Customer Reviews:
Being Obedient to the Title of This Album With Ease.......2007-04-25
The interesting thing about this album is that I purchased it after purchasing "The Icon Is Love". I liked Barry's spin on Volare, and like any true romantic, his "Dark & Lovely" duet with Issac Hayes for over 10 minutes put the exclamation put on the album and on any lovemaking night for a set tone. I truly can't get enough of my idol; for it was Barry White (through this album and countless others of his that I possess) who makes up 90% of my romantic nature. So anyone (especially a female) who dislikes or despises Barry White might as well lay claim to disliking or despising me too, and once again, that's your prerogative, your fault, and your loss.
Barry gets back in the mix.......2004-05-24
By 1991 Barry had returned to the scene with two comeback albums `The Right Night & Barry White' (1987) and `The Man Is Back' (1989), and although my man hadn't yet enjoyed major sales, these were impressive albums. `Put Me In Your Mix' re-established him to some extent, the eerie sounding title tracks plea & killer violin loop put Barry back at #1 on the R&B charts. There's other strong stuff here, `For Real Chill' also rides an instantly catchy groove, and Barry hooks up with none other than Isaac Hayes for the closing 10 minute slow jam `Dark & Lovely'. `Volare' is bright & cheery, and finds The Maestro exercising his foreign tongue, and closes off the first half. Like his previous album, side one seems to be more upbeat, and with `Put Me In Your Mix' side two seems to be darker and more slowed down. I really dig `Who You Giving Your Love To'. Barry captures the feeling of being secretly in love with a complete stranger you see everyday perfectly.
By 1991 The Maestro was 46 yrs old and once again it reflects with the experience & depth in his lyrics. Its cool how when he initially came back in 87 a lot of the young bucks who were outselling him had already vanished from the scene. `Put Me In Your Mix' builds on the foundation he laid with his previous two albums & this is a cool effort.
Blended as only "The Maestro" could do!.......2002-01-27
Surprisingly, this should have been the one that catapulted White back into the forefront of R & B. That honor would be bestowed, however, to the follow-up release "The Icon is Love."
Regardless, though, "Put Me in Your Mix" is characteristically Barry: heavy on the sexual connotations and heavy background orchestral arrangements featuring the patented sultry strings that so permeate his music. The first cut "Let's Get Busy" sets the tone for the delights to follow.
And there are many!! From the throbbing "For Real Chill" to the reworking of the classic "Volare'" to the title cut with its classic line "I can make your toenails curl," White captivates like no other vocalist.
A double pleasure is the pairing of White with fellow bass Isaac Hayes on the ten-minute plus "Dark and Lovely (You Over There)".
