This CD was great. You can play the whole thing straight through without having to skip any songs. Nowadays that rarely is the case.

This is one of his best cd's. You really have to listen to the words on the cd, he takes you to whole another level. He is one of the best r&b singers ever, just close your eyes and listen to the song "maybe" and think of that special place for you and your lady.

By itself, Will's velvet-smooth and truly superior cover version of Michael Jackson's hit "I Can't Help It" more than justifies the entire CD's price--it's an ever-beautiful gem you'll return to time and again. This gorgeous CD proves that Will is a true crooner in every sense of the word.

Will, Will, Will!!!! I have been his #1 fan for the past 14 years, have met him twice.....got that coveted signed photo, but Will still never stops astounding me with his musical talent! Will is the master of the re-make....from Angela Bofill, Marvin Gaye, and Bonnie Raitt....and now, Michael Jackson, and Average White Band! He has taken these songs and bought a whole new meaning to each of them. I will forever love him for this ability!!!

My favorite on the cd is Bolero Nova....Thank you for bringing it "there", Will.....That voice and Brazilian rhythms at the same time! Ohhh, pure Heaven!!!

This CD is the kind of CD you put in the player, get in the tub and soak to. It's just wonderful!!! If you have not seen him live, you really need to do so. He sounds awesome on his recordings, but live he is 1,000 times better.

When you please a woman, I can guarantee she will want to please you even more. This album has an amazing song that speaks to the heart and is the truth through and through.

Will Downing's deeply sensuous jazzy style infuses this album with comfort. I love everything he sings about and when I want to relax at night this music is pure dreamy. Whether you are taking a long bath or giving your lover a massage, this music is especially comforting. I don't know, I kinda like to keep his music all to myself. ;)

The entire sensuous and romantic album is deeply thoughtful and caring. If more men said the things Will Downing says in his songs there would be a heck of a lot of happy women on the earth. I love the thunderstorm in "Every Time it Rains."

To me at least, this music is hopelessly romantic but has a manly edge that is especially attractive. I could listen to this music all night, which seems to be what I'm doing...

Will Downing has been around for a LONG time. Entering his 18th year in the business, Downing continues to keep his name out there despite the fame and fortune that others have gotten. Making good music and sharing it with the fans that he does have seems to be the main focus for Will Downing. After accumulating 12 albums over the years, it's a daunting task to select the best of the best for a snapshot collection that will only feature 12 songs. 20th Centery Masters' Millenium Collection for Will Downing does fairly well in picking out the best songs for the compilation. And like many other collections in this product line, it is not meant to be a definitive collection that has all of his hits to date.

For the casual fan of Will Downing, the Millenium Collection does its job. It has signature songs like the wonderful duet with Rachelle Farrell "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This" and his spectacular covers of Rose Royce's "Wishing On A Star," Angela Bofill's "I Try," Deniece Williams' "Free," and Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me." His song "Stop, Look, Listen To Your Heart" was a standout from the Pleasures of the Night album with Gerald Albright. It even includes his later hits like "Cool Water" from 2002's Sensual Journey, "A Million Ways" from 2003's Emotions and the fantastic ballad "Crazy Love" from his latest studio album Soul Symphony.

If you wanted the absolute best cuts from his career, then Will Downing's Millenium Collection is a good starter album. But take it from a fan who owns EVERY Will Downing album (including his Christmas, Love and You holiday album), you certainly don't want to stop there because there is much more to Will Downing than the 12 cuts on this collection.

While by no means comprehensive or definitive, this budget-priced CD of Mr. Downing's work serves as a fine introduction for anyone discovering this great crooner's music for the first time. His best CDs ("Moods", "A Dream Fulfilled", "Invitation Only", "Sensual Journey" and the simply timeless "Love's The Place To Be") are all still available, however, and will make you a fan of this velvet-smooth crooner and are better choices.

This first pairing of R&B song stylist Downing with soulful sax man Albright is nothing short of inspired, providing two of the '80s' most popular performers with a chance to showcase their jazz chops. On this fantastic CD, Will Downing and Gerald Albright took romantic Soul to new heights. The combination of Will's velvet-smooth vocals and Albright's smooth and elegant sax playing makes for some heavenly romantic music that's guaranteed to put you in the mood for love and romance. "The Nearness of You", "Like A Lover" and the title track are true masterpieces.

Iv'e had this album for a while, and i never get tired of it. Beware, if you dont want any babies, dont play this cd for that "special night" with the wife or husband. even the damn intro will get you in the mood. i have never enjoyed a cd quite as much as this one.

The stylistic's cover "stop, look, and listen," is quite impressive, while "here's that rainy day" will put you into a trance from the first 5 seconds

the only problem that i have with it is that it is too short........

"Angel", "Island", "If She Knew" and "When Sunny Gets Blue" are among the most heartfelt and romantic soul ballads recently recorded. Will Downing's ultra-smooth baritone voice instantly puts you in a romantic mood. Wether you listen to this CD in the wee hours of the morning at your local cocktail lounge or while having a candlelight dinner with a special someone or during lovemaking it is sure to please. This is one invitation I'll gladly accept time and time again.

I got this album back in 1998 for V-tines Day and it still is among my top favorites. I go back and listen to it quite often and even play it at work. Eternal Love and Island are among my top fav's but this is a MOOD SETTER...be cautious LOL!!

I really did not begin to appreciate the talent of Will Downing until recently, although I have always heard and listened to his music....But lately I have really begun to enjoy and appreciate what he has to offer. I love this CD!!!! His voice is so soothing, no matter what your mood is, listening to this CD will definitely relax you...In my opinion the first 4 songs are the best, but the entire CD is great! My favorite of all is "All about you"....... I just ordered two more of his CD's...

He was scheduled for a concert here in Philly two weeks ago, but cancelled due to illness. I look forward to his return....

Jazzy and Soulful/Smooth and Classy........Listening to this CD is a cleansing, de-stressing experience. When I first heard the song "Island" on New York's CD 101.9, I knew that the rest of this CD was a "must have" - especially when it was announced that the title of the CD was "BY INVITATION ONLY". This CD truly lives up to this title........it is an invitation to be transported from fast living, daily job/career pressures to something soothing, pleasurable, and quiet, romantic thoughts. For all of my fellow Old School R&B listeners, take note of Will Downing's version "I Don't Want to Lose You"........one of the song that will be a true Will Downing trademark but at the same time keeps the spirit of the "Stylistics" classic.

This is one on the very short list of classic recordings....yes, music should not be labeled! (Apparently Ellington once said that when you categorize music, then it becomes dated.)

A romantic and very listenable theme throughout. No schmaltz here...just burning love.

Get this and "Ben Webster Plays Ballads" and you and your female significant other will have no reason to leave the house.

By itself, Will's ultra-smooth, melancholic and jazzy rendition of "Stella By Starlight" is a true vocal masterpiece from one of today's best but most underexposed crooners. "Moods" is a gorgeous CD on which Will's growth as a singer/songwriter continues smoothly. Other standout numbers include "Sorry, I", "Don't Wait For Love" and "Where Is Love?". Only "Just Hold On" (a slightly-overproduced beat ballad) sounds out of place with the CD's other tracks. Will Downing deserves to be a major superstar--he is most certainly one of today's best crooners.

Mood music doesn't get much better than this. "Moods" is arguably Will Downing's finest LP. Featuring lush, gorgeous musical backdrops and some of his finest vocals, this is truly "grown folks music", refreshingly devoid of raps, heavy beats, profanity and sexually explicit language. Of special note is a great guest appearance by the legendary Jonathan Butler (whom I had the pleasure of meeting backstage on his last tour)who contributes guitar and flawless scat vocals to the Latin-tinged "Don't Wait For Love". There is not a single wasted note here and fans of 'smooth jazz' will be in absolute heaven. "Moods" is a fine collection of songs that's highlighted by his mellow remake of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" and a perfect balance of love, devotion and understated sensuality. A Classic.

Will Downing has been doing his thing for a number of years now, and on each album, you were able to enjoy the way his tenor vocals glide along the nice lyrics. And his latest offering, Soul Symphony, continues that quality.

This album has nine tracks, but it's over 40 minutes, so I don't know if you should call it an EP or a true CD, but at any rate, there are great songs like "Put Me On", "A Promise" and "Make Time For Love". And while some people may not like the uptempo "Soul Steppin'", I think it still works. The only song I didn't really care for was the corny "Will Still Loves You". And even though he did a great job on his remake of "Superstar", I'm starting to get tired of people covering that song. But Soul Symphony will still take you on a wonderful musical journey.

I am not at all surprised by his artistry. If I have anything negative to say about the cd (it's just that the tracks/cd were too short), you will never get tired of listening to this cd. For me I enjoy putting a cd in and leaving it to play! And this is that!

This CD is a symphony for your ears. This is by far one of his best! It has a little something for everyone. A lot of soul, a little mellow jazz, romance and a few upbeat tempos. Ultimately this is a CD to have when you just want to chill but need a little spice added just to say woooo---ah!

"I understand how you feel..."

I was looking for something to listen to late at night and Will Downing's voice is especially soothing. The first song is a classy invitation to fall into his voice and relax. The music is romantic and soul soothing.

Like a deep happy sigh of pleasure, his singing is an embrace and a musical kiss. I love the lyrics and the message of love they convey. Sexy, silky and definitely the music to listen to late at night when you are in a jazzy, classic soul mood.

"I love you, I really do..."

There are few songs that say what I want to hear and this album is filled with
such romantic beauty. mmm, he is so smooth. He knows how to speak to the heart.

"You hold a special place in this heart of mine..."

Women want to be cherished and this delivers.

Will Downing is that artist I always make sure I buy his CD's. Ever since my mother took me to see Rachel Farrell perform, I've been a fan of Will's. He is simply one of the most talented males singers out there, and Soul Symphony is the kind of CD you put in your CD player and it can play, and play and play. There is not one bad cut on this CD. Not one!! Usually my reviews have a break down of the cuts I really like, but I can't find one cut on this CD that stands out. I simply put this CD in my player, put it on shuffle and I'm a happy woman.

Even though no one song is my favorite the one that does standout is Will Still Loves you.

So here's a message to the ladies out there

I let Will Still Loves you play about 10 times straight; I just loved the song so much. It's because of lyrics like that I've become such a fan. I had the opportunity to see him perform live in Atlanta one afternoon, and he is simply a phenomenal artist. He is so smooth.

Will sings true love songs. If someone romances me, they know Will Downing is the artist to have in the CD player. No one else will do. When Will sings, his voice simply seeps into my soul, and I just surrender to his voice. My only complaint 9 cuts are not enough!!! While the 9 songs are excellent quality songs, I say we should have gotten a minimum of 12. This CD simply ends too soon, but it's still a good one. His cover of Luther Vandross Superstar had to have Luther smiling down from Heaven. Will is one of my favorite artist, and he is the artist I play when I need a break from the usual R&B and Hip Hop that is being played. This is one CD you won't regret purchasing, and once you do be prepared to play if over and over again.

will downing has allways enchanted me with the intense soulfullness he sings.no one can tough him on that account.he is THE MAN!now i don't have all of his work but most of it and i must say this album keeps giving and giving!the production is so timeless it will outlast all of his work i think!masterpeaces like the world is a ghetto and something's going on are brilliant,just like she and the standard for all we know!this guy is the 20th century johnny heartmann!

This was Will's third CD and (unapolagetically) a very jazzy one. "I Go Crazy", "She", "I Try" and "I'll Wait" are the standout numbers but the other six songs are not bad either. This CD set a prototype for the equally superb follow-ups "Moods" and "Love's The Place To Be". A jazz balladeer who deserves better.

I have been a fan of Will's for quite some time. I'm a singer as well, so hearing this album solidified me as a Will Downing fanatic. I must admit the only song that I didn't like on this CD was and still to this day is "The World Is a Ghetto". Nothing to do with his voice just the lyric content turned me completely off. "I Tried" the Angela Bofil classic leaves no comparison when Will's smooth lush vocals delicatley lay on those words. I then knew what inflections and pitch and great singing was all about. For any upcoming gig I have to play this is one to get me going. I'm honored to even write this, so please listen for yourself. If you are a singer of any sort or not, your spirit will be moved. I can't wait for the new CD that will be out next week. Peace/within

Will Downing has never made a bad album but this one is my all-time favorite. Will's jazzy and liquid baritone is at its best on such Quiet Storm gems as "Sailing On A Dream", "One Moment", "Lover's Paradise" and "That's All". The unabashedly jazzy title track is my personal favorite Will Downing track (still sends chills up and down my spine!) If you are into REAL music that will touch your heart and soul then waste no time in buying and enjoying this CD.

I, like the other reviewers have all of Will Downing's cd's. This one and Invitation Only are a tie for my all time favorite Will Downing cd's. There is not one throw away cut on this entire cd. There's No Living Without You sets the stage for the entire project. The title, "Love's The Place to Be" with Bob Baldwin on piano is indeed a treat. My all time favorite duet, Rachelle Ferrell and Will Downing on "Nothing Has Ever.." is indeed a classic as far as love songs go. His remake of "Break Up To Make Up" breathes new life into a song that I have always loved. Equally as impressive are "Hey Girl" and "That's All." The promises he sings about are heartfelt and it is a shame that he does not get the recognition he so richly deserves. This cd is on my top 10 list of all time favorite cd/albums. Include this project and you will be more than pleasantly surprised. He is one of the most romantic singers of our time.

I purchased this CD in 1994. Will Downing is wonderful. I own all of his CDs and I love them all, espeically this one and Moods. He is such a talented artist. The songs Nothing Has Ever Felt featuring Rachelle Ferrell, Love's The Place To Be, Lover's Paradise, Break Up To Make Up and especially Hey Girl are my favorites on this CD. Buy It, it's definitely worth the purchase.

The art of Smooth Seduction is in good hands. Will Downing masterfully displays his awesome musical ability. His respect and approach to the lyrical content with great respect to the melody is by far second to none. " A Million Ways To Please A Woman" Will says it all buy the CD get out your pen and paper get a nice glass of wine and do your homework.

Prime Cuts: Hey There Lonely Girl, Beautiful to Me, A Million Ways

Hailed as the avatar of sensuality, Downing's 11th album "Emotions" continues to accost the rabid admiration of the hopelessly romantic. Accompanied by a cadre of laureate such as Norman Brown, George Duke, Kirk Whalum and Nicholas Payton, Downing continues to execute his trademark soulful tenor over some of the most quixotic musical expeditions. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Downing has resisted the cusp of commercial allure by not giving in to the beeps of the hip hop shenanigans. Rather, what we have here are 10 solid soulful numbers with a tilt towards modern smooth jazz. Ironically, "Emotions" is also one of Downings most successful albums of late, making its way to the number 2 position on Billboard's Modern Jazz album chart as well as bowing at number 9 on the R&B/Hip Hop album chart.

Without a doubt, "Hey There Lonely Girl" is easily the highlight. Abetted by the smooth vibes of tenor saxophonist Kirk Whalum, "Hey There Lonely Girl" is a milquetoast romantic invite from an earnest Downing over a gorgeous melody. Corollary to that, "Riding on a Cloud," a ballad coming from the pens of Barry Eastmond and Gordon Chambers, finds Downing on cloud nine basking in love's delight. For aficionados of Downings' late night love ballads such as "Maybe" from his "Sensual Journey" CD, "Falling in Love with Me" is sultry, sexy and warm. Love again is the theme of "Beautiful to Me," but this time we find Downing pouring out his heart to his daughter on this ode of paternal affection. Such benevolent affirmation from a father to his daughter is certainly much called for in this culture of the disintegration of the family.

On the uptempo side, lead single "A Million Ways" shows Downing's keening awareness of the opposite sex as he rightly points out that a woman's happiness is not restricted just to the bedroom. This is a much needed to hear advice from those who think that women are from Venus. Norman Brown adds his plush backing vocals to the easy going "King of Fools." As Downing has been known for his share of covers, this time two are included. "Anytime," a track from Janet Jackson's sex charged "Velvet Rope" CD, is perhaps an uncanny choice. Sad to say, Downing has blatantly tried to transposed Jackson's eroticism over with lustful moans which are uncalled for. Also, "Anytime" does not carry the same weight melodically as some of Downings' other covers (such as brother Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It"). "Daydreaming" is the other cover this time from the Aretha Franklin. Compared to the Queen of Soul's spirited version, Downings' cover sounds tautological.

Nevertheless, for fans of smooth jazz and those who like R&B ballads, this is a collection great tunes from a seasoned artist who speaks the language of love with fresh argots and with an accent eloquent with sincerity. Thanks are in order to GRP Records for allowing Downing to advance his vision of music without concessions to the frivolity of today's music.

THIS BROTHA AINT NO JOKE! ALL OF HIS ALBUMS ARE NOTHING BUT SOOTHING FOR THE SOUL. I OWN ALL OF HIS CDS EXCEPT FOR HIS FIRST TWO WHICH I AM WORKING ON,..EVEN HIS MOST RECENT CHRISTMAS CD WHICH IS BETTER THAN HIS LAST TWO CD'S(EMOTIONS, AND SENSUAL JOURNEY). NOW U KNOW THAT IS DARN SUPERB FOR A CHRISTMAS CD.. THE WAY HE SINGS AND FLOWS ON HIS CHRISTMAS CD IS REMINDS ME MUCH OF HOW HE FLOWS, SINGS AND HITS ALL NOTES ON THE SCALE SHOWING OFF HIS SKILLS AS HE DID ON HIS INVITATION ONLY CD.. WHICH IS HIS BEST EVER IN MY OPINION! NOT TO TAKE AWAY ANYTHING FROM HIS GREATER THAN GREAT PERFORMANCES ON HIS LAST TWO CDS.. BUT I LIKE HIS EARLIER ALBUMS. THE WAY THAT HE SINGS ON THOSE WERE JUST SO MUCH MORE PRETTIER (SHOWING OFF HIS SKILLZ-RANGE) I UNDERSTAND THAT HE'S TRYING TO ACHIEVE CERTAIN LEVELS A FAR AS RECOGNITION AND A BIGGER AUDIENCE, BUT I THINK THAT WILL SHOULD MAYBE FOCUS MORE ON THE AUDIENCE THAT GOT HIM WHERE HE IS TODAY.. HIS ORIGIONAL ADULT FAN BASE. IF THESE NEWJACKS ARENT READY FOR HIM, THEN THEY'LL JUST MISS OUT.. THEY'LL CATCH UP TO HIM SOONER OR LATER. (HOPEFULLY SOONER) BUT AGAIN.. NO KNOCK.. yeah.... this brotha never changes his formula. always smooth, always on target no interludes, no filler, just straight ahead good music. hes in a class with frankie beverly, or luther vandross. always guaranteed to make a "listenable all the way through" album. ummm huh!
