Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
Ray Charles, phenomenal talent with his rough, expressive, one-of-a-kind voice and his funky swing on piano and organ make this CD compilation of his greatest Hits even more enticing because it is digitally re-mastered for the highest quality sound.
With the alternating tear jerking ballads of the unforgettable version of "Georgia on my mind" and the lively big band work of "Alabama Bound" his ABC-Paramount debut along with the tender "Moonlight in Vermont" and the awesome delivery on "Basin Street Blues" is right in the pocket. Ray's arrangement is very sharp on "Moon over Miami" and we can not forget about Ray's humorous side with his rendition of "Deep in the Heart of Texas".
Ray's country western side is quite evident on this masterful CD compilation as well with "Born to Lose" and Don Gibson's "I can't stop loving you" is a classic.
Ray's hit single "Busted" written by Harland Howard has a big band swing with soul and let us not forget about the straight Bluesy R&B track "Let's get Stoned".
This album is a treasure of one of the Best Musicians of our time. The man, genius and legend that took R&B, Blues, Gospel, Country, Swing and Funk and made it his own.

Customer Reviews:
One of the best of the seventies!.......2007-06-14
This is one of the best of the super seventies albums and a little-recognized classic. Supertramp had a unique and instantly recognizable style that is very appealing if you like complex arrangements, solid but detailed melodies, all built around superb keyboard playing. If all you know are the hits from "Breakfast in America", you really don't know Supertramp and probably dismiss them as a trivial band known for simple pop songs. This CD will quickly dispell this notion and deserves repeated listening.
good service.......2007-05-19
The CD promptly arrived in the mail. It was new and in the wrapper, as indicated in the product description. Very satisfied.
Congratulations! You just found something wonderful!.......2007-03-07
I'm sure you are familiar with Supertramp from Breakfast In America or possibly Crime Of The Century (both most have albums). Well, this CD is right up there as being one of the greatest Supertramp recordings. For my money, Supertramp was on fire during these years and was pumping out some seriously good music. Fool's Overture - turn it up, lay back and be amazed!
4.2 CLASSIC.......2007-03-03
This is a great CD. featuring 2 of the BEST songs ever written ('Give a Little Bit' and 'Even in the quietest..). Lyrically that song is gorgeous! Not to mention the 11 minute opus 'Fools Overture' (which i personally think sounds better on 'Paris')... This is a cd with songs that will never get old.. Too bad people forgot how to write good music anymore. Music with passion and feel.. Supertramp delivered always!! especially in the '70's!! Thanks for the great music Davies/Hodgson..
Great Work.......2007-01-14
This is the other Supertamp cd (besides their ace Crime of the Century)that is a must for any classic rock collection. It is also worthy of five stars, but slightly below my ranking on the aforementioned Crime of the Century.

Opera for Aficianados as well as Newbies.......2007-06-11
If you are looking for peaceful, beautiful music this is for you. It is a delightful mix of some of opera's most memorable moments. Long time opera fans will be familiar with most of the arias and newcomers to opera will recognize music that has become identified with movies and commercials.
superb! .......2007-05-12
If you love wonderful operatic moments then this cd is a great buy for all of the wonderful and spectacular music on it. You get two cds for the price of one great opera cd, and all of the talented singers that were taken and put on these tracks do definate justice to all of the composers listed. A great cd to add to your collection especially if you are an aspiring singer or a student in music. Absolutely Fantastic!
beatiful music.......2007-02-23
former reviews are no exaggeration, this is the most beautiful music I have come across. I have many opera CDs but this is one I never tire of.
I listen to the CD everyday and it is always soothing, uplifting and inspiring. I wish I could find another as wonderful.
Best Opera CD ever.......2007-02-16

Most were phantastish but this one is the best.
I listen so often to this CD that it should have grooves.
I never get tired of it.
I recommend this CD highly.

Album Description
Robert Plant's Post-Led Zeppelin Solo Career is celebrated with an expanded & remastered edition. The Principle of Moments is a complex and expressive sonic marvel. It includes four rare bonus tracks as well as the previously-unreleased track, "Turnaround."
Customer Reviews:
Average Effort.......2007-06-24
It's unlikely that an album such as this is going to win over new fans - I'd guess most people buying it are fans from the past. So I'll address the three things those who are considering upgrading will care about:
1. Does it sound better?
2. Are the bonus tracks worthy?
3. Is the booklet any good?
Is the sound better? The quick answer is YES. However, it's a MARGINAL improvement only. It's much louder, so if you play your music with the stereo turned up to 5, then you might only need this disc on 3 (if that makes any sense). There is EVER SO SLIGHTLY more clarity, and the bass is tighter. However, probably only audiophiles will care. It is NOT a "night and day" difference. When you adjust volume levels so the old disc sounds the same loudness wise, the differences are very minor.
Are the bonus tracks worth it? Well there are four here. The first "In the Mood Live" is actually quite bad. Plant's vocal is out of tune on the harmonies, and the mix loses instruments every now and again, pushing the guitar to the back. The second "Thru with the Two Step Live" is pretty good though. It clocks in at 10 minutes, with an extended intro of more than 3 minutes. The mix has settled, and it's a good listen. The third is "Lively Up Yourself Live", a Bob Marley tune. This is a good song, and while Plant simply covers it (not major changes really) it's a fun tune, and it's done by musicians clearly having a good time. Finally, there's "Turnaround", an outtake from the original sessions. This is by far the best bonus track here. I wish they had put it FIRST among the bonus songs, so we could have enjoyed the sessions rather than have to wade through the live stuff first.
All in all, the bonus material is okay. The studio track is great, the live stuff is nice, but not essential.
Finally the booklet. They have taken the notes straight from the booklet of the box set from wence this came - they're not exhaustive, sadly. Still, tey beat the original release.
All in all then, this is a minor upgrade to a classic record. Those expecting something revilutionary sound wise will be disapointed if they do a close examination. The bonus tracks are't terrible though, and Plant is always great.
Robert Plant Continues Where Zeppelin Might Have.......2007-05-06
With PRINCIPLE OF MOMENTS, Robert Plant continues to move forward musically and lyrically. On this CD, Plant continues on the path to where Led Zeppelin might have gone had drummer John Bonham not died in an alcohol-related choking incident in 1980.

DON'T BOTHER.......2007-06-29
This CD deserves a zero star rating. The engineering on this CD takes away any hope of enjoyment. The mixing is absolutely terrible. The group sounds as if they're trying to scretch out and shatter someone. This is an all-time group, but the quality control is AWOL. Love On A Two-Way Street is the only song that sounds decent, and yet...
Wendy from Washington DC .......2007-03-29
This CD is Fantastic. I remember when I was a teenager and I would go to the Loew's Palace in DC to see my favorite singers. I have been a fan of the MOMENTS and later RAY, GOODMAN & BROWN for many years. I remember one night I had stayed for both shows and Harry Ray had me come up on stage to sing and dance with him. I never forgot that night. I have the CD's from New Jersey "THE BIG SHOW". I am still a fan from wayback. Would love to see other DVD's from this group....I still love you all....My heart is still with Harry Ray....Gone way to soon. You will always be missed.
The Best of the Moments: Love On a Two way street.......2007-01-18
I have been an admirer of the Moments since 1975. I have another "Greatest Hits" collection as well as the "Greatest Hits" of Ray, Goodman and Brown. The only stand-out song on this collection is the "Full-length" version of "Sexy Mama (8:52)." Rhino chooses to release the "Single" versions of most of the other songs? If I had known this in advance, I probably wouldn't have spent the money. Arguably, I only spent $10/US for the collection - but in there is a principle. I feel that I've been cheated (somewhat).
In closing, The song "Come Away With Me" is a classic "Moments" song that will grow on you!
Five stars for the Moments, three stars for the disc...
Out of Site.......2007-01-10
This cd is allsome. I love to get a cd an it has more than one of to good songs on it. Most of the songs on here are the bomb. I was in grade school when most of these songs came out and those was some good times.
Not on the Outside.......2007-01-05
Also the Moments are one of the best Soulgroups, I like this musik
and can everybody say - buy it.

Customer Reviews:
Great collection of Scott Joplin's piano rags.......2007-08-02
John Arpin delivers excellent performances of Joplin's rags. Not too much interpretation and not a flat presentation exhibited by piano rolls. Perfect for me. I believe Arpin has truly captured Joplin's essence.
The Complete Piano Music of Scott Joplin.......2007-06-08
John Arpin does a great job with these pieces. The songs carry a consistent sound and are played very close to as-written, which comes and goes with old ragtime pieces. The stamping on Stop-Time Rag doesn't have a consistent sound to it, can be a little distracting. Everything else is great, overall I think that it's a great buy, I'm very happy with it.
Another Performer Rewrites Joplin's Masterpieces.......2007-05-31
Once again, another performer feels the need to rewrite the music of the King of Ragtime. Scott Joplin spins in his grave each and every time this recording is played.
Again, to those who believe that concert music is meant to be rewritten by each and every performer I ask, is the same treatment also acceptable for Chopin's and Rachmaninoff's music? Would "Moonlight Sonata" sound better if played at twice the tempo and with a reprise of the first Adagio movement thrown in at the end? Obviously, the answer to these questions is a resounding NO!, so why does one of America's greatest composers get such disrespect?
Interpretation is an integral part of every performance. Adding one's own notes, phrases and chords where none should be is not. Randomly changing the structure of the piece is not. Playing a piece at twice the indicated tempo is not.
One the plus side, the depth of this collection is outstanding. Joplin's lesser known pieces like "Harmony Club Waltz" really shine. The recording is decent in quality, although a bit bassy in places.
While its been stated before, I feel its worth repeating: Buy Joshua Rifkin's performances of Joplin in order to hear how the Master intended his pieces to sound.
complete piano music of Scott Joplin on 4 CD's.......2007-02-14
Although all of the music is terrific it is rather a lot of a similar sound. I think I would have preferred 2 CD's of selected piano works of Scott Joplin. But I did get the music at a good price.
Ragtime Marvel.......2005-10-09
This collection of Scott Joplin's piano music is outstanding. As a lover of ragtime which was a prelude to jazz, I am thoroughly enjoying this collection. If you are not a lover of jazz, you may be a lover of ragtime. Jazz can sometimes be grating on the nerves, whereas ragtime lifts the spirit.

Customer Reviews:
Ultimate music for every time of day and every mood.......2007-07-03
With 20 CDs in the collection, we have classical music for every mood and atime of day.
Would give 5 stars if sound quality where better.......2007-06-30
This Classical collection is one of great length and breadth ,and is well worth purchasing ,if you want an abundance of music at a low price. The sound quality is decent, however it is not great. This set will not provide you with the crisp, clear sound quality of a RCA,CBS or other well known label,so some classical aficionados may not appreciate it much.It all depends on what your looking for ,I guess.
Great collection for a great price.......2007-06-27
I did not expect much in buying this collection, but I was greatly surpeised. There were no reviews of the product at the time, and I bought the collection simply as a sampler of many great piano pieces. Most of the recordings are exquisite and of decent recording quality. This collection was well worth the price.
20 Fabulous Discs.......2007-06-08
I am surprised that this set has been out for 4 years and nobody reviewed it here yet. This is a lovely and occasionally amazing compilation. I was moved by many of the compositions. I really enhanced my classical music collection with this set. You have so many legends here to enjoy, from Bach to Brahms, Mozart to Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Gershwin, and more. If you love classical piano music and don't already have most of these works then this is a must buy for you. The price may go up, but I was fortunate to cash in on the $17.97 price. Quite a bargain for 20 fabulous discs.

Yes, Virginia, Rach 3 existed before David Helfgott and Shine. Vladimir Horowitz made a recording in 1951 that continues to be the delight and despair of every pianist, notwithstanding standard cuts and minor, nerve-induced inaccuracies. The 1980 Second Sonata is looser but no less intense than Horowitz's storied 1968 CBS version, while the short pieces ooze with sex: even the Polka! --Jed Distler

Buy it ! (for the concerto).......2006-02-01
The performance that Horowitz gives us in this '50s recording of the Rach 3 is a testament to outstanding human artistic endeavor. As Rachmaninoff said, "...he (Horowitz) swallowed it whole." Along with his pianistic pyrotechnics, Horowitz demonstrates wonderful architectural overview, inevitability, and stylistic authenticity. Truly, a recording of this concerto sui generis that should be in the libraries of all who love the piano!
The other pieces on this CD, recorded for RCA ca. the late '70s,
have an unpleasant piano sound. Franz Mohr, piano tuner for
Horowitz/Steinway during this period, discusses this issue in his
book, "My Life with the Great Pianists." Superb recordings of
these pieces are available: Piano Sonata No. 2, recording
Horowitz made for Columbia Records in the late '60s; Prelude in
G, Op. 32, Horowitz in Moscow, 1986; and Moment Musical in E flat
minor and Polka de V. R., Sergei Rachmaninoff, Great Pianists of
the 20th Century, Philips/Polygram (compiled in 1998).
The majesty of Horowitz.......2006-01-15
Musicians are reluctant to give rankings. We want to separate the classical music world from the hyped world of MTV top tens and USnews school rankings. Since this is the case why are so many pianists assert and reiterate the glory of Horowitz among 20th century pianists. After all if we are going to deviate from our tendency not to rank we should at least substantiate why Horowitz is so special.
If one dwells on it for a second the physical act of playing the piano boils down to brain finger coordination. The brain sends a message to the finger what to do next - where to move, how soft to touch the key, etc. It is extremely hard to reach a very high level of coordination. For example, if someone had 100 percent brain hand coordination in basketball they would never miss a shot.
Horowitz brain-finger coordination is just phenomenal (there are many examples of this and a classic one in my opinion is his playing of Etincelles). Imagine telling a pianist to play a 20 minute piece ONLY in pianissimo but still continaing crescendos and decrescendos within the pianissimo. For 99.9 percent of pianists, and even the great ones, this would be impossible. At some stage during this hypothetical piece they will accidentally stray into mezzo forte (or some other level). TO BE ABLE to play with such softness for a prolonged period of time is unbelievably hard because you need complete control of the fingerwork.
Critics often miss the mark when talking about Horowitz. They look at isolated concerts or recordings during his very long career that are flawed ( and admittedly Horowitz did have ups and downs). The crux of the pianist's talent lies in what he could do at the piano when he reaches the summit of his ability. If one looks at Horowitz' output within a larger context things look different.
Let me conclude with comments of the famous pianist, William Kappell:
"I'm so weak from tears and shouting, that I can hardly write.... I just heard Horowitz here in Pasadena, playing the 3rd Concerto of Rachmaninoff. The man is such a genius of the piano that it seems inhuman to play like that.... He is not a pianist, he is a magician."
Eloquent and Succinct.
Exultant pianism; Faustian inspiration!.......2005-10-22
The monumental Sonata No. 2 is possibly the most complete work of this genre emerged from Russia until this date. It possesses that effluvium and nostalgic gaze, contemplative lyricism and arresting expression that invades the listener from the first bars. Involved in the classical Romantic heritage, with a strong Lisztian influence and the majestic and elusive introspection so typical of Robert Schumann.
The celebrated Non allegro: Lento expresses this sad melodic flight where the meditation and farewell sense seems to shake hands. What it seduces me from this version is its maidenly approach; Horowitz understands the core of the work as anyone else, given this similar condition of exiled Soviet citizen and explores with acuteness and refined eloquence the inner folds, those enigmatic pianissimos and sudden outbursts of fevered poetry make of this performance the most genuine and best achieved versions that I have ever listened never before.
The Third Piano Concerto despite the fact is not my first choice is incandescent and superbly phrased. In addition we have Reiner making a sharp collaboration and showing the Russian mood underlined beneath the score. Horowitz unexplainable does not play the Diabolic Cadenza and that 's probably one the disillusioned aspects that I dislike; this Cadenza is a true firewall that stigmatizes and accents still more the febrile passion and enraptured flame of this monumental score.
In this sense no other pianist in the history has been able to reach the level of the unsurpassed, resplendent and delirious performance that William Kapell did it in 1952 in a live Concert pitifully non available in CD, due it was a live register, that I could get it thanks to a friend of mine who got a copy in Washington of a hard fan of William in 1988. Since I listened this version, became automatically in the parameter per excellence at the moment to compare some other recording.
It's Horowitz. It's the best........2005-08-25
The CD starts with the Sonata Number 2, which Rachmaninoff composed, then shortened in his later years. Horowitz came to Rachmaninoff saying that he had cut too much. Rachmaninoff agreed and had Horowitz himself add back in what he thought was appropriate. Rachmaninoff approved the changes and that became the official version. Horowitz apparently made a few more changes since the composer's death which he feels Rachmaninoff would have approved. This is the final version that appears in this recording.
There are then a few smaller but still delightful pieces. One of the Musical Moments that Rachmaninoff was apparently particularly proud of. It is done in the Horowitz style, but the piece is dissonant and swirling, even for Rachmaninoff, creating a nice contrast. It's delightful to hear Horowitz's interpretation with his melodic and bell-like tone.
The prelude is peaceful and more complementary (rather than contrasting) to Horowitz's style. Melodic, relaxed, and dreamy.
The Polka is actually based on something Rachmaninoff's father used to play. A folk melody arranged in the virtuoso Rachmaninoff style. Fascinating.
Finally we come to the Third Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto. The Rach 3 as it is known. Respected and feared by pianists the world over. It won Olga Kern the International Cliburn Competition. There are apparently a few mistakes in the piece due to nerves, but I can only hear two spots where they MIGHT be. Horowitz's interpretation emphasizes speed and lightness rather than size and weight (which Ashkenazy tends to emphasize). Horowitz plays the "light and quicksilver" cadenza rather than the heavier chordal one which is more "typical" of Rachmaninoff. I would like to hear Horowitz play the other cadenza, as well. Sometimes when Ashkenazy or other pianists play this piece, you can hear when they are no longer considering interpretation or artistry. They are merely trying to survive the piece intact. Horowitz never struggles with the piece, even though it is the hardest in the repertoire, he is always thinking, feeling, and interpreting the piece. I'm often gasping for breath, but Horowitz is always effortlessly skimming along. A marvelous playing of my favorite Rachmaninoff and my favorite piece. This is marvelous, but it is fascinating to hear other interpretations of this piece. For a more purposeful (but equally speedy) interpretation, I recommend Byron Janis. For a more ponderous weighty interpretation, I recommend Ashkenazy. Olga Kern also does well playing this piece in the Cliburn DVD. It's amazing to see it played.
Absolutely sick!.......2005-08-24
The single greatest recording by the greatest classical pianist of the modern era.

4 Lads - moments to Remember.......2007-07-25
Excellent CD. By far, the best song is "My Little Angel". Most of the others are great too.
A Wonderful Song Collection.......2007-03-01
I have enjoyed the music of The Four Lads for most of my life. I think that this is one of the finest music collections on cd that I have ever heard.
Moments to Remember: Very Best of the Four Lads.......2007-01-29
Great old songs by a great old group
One of my childhood favorites.......2007-01-10
My parents had an album of greatest hits by the 4 lads and I played it over and over again. When the group came to our local county fair a few years ago, I made plans to see them in person. Their harmony is wonderful and many of their songs are so upbeat that you just smile and smile as you listen to them. And this CD not only has all of the old songs I remember from my childhood but a bunch of others too. Great fun!!
THE definitive Four Lads collection.......2006-09-07
Every hit song that the Four Lads made (except for a few that were really the Four Lads and someone else, like "Cleo and Me-O" with Jill Corey or "Cry" with Johnnie Ray) is included in this collection, including BOTH versions of "The Mocking Bird" (yes, two different versions charted, several years apart!)
It includes their biggest hits and some less-popular songs (like "There's Only One of You," my personal Four Lads favorite).
If you like the sound of this group, this CD is a must-buy. None of the other "best of..." collections compares to this one.

If You Have To Pick Just One .......2006-04-04
John Hiatt fans are, if nothing else, opinionated. I can certainly see how the hard-core faithful who love "Slow Turning" and "Bring the Family" might find "Stolen Moments" a bit too commercial. But like earlier reviewer Sherry Lazaroff, "Stolen Moements" was my first Hiatt album (I heard it at a party and asked "Who is THAT??")and I've been a fan ever since. You might say that since "Stolen Moments," I've "grown" into "Slow Turning," "Bring the Family," "Perfectly Good Guitar" and the nice get-together on "Little Village." That said, I never tire of coming back to "Stolen Moments." It remains a staple of both my "road trip music" and my "kicking back at home" music. Well-expressed sentiments, nice licks, and clean production work. Without taking anything away from what are commonly deemed the Hiatt "classics," if you've never bought a John Hiatt album, this is a heck of a good place to start.
Must Biatt Hiatt.......2005-10-18
If you had to pin me down over my favorite Hiatt album than this would very narrowly win from all the others. Most sheep would have you believe Bring the Family or Slow Turning are Hiatt's definitive albums but I think this album is Hiatt reaching perfect balance. Combining, country, blues and rock with John's vocal at it's best and to my mind some of his strongest lirics. This album is It!! Buy It!!
Stolen Moments.......2005-10-10
This was the first CD I heard from John Hiatt. I've bought every CD since. He's like your best buddy, your brother, the nice guy you wish you'd meet, etc. Great music. Great lyrics.
Premium Hiatt in His Prime.......2003-12-19
John Hiatt is AWESOME baby! And this album is one of those albums that continues to grow on you every time you listen. Its why I never grow tired of listening to it. It is so diverse and has so many musical elements in it. It's nearly impossible to put in words the bare essence of this eclectic performer and how his raw and broad talent is captured... Probably, one of the most overlooked albums ever made period! Buy this damn album NOW!!!
Not quite on par with its predecessor.......2003-07-30
This album, which became John Hiatt's highest-charting at the time, came right after his two masterpieces "Bring The Family" and "Slow Turning".
And it does feature its share of fine songs, especially "Child Of The Wild Blue Yonder", "Back Of My Mind", and the lovely ballad "Bring Back Your Love To Me".
The title track is okay, too, although it does feel a little bit monotonous after a while. But too many of these twelve songs lack that little extra something that would have made them truly memorable...the hook, that special "groove". One really misses the superb, muscular rhythm section of Hiatt's best-ever backing band, Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and veteran drummer Jim Keltner.
Not that "Stolen Moments" is a bad album, far from it. It may not be consistent or accessible enough to rank among Hiatt's best, and it is not a good place to start if you're new to John Hiatt's music (that would be "Bring The Family" or one of his compilation albums). But it is certainly not one to be avoided, either.

Best of Ray Boltz.......2007-04-04

Moments for the Heart: The Very Best of Ray Boltz Volume 1 & 2
I heard "Thank You" sung by a Pastor at our church a few months back, and while he sung the Holy Ghost swept through the congregation. Wow. The entire double CD is timeless and a keeper.
Ray Boltz: An Inspirational Storyteller.......2007-01-30
This CD is truly the very BEST of Ray Boltz. From perhaps the best known of all his songs "I Pledge Allegiance To The Lamb", to "Thank You", the story of how one life can touch so many, to one of my personal favorites,
"Is There A Heaven For Me", they are all here! I am near tears every time I hear "Is There A Heaven For Me", the story of a child, cold and hungry in the street and the question she asks. Ray has given of himself to children like that with his work for Mission Of Mercy. I have personally seen Ray Boltz in concert twice, and this CD reminds me of those performances. He is a great singer, and wonderful man of God!
Mom loved Ray Boltz.......2007-01-16
I bought this CD for my mom for Chritmas because Ray's first song on the album, "Thank You" reminds me of my mom and what she has done for me. Mom loves the CD and plays it all the time.
Not Volz.......2002-07-25
Greg Volz was the lead singer of Petra, not Ray Boltz. Ray Boltz is a great vocalist and songwriter, but never an arena rock band lead singer!
