It's telling when an artist releases two self-titled recordings a mere seven years apart. Gill has a great voice, but for the most part he remains in search of good material and effective production. This eponymous effort for Motown (the first was for Atlantic in '83) is his best effort. Gill was simply the finest voice to pass through the New Edition aggregation. His impassioned baritone gives lust a rare urgency and repentance an unusual poignancy (if not outright credibility). The teams of L.A. Reid and Babyface or Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced the best tracks on this record, and "Rub You the Right Way," is a minor classic. Gill has yet to match this disc, but in the right company, he will. --Martin Johnson

Customer Reviews:
One of the best R&B CDs from the early-'90s........2007-06-20
Like his idols Marvin Gaye and Teddy Pendergrass, Johnny Gill proved equally adept at handling hard-hitting uptempo dance/club tracks and romantic slow-tempo ballads. The Hip-Hop flavored "Rub You The Right Way" was the big hit but the poignant ballads "Giving My All To You", "Lady Dujour", "Just Another Lonely Night" and the Quiet Storm classic "My My My" are this CD's real gems. Johnny Gill was simply one of THE best male R&B vocalists of the 1990s--as well as one (thankfully) NOT afraid to showcase his Gospel and classic R&B roots.
Badly underrated album that deserves to be heard.......2006-10-23
Not to be confused with his signature 1990 album, Johnny Gill's 1983 debut album might disappoint fans of New-Jack Swing, but certainly not those who love the bubblegum-type sound of early New Edition (which didn't feature Gill when this album was released). It did yield one minor R&B hit "Super Love", is well-produced throughout, and features two great songs in "Guilty" and "Half-Steppin." This album is difficult to find (even on tape) so if you see it, grab it.
Dynamic R&B album that Johnny Gill made in 1990.......2006-03-11
Johnny Gill's first album for Motown Records after a few albums for Cotillion Records was a superbly done, vocally strong album. Johnny's hits were unbelievable, about 5 within a year's time from this album. I didn't know that Johnny had it in him in the ultra funky Rub You The Right Way. Johnny's gruffs and the jacked up rhythms and beats clash so very well together in the song's electrifying 5 minutes! I still love the underrated hit Fairweather Friend, which has such a cool yet aggressive kind of groove and rhythm. This album had Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis as well as LA and Babyface-produced songs, though there were some other names that were involved with this album. You can tell which ones are which with their distinctive sounds. But the performances are unbelievable, as Johnny sings with so much soul on songs like the sexy, romantic My, My, My, Lady DuJour, Never Know Love. I really like the album version of Wrap My Body Tight than that sloppy remix version that they made for the radio. The album version is funkier than that remix. It sounds very close to Bobby Brown's songs, but this is a Johnny song. Johnny's later '90s albums are good, but they are no match to this album, a sonic display of raw talent and vocal growth.
MY,MY,MY WHAT A GREAT ALBUM.......2005-09-12
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE ALBUM FROM START TO FINISH. YOU DON'T RUN INTO GOOD ALBUMS LIKE THESE ANYMORE. JOHNNY GILL HAS SUCH A STRONG VOICE. EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM IS GOOD. JUST PUT THE CD IN AND ENJOY. YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED. THE ALBUM WAS WELL PRODUCED. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR R&B CD COLLECTION.

The thrid time is the charm.......2005-04-12
After releasing two unsuccesful solo CD's, Johnny Gill came into promise when he joined New Edition for their 1988 4x plantium CD Heartbreak. Johnny Gill re-established himself as a solo artist in 1990, and he did so in tremendous fashion, recording an astonishing self-titled debut for Motown that brought together the hitmaking duos Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and L.A. & Babyface to produce an album chock-full of hits. The combination of these two duos was unprecedented. Along with Teddy Riley, they had dominated late-'80s urban radio, utterly and absolutely, churning out hit after hit after hit and co-defining the burgeoning new jack swing movement in the process. Gill likewise had recently experienced enormous success during the late '80s when, following two flat solo albums for Atlantic, he joined New Edition for its Heart Break album and its long run of hits, including "Can You Stand the Rain," a number one hit that featured him prominently. Thus it was only fitting that Motown's visionary teaming of these artists at their respective primes culminated in a set of wonderful songs, chief among them "Rub You the Right Way" (a Jam & Lewis production) and "My, My, My" (L.A. & Babyface). The former was a high-energy, pleading chart-stormer that infiltrated urban radio with brute force and sent Gill straight up the charts in the process; the song furthermore became a coast-to-coast club favorite - and remained so for years upon years afterward, standing tall as one of the definitive new jack swing anthems of the era. The latter was the yin to "Rub You the Right Way"'s yang; it became a quiet storm favorite and even crossed over to the pop and smooth jazz markets, reprising many of the same qualities that had made Babyface's own "Whip Appeal" single such an across-the-board chart-topper only a year earlier. While nothing else on Johnny Gill quite rivaled "Rub You the Right Way" and "My, My, My," the remainder of the album still had more than its fair share of highlights. There was a second round of singles ("Fairweather Friend" was another new jack stepper, "Wrap My Body Tight" another slow jam), as well as a couple of excellent album tracks ("Feels So Much Better" and "Giving My All to You") that could have been hits for anyone else

simply good music.......2006-12-21
johnny gill is the type of singer who not only can sing a song so well, but also puts a kind of style and poigniancy that you can only find in his music. though probably not well recognized, his early hits spanning from the time he joined the group new edition and even up to when he embarked on a solo career, are unforgettable. he has definately proven himself as to be a singing
virtuoso. it sure would be nice to hear from him again
Words can't describe.......2005-09-22
What can I say? He is in a league of his own and unfortunately, he's very underated. He has an extraordinary voice and it's magical and sexy and smooth. My My My would be my absolute ultimate favourite sexy song EVER. It makes me melt each time I hear it. Wow. Rub You The Right Way and Can You Stand The Rain are also excellent. This cd covers basically everything a Johnny Gill fan could want on the one spot. It's beautiful and great bedroom music. My My My.
Wonderful!!!!.......2004-02-11
This is an amazing cd I can't believe this cd contains the duets with Stacy L. I love her and I enjoyed the songs that they had sung together and I can't believe that they had put them on this cd I really do like this cd this is a wonderful cd for any Johnny Gill fan but it is missing songs like Block Party and Baby It's You w/ Stacy Latttisaw he and her were actually an item a long time ago but this is a very nice cd to have if you like Johnny Gill so therefore I would definitely reccommend anyone to buy this cd!!!
I LOVE this guy.......2003-03-22
Johnny Gill is such an underrated singer. His voice is like silk. I know that sounds cliche but it's so true. He is incredible. When is a new album comming out from him. This album comprises of most of his best stuff (minus one or two other great songs that could have been on here), and if you buy this, you'll never regret it. He's one of the best singers ever.
He Is The Best Of Our Era.......2002-11-12
Johnny truly represents what a true R&B Singer is! His rich sensual voice has the power to give (anyone) CHILLS!

Album Description
There are "hits", and then there are "Number Ones." Lots of groups get a "hit" here and there, but not that many ever reach that next plateau. New Edition reached it, bought a land deed, built houses, dug gardens and grew Number One Hits like it was no big deal. Few other recording artists can claim the impact or the longevity that New Edition has realized collectively AND individually.
All The Number Ones is a testament to that fact.
Customer Reviews:
New Edition CD.......2006-08-07
I have been looking for the song " Sensitivity" for a long time and found it hard to find a CD with this song on. Using Amazon I was able to find it and gained some Bobby Brown songs as well. I didn't have to wait long for this product and it was in top condition.
Music to get you into the mood!!.......2006-06-25
This CD was ok. I bought it used so I was a bit disappointed when it came with a broken CD case, but nonetheless the music wasn't distorted. Some songs I liked were: Can you stand the rain, don't be cruel, on our own (Ghostbusters!!), johnny gill's my my my and more!! I like boby brown's and JOhnny Gills songs better so maybe I should've bought their Cd isntead of this New Edition "hits collection".
One thing I didn't like was the mixes they made of some of the songs like Can you stand the rain (Lampost mix) and the My my my (single version). I wish they would've just stuck with the original mixes. That's what makes these songs so great, but now that I have the ugly versions, I don't think so.
The very best and beyond!.......2006-05-11
As it appears to be in the photos contained in the album,New Edition has been upgraded to a sextet. We hear all six overall New Edition members Bobby Brown,Ralph Tresvant,Ricky Bell,Michael Bivins,Ronnie Devoe and Johnny Gill on this great collection of number one hits. Not only do we hear the group's recordings,we also hear Brown's solo hits,Tresvant's solo hit,Bell Biv Devoe's(Bell,Bivins and Devoe) solo hits and Gill's solo hits(one of them is a duet with Stacy Lattisaw). Let me just state for the record that the Gill/Lattisaw duet is not PERFECT COMBINATION. Instead their recording of WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? appears in this collection. So technically, this is a six-artist album,if you include Lattisaw. This collection could use 1985's COUNT ME OUT and 1986's EARTH ANGEL. Brown's solo career began in 1986 with KING OF STAGE. KOS spawned GIRLFRIEND,a beautiful slow jam. When his second album DON'T BE CRUEL was released in 1988,Brown catapulted to superstardom. 1990 saw Tresvant's solo self-titled debut and also the debut of the spinoff trio Bell Biv Devoe. The trio gave up crooning for hipping and hopping. After Brown's departure from NE in 1986,Gill filled the vacancy. Brown made headlines in 1992 when he took Grammy-winner Whitney Houston to be his lawfully wedded wife. Despite their involvement in violence and drugs, they are still married today. CANDY GIRL,from NE's 1983 debut of the same title, sounds like a Jackson 5 recording. Doesn't the voice resemble a pre-teen Michael Jackson? From the group's sophomore self-titled album released the following year are COOL IT NOW and the Ray Parker Jr.-written and produced MR. TELEPHONE MAN(indeed, that song has the sound of Parker's band Raydio). CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN is from 1988's HEARTBREAK. The other songs are excellent!
Tha Bomb!.......2005-12-04
I ordered this album from Amazon.com based on the reviews and I must admit, that I was not disappointed. Matter of fact, I let my cousin and sister listen to it and they both felt the same as I do, this CD is the bomb! It is not a New Edition the group number one, but a compilation of all the number one album from the group and individual artists. Although, I must admit, I have never been a Ralph Tresvant fan, I still think that this is a wonderful CD.
Why Isn't the Number Ones In Your Record Collection.......2005-08-18
Talented as a unit and as major soloists. Who doesn't find themselves singing along to ever tune. Every number 1 makes your toes tap and takes you to a happy place where you first heard the hit or had a similiar experience, thus connecting with their lyrics. New Edition, a band known for their superior live performances, never disappoints on wax - so give them a chance or twelve. As they matured, however, N.E.'s music did the same, reaching its glorious apotheosis on their '88 album N.E. Heartbreak. This album's triumph comes down to six elements: Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, BBD, Bobby Brown and sterling production and songwriting.

It's worth it for "Give U My Heart".......2007-02-08
The first track seems to be hard to find anywhere else but here, and so for the wonderful songwriting talents of Babyface, the album was worth its secondhand purchase price.
The other songs are listenable, but not exceptional.
Boomerang is still #1.......2006-03-21
This is my message to everyone who does not own Boomerang the Soundtrack or the movie; PLEASE GO AND PURCHASE THEM. This movie is a classic and the CD. The funniest song is by Grace Jones, she makes me laugh like crazy, but her lyrics go along with the movie itself. Listen to "Reversal of a Dog", which talks about how Eddie Murphy was dogged out or what is called reversal of another dog whom is Robin Givens. The most romantic songs are by Johnny Gill called "There U Go" and by Keith Washington called "Tonight is Right". This is just some beautiful music! I had both the movie and the soundtrack on what we consider modern day recording VHS and cassette tape. I replaced them with DVD and CD. You know the strangest thing that I realized with the movie itself is the fact that the way they dressed back then or for that particular movie is kind of how some of us still dress for our corporate jobs or to go out on a date in 2006. Some folks are still rockin' Halle Berry's signature haircut, sporting the Robin Givens type hairstyle or hair weave, the tailored fitted business suits. Funny! Enjoy that movie and its CD, they are must haves for your your collection. Can you believe that Boomerang came out in 1992, wow that was about 14 years ago. Amazing!
Grace Jones at her best, vocally. .......2006-03-09
This soundtrack is somewhat mediocre. Most of the songs are typical r'n'b cuts, but unfortunately, the album overall fails. Toni Braxton wasn't a star yet, Boys II Men hit it big time with "End of the Road" and Grace Jones' "7 Day Weekend" remains the highlight of the entire album. Most of the songs are boring, except Braxton's and Jones' tracks there really isn't much to shout hooray for. Mediocre at best.
Sticking to the Script!!!.......2005-05-23
This was the era of conceptual soundtracks. Once you hear the selections you instantly remember the movie itself. The music and songwriting is so infectious, due to the combination of great artist such as Babyface, Toni, Keith Washington, BoyzIIMen, and sticking to the emotions of the script.
The cohesiveness of Face and Toni Braxton starts this disc off very strong with the feel good upbeat "Give U My Heart" (sexy & submissive).
"Tonight Is Right" had every guy working on getting their sound system real sweet at home and tweaking the lights perfectly to woo that lady just as vintage Eddie Murphy has done in the flick.
The airy "I'd Die Without You" is phenomenal while "End Of The Road" is probably the biggest slow jam of the early 90's. It was the classic end of the night song at the skating rink (couples only-backwards skating).
The sensual "Feels Like Heaven" is very hot, yet another classic slow jam tape essential. Newcomer Toni Braxton puts it down on "Love Shoulda Brought You Home", the performance was very seasoned. It portrayed so much conviction reminding us that the things that we have right at home . . . most often are the best things (especially if Halle lives there).
As a real boomerang's flight comes back full circle, I hope that our music someday return back to its moments of truth (Music with substance). Until then I feel good that I can always select the Boomerang soundtrack in itunes and reminisce on those days.
A must-have CD for music lovers of 90's R&B
Great Soundtrack. Great movie!.......2005-03-05

R&R.......2007-04-01
I have had this CD f-o-r-e-v-e-r and I absolute love it! When I need to unwind or just have some nice background music going...JG is the man! I even used to listen to this CD while taking my math exams in university. [My professor was a dream and understood math anxiety.] It was the only thing I found that would help me not have anxiety/panic attacks during those exams.
Wonderful effort; Johnny gets a little mellow on this effort too.......2006-03-13
This is such a wonderful effort. It consists of mostly ballads, but Johnny Gill pulls it off on all the songs. Sometimes, Johnny gets a little mellow on some cuts given the maturity and adult romantic feel of the songs. I still love the gorgeous Let's Get the Mood Right. It makes for good music to hear in the bedroom late at night. Other favorites are Touch, Maybe and Having Illusions. I love the sexy It's Your Body and the late Roger Troutman of Zapp being on it. One of Roger's best of his final performances when he was alive. It still surprises me that he would follow the somewhat uneven Provocative with this well sung, well performed effort. Staying true to himself and his vocal style is what makes his third Motown album my second favorite album by him.
Yes Johnny!.......2005-10-12
I owned this CD when it came out, somehow it got lost when I moved. I could not help but try to find it again. This is grown folks music for real! I love Johnny Gill's voice and his style. He has a gospel tinged voice and he knows how to use it.
I do long for another J.G.album. He is deffinately a talented man who has been blessed with an incredible voice.
This album is awesome and a true mood setter for a husband and wife on a romantic evening!
It's a classic and I am the proud owner!
JG at his best.......2005-04-12
Johnny Gill is once again in top form on his fifth solo CD, a feat which many artists only wish that they could achieve. For this CD,Mr. Gill enlisted producers such as Babyface, R.Kelly, Tony Rich,Jam & Lewis and Mr. Gill even does some production and writing himself. Stand out tracks include Let's Get The Mood Right, Maybe, It's Your Body, Someone To Love and Love In A Elevator.
amazing!!!.......2004-02-11
This is a masterpiece this is a great cd from start to finish Johnny delivers on every song on this cd and I really do enjoy this is a nice cd to listen to when you are making love to your man or either taking a nice bubble bath I really do like and enjoy this cd so therefore I would recommend anyone who likes Johnny Gill to purchase this cd it really sets the mood right this is a very overlooked underrated cd so therefore do yourself a favor and purchase this cd !!!

As good as any R&B group this Decade........2007-06-23
4 Good tracks.
Come Home With Me
That's Why I Lied
Re-Write The Memories
Wildest Dreams *This is the standout song. Very nice retro sound*
Very smooth and jazzy and with a dash of hip hop thrown in.......2007-05-23
Wow,I slept on this CD for almost 3 years. I originally bought it and only listened to Hot2Nite. It was my favorite song when it first came out. That was enough to get me to buy the whole CD.
Anyways some years later, I am driving down to NC and pull the CD out from the side storage. The interludes were bad but a majority of the album is a banger.
You heard a little bit of BBD and Ralph and Johnny did their damn thing. I think one of the joints features Ralph, Ricky, and Johnny sharing lead vocals. Won't no grand standing with the vocals. E'erbody accepts their vocal ability for what it is.
Come Home With Me is in my Top 10 of favorite love songs. This is probably the best R&B product Bad Boy ever released but didn't know how to market.
BTW...Bobby wasn't missed.
If you don't have a favorite NE member, definitely get this for your collection. Very smooth and jazzy and with a dash of hip hop thrown in.
I will always be a NE fan.......2007-04-24
I have to admit that I was very disappointed with this CD but I still bought it because I am a big NE fan. I think P. Diddy- Puffy- whatever- really got this one wrong. You can tell that there was no money or real promotion/publicity put into this project.
Johnny Gill was pretty much missing on the entire cd. I don't know why P Diddy would think that his sound would not reach a younger audience. I think everyone realizes talent. Anyway NE has a true fan following and the producers they use should remember that when they introduce any new music.
Horrific.......2007-02-06
I can't believe I'm about to type this about my beloved New Edition -- This album is horrific. I tried to pawn it off on a friend and it ended up back in my collection without a word. You know its bad when you don't even hear this played on Boston radio.
I'd like to formally blame Sean Combs for this garbage. Instead of working with N.E.'s talent and fan base, Combs decided that he wanted to try and pass these guys off as 112 -- nope, nada. New Edition is too good for this and this album upsets me to no end.
When word came out that Combs signed them on to Bad Boy Records I had a moment of silence -- that was the worst thing they could've done. Honestly, I wish they could've signed a deal with J Records -- Clive Davis has a golden touch with long standing groups/singers -- see Santana! This album seems as though it was thrown together without much of a second thought.
I also heard an interview in which Johnny Gill said that Combs didn't want him to sing much on the album b/c he sounded too old -- he is trying to reach out to the younger set. Hi, the mid-20s to late 30s crowd grew up with these guys and have stuck with them for years. This is a classic example of courting the younger listeners not realizing that the established young adults that have always loved NE are the ones that will be there two/three years after the fact.
My advice -- get the New Edition "Hits" album and have a tour down memory lane. Don't upset your self, and your stomach, with this hot mess.
No love given for One Love.......2006-01-10
This album was okay, the best song being "Come Home With Me". But if you saw their "Behind the Music", you know that even they didn't like this album much. Diddy had them singing all of these "younger generation" songs when they were grown men. And this album wasn't promoted enough; looks like Diddy was saving all of his muscle for pushing that new Biggie album.

It Never Gets Old.......2005-05-22
You couldn't ask for a better collection of johnny Gill Songs.. This album is so comfortable to listen to and you don't have to wait till midnight to listen as it has a few up-tempo tunes like "I got you" featuring former Label Mates Boyz II Men.
The album takes you back to a classic era in R & B with the cuts "Can You Stand the Rain" in its original form(yes with the birds and water) and hits "Lady Dejour" and "Lets Spend the Night".
We then venture into the later johnny years with "Lets get the mood right" "Someone to Love" and the previously unreleased version of "Your Body"(Mario Winans remix) is better than the released version just check it out you won't be dissappointed..
this album definately lets you know that johnny is a timeless voice and his material stands the test of time...

Of the six young men who have been part of the New Edition, Washington, D.C.-native Johnny Gill has far and away the best voice. And 1990's Johnny Gill is still the best album anyone connected with the New Edition has ever made. Provocative revisits the formula of that triumph--handing over the creative responsibilities once again to the two hottest songwriter/producer teams in R&B, the macho Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the romantic L.A. Reid and Babyface. This time, though, we get the formula instead of the triumph. All the pieces are there--the roof-rattling vocals, the industrial-strength beats, and the sumptuous synth harmonies--but there's no sense of a personality behind the machinery. Gill proves that he can growl and shout in sync with the slamming beats like any neo-disco-man, but Lewis's lyrics sound like the lines that single men on the prowl serve up in bars, and there's nothing in Gill's vocal to indicate that the words are anything but a line. Gill is still an impressive singer. "I Got You," written, produced, and sung by Boyz II Men, is blessed with appealing melodies and lush harmony singing, and "Long Way from Home" by L.A. Reid and Babyface is a truly romantic song that finds Gill finally opening up his heart to reassure a distant lover. He'll have to do that far more often if he wants to create the great soul music his voice makes possible. --Geoffrey Himes

My My My - what a voice @}->---.......2006-03-15
While there is no song in the universe as beautiful and as sexy as My My My, this is a fantastic effort for the next cd. The best song on here is Cute Sweet Love Addiction. I love it - it is cool and upbeat and basically just fun. The Floor was such a big hit for obvious reasons - it's tight and very funky, but the best ballad is Quiet Time To Play. It's in that song that I think he works his vocalls the best and shows off his incredible skills. I love Johnny and this is one of many of his albums I own. I really recommend it because of the mix between fast music and sexy bedroom ballads.
Good effort, though not as strong as Johnny Gill.......2006-03-13
This album is good, but lacks the excitement of Johnny Gill from 1990. I liked the stomping feel of The Floor, the funky I Got You with Boyz II Men and the rapidly paced song Provocative. But my favorite is the ballad Tell Me How U Want It, which I still like to hum along to. It's really my second favorite ballad from Johnny after My, My, My. Very soothing and comforting song in its lush relaxing sound. The rest of the album is mostly filler and would have been better sung by an underrated R&B male singer struggling to get his single higher than No. 54 on the singles charts. But that's what it's like, when a stylistic artistically done song gets passed on by a commercially slick keep it to 3 minutes song. Johnny has made better songs than the filler that takes about 5 songs. It will take you days to figure this album out because of its unevenness.
Johnny Gill once again pleases with the ballads.......2005-04-12
Johnny Gill has always been best at ballads and is easily regarded as one of the best balladers of all time. His follow up to his 1990 CD didn't impress me as much but he's in top form on track 6-10 where his smooth vocals and amazing range are best suited.
Will someone give this man a record deal?.......2003-04-04
Johnny Gill is a storm waiting too long to happen. Ever since his debut in the early eighties, his is a talent that has not been recognized by the masses. His modest successes as a solo artist, a duet partner (with Stacy Lattisaw), and a group member (New Edition) have yet to make him the superstar that he so richly deserves. The title of "Baby Luther" is warranted for he and Vandross share the same quality of interpreting a song.
"Provocative" shows Gill in a variety of formats, from dance ("The Floor") to romantic ballads ("Quiet Time to Play") to the sacred ("I Know Where I Stand"). It's on the latter that Gill presents a voice that is destined for the stage.
A fun ditty is "A Cute, Sweet Love Addiction", written by Jam & Lewis, paying homage to Tyrone Davis's "If I Could Turn Back Time".
A Fabulous Album.......2003-03-04
I love this album, it is as good as his 1990 album. My favoorite songs are "A Cute, Sweet, Love Addition", "The Floor", "I Got You", "Provocative" and more. Johnny show a lot spunk and energy here, you can tell he is having a good time. They did a really great job on the production of this album, it whips azz compared to most pop/r&b around now. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys soulful, funky, sexy, & smooth R&B.

The best of our Era.......2002-11-12
Johnny Gill is the ultimate ballader of our time! His sensual style can make any occassion special. He has a voice that can with stand the test of time. There are not a lot of REAL singers left in R&B music, but rest assure that Johnny headlines what is left of the true culture of Rythym & Blues!
My man! Where are you now?.......2002-03-16
Hot, old-fashioned R&B, the stuff hot nights are made of. And I'm talking about the getting ready, the walk to the car, etc. Not let's just straight in the bed... Long before "Feeling on your booty" by R. Kelly; there was "My, My, My --you sure look good tonight..." by Johnny Gill. This is R&B of the gentleman persuation. No gettin' naked here, just romancing his lady, and makin' me SWOON. It's all his greatest hits, with oddly, a Christmas song thrown in??? (ok whatever). This is fabulous. This man is underated and I wish he'd make a comback.
JOHNNY GILL IS THE MAN!!!.......2001-10-11
Johnny Gill was the man when this came out! God I miss his voice, he has got to keep making cd's!
I was never a complete fan of New Edition in the late 80's early 90's. However I consider NE Heartbreak to be their best CD. Part of that reason was Johnny Gill. Where Ralph Tresvant has the smooth silky falsetto, Johnny had the rough, sugar, sweet voice that would melt your drawers right off.
When this brother went solo, it was on...."Rub You The Right Way" rubbed me the right way in every way, "Wrap Your Body Tight" had that pop, funkiness to it and "My, My, My" -- well, if you know you what I mean, there is no explaining it.
The funny thing is I had the original CD's with all of these cuts, but I bought this one specifically for the car....(I have more car CD's than anything else). Go buy this and remember the good times! Enjoy!
If you're a fan, this must be in your collection!.......2001-06-20
Johnny is a great balladeer. I had to have this in my collection. It's all of my favorites on one CD. My all-time favorite is "Quiet Time to Play" and it is hard to pick out a favorite.
Great Compilation..........2001-03-31
This is a wonderful compilation of Johnny Gill's best work. I think this was a a great move by his record label to release this cd of Johnny Gill's greatest hits. Johnny Gill has one of the most beautiful voices in R&B music today. Listening to his music takes you into a different world and leaves you feeling so good. My all-time favorite songs from Johnny is My, My, My, Quiet Time To Play, Where Do We Go From Here featuring Stacy Lattisaw and Give Love on Christmas Day which are all on this disc. This cd is a classic and will be around for a while.
Do you want to hear good, R&B music?
If you don't buy this cd, then you never will
