One of the '70's Best.......2006-01-13
Mandrill had it all...slick horn rifts, funky lyrics and stage presence. The group, led by saxophonist Rick Wilson, MD (a real physician)kept the clubs jumping with cuts like "Mango Meat" (Let's go to La La La),"Fencewalk" and ""Hang Loose".
When you listen to these cuts, you hear musicianship that I think is quite superior to some of their contemporaries like Brass Construction. But like many of the bands of that era, they just faded away!
This is definetly the album to get if you want a taste of all that Mandrill had to offer.

Funk At It's Best.......2005-09-16
If your a fan of true funk music, then this CD is a must have. This band would be a good purchase for any P-FUNK or WAR fans.

Mandrill were a very early (formed in 1968) progressive rock/jazz/funk/latin American band, perhaps best described in retrospect as Afro Prog. This collection, while a solid collection of tunes, does not do justice to that pioneering progressive rock aspect of their music. The closest example here is Children of the Sun. If you just want their great funk tunes though, this is the CD to buy! If you want a better example of their unique approach to prog then get either their first album, with the 17 minute Peace and Love suite or the second album, Is.
black rock in full efx.......2003-02-13
If you love black rock from the old school this is a must have only earth, wind, and fire and parliament-funkadelic can stomp these badboys to the ground, every song is a funk-rock classic and it's a must have for those who miss this style.
The best album to own.......2002-10-07
Little known, often forgotten Brooklyn band that kicks out soul, jazz, rock, r&b, latin grooves like its no big thing...these guys still rock strong...saw them perform in 2000 and 2001...the best shows I have seen live. Unfortunately, they don't make 'em like these guys anymore! Pick up this CD for a great introduction to some essential listening....
