4 out of 5 stars Stevie Wonder At The Crossroads.......2005-10-20

I am almost a Stevie Wonder completist, strictly on the basis I think most of his music is brilliant. But listening to this album even so 'Signed Sealed Delivered' is a transitional recording."Never Had A Dream Come True" starts of the album and it has the same musical sound as standard Funk Brothers-style Motown but more of Wonder's individual flair for melody comes through. The exact same thing happens on "I Gotta Have A Song" and "Sugar",which is a more uptempo song. Some of the songs here are pure varitations on the classic title song like the quircky "I Can't Let My Heaven Walk Away" but the two tracks that stand right out are "Heaven Help Us All",Wonder's first self written stab at political commentary with very heavy gospel overtones. This album could hardly be called a brilliant masterstroke because Stevie Wonder was still working the last remaining threads of his assembly line-type Motown style music out of his system and this happens on a significant number of cuts. But when he whips his funky clavinet out on the grooving version of "You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover" the times for Wonder are a-changin'.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2005-10-19

This album is fantastic. I love the following songs with a passion: I Gotta Have A Song, Heaven Help Us All, Something To Say (very catchy little tune), We Can Work It Out (Beatles classic which he made all his own)..

Buy this CD. You will not be dissapointed.

4 out of 5 stars A hidden gem in Stevie's catalog!.......2005-10-09

Man this album is good! I mean really, really good! When you open up the cd case, in the upper right hand corner of the cover it reads, "The Motown Sound", which basically means that you are in for a taste of the world's greatest rhythm section and some of the catchiest and most infectious harmonies ever captured on record (of which The Funk Brothers, led by bass virtuoso James Jamerson, were primarily responsible). But of course, that goes without saying if you're at all familiar with Motown. I basically assumed that all of Stevie's albums prior to re-negotiating his contract and gaining full creative control over his material pretty much had the same flaw that many Motown albums from that period had: several brilliant outstanding singles with some left over material used to fill the album out. That is NOT the case with this outstanding piece of work. Don't let that cheesy album cover turn you away, because this is a young Stevie Wonder in top form here, which means that this is likely one of the greatest albums that you'll ever hear. Not that there is no filler at all but even the "lesser" material here, and there is very little (two songs tops) , are still solid efforts. Stevie Wonder is probably the single greatest composer/songsmith in the history of popular music, not to mention one of the greatest vocalists. There may not be a whole lot here in terms of innovation, especially compared to his later work, but Stevie's sense of song here is so incredibly strong that he excels in every aspect of songcraft to the point that I have to simply sit back and marvel. Just listen to everything about "Sugar", especially Stevie's drumming...!!! Songs on this album range from the warm, melodic, and contemplative "Never had a Dream Come True" and "Heaven Help us All" to the hard rockin' "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours" and his outstanding cover of The Beatles' "We Can Work It Out". Most Beatles covers by other artist leave much to be desired to put it kindly, but Stevie not only matches The Beatles here, he and The Funk Brothers actually manage to outdo their original. Other highlights include "Anything you want me to do" which once again makes me marvel and wonder how it is even humanly possible for someone to have such a strong basic sense of melody (the same can easily be said of the absolutely phenomenal "Something to Say"), and the near awe-inspiring "Joy". This album is not as groundbreaking or innovative as some of his work, but it's still extremely solid, and easily just as essential as some of his later work from the 70's. So, your in for a real treat if you make it a part of you're collection.

5 out of 5 stars Best Pure Wonder...Ever!.......2005-05-19

Stevie's making a publicity push with his new ablum, so this is a good time to rethink his catalog.

Having heard them all, repeatedly, since he first hit the charts with Fingertips, I'll vote that this is ...by far... the purest Wonder available.

It's all about the spare straight forward backgrounds, mostly minus the latter day Mowtown schmlatz, and that voice. Joyous double track "We can work it out", where Stevie is both John and Paul; satisifed beyond compare in "Never had a dream come true"; and as sad as a young man can be in "Don't Wonder Why".

Sure, "Heaven help us all" is 70's we are the world, but just listen to the simple intro of "Something to Say" and you may agree that if you had to pick only one Stevie, this should be it!

Plus, his 'poetry' is right up there with the best of vintage Smokey

"I've done a lot of foolish things,
That I really didn't mean
Didn't I?
I could be a broken man,
But here I am
Signed, sealed, deliverd, I'm yours"

I only have one word to say about this. EXCELLENT. It is The Cope at his all time best. I have many cassettes by him and they do not compare to this CD. It shows him at all sides of his musical talents. If you are a new COPE FAN or and old. I would highly recommend this CD for your collection for the old fans. For the new fans this will give you a broad and good look at his musical talents, and turn you into a COPE fan.

4 out of 5 stars very pleased.......2006-01-28

Unfortunately, jonathan is the only one left from this period."signed, sealed, delivered" is one of the finest southern gospel songs i have ever heard.very clever.good album as a whole. It is a classy record

5 out of 5 stars You have got to get this CD!.......2005-12-15

This collection of songs is arguably the best ever by this premier Southern Gospel quartet. You just can't listen to it and not be happy all day. Move over Cathedrals, Kingsmen, and Gaithers, Gold City has just skyrocketed to #1. It's that good!

5 out of 5 stars The best gospel CD I have!.......2001-09-06

I love this album. The music is upbeat, and the singing is just great. Gold City does a wonderful job. I could especially listen to "He Said" and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" all day, as well as the rest of the songs. In fact I almost do. I have a repeat button on my MusicMatch, and I play this CD several times before I shut it off. I would recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Gold City Delivers.......2001-06-03

This CD, with its fine collection of new songs, shows that Gold City is in the top groups in Southern Gospel music today. Of special note, listen to the song, "Hide me behind the cross".

This group delivers in its ability to blend together all the individual talent each member posesses. There is no finer bass in this field than Tim Riley and this CD demonstrates his great ability. Listen to the quality and range he shows on the title cut.

Gold City has crafted several CD's in the last few years that rank in the top for that year but none surpasses this collection in my opinion. If you like groups such as the Kingsmen, The Gaither Vocal Band, or The Kingdom Heirs, this CD belongs in your collection

3 out of 5 stars Signed Sealed Delivered--Gold City.......2001-03-20

I did not find the quality or words of most songs to be of high quality. Bill & Gloria Gaither set the standars that I use. The record did not meet my "high" expectations. The Cathedrals far surpass this group.

              5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2005-09-08

This song was played at my son's wedding. I had only heard the Stevie Wonder version before that. This song makes me want to dance and I wish Blue had more music like this.

5 out of 5 stars Blue do it again!.......2004-05-16

First off, my single has a different cover. But I like the cover of this version - Duncan looks gorgeous. Anyhoo...

Blue just keep getting better and better. Signed, Sealed, Delivered is a brilliant track, but it didn't do so well on the UK charts. It was released Christmas week 2003, and in the rush, it missed the top ten by one place, charting at No.11. I think the song should have gone higher - top five at least. It is the only Blue song to date to miss the top ten, and it is the first song to miss the top five since early 2002 (when Fly By made No.6).
But this single is great anyway - ignoring the crap chart placing. It features 3 completely different songs - all equally great.
              Track rundown:

              1. Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours (5/5)
When I heard this song on the Blue "Guilty" album sampler originally, I didn't like it at ALL. But when I got the album, and listened to this song once I fell in love with it. It is fantastic! The boys shine alongside legend Stevie Wonder and soul diva Angie Stone. You may remember Blue covered Angie Stone's track "Don't Treat Me Like A Fool" for their "One Love" album. The song is extremely catchy - updating the original with their own flavour - a 2003 version. Out of the four Blue boys, Duncan shines the most on the first verse and Lee does a good job on the verse after Stevie's. Antony gets a few lines after the first chorus and Simon does some adlibbing. An excellent track that didn't deserve it's No.11 placing.
              2. 4 Play (5/5)
Why are Blue bonus tracks so brilliant? Yet again, the boys do another great B-side. 4 Play is now added to the list which includes "Made For Loving You", "Sweet Thing" and "Love RIP". This song is funky, groovy and has a catchy chorus. Simon is on lead vocals and he does a fantastic job. This will get stuck in your head. Great.
              3. Guilty [Demo Version] (5+++++/5)
Oh my god! I love this. This single is worth buying just to hear this beautiful track. It is the demo version of the boys' No.4 single (the one released before this), that Duncan co-wrote. He sings this demo version, and that's why I love it so much. Duncan has a fantastic voice, it's very sexy and breathy and he shows he can hack it alone - when Blue end, Duncan could go on to do a solo career - his voice is good enough. I like this even more then the single version. Demo versions officially rock.

Even though there is only three tracks - it is worth buying because they are all different and wonderful. I anticipate the New Zealand release of "Breathe Easy" (the video is on music channels here right now so the single should follow soon) and the UK release of "Bubblin" - out July 5th, 2004, the last release from the "Guilty" album.
