was rerecorded, but Minnie's vocals were retained & paired with many guest artists. The result is new instrumentation and several duets w/Minnie created and released posthumously in 1980.
What a beautiful tribute this work is to Minnie and her legacy. This album has only 7 songs(the perfect number), but it is well worth it. I will always have a place in my heart for this Perfect Angel.
A Gem re-released!!!.......2007-05-15
Finally Minnie's 'Love Lives Forever' is available again for the fans that missed the brief first issue from Japan, or those of us that got tired of losing the cd on ebay for up to $200! Most know that this lp was released after we lost Minnie and with the help of some other artists and musicians adding their wonderful talents to Minnie's demo's created a wonderful album, featuring the hit 'Here We Go' with Peabo Bryson, this cd has been remastered with great sound quality, do not miss this second chance to own this!
This Is Literally Unbelievable!!!!.......2007-05-08
After all these years and all these petitions and Minnie's loyalest of loyal fans begging for this album to be reissued out on CD has finally got some justice......
I think im gonna cry (LOL) REALLY THOUGH I THINK I AM! because it has been so long for this INCREDIBLE VOCALIST TO FINALLY GET HER DUE...I suggest to every hardcore Minnie Riperton fan .... please jump at this LIKE I DID ,when I first seen this up here I was in awe I quickly pre-ordered mine....I got mine today 05/07/2007 .... it was a joyous DAY i was definitly rockin to ISLAND IN THE SUN....omg so pretty :) makes the butterflys jump in your stomach
I tell you one thing .... her voice is the epitome of love and god she just makes you wanna fall in love over and over and over and over again, her voice is so pretty and beautiful...... you are just a blessing Minnie ...juss a blessin' , love ya'

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic!.......2004-05-11
I've been visiting this box-set often since picking it up a few months ago. Previous to this, I only had one Memphis Minnie disc, so the vast majority of this box was new to me. Memphis Minnie is truly one of the giants of pre-war blues, yet she seems to be somewhat forgotten. Her name doesn't often seem to roll off the tongues of even many of the people who have gotten beyond just Robert Johnson. Hopefully this low priced yet high quality collection will help fix that situation.
I think I have ten of these great JSP boxes so far, and this is one of the very best.
In the majority of current blues, lyrics are little more than an after thought. Just something to play a supporting role to the trite guitar wankery. The pre-war era was when blues lyrics actually had something to say, and Minnie's lyrics are an excellent window into not only herself, but also into the flipside of life (of that era) and blues... life and blues from the female perspective. Minnie would seem to be as rough and tumble as any of her male counterparts.
Guitaristically, the first major glimpse we get into her playing comes on Mister Tango Blues. Throughout this box it strikes me that Minnie may well have been a more influential guitarist than many of the more famous males of her time. She does things you can still hear people doing today. A compliment to Minnie, but yet another comment on the stale state of most blues today.
One of the things that makes this entire box such a joy is that Minnie's music is comprised of many different styles. Whereas someone like Blind Lemon Jefferson only really did a handful of different things and everything he did fell into those categories, Minnie does everything from low-down blues to more mournful songs illustrating the female perspective, to jaunty, goofily fun tunes, jugband stuff, etc...
If you're only interested in hearing her do When The Levee Breaks, this isn't the set for you, as it's not here. I e-mailed JSP before this box was released and they told me that it would be included on a Kansas Joe box instead. Considering how many Minnie and Joe tracks are on here, I'm not sure why that wasn't included also, but it's a small gripe considering the great price of these JSP boxes and that it it won't bother me to pick up the Joe box for Levee and all the other tracks they did together that were not included here.
This whole box is like a musical treasure chest. Beyond "Thank you Minnie and JSP!!!" I can't think of anything more to say.

One of a Kind Funny Lady Who Can Never Be Replaced .......2005-04-14
Who can forget Minnie Pearl? This great lady was one of the funniest people who ever walked on a stage and she was so endearing, not a trait one often finds in comedians. Listen to the samples and see if this CD doesn't bring you back decades ago to a more innocent world of good humor and good tidings.
