5 out of 5 stars A True Desert Island Disc.......2007-07-22

Quincy Jones' best album.
This is one of the great "concept" discs, based on the juke joints that served as makeshift nightclubs dotted across the landscape in the south in decades long gone by.
With a stellar cast of musicians as his instruments, Quincy literally creates the atmosphere of his own juke joint in track 1 and then runs with a gorgeous, beat filled hour non-stop after that.
The sound quality is fabulous - let it roll over you with the lights low and it will transport you to another time and with its energy and rhythms
I've purchased two copies of this CD for myself, given two as gifts and, of course, have it on my iPod.
Everyone I've turned on to this album has thanked me.
Highest recommendation. Its just great.

5 out of 5 stars Q's jook joint.......2007-02-05

this is my second copy of this c.d. i bought it skeptically when it first came out just because of all the diverse artists that were listed. there is not a bad, or "filler" song on this album. it is timeless.

5 out of 5 stars QUINCY'S GREATEST WORK.......2007-01-13

I LOVE THIS CD SO MUCH THAT, I HAVE PURCHASED IT TWICE. THE SONGS ARE TIMELESS. MY FRIENDS OFTEN COMMENT WHEN THEY HEAR THE CD PLAYING IN MY HOME. MY FIRST CD WAS DAMAGED AFTER YEARS OF USE, SO I HAD TO PURCHASE IT A SECOND TIME, AND IT IS MONEY WELL SPENT. THIS IS A VALUED ADDITION TO MY MUSIC COLLECTION.

5 out of 5 stars Jook Joint Still Jumps!.......2006-11-10

Reworked oldies have added vigor and zip. Quincy is truly a giver! Tones and melodies are racked with subtle and beautiful overlays. Album is still lovely in 2006!

a thoroughly enjoyable session--a huge bouquet of musical blossoms ripe and sensual--each flower captivating, moving, memorable and beautiful. old soul, classic jazz, the kings and queens--our royalty of musicians--they're all there just inside the door which opens up this cd.

what a pleaure, what a joy to be invited, to open it up and enjoy all the folks who came "that night". thanks quincy!

Mr. Quincy Jones... I will never forget my one chance meeting with "Q" back in the early 1990's, in an elevator at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center based in Los Angeles, California the largest nonprofit hospital in the western United States. I believe he was visiting his ill mother at the time or maybe it was for personal reason...if my memory services me well... "AnyWay," for me it was a moment frozen in time and he was very cool and so was I too (careful not to freak him out...), so I took the one and only opportunity after our friendly encounter and greeting and asked him so what really is the key to music? He kindly replied, as he held the elevator doors for a second before exiting... "Melody my friend, Melody is KING! That's one reason why I have every record/ CD from Q in my collection...

4 out of 5 stars Ray Charles..........2005-02-08

You can hear Ray Charles do "Let the Good Times Roll" on this album. When you do, you'll know that he left this earth vigorous and just as full of music as ever.

There is nothing like a big band. Nothing. And I do not remember hearing one with quite the same punch as the one Q puts together for this album. Yes, as indicated by some of the other reviews, there is a problem with consistency on this one, but that is more than overmatched by the unusual and entertaining performances you get with it.

Hey everybody, Ray Charles is in town...

Yeah this CD has it all you're looking for. A blend of jazz, R&B, soul, funk, blues, hip-hop, you name it. It has everybody from Brandy, Brian McKnight, Ron Isley (aka Mr. Biggs), R. Kelly, Tamia, Phil Collins, the late Ray Charles (R.I.P.), the late Barry White (R.I.P.), Take 6, Tone-Loc, Stevie Wonder, Queen Latifah, James Moody, just to name a few.

This album you can't live without 'cuz I don't why nobody would buy it or enjoy it. This CD is good. It shows a new direction in the black music industry. My man Quincy will be rockin' it when a lot of guest appearances or collabos I say. This album appears to be his best work yet since 1989's BACK ON THE BLOCK.

I highly recommend this CD in addition to Guru's JAZZMATAZZ, VOL. 1, Grover Washington, Jr.'s THE BEST OF GROVER WASHINGTON, JR., Alicia Keys' SONGS IN A MINOR and THE DIARY OF ALICIA KEYS, Mary J. Blige's LOVE AND LIFE, Kanye West's THE COLLEGE DROPOUT, Twista's KAMIKAZE, Outkast's SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW, Nas' THE STREET'S DISCIPLE, Quincy Jones' BACK ON THE BLOCK, just to name a few albums or so.

3 out of 5 stars Several Highlights.......2004-07-30

Tamia. "You Put a Move on My Heart." The highlight of this CD. By Far.

R. Kelly's "Heaven's Girl" is also quite nice, as is the Phil Collins track ("Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me.) The rest is acceptable, but mostly unremarkable.
