It almost goes without saying that only a churl would deny that every song here is a classic. Some may find that not every one of these songs has been played to death and that hearing them back-to-back only adds to the enjoyment. But what requires explanation is this: Why, with "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Baby Love," to name two personal favorites, just minutes away at any given moment on any given Oldies radio station, do you need this particular collection? A great compilation album creates its own special context, and 14 great Motown songs (Why only 14 when a CD will fit nearly twice that? It's not like there's a shortage of material to choose from) doesn't cut it. --David Wolf

4 out of 5 stars Very Good One CD Collection.......2000-08-03

There's probably not a collection in the world that is able to capture the full motown experience, especially not on only one CD. This CD, however, comes as close to achieving that goal as any I've listened to. This album, with everything from Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is," to the Marvelettes' "Please Mr. Postman," is a great addition to any ones collection, especially those who may enjoy but don't want to spend [that kind of money] on a larger motown collection. Although it may not be able to touch on all the bases, it's a well constructed CD and far superior to other one-CD motwn collections on the market.
