R. Kelly's third album indicates that he's got the range and the staying power of an R&B great. More importantly, it's the album where the libidinous stage persona of R. and his creator Robert finally come together, offering a glimpse of the man behind the libido. Kelly plays almost every instrument on the 16 tracks himself, delivering subtle variations of his laid-back rhythm and gently pulsing bass with lush walls of sound constructed from synthesized strings, keyboards and marimbas. At first listen, the melodies seem lazy and indistinct, but the hooks are sly and insidious, and they work their way into your subconscious. Kelly's voice is what keeps you coming back until they register. A sweet and supple instrument, it caresses the curves in the arrangements, stretching from a throaty whisper to an croon to a magnificent soaring wail. He's also made strides beyond the more misogynous impulses of the earlier records. Predecessors from Marvin Gaye to Prince have believed that there's nothing more spiritual than really great sex, and R. Kelly is makeout music that ranks with the very best. --Jim DeRogatis

For years, a not-insignificant contingent of Destiny's Child fans have been claiming that Kelly Rowland, not Beyoncé, was the diva to watch in that group--the one whose crystalline vocal gifts got piggybacked on. With that kind of underdog love, Kelly could have coasted in her solo career, cranking out batches of classy ballads and midtempo joints designed mostly to keep the faithful convinced they were right. Ms. Kelly, though, has some points to prove, foremost among them that this songbird can rock: "I told y'all I was gonna bump like thee-es," she boasts alongside Eve on the red-hot banger of a first single that is "Like This." Later, she sidles up to Snoop Dogg in the slinkiest way possible on "Ghetto," busts out the funk on "Work," and scissor-kicks expectations about the limits of her clean voice on "Comeback." As the disc rolls on, Rowland's friskiness mellows--"The Show," with Tank, puts the focus on the near-forgotten art of harmonizing and "Still in Love with My Ex" makes a sweet study of romantic regret. The closing track, a ballad a country crooner could have had a good time with, nevertheless gets to the bottom of why this disc is so worth shelling out for: The love Rowland sings about on "This Is Love" is "like a diamond in the sand"; so, we come to realize, is she. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars Finally! Great To Have Her Back.......2007-08-07

After that Destiny's Child disbanded, all of the girls persued solo careers. Beyonce's was obviously the one with most success, but Kelly Rowland's debut album "Simply Deep" was really good aswell and gave her the hits "Stole" "Dilemma" and "Train on a Track" (the latter a hit in Europe). The sound was much diffrent from what Destiny's Child though, mostly Rock-Pop and adult contemporary ballads, perhaps the reason why it worked better in Europe then in US?. Now, 5 years have passed since her 2002 debut and ever since we've been expecting a sophmore effort. The sad thing is that the tiresome delays of the album. Firstly scheduled in 2006 but cause of diffrent reasons it was pushed back time after time and while it did, many changed were also made. First off, Kelly was planning to record an album with mostly ballads and midtempo's but as time went by she realized that she had to make some more uptempo's and clubsongs to make her American audience satisfied aswell. Afterall, these are the songs that work best for radio airplay. So, she catered in a bunch of talented producers like Polow Da Don, Scott Storch, Tank and Rockwilder to make the album more accessable for the market. Now, we have 2 sides. The first are mostly well produced uptempo's and the second slower more emotional songs that are mostly ballads or midtempo's. How good is this album?. Read on to find out.

Maybe it was for the better to record a fair share of commercial songs aswell cause I don't think too many people would have liked an album full of hearbeat, on the other hand there aren't that many exceptional songs here either. Polow/Sean Garrett produced "Like This" with Eve was a top 30 hit and is really well suited for radio airplay and clubs with a basic but catchy beat and a welcolmed rap verse from Eve. Scott Storch produced the song with the fitting name "Comeback". Another decent uptempo. Tank produced "Ghetto" with Snoop Dogg. It's actually a slow-tempo where Kelly is whispering the vocals in the sexiest of ways and Snoop dropping rhymes that aren't for a +18 audience. "Work" was also produced by Scott Storch, but it kind of sounds like Rich Harrison with some old skool beat just like he did for Amerie. Another decent but rather repetitive song. "Flashback" is a midtempo resembling "Train on a Track" where Kelly looks back at times with her ex and the mistakes he made but she still wants him back. "Every Thought Is You" was produced by Rockwilder and it's another emotional midtempo where Kelly admits she's addicted to her man and want to spend every second with him. A ballad with Tank called "The Show" is just alright, but atleast we get to hear a great duet between 2 gifted singers.

Next up is "Still In Love With My Ex" dealing with simular issues like "Flashback", I'm in agreement with the reviewers that say that it's the best song of the album, I'm also crazy over it. Earlier this year there was a diffrent more beat-oriented version with a guest rapper of it that leaked, this one is more stripped down with without big arrangements but it gives the song a more emotional feeling and it's obvious that Kelly mean what she sings. "Love" was co-written by Beyonce's sis Solange. It's another midtempo ballad but I feel like the drums could have been more stripped down to match the piano melody better. The lyrics are rather bitter where Kelly seems to have given up on love after being betraied, but she's not the only one who felt like that at times. "Better Without You" continue with hearbeat after a bad breakup. It's a very sweet song that grows on you. "This Is Love" is accoustic more or less. It's not the most memorable of songs but the lyrics are good. On the European version there is a bonus song called "Gotsta Go" with Da Brat, it sounds alot like "Like This" but not as good.

Overall, I got to admit that I thoght the album was quite mediocre at first but after repeated listens I found it much better. I don't know how much hit potential it got, but it combines both catchy uptempo's with deep hearbreaking ballads. You got the songs to dance to with beat but without lyrics and the songs to feel emotion to without the beats but with the lyrics. "Miss Kelly" isn't spectacular but it's much better then you could expect. 3'5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars I love this cd!.......2007-07-27

This is the first cd in a long time that I can listen to all the way through without wanting to skip songs. I loved Simply Deep even more than this cd at first, so I was a little dissapointed. Then I decided to give it another chance and I was blown away. I am so happy that Kelly finally is proving that she is just as talented as Beyonce. My favorite song on the album is Still in Love with my ex, you can really feel the song because she is feeling the song as she sings it. Another favorite of mine is The Show, Tank can really sing, I mean I knew he could but I wasn't really convinced until I heard him in this element. Bottom line, buy the Cd listen to it a couple of times and you too will be blown away.

5 out of 5 stars This one definitely should not be passed over!!!.......2007-07-24

If only people could get their eyes and ears out of Beyonce's bootylicious behind, they'd see that Kelly really did put out an excellent album. The content of this albums is great. It may still not be the kind superstar creating work that people want to see/hear from her, but it's darn near close. The only thing this album lacks is another powerful dance track that would solidify her in the clubs. I think all you have to do to determine if this is a good album or not is to look at and listen to what else is out there. All those other artists who put out an album with one or two good songs and hope for the best. This album has great material all the way through. You should definitely give it a chance. Open yourself up and really listen to it a couple times..

4 out of 5 stars Was very Impressed Based on all the Bad Reviews!.......2007-07-20

I can actually listen to most of this Cd. I did skip over 1 or 2 tracks but overall I was impressed. I reallly thought that this girls album was gonna suck and for me it didnt.

Not earth shattering but most of the tracks I enjoyed listening to.

3 out of 5 stars Kelly Needs To Put In A Lil More Work.......2007-07-20

This cd was okay. I like Kelly's first cd better though. This one seems like she didn't put a whole lot of effort into her cd to make it great, just okay. There are a few catchy songs, nothing stellar. And the lyrics and beats fall under that same pattern. For the most part, everything just sounds like mediocre R&B and Kelly is capable of more. There is a lack of range and creativity that she displayed with the first album. Overall, Id say its worth a listen but dont expect anything great. Note worthy songs: Like This, Ghetto, Work

R. Kelly's rep could be considered controversial at best, but that's not to say the man who does for raunch what Beyoncé does for backsides (that is, caused the masses to arrive at a more multidimensional consideration) is not a fascinating artist. On Double Up, arguably his most sex-crazed, diabolically sleazy CD to date, Kelly grunts like a monkey, envisions a hot and heavy interplanetary romp, and indulges in NC-17-rated rhymes. Stylistically, the self-described king of R&B kicks up a hip-hoppy storm, spitting rapid-fire rhymes and tossing the 'n' word around too freely. But then there's the saving grace: that voice. Throughout a couple of inspirational numbers and collaborations with friends such as Usher ("Same Girl") and Nelly ("Tryin' to Get a Number"), Kelly does what he did so capably on the megahit "I Believe I Can Fly": he reaches even reluctant listeners with deep-seated sincerity. Even when he doesn't, he still knows how to capture catchy--first single "I'm a Flirt," for example, locks it up with a whisper and a wink. --Tammy La Gorce

1 out of 5 stars Songs for Pedophiles to Bump To.......2007-08-04

Sure, it sounds like I'm taking a cheap shot, but: I think that this album could play at any NAMBLA rally across the country and be praised! He just sounds like he's going to like high school dances and wanting girls to go to his "Sex Planet". Bleck, he's just nastee. Seriously, he's almost 41! How many guys are getting two girls ("Doubling Up") at once and aren't paying for them?!

5 out of 5 stars R. Kelly on your ringtone!.......2007-08-02

R. Kelly is a musical genius. To say that he's anything less is pure FICTION. From Rise Up to Ring Tone to Rollin', this album makes me wanna shake what my mama gave me. I work out to it, and take down the top of my convertible and roll with it. DOUBLE UP is the truth.

1 out of 5 stars WHAT THE HELL.......2007-07-31

I used to joke and say R Kelly sings so well he could sing about a tree and make it sound good, apparently too many people told him he could sing about anything and he believed it. I have always been a huge fan of R Kelly and it pains me to say this is one of the worst CDs EVER. He started to get on my nerves with singing conversations, but now it has hit an all time low. Real Talk was a surprise, but after you got past the shock it was completely awful as well as laughable. I'm not 30 yet and to me this CD should appeal to no one with an ounce of sense. Luckily I didn't buy this I heard it from someone else, this is not even worth burning off the internet, don't waste the CD and definitely don't waste the money buying it.

1 out of 5 stars I wish R. Kelly would shut up!.......2007-07-30

Okay... I have never liked R. Kelly and I never bought any of his albums before. I don't even really pay attention to any of the male R&B singers these days because, except for a select few, they all spit out the same tired mess and are just not distinct. But I actually liked the first two singles and I figured that since this album pushed over 300,000 units in its first week that it would have to be at least okay. Right? So I ignored the numerous negative reviews already on this page and bought it at a time of weakness. Do not make the same mistake I did!

There are way too many guest appearances here. (Twelve, if you want to get technical.) And I believe this is because R. Kelly was fresh out of ideas. I think that he did all this doubling up to swagger jack. You'll see what I mean after hearing "Tryin' To Get A Number" with Nelly. Mr. Kelly is trying to sound exactly like him... imitating him. He even kinda sounds like Usher on "Same Girl." But this is the least of R. Kelly's problems. The songs on here, especially the upbeat tracks, are so simple that they are almost monotone! Seriously, some of these tracks only use two notes on a musical scale. It's like he's trying to rap or something. The songs drag on to the point where it is unbearable. His melodies lack structure or a clear direction, which is really terrible if he wants to make his album almost 80 minutes long. His lyrics are absolutely bogus, seriously imitating monkey sounds, mentioning Charmin toilet paper... and this album has enough terrible metaphors to make and English teacher faint. His subject matter is extremely limited and quite disgusting. This is the biggest waste of money and I'm quite disappointed in myself. Even the two songs I initially liked have become played out and I will never listen to this again. I can't think of anything positive to say for this album. Please heed my warning and do not buy this.

2 out of 5 stars Music for the indiscriminate.......2007-07-26

This album is a symptom of a much larger problem as this is what passes for R&B nowadays. R&B has taken on the worst aspects of Hip-Hop radio style with every track being made to bang in the club rather than touch the soul. As the previous reviewer wrote, I too was expecting a little more maturity from a 40-yr-old with Peter Pan syndrome. Throughout this album I wasn't sure if Kelly was trying to get me to dance or just make me laugh. Tracks like "The Zoo" and "Sweet Tooth" are just to darn juvenile. A concept that you would think a person in his position would be trying to distance himself from. "Sex Planet" is just plain dumb and most of the songs dont say anything beyond the usual Rap themes of party and bull. The only saving grace is the tracks are banging so its okay party music to have in the backround if you can turn your brain off to the lyrics. My wife can do that, I'm cursed with the need for substance so I can't do that. 2 1/2 stars

Perhaps R. Kelly's brushes with the law have caused him to turn down his love light, since his seventh album Chocolate Factory takes scrupulous pains to show an idealized high-minded face of love, eschewing his usual steamy cocktail of raunchy lust and replacing it with a sweet, winsome romanticism. "I'll Never Leave," is a wistful valentine, while "The Heart of a Woman," is embarrassingly empathetic to the plight of the feminine kind and is hardly the kind of fare that one expects from Marvin Gaye's heir apparent. Despite his real life racy escapades, Kelly is at his best musically when he's an unrepentant bad boy but he doesn't even show any grit until "Been Around the World," his confessional duet with a rasping Ja Rule, the fretful bluesy "You Made Me Love You," and "Ignition," a paean to parking. Despite "Ignition"'s first line, "Girl, please let me stick my key in your ignition, babe" it's rather tame by the standards Kelly has set on his earlier discs. "Chocolate Factory" also includes 6 bonus tracks from Loveland the album that was slated for a 2002 release, but was ostensibly shelved after it was rampantly bootlegged on the Internet. Despite the disc's soft focus, Kelly is at the height of his vocal powers, and once he weans himself from the gooey sentimentality and returns to his persona of a smooth seductive operator he'll once again be an artist to be reckoned with. --Jaan Uhelszki

4 out of 5 stars R. Kelly- Chocolate Factory.......2007-06-06

This album is full just true R&B music. This is great to see R bringing back good R&B music. With this one it is not all sex or partying or getting high, which there is a time and place for all those songs. But with Chocolate factory he focuses in on the whole topic of Love. And he covers it pretty well. This is not a sexed up love story. This is just good vintage R. Kelly without all the party songs. There are a few party bangers here and there, like the massive hit "Ignition" and the soon to be hit "Snake", but for the most part we see R return to the R&B loverman that we are used to. Which is definetly a good thing with the climate of the party/dance R&B nowadays taking up all the airwaves. I mean i have never heard a better R song than the calming soothing love song "Forever More" which could possibly be one of the best songs he has ever made. Its one of those songs that just makes you wanna fall deep in love with someone. Then there is the sweet "Forever" and the candy like "Dream Girl". And of course the title track is just as sweet if not sweeter than these two. I mean this album hardly has any flaws. The only tracks that kept this from a five star rating are "You Knock Me Out", and "Whos That". Those two tracks just did not fit in at all with the mood of this album. Honestly i have not seen this type of R. Kelly in a while and its nice to see someone still is going to sing about love instead of the trendy hip hop/party r&b that has been hogging all the airwaves. Definetly buy this one!!!

Chocolate Factory is without doubt the strongest and best disc R. Kelly has ever done. Chocolate Factory not only returned Kelly to his SANGING roots but it also showed his growth as an artist at his creative peak. The first five tracks takes the listener on a musical journey that touches on everything from the beauty of a woman, stepping and aploiges. Other strong ballads include the marriage themed Forever and the sentimental Dream Girl. There's also the sexy ballad Imagine That which is text book R.Kelly and the HUGE single Igniton and it's remix. R. Kelly has yet to top this disc but hoepfully one day he will.

The first single off of R. Kelly's TP-2.com, "I Wish," might be a moving memorial to a dead friend, but the main theme on his latest CD is sex. The first tip-off that Kelly has left the spirit world to concentrate on nookie is the CD title, which refers back to his mid-'90s smash 12 Play. Back then, Kelly made his name with a take-no-prisoners (if somewhat obvious) sensuality. Yet now this loveman sounds conflicted and ill at ease. He might offer to "Strip for You," he might lay claim for a girl who's "Like a Real Freak," he might even promise his lady "The Greatest Sex," but his manner is so tentative and so self-reflective it makes one wonder how hot the loving could really be. Kelly has been expanding his creative repertoire over the course of his past two CDs, and his latest motif is a sort of stream-of-consciousness style that constantly returns to the main thrust of the argument: a circular groove. At its best (the triumphant "I Wish"), this style is emotional and emphatic. At its worst, or when Kelly insists on using it over and over, it's the musical equivalent of having a drunk poke you in the arm repeatedly to make his point. On "Fiesta," Kelly literally builds a song out of this annoying rhythmic tic, and it's like he's on a treadmill, never getting anywhere. TP-2.com is raw and romantic, but it becomes too redundant to truly sustain the passion. --Amy Linden

5 out of 5 stars Modern Marvin Gaye.......2007-02-01

This is absolutley the best r&b album. You have to admire R's honesty in his lyrics. Lyrics such as "when you leave up out my room, you're gonna be wakin bowlegged". This is the best music to f%$! to. Love it!!

4 out of 5 stars 12 Play Part 2.......2006-03-07

R. Kelly's 12 Play from 1993 was one of his best albums in the catalogue, the second version of it released in 2000 wasn't as good as his albums flwless first album but it was good nonetheless. The both album's main theme is sex and despite some non-sexual songs like "I Wish" and "Storm Is Over" this song is mostly about that subject. While it isn't as good as 12 Play it's great compared to T-3 and an album to put on the purchase list.

It all starts with "Strip For You", a laid-back sexy song that suits R. Kelly perfect. "R&B Thug" is slicker and more uptempo, "The Greatest Sex" is fullfilling the album concept, but it's not among the better songs of this album. "I Don't Mean It" and "Just Like That" are both slow jams, the first one however is more romantic though. "Just Like A Freak" is another sex song, If you hadn't understood that? but this song feautures rap and latin influenced music and it's unique to this album. "Fiesta" is also latin-influenced and on this album version Jay-Z doesn't appear. "Don't You Say No" yet another so-so slow jam.

"One Me" is also a slow jam, I think this is one of the better. "I Wish" is defenitely the best, but ironically it's not about sex at all, but about friends that died. A hit single and a very touching mid tempo song when R. Kelly shows his best side. "A Woman's Threat" is a midtempo, and also single released I think. "I Decided" continues the sexy trend. "I Mean (I Don't Mean It)" is a midtempo where he perform backround lyrics for himself. "All I Really Want" is great soul, but it sounds more like a song made for Tyrese then the usual R. Kelly song. "Feeling On Ya Booty" is surprisingly good, but dirty. The last song "Storm Is Over" is the second best, only after "I Wish" and neither a sex song, it reminds me of "I Believe I Can Fly", a ballad that also feautures gospel choirs.

So, what's the verdict?. A good album defenitely, You knew the dilemma already before you bouht it, so don't expect this to be a "R Kelly" or "R" but surprisingly enough it features a few non sex single and they are actually some of the best on the entire album. It may feature a few too many songs (17 if we count the remix of "I Wish" and some are not as good as others, but on the other hand the high points lift this album to great votes. Not one of his best, but not too far behind. If You're New start with the eponymous "R. Kelly" or "R".

There's nothing bad I can say about this album.R Kelly is a musical genius. If you're looking for an album to make love off of ,this is the one.''12 Play'' is the best sex album of all time.I've nothing else to say.

4 out of 5 stars Good come back cd afer his first.........2007-05-21

Not all the tracks are great but, that is R&b most of the time. This came out in 1993 the early years of R&B so, songs like Sex Me, It Seems Like You Ready, Bump n Grind and my favorite, Your Body's Callin was all good because, it was the early days for that topic.

5 out of 5 stars R & B Music at it's horniest, sex on wax...............................2006-12-30

12 Play ruled the airwaves in 93. R Kelly killed all of his Aaron Hall impersonations from "Born Into The 90's" and dropped this classic baby making sex fest on wax.

5 out of 5 stars When Kelly was the man.......2006-12-10

I remember being twelve years old when the 12 Play album came out. At the time there really was no other male R&B singer doing it like Mr. Kelly expect for my boy Ralph Tresvant. As I've said in other reviews, R.Kelly's ballads are what make the CD work. Of course everyone knows the singles Your Body's Callin ,It Seems Like You're Ready, Bump & Grind, Sex Me Parts 1 & 2 but there was also the self titled track, the heart-felt cover of Sadie and the sentimental For You. The up-tempo stuff is really weak but the ballads are on-point.

5 out of 5 stars The Bomb.......2006-11-17

This CD is a must to have! Songs like Sex Me are interesting, if not challenging to listen to. But the beat is excellent. 12 Play being my favourite of this CD.

4 out of 5 stars The Pied Piper's Greatest Hits Volume 1.......2007-01-02

R.Kelly is one of the few artists whose fans have already made up their greatest hits collection over the years. Case in point my R.Kelly collection would have to include You Bring Me Joy, More & More, Step In My Room and of course Heart Of A Woman. Never the less this is still a good collection from one of the most talented men in R&B. on The R. in R&B Collection, Vol. 1 -- a best-of release that paints a generally favorable picture of the Chicagoan by focusing on his more essential recordings. Many of Kelly's well-known hits are provided, and they range from "You Remind Me of Something" and "Bump n' Grind" to "I Believe I Can Fly," "Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)," and "I'm Your Angel" (the singer's unlikely duet with Celine Dion). For the casual listener this is an all right collection but R.Kelly fans have already made their own R in R&B Collection time and time again.

5 out of 5 stars It's That SH**!.......2006-04-07

This is the best R&B greatest hits I've heard because for one it's by the "Pied Piper". There's a variety of hits he had like "Bump N' Grind", "Ignition", "Step In The Name Of Love", Thoia Thoing", "I Wish" and my personal favorite "When A Woman's Fed Up". This great for any occasion (except for church). Good for slow dancing and stepping game. Get this, bump this, play it all day, UNDERSTAND ME!

4 out of 5 stars not bad.......2005-08-09

not a bad collection at all..........BUT its missing songs.yes it just the first volume of a collection.but i think the older songs should have camed first.then the newer versions for the second volume.either way this is a great collection of contemperary R&B songs.with the rate of r-kelly he'll be able to produce up to 5 collections.besides usher, keith sweat, and maybe bobby brown you would be hard press to find a R&B singer who had such a huge solo career in modern contemperary R&B other than r-kelly.

now on to the album

1. Bump N' Grind-its ok but i prefere the remix

2. Your Body's Callin-oh man this was my jam,one of r-kelly's best smooth mellow slow jams.it was great to listen to in 94,especialy on my summer vacation in jamaica and the bahamas that following year.

3. Sex Me (Part 1)-love it

4. You Remind Me of Something-love it

5. Ignition [Remix]-love it

6. Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)love it hope they put the remix on vol 2

7. When a Woman's Fed Up-great song that got played to death.

8. Step in the Name of Love [Remix]its ok i liked the original better

9. Thoia Thoing-meh.....its ok

10. Touched a Dream-huh?? never heard it

11. Fiesta [Remix] - Jay-Z -never liked it

12. I Wish-the remix is better

13. Ghetto Religion - Wyclef Jean-never heard it before

14. Honey Love-its ok lol probably the first r-kelly song i heard

15. She's Got That Vibe-i don't think i remember this.....hhhmmm

16. World's Greatest-he tries to recapture the glory of i wish i could fly,its ok

17. I'm Your Angel - Celine Dion-never liked it

18. I Believe I Can Fly-oh my god the bane of my existence lol

i hope in vol 2 they add gotham city and the remix, ghetto queen, half on a baby, the remix to bump in grind among a huge list of other songs, and some people probably forgotten about.like slow jamz, born into the 90's,seems like your ready, homie lover friend remember that? lol.its true r-kelly's remixes was almost always better than the original.

all in all this is a great cd that barely touches the surfice
of r-kelly's career.

A double disc may seem indulgent after barely a decade in the biz, but after meandering through the commercial minefields of innocent fun (1992's Born into the '90s), pure raunch (1993's 12 Play), and pop crossover (1995's R. Kelly), Kelly has come close to the perfect mix--and if it takes two discs to do so, why not? There are still moments of indulgence (the forced theatrics of "The Opera"), and the occasional venture into mediocrity ("Did You Ever Think?"), but the sheer funk of tracks like "Home Alone" (a head-bobber featuring Keith Murray) and "Dollar Bill" (featuring--surprise!--Foxy Brown) allows you to overlook such cracks in the formula. Other bit players in this star vehicle include Cam'Ron, Noreaga, Jay-Z, Nas, and (yes) Celine Dion. --Rebecca Wallwork

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This album was the pinnicle of R. Kelly's illustrious career.......2006-04-06

This is truly "Kelly's Masterpiece" as one candid reviewer said. Starting out as a 'softcore' rapper in the early 90's, Kelly was quickly picked up by the media after his fiasco with his protege, the late Aaliyah. In later years, after both artists gained fame, Kelly came out with his third album that boosted his likelihood into a R&B superstar. Then, merely 2 years later, he comes out with this album, possibly his greatest achievement as well as one of the best R&B albums.

Disc 1

1. Home Alone (ft. Keith Murray) - 8/10

Very popular in the radio during the late 90's, this is a mid-stellar single showcasing Kelly's ability to share the spotlight with a rapper and producing a decent party jam.

2. Spending Money - 7/10

Equal to 'Money Makes The World Go Round' on Disc 2, this song displays Kelly's exploits on women desiring money.

3. If I'm Wit You - 7/10

Very calm song with repeated lyrics from 'Don't Put Me Out'. Nontheless, you can listen to the first verse and skip.

4. Half On A Baby - 10/10

This is Disc 1's best single. The lyrics are very deep, imaginative and soulful.

5. When A Women's Fed Up - 8/10

Classic. Sounds a bit like 'Half On A Baby' though.

6. Get Up On A Room - 6/10

7. We Ride (ft. Cam'Ron, Noreaga, Jay-Z & Vegas Cats) - 8/10

8. The Opera - 9/10

9. The Interview (ft. Suzanne LeMignot) - 8/10

10. Only Loot Can Make Me Happy - 8/10

11. Don't Put Me Out - 8/10

12. Suicide - 7/10

13. Etcetera - 7/10

Best Songs - Half On A Baby & The Opera

That is my candid review of every track. I've purchased this double disc in 2001 from Amazon and was pleased since. I've been a long-time R. Kelly fan and happy to say that this was, is and always will be his best work. I urge anyone who doesn't have this album to purchase it, as it is a limited edition.

This is a great cd with a lot of songs and comes with 2 disc it is much worth buying with some hits like "When A Women's Fed Up", "Half On A Baby", "Did You Ever Think", "I Believe I Can Fly" and some others i rate this album 20/10. Also there is "Did You Ever Think Remix" with more of Nas and that is what the vedios made from. PERFECT

Was very satisfied with my purchase. It arrived in top shape and the music was enjoyable.

3 out of 5 stars Needed to be a single disc.......2005-08-09

R.Kelly felt he was at a point in his carrer where he could do a double CD and have something to say, alas he failed. The disc first two singles Home Alone and Half On A Baby were huge on the radio, clubs and video venues back in 1998. I would've expected R.Kelly would have brought heat but it seemed like the whole theme of this CD was about nothing but money. On Disc 1 the stand out tracks to me were four were singles which were Home Alone, Half On A Baby,If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time and When A Woman's FED UP. The other two tracks that sttod out to me were One Man and Get Up On A Room. Disc 2 seemed like nothing more than filler.

I am currently going through some emotional trials and tribulations in my life right now. I went to the Father for support by focusing on the Word of God. But in addition to this, Kelly's CD has given me the inspiration I need through her lyrics to help me began the healing of my broken spirit. I highly recommend this CD and may the good Lord bless her.!

This is a great album, from the first track to the last. Kelly Price is supremely talented, and I wish I'd known about it when it came out last year. She is one of the few artists whose albums I will buy before hearing a single track - just off of the strength of her previous material. Keep the good music coming, Kelly!

I LOVE THIS CD. KELLY IS OFF THE CHAIN ON THIS CD. MY FAVORITES ARE #2,3,4,6,7,9,10,11. # 1 AND 8 ARE COOL BUT THE REST OF THEM ARE OFF THE CHAIN. SHE IS AN INSPIRATION TO ME AND #3 TELLS MY STORY. THANK YOU KELLY AND I PRAY THAT GOD CONTINUES TO BLESS YOU TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC AND SOUL STIRRING SONGS.
THIS IS A GREAT CD!! PLEASE PURCHASE ONE AND PRAISE GOD ON #4!!!!

3 out of 5 stars mixed review.......2007-06-08

I recently purchased Kelly Price's latest album, This is Who I am. I would like to share some of my thoughts regarding this CD. Let me preface this my saying Kelly has a superior voice and that is why I purchased the CD. She is incredibly uplifting; however, the duets on the CD ruined my listening experience.

The portions of the duet ballads where she sang were great and those portions that were sung by other people were subpar. For example, I LOVE that song "God is not dead" up until the point Joe Ligon sings. Maybe it's my taste but I did not care for his voice or Vanessa Bell Armstrong's. I bought the CD to hear Kelly...not these other vocalists. Their voices were much more old fashion than kelly's. As a listener and fan, I would recommend that Kelly do all the singing herself unless she has the opportunity to work with singers like Whitney, Aretha
or other people of their caliber.

3 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.......2007-05-07

We all know that this girl can SING!!! let's say that up front, however I did not like this CD. I think I was expecting a more traditional sound from her. With the exception of Healing, I did not like any of the songs on the cd.

Album Description

R. Kelly has had 26 Top 40 hits, won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2001 MOBO Awards, and his anthemic smash 'Ignition Remix' entered the charts at No.1. TP.3 Reloaded features a 5-part musical soap opera entitled "Trapped...In The Closet." In typical daring R. Kelly style he has experimented with the art of storytelling and lyrics to create something very unique. The concept behind the soap on "Trapped...In The Closet" comes from back in the day, when the radio was the only entertainment available. Families would sit round the radio to listen to shows and plays for evening entertainment.

3 out of 5 stars R. Kelly- TP3.Reloaded.......2007-05-28

Well i was really excited for this album. I was literally counting down the days for the release. And maybe that is why it did not appeal to me that much. I mean it was far from bad, but i built it up to much. I was expecting way better. He has changed his sound so much over the last few years from Chocolate Factory and TP2 maybe thats why it was a bit dissapointing. First of all the "Trapped In The Closet" set was cool for the first three chapters and then that got old real fast. But there are a few standout tracks dispite some filler. The perfectly produce "Kickin It With Your Girlfriend" is so mellow and relaxing with its mid tempo beat, while the same can be said about "Sex Weed" only with that signature sexy edge to it. But the mistake is when you get to "Girls Go Crazy". This song is down right awful, its like listening to dogs bark. Kells can do alot better than this. This album is heavily driven on sex and even for R this album has a little to much of it. I mean some of the songs are good but the obsession with sex does get old. The only time it really seems like he wonders away from it is for the not so appealing Trapped In The Closet series, which also gets old REAL FAST. The bottom line is that this album had some major anticipation and i did not live up to it. It was an alright album when most were expecting something way better. But thats not to say its not worth buying if you are an R.Kelly fan. Because despite it being a bit over the line on the sex tip, it still has some decent songs to be played. Only buy if you are a big R.Kelly fan!!!

3 out of 5 stars It does not start out with a bang it ends with one.......2007-01-11

After hearing Happy People, its certain that R Kelly needs to step it up or step off. Even though R Kelly is a great singer that leaves a definite impression with each album he makes, Happy People showed that he was not going to be the same. This album follows suit. Trapped In The Closet(chapters 1-5) is the best and most creative song R Kelly ever made. The story of infidelity(with more twists and turns than your average soap opera) will keep you listening to all 5 chapters of Trapped In The Closet with no hesitation. Unfortunately the rest of this album is not as spectacular. Standout Tracks: PLAYA'S ONLY(feat Game), HAPPY SUMMERTIME(feat Snoop) and SLOW WIND are all good club records. TOUCHIN with Nivea is a decent but explicit love jam but none of these songs is touching the epic Trapped In The Closet(chapters 1-5). Filler: Sex in the kitchen and Put my T-shirt on are flat out dull, Remote control is a dumb love jam with a corny concept, Sex weed and (Sex) Love is what we makin are just as bad as the titles and Turn it up is so wack it makes you hate reggaeton. Other disposable songs: Girls Go Crazy(if this what R Kelly and Birdman's Best of Both Worlds would have sounded like then the whole world dodged one hell of a bullet!), Reggae Bump Bump(just as bad as it sounds), Hit It Till The Morning(all those people on one record and it still sucked),and Kickin It With Your Girlfriend(ran out of ideas for a song). Bottom Line: R Kelly can do much better than this and if he cant its time for him to throw in the towel. Sure all 5 chapters of Trapped In The Closet are great but the rest of this album is not as great as Trapped In The Closet.

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2006-12-27

This is a really good CD. I enjoyed it. Most of the songs were good. 2 or 3 songs I really wasn't in to, but overall I really like it. I don't agree with what he does behind closed doors, but I do agree with his music. I will agree with other reviewers about this not being his best CD. I got what I payed for. It was woth it.

3 out of 5 stars Talent That Can't Be Denied.......2006-08-15

Everybody has something to say about Kells. One thing is certain: Brother could sing a song about Chicken N Dumplings and it would be catchy. No real hits, save "Slow Wind," which is TIGHT! Trapped in the Closet is unique, but won't make a CD. The sex tracks are beneath his demonstrated potential; give those to Omariando Houston or RayJay or Ying Yangs. Compared to what else is out, he is still the man. No other living popular R&B singer is close (Usher is a distant second).

R. Kelly is arguably one of R&B's most productive minds in years and the Chicago native creates music at a pace that few artists in any genre could keep up with. "Happy People/U Saved Me" serves as Kelly's own personal "Best of Both Worlds"--highlighting both the singer's love for stepping (a Midwest-based dance craze) and need for salvation. "Happy People" is the more upbeat of the two discs with Kelly taking on the persona of the Weatherman, a DJ on the fictional LOVE radio station. The album's title track and lead single is a perfect introduction to its infectious sound. Similarly, the midtempo groove of "Red Carpet (Pause, Flash)" will have stepping experts and novices headed straight to the dance floor. While the recurring stepping theme quickly becomes repetitive, you can't help but groove all the way through.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said for "U Saved Me." The message-heavy disc sacrifices Kelly's raw talent for melodrama. Songs like "I Surrender" and "Prayer Changes," while expressing a sincere sentiment about believing in something greater than yourself, are a little overwhelming. That said, this disc's title track is a rousing musical tale of overcoming obstacles with the help of God--complete with a rising choir. In the end, "Happy People/U Saved Me," like most double albums, has both its highs and lows. --Rashaun Hall

5 out of 5 stars You Saved Me.......2007-05-15

R. Kelly really put his heart and soul with this one. I listen to this CD everyday because it reminds me of how faithful God is and whatever I am going through he is protecting me from evil. Thanks R. Kelly for allowing God to use you in such a powerful way.

1 out of 5 stars Praying or Preying?.......2006-05-30

R. Kelly doesn't know if he wants to be a vulgar-mouthed street-thug, or a gospel singer, so he tastelessly does both (or tries to) on a double cd. Mixing God's name in with filth is sacrilege, but I guess it isn't any worse than preying on impressionable, naive, insecure 12-year olds.

5 out of 5 stars BEST ALBUM.......2006-04-25

5 out of 5 stars TIME, AND TIME, AND..........2006-03-10

time , and time and time again have we heard musical greats of R&B, ranging from the the lively 'unleash the dragon' by Sisqo to the slow pased 'Africa' by D'Angelo (for those who truly think this IS an R&B song)
And throughout these times there hasn't been many an R&B artist who has lingered into the topics of spiritual faith and religion.True, there has been singers like destiny's child who have dedicated one or two of their songs to religion, but in account to my personal knowledge of R&B I cannot recall by memory anyone, Anyone within the realms of rhythm and blues who has produced an album based entirely on something that is most probably a true side of the artist himself.
I mean, with a career spanning for over a decade now one would have expected spiritual artists like himself to be thankful for what they believe in. Besides the songs being great (for both albums, the albums fucus on the same themes throughout. a little monotonous in my opinion, but very origional.
