Brad Paisley's previous release, Mud on the Tires, was the sort of landmark album nearly every artist has difficulty topping. Not so this time. On Time Well Wasted, Paisley's voice--never overwhelmed by overmixed instruments (a problem dogging many current vocalists)--remains keenly focused. There's quality material in abundance, heavy on originals and delightfully quirky bonus tracks. The album's first hit, Paisley's self-penned "Alcohol," has the potential to become a lasting anthem in a genre where booze songs long ago became an art form. Guy Clark's "Out in the Parkin' Lot," a duet with Alan Jackson, sounds more organic, less contrived than most Music Row pairings. The same applies to "When I Get Where I'm Going," a spiritual duet with Dolly Parton. As in the past, Paisley's country-jazz Telecaster prowess (phemonenal on the dazzling instrumental "Time Warp") remains remarkable, as does his insistence that his sidemen get ample space to shine. Such assets set Paisley apart, as does his ability to make real creativity commercially successful in a Nashville concerned mainly with the latter. --Rich Kienzle

Almost Perfect.......2007-08-04

I really like this guy, as he is as near to real country that we are going to find in this pop crazed culture. Good songs: When I Get to Where I'm Going, The World, Waiting on a Woman. I know so many people love She's Everything, and I appreciate the sincerity, but it just doesn't work for me. You Need a Man Around Here is funny, but not his best. Those are my only two complaints. His guitar work is even better here than on his previous records, and that is saying a whole lot, because the man can jam. It's worth getting--especially if you are a huge fan. Brad isn't perfect, but who is? He comes darned close in his music!

Another Fine Piece of Music for Your Collection.......2007-07-19

This is a very diverse CD with some great music that should be a welcome addition to anyone's music collection. Brad's unique sense of humor always comes through in his music and make his CDs fun to listen to. A nice mix of the fun and serious lyrics that keep you listening over and over. Another great piece of work by Mr. Paisley.
If you have not seen him in concert it is a real treat - he is a master musician and his wonderful sense of humor makes your concert experience a fun one.

When I first saw Brad Paisley I thought he was a hayseed singer with a hat too big for his head. That was though until he opened his mouth and sang. He has a warm honey voice that throughly enjoyable to listen to. This CD is varied with ballads, up-tempo to humorous. His funny songs are a favorite of mine. I don't think anyone will be disappointed in this CD

"If, after hearing my songs," Lehrer says in this disc's liner notes, "just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend, or perhaps strike a loved one, it will all have been worth the while." Makes him sound like a modern punk, eh? Not so, though. Lehrer, ever the king of jolly vitriol, recorded these still potent parodies in the '50s--and the best of them, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," "The Masochism Tango," and "The Elements" (which joins science with Gilbert & Sullivan) remain both nasty and striking. Musically, Lehrer comes across like a demented Cole Porter, wrapping sophisticated, showy tunes around his acerbic jokes. Lyrically, he's a clear forebear to folks like Phil Ochs and Barry Crimmins, who also cloak their commentary in comedy. --Michael Ruby

Tom Lehrer is a bit of late find for me. But having discovered his bountiful vineyard, I am drinking him down to the dregs.

Lehrer's brand of knowing, culturally-savvy and savage wit are are on moderate display in this collection. There are the classics ("Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" and "The Elements"), plenty of little-known but sparkling gems, but a weak piece or two ("Bright College Days" and "She's My Girl") that have little to say. Lehrer's wit is dry and self-deprecatory, and his music is best when it lampoons the excesses of his age or when it hilariously upends a cherished piece of culture. "Oedipus Rex" is a terrific piece that presumes (rightly, as far as it late-1950s audience went) a certain familiarity with the classics. The leering repeated tag line about the king "who REALLY loved his mother" is still eyebrow-archingly naughty today. "It Makes a Fellow Proud to be a Soldier" is Lehrer's reflection on the odd set of misfits, morons and maniacs whom he met on a stint in the Army. "We Will All Go Together When We Go," one of the more topical of his works, could be considered a pre-antiwar song, putting a comic face on the global annihilation promised by "The Bomb." With lines like, "When the air becomes uraneous, we will all go simultaneous," Lehrer shows how nuclear war, for all its ability to terrify, is fundamentally ludicrous and perhaps worthy of opposition.

Other pieces have less topical import, but showcase Lehrer's piano virtuosity. After shredding the value of banal folk tunes like "Clementine," Lehrer demonstrates how the old standard would have been played by Cole Porter, Mozart and one of the "cool" composers of the Beat era. While he is at it, he conveys his own unfortunate bias against modern music. Poised as he is on the cusp of the decline of classical music and the advent of rock, Lehrer is none too respectful of the new genre, sneeringly referring to it as "childrens' music." Even in 1959, this sentiment met with subdued laughter and only polite applause. At age 30, Lehrer's musical heros (Gilbert and Sullivan, among them) were quickly becoming irrelevant, and he can appear as a bit of a fusty dinosaur. But never mind that. For every knock-out punch that doesn't connect, there are ten that do. "Masochism Tango" is still freakish, nearly 40 years after it was written. The writer of "The last time I needed twenty stitches to sew up the gash, that you made with your lash" is no homebody, by the standards of his time or of our own.

Lehrer loosened up quite a bit between this offering and the later "That Was the Week That Was," where his political wit and insight were most fully developed. Yet this collection is quite worthwhile in its own way, featuring Lehrer's tight lyrics and musical versatility. Hearing the reaction of the audience is definitely a plus. It's fun to hear what made a 1959 audience howl -- even jokes that are obvious and lame by today's standards were evidently quite fresh a half-century ago.

When this recording hit the streets, Tom Lehrer's short career had yet to peak, and his best output was still ahead of him. Pity that voices like his have been so rare. Happy are we who can appreciate, and perhaps hope to emulate, his style and outlook!

Tom Lehrer was the most brilliant song satirist of the 20th century. This live album features the same songs that were on his studio album "More of Tom Lehrer". But this album arguably is better than that one, since you get to hear Lehrer's introductions to the songs, as well as the audience reactions. Anyway, this is a very funny album, and it's a "must get" for fans of musical comedy.

Lehrer is hilarious!.......2005-12-30

This CD is hilarious! How can you possibly deny the genius of tunes like "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" ("When they see us coming the birdies all try and hide, but they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide"...) or "The Elements" (the periodic table set to Gilbert and Sullivan, as you probably know by now). Lehrer's black humor and commentary always makes me laugh when I pop this disc into my player, and as an added bonus, this is a live disc, so we are treated to Lehrer's monologues as well as his songs, which are usually just as funny as his songs, if not more so. Highlights include the story of Dr. Samuel Gall, inventor of the gallbladder, and a bit about his friend Henry ("He spelled his name H-E-N-3-R-Y. The 3 was silent, you see"...)who wrote novels ("about a young necrophiliac who finally achieved his boyhood ambition by becoming coroner").
Even though these tunes were written in 1959, they haven't dated, and still remain as fresh and funny today as they were 46 years ago. If you enjoy black humor, and like to laugh, what are you waiting for? Buy this, and/or any other album by Tom Lehrer, today!

Quality always holds up........2004-07-16

One reason why the great songs of Tom Lehrer hold up after all these decades is that some of the issues they cover have not gone away. The Cold War may be over, but the weapons remain. And anyway there are other ways Armegeddon may arrive. Misunderstanding between the sexes will never vanish.

But I think the real reason Tom Lehrer's "An Evening Wasted..." has held up so well for so long is that his humor and craft are top quality. We still read Mark Twain's acerbic satires. Will Rogers is still an American icon, while others have come and gone. And in the tradition of Twain and Rogers, Lehrer, while commenting on contemporary conditions, takes them and twists them in a way that is nothing short of brilliant. And, without realizing it, has given us a better understanding of his times, while making us laugh (or weep) at ours.

Forget all that heavy stuff: this is just a darned funny collection!

A day after I saw these girls live in Minneapolis... I know I will be a life long fan. Brilliance is not a strong enough adjective to describe this trio of 60's Motown throwback polka-dotted daisies. Song after song they bring back a style that could use new era resurrection. Catchy songs that seem simple and yet have been crafted perfectly to fish fans of young and old. These girls are not your average hipster indie band. They are radio ready and have yet to crack it outside the UK. They are primed to take over... They are the Pipettes.

Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me is a buoyant four-song precursor to The Pipettes' upcoming US album simply titled We Are The Pipettes, due to hit our shores on August 28th, which was released last year overseas to great critical acclaim, and even greater public support, which is just what The Pipettes want.

"We're not fussy indie snobs. Our main objective is mass appeal. We just don't fit in with the current pop mainstream, but that's because somewhere along the line, a misconception has occurred that makes people think pop can't be made by people like us, that manufactured pop is the only kind of pop there is. That's wrong. We need to fix that," says Rose, one of the three Pipette singers.

And that seems to be exactly what they're doing. Somehow, The Pipettes, that's Rosay, Gwenno, and RiotBecki to you, with their backup band The Cassettes, has managed to rejuvenate peppy 60's pop music, while at the same time injecting it with a strong sense of modernism, as well as a hip indie rock side that somehow comes through amidst the bubblegum pop and polka-dotted dresses. They've been called a hipper Spice Girls, and while the comparison is clever I'd say they're more of a grown up Atomic Kitten or even a female Weezer, with short, sweet songs set to uptempo beats.

With no song on the EP reaching the three minute mark, The Pipettes make it clear that they're here to throw out some catchy tunes and harmonies and then move on. As true members of the ADHD generation, the Pipettes aren't asking their audience to have a longer attention span than they have. Taking the stage like a new line of Polka-Dot Barbie Dolls, these girls seem to have a knowing, winking attitude towards the audience, letting everyone know that they're in on the joke, although joke may be too strong of a word. The Pipettes are definitely a serious, dedicated band, striving to make quality music, but they're just here to make you dance, not to make you think.

In these days of the crossover, it is hardly surprising to find two great opera singers making a foray into numbers from Broadway musicals by such composers as Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. What's remarkable is that they seem completely at home in this music. Both say they grew up listening to it, and indeed they approach these songs with no less care and seriousness than they'd give the most demanding operatic arias, and without a trace of condescension. However, their vocal, expressive, and interpretive styles are very different, both in the solos and the duets. Terfel projects assertive manliness, tender, intimate affection, and rollicking humor without external effects, using only his incomparably sonorous voice and powerful personality. His diction is impeccably clear, and though he has sometimes let his theatrical flair spill over into Schubert songs, he is the soul of simplicity here. This is in stark contrast to Fleming's tendency to exaggerate colors and dynamics and to turn sentiment into sentimentality. Moreover, though she claims a background as a jazz singer, her "crooning" sounds artificial and unnatural. However, her top notes, culminating in a triumphant high C at the end of the final number, ring gloriously. Her voice glows and shimmers with irresistible luster, soaring from seductive whispers to thrilling climaxes. The program features a great variety of love songs, and includes an antiwar protest (from Beautiful Game), a celebration of the American dream (from Ragtime), and a rousing fun piece (from The Music Man). Unfortunately, even the best songs are marred by thoroughly corny arrangements. Listeners will find their own favorites, but the real "stars" on this record are the two singers. --Edith Eisler

I truly enjoy Terfel's vocal talent and found it to be well suited for this genre. Fleming's impeccable soprano voice is a bit overpowering for this style of music. (I own this CD)

A Master Class in Singing.......2006-06-20

This CD is a must-have for any person interested in the singing art. Ms. Fleming and Mr. Terfel gives new light to these Musical Theatre classics. Their fine vocalism in the musical theatre genre coupled with the depth of musicality and dramatic phrasing in each of the selections is truly a breath of fresh air. This recording is indeed a Master Class!

Bryn is swell, but the bombast is annoying.......2006-05-03

Love Bryn Terfel, the finest bass-baritone in Opera. Love Renee Fleming's luscious soprano. But the arrangements! Kettle drums and bombast and bang, bang, bang! Once Renee starts swooping, things go downhill, with little redemption.

It starts out beautifully. "Not While I'm Around" has never sounded more intimate to me than Terfel's caressing pianissimo. Fleming's "Moonglow" is stunningly good. Terfel makes a medley out of "I Don't Remember You and Sometimes a Day Goes By" that makes you want to cheer, and Fleming does a lovely Sondheim medley as well. Bryn sings "Stars" and makes me long for him in Les Mis. And then...things tend to go downhill. The bombast takes over and gets to you - it overwhelms two of the biggest voices now recording. Then Fleming begins to swoop and scoop, over-coloring and often coming off as simply self-indulgent, reminding one of a kid who makes a point of putting his face in a camera shot.

I don't mind Bryn as Prof. Harold Hill - I frankly think the Welsh accent is kinda cute - and it doesn't bother me on "Wheels of Dream," either, but Fleming seems to have lost her mind on that great song, and rather than indulging her, it would have simply been better left off the album. Ditto "All that Wasted Time" which is pretty much unlistenable. Ms. Fleming needs to stop thinking she is a jazz singer.

The four stars are because this album does contain some truly GLORIOUS moments, particularly in the duets, and in Terfel's solo's which are warm and memorable. Without him, the kettle drums and Fleming's self-indulgence would have made the whole endeavor unbearable.

Surprisingly Fine Crossover from Fleming and Terfel.......2006-04-18

Bryn Terfel and Renee Fleming are two of the most acclaimed opera singers of our day. But the musical theatre fan who puts on their Broadway CD, RENEE AND BRYN: UNDER THE STARS, expecting to hear a carelessly compiled hodgepodge of songs sung by voices ill-suited to them is in for a big surprise, beginning with the first phrases of the duo's warmly sung "Not While I'm Around" from SWEENEY TODD. True, these singers' beautiful voices have greater power and range than even the best of the Broadway stars', but this is an asset in these songs, most of which are either semi-operatic in nature or call (like THE MUSIC MAN's "Seventy-Six Trombones") for such an outsize personality as Terfel's. Fleming's sensuous and tonally gorgeous rendition of "Moonfall" from THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD can be placed among her very finest recordings, operatic and otherwise. And Terfel is ideally suited to both "Pretty Women" from SWEENEY TODD and "Stars" from LES MISERABLES; few if any Broadway Javerts could match the impact of his "This I swear by the stars!" Kander and Ebb's "I Don't Remember You" and "Sometimes a Day Goes By" make a perfect medley here, as do Sondheim's "I Wish I Could Forget You" and "Loving You" from PASSION. And though I don't care for the Andrew Lloyd Webber selections (ersatz Puccini) or the Jason Robert Brown one (which sounds too much like a pop song), Terfel and Fleming's singing of them is beyond reproach. The program ends with a bang: a rendition of "Wheels of a Dream" worthy to stand beside the now-classic one by Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald on the original cast album of RAGTIME. Welshman Terfel's natural accent is noticeable here; but if one imagines him as, say, an Irish immigrant married to an African-American woman (as Fleming here sounds uncannily like McDonald or like Leontyne Price) his accent is appropriate and his voicing of the "bridge" section ("Oh Sarah, it's more than promises/Sarah, it must be true...") especially moving. Fleming's ecstatic final high note makes one want to applaud and cheer, both for the song and for the successful "crossover" effort.

BREATHTAKING VOCAL MAGNIFICENCE~BRAVO!!!.......2004-10-11

So captivating are these incredible singers in the glorious live concert "Under The Stars" creating an unforgettable musical masterpiece of epic proportions that is so moving and great to watch that I ran out and purchased this studio recorded Compact Disc the next day!! The brilliance of the live broadcast carried over into the recording studio capturing Renee and Bryn at the peak of their incredible powers emotionally and vocally making them the most effective crossover artists since the great Barbara Cook who like Miss Cook sing with emotion that is accurate for this type of material which is usually not the case with classical voices. Renee Fleming sings with genuine passion and stirring emotions and her timing is absolutely flawless and this lady has alot of soul and the Torrie Zito arranged "Moonfall" is a stunning masterpiece that clearly illustrates this. A dazzling medley each show both singers in glorious peak form with Bryn splendid in the enchanting "I Don't Remember You/Sometimes A Day Goes By" and Renee spellbinding and haunting in the gorgeous "I Wish I Could Forget You/Loving You" which will make anyone who loves a great voice fall in love with this amazingly gifted singer. "Stars" features a commanding performance from Bryn that raises the roof and this is so refreshing and inspired in these musically tired times!!! This superb showcase is full of wonderfully exciting performances which are capable of making people feel again and this is what is sorely needed in music today and BRAVO to Bryn Terfel and the gorgeous Renee Fleming for achieving this with complete artistic brilliance. Captivating duets fill this wonderous collection and never have classics such as "Not While I'm Around" or "All I Ask Of You" been sung more brilliantly than here. Renee is magical with "Hello, Young Lovers" while Bryn is commanding and winning with "Pretty Women". Renee's stunning "All The Wasted Time" is a vocal and emotional tour-de-force that is like a wild roller-coaster ride that you won't want to end as this is one of the most riveting songs that I have ever heard from a Broadway score and this certainly must be the definitive performance of this great song. This lady can really really sing and this is some deeply serious singing~WOW!!! Gorgeous together again in the beautiful "How Could I Ever Know" which is hair-raising and wonderfully soulful and sophisicated together in Cole Porter's "So In Love". A grand finale by these two awesome vocal wonders lives up to expectations being a complete blowout vocal festival and they definitely do not disappoint here!!! "Wheels Of A Dream" is mesmerizing and soars to magnificent heights with Bryn and Renee in peak form singing to the skies and hitting notes that I swear I have never heard before~BRAVO!!!!!!! You are both magically inspired and simply put as good as it gets!!!! Elegant Indeed.......2007-04-16

Ten years ago today was the release of INXS's last studio recording with the late Michael Hutchence. The band had come full circle as they spent years and years making great albums and all leading up to what can be defined as their ultimate masterpiece. INXS always became more refined with every album, while their passion for playing upbeat rock music with a relentless drive is even more founded on Elegantly Wasted. Also not missing are songs filled with just as much passion and poignancy as the music. And Micheal Hutchence continues to sing with vocals that sounded more sharp and emotional than ever. When you listen to these songs now, you can detect how he sang with an unmarked intensity as if there was no tomorrow.

A True Masterpiece.......2006-07-28

This cd, Elegantly Wasted, along with Michael Hutchence's posthumously released solo cd, are my all-time favorite albums. I own back-up copies of each because I am truly addicted to the sounds and lyrics of both. Each is haunting, sophisticated, funky, heartfelt, and intensely soulful. It is not an exaggeration to say that both the Elegantly Wasted (EW) cd and Michael's solo cd have had a deeply profound effect on me. This is not fluff! This is the culmination, the pinnacle of matured talent and creativity. Each track of both cd's is amazing and so full of meaning. Of particular note on the EW cd are the tracks: "I'm Just a Man," "Don't Lose Your Head," "She Is Rising," and "Building Bridges." Michael Hutchence was such an exceptional artist - definitely one of the best frontmen ever. He was an incredible poet with a beautifully strong and soulful voice, as well as, an incomparably thrilling performer. I am so grateful to have all of Michael's cd's (with INXS and solo), and EW and his solo cd's are the best. It is more than a tragedy that Hutch's last two masterpieces have not been lauded to the heights that they deserve. As much as I love his other albums with INXS (e.g., Kick, X, Listen Like Thieves, The Swing, and Shabooh Shoobah), I think EW surpasses them. Like some of the previous reviewers, I agree that EW is among the most underrated and it and Michael's solo cd deserve recognition for their brilliance.

Inxs are back in the spotlight with RockStar: Inxs. Yada yada yada...

However, the most talented member of the band (IMO) is no longer with us.

This release captures some of the best Inxs songs ever recorded.

"Don't Lose Your Head" is such a catchy and poppy song. However, it has very deep lyrics that someone could spend days thinking about. I know I have. Imagine the music of John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" meets the lyrics of Hutch. Then you have about a 80% idea of how awesome this track is. Nothing I could say could do it justice.

"Searching" is a song that isn't very catchy the first time you hear it. However, it will grow on you quickly. It is a VERY amazing song. The lyrics make you wonder what state of mind, Michael was in during this time.

"Elegantly Wasted" is the title track and it has a different style to it. It doesn't really sound like anything Inxs have done before (IMO.) This isn't a bad thing though. The song has a great hook and once again, Michael's lyrics and voice shine.

Also I would say check out "Girl On Fire" because is catchy if you give it a chance.

Michael Hutchence may be gone. To some Inxs are gone with him. However, this album hopefully will remind people how talented Michael Hutchence was, and how great Inxs were back in 1997.

i know people have free speech and i don't condem them people for saying that this is inxs worst album but you must be joking this is not their worst album this is a fantastic heavier sounding inxs in my opipion inxs grew up when they recorded this album it still has the dance beats but it's got heavier riffs and fantastic lyrics and songs that you remember weeks after i cannot fault this album it's my favorite

A disappointing album from a great band.......2005-11-08

To preface: I am a longtime fan of INXS and own everything from Listen Like Thieves to Elegantly Wasted. Elegantly Wasted is, in my opinion, almost worse than Full Moon, Dirty Hearts. Actually, I will definitively say it IS worse. There are the gems Show Me (Cherry Baby) and Elegantly Wasted, the title track, but the album quickly runs out of gas, runs together, and seems uniformly tepid, like lukewarm water. It doesn't rock the way INXS usually rocks. It attempts to experiment like some of the earlier projects successfully did, only unsuccessfully. There aren't the hooks or the tunes to redeem it. This is disappointing because I am a fan and I want to give the band an open ear and not condemn their work. But this album, unfortunately, stinks.

If you've ever seen INXS' Live Baby Live concert or listened to any album from 1985's Listen Like Thieves to 1992's Welcome to Wherever You Are, you probably concur that INXS was (and is, thanks to their newfound popularity with the Rockstar INXS TV show) a band capable of a great sound and a load of great songs. For instance, the entire playlist around 1991 was one great song after another. It was the pinnacle of the band's career. Michael's stage performance oozed with charisma and sexiness, Andrew's (and Michael's) songwriting was top notch, the band's arrangements were tight and good. And then something happened.

Fan reaction to X was much more tepid than to Kick, although X still sold fairly well. The band embarked on a successful tour. Around this time, grunge became huge in the global musical consciousness, and by the time of Welcome to Wherever You Are in 1992, the INXS sound was out-of-style. But ironically, that album contains some of the band's most diverse, greatest work.

INXS is releasing a new album soon with their new lead singer, J.D. I hope, and am confident, that it will be a return to greatness for the band. I believe that they can still crank out bitchin' tunes once again.

This was the first punk band i had everheard. I was in seventh grade (88) i was in Germany. My buddy was like check this band out, it was Black Flag. I was like Black Flag what is that, he was liek trust me you'll like it. I went and was blown away. This band changed everything from that day forward i listened to. This has grown to be one of my favorite bands. If you havent gotten into this band you need to. GET TO IT

Great Greatest Hits.......2005-03-20

As far as greatest hits albums go, this ones for the books. It's got all the essential Black Flag hits on one album, spanning their entire career. If you were only going to own one Black Flag album, this one has everything your looking for. If you want to see what early 80s California hardcore was like, this is a great primer. Perfect disk for newbies to Black Flag, and also a great oppertunity to get all the tunes you really want by them all together. Plus, the version of "Louie Louie" is indespensibe.

black flag were an awesome punk/hardcore band. most people have heard of these guys, but, if you haven't you must've been living under a rock. i think this cd is great because it showcases material by both henry rollins and keith morris. i know alot of people disagree over it but i enjoy both vocalists. standout tracks: six pack, tv party, and louie louie.

A Good Starting Point For Those Interested..........2002-08-24

"Wasted...Again" is quite a good starting point for those interested in West Coast hardcore legends Black Flag. Unlike the lengthier early compilation "Everything Went Black," which consists of material recorded before the arrival of Henry Rollins, this record, a posthumous release, provides a good cross-section of the band playing with all four of its vocalists: Keith Morris, Ron "Chavo" Reyes, Dez Cadena, and Rollins. Though, it is mostly Morris and Rollins show, who are featured on four and five cuts, respectively.
Although the copy that I have is not sequenced in chronological order (the only gripe I have with it) a complete listening in Shuffle mode reveals the complete evolution of the band--from nihilistic hardcore ditties that clock in at under a minute ("Wasted") to lengthy metallic meanderings ("Loose Nut," "Slip It In.")
Although this is primarily a sampler for beginners, this "Greatest Hits" compilation includes one indispensible item for completists--the ultra-rare Flag version of "Louie Louie," belted out by Dez Cadena. This collection is pretty good listening for drunken, rowdy singalongs, as well.

Wasted Again is a greatest album for black flag. The album really shows the band's career really well until the end. Songs like 6 pack, TV party, Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie and I'm so wasted are punk rock classics. This is a perfect album for anyone interested in the history of punk

Let it be known and acknowledged throughout the realm that this is a good album. It resonates with debauchery, slumming, and general otherwise occupations pursued while drinking. It's easy to look at this band's song titles and think that this is all, yet Jizzy and co. place a stamp of adventure and peril on living on the wild side and the slippery slide of booze becomes a mantra, yet one chanted beneath the winsome altar of Dionysus. ':
This is probably their most "fun" album. Let's Rumble" reeks of barbed wire and oil spills; the songs are heavy and true to Thor. "I'm Not Happy" is a daft mix of liquid thunder and poignant melodic malaise.
"Wasted in America" is a look back at the boys on top of the world and the seemingly good times that resonated onto vinyl/cassette/etc..
Love/ Hate was/is much better than the average metal band of the late 80's and should be given a second look by the Rolling Stone crowd and their ilk. If you belong to this Men's Health demigod group, contrite yourself with three straight listens of "Wasted in America" and a devoted drink of at least six Budweisers (Zinfandel and Syrah acceptable). Then apply yourself to the prescribed regimen of 200 ab crunches- though they'll seem insignificant at this point, given the jokerish majesty that is "Wasted in America". All hail the king- and the joker!

I was expecting some rockin tracks like "Rock Queen" on this one but it's not really here. This album is also (too produced). Its ok but their first CD is better.

Hard Rock Funk Stew.......2004-10-05

These cats never hit it big because they were just too damn hip for the masses to grasp. It's an odd mix of GNR & The Chili Peppers, sort of a hard rock funk stew. Jizzy Pearl does sound a lot like Axl but has a beatnik vibe that makes him unique. Title cut hits hard with droning melodic guitars and Jizzy's Alice Cooper like snarl. Spit and Yucca Man lock in to relentless grooves. This band was obviously tight as hell when they made this record. Don't know much about Skid, but the dude could write, and not just good riffs- check out the lyrics on Social Sidewinder. Fave is Miss America- perfect blend of slick 80's rock with skeptical lyrics and a hint of grunge. For what it's worth, all of this bands' records are solid. Also, check out Jizzy Pearl's website- www.jizzypearl.com. This guy is funny as hell and very intelligent. His latest solo record Just A Boy(available only on his website) is five stars in my humble opinion.

Slamming, unique metal band you should check out.......2003-10-15

Love/Hate were certainly an enigma in the early 90's - as most pop metal bands were trying to do the Bon Jovi thing with slick ballads and cheesy rockers (some decent, such as Danger Danger, some awful, such as Trixter), Love/Hate basically did the Guns N' Roses thing but a little heavier and less accessible. Gutteral, sleazy "pop" metal that is a direct descendent of Shout At The Devil and Appetite For Destruction, but with more humor and musical tricks injected into the songs. Every player is firing on all cylinders, the guitar tone and solos are heavy but not always obvious or expected, and vocalist Jizzy Pearl's screech is one of the better examples of typical 80's metal. I read a review once that called this the 2nd best metal album of the 90's, and I wouldn't be too quick to disagree. Wasted In America was a great effort from a sadly unnoticed band that deserved to be a major player, I guess they never had a sappy enough ballad to break them through to the masses. Nearly every tune on here is a keeper, and last but not least, you can probably find it fairly cheap.

Best Tracks:
"Wasted In America" - Straight up driving rock with great guitar.
"Spit" - Queen-like vocals on the intro always crack me up, they make lyrics like 'Throbbing, pulsating, gyrating, hyperventilating' sound angelic. After that it's a slamming GNR meets Chili Peppers-type tune.
"Yucca Man" - Who knows what this is about, but it's heavy and the musicianship is great.
"Happy Hour" - Way left of center lyrics go hand in hand with this odd timed beat, all the time changes and musical/lyrical quirks make this as artsy and proggy as heavy Crimson or Rush.
"Tranquilizer" - Beautiful intro is deceptive, kicks into metal around 1 minute. Great song, love the guitar all the way through.
"Dont F*** With Me" - The band's odd sense of humor pops up, this is a charming and hilariously catchy sing along - a childish and essential rant that is 10000 times better than "Get In The Ring" or any other hateful tracks for it's sense of humor.

THIS BAND IS TERRIBLE!!! I had to sit through them live when they were opening for the dropkick murphys. The guitars suck the lyrics are crappy and they have a crappy singer. It amazed me that people like these guys actually got a record label. Old school hardcore punk like this is crap. I recommend u dont waste the time on ur computer to download this stuff.

Blood for Blood, Jersey Hardcore at its best........2002-07-18

I have to say that out of all the hardcore that I've listened to in my time Blood for Blood in one of the most influencial bands that I've heard. There lyrics speak of the hidden life of the people kicked out, beatin in, and forced to live on the street. This able, like all others, has all of those explicitly true lyrics. If they still played shows I would be the first one on line to get tickets, and the first one in the building to see them. By far, one of the best albums of all time, five stars in my book.

Hardcore music with hardcore lyrics, WhiteTrashRob and Budha bring it and they bring it hard!! No other hardcore band comes close to BFB's intensity/insanity. WASTED YOUTH IN YOUR FACE!.......2001-05-02

For starters, Blood for Blood definatley reigns as one of the top hardcore bands in my collection. Starting with "Spit my last breath" onto the good ole "Enemy" 7"...and finally concluding with "revenge...", and "livin'...", "Wasted Youth Brew" contains unreleased demo versions of classics from spit my last breath, about four cover songs, a live set, and a creepy intro. Not to mention the fact that its BLOOD FOR BLOOD! This is an album definaltley worth buying, and about the live set...It sounds great! Lyrics that are as powerful and borderline psychotic (and extremley deep) as a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, catchy oi! style riffs, and a presence that will blow all the other "angry" bands out of the water!

realised i luv this band's sound and just ordered all of their albums on amazon...pistols of fire is too down and funky dirty.and they have a great blend of melody and rhtymn....i luv that "let the good time roll,,, etc" because the voice becomes the beat and the beat becomes the voice etc.....obviously they could make lots of money if they made a few more radio friendly californias waiting....im glad they havent...

The Wasted Time Import EP includes Mollys Hangover (which has not been released anywhere else) as well as a live track (Joes Head) and the video of Wasted Time.

Because you either adore or detest the Kings of Leon, and because the band has not only made it but is obviously going to be a major voice in rock, I see no point in the host of reviews that are either cheerleading or dissing them. I've not seen a band generate so much love/hate since the Stones broke in way back in 1964 (and I'm old enough to remember that very clearly).

Personally, I'm convinced KOL will be one of the greatest bands ever (and I can count the number of bands I've said that about over the last 40 years on one hand)....and yes, I've seen them live more than once.

I'm a big early L.A. Guns fan, and with that said, I just couldn't get used to this new Guns incarnation without Phil. The songs were ok, not great, and without Phil....naaahh.

Buy any and all L.A. Guns with Phil Lewis on vocals, anything else and it really ain't worth it.

this disc is good for what it is. it's not classic LA Guns, but it's still a great ep. the disc opens with "wasted", a killer rock track that will make you a fan on the spot. next are the tracks "well spent" & "heavy head", good songs with a hint of classic Van Halen. "forgiving eyes" follows, and is the high point of the disc. "jayne '98" & "cold gin" are weak points & don't hold up to the first four tracks. highlights: "wasted" & "forgiving eyes".

this album rocks like no other la guns. the only song i didnt like was forgiving eyes. jayne 99 is better then the original!!! its kold gin tyme again!!!!!!!!!!
