Gone, But Still Missed.......2007-06-13

With R&B these days, it seems like many people would rather listen to an artist that doesn't have as much talent today, as they did years. That is why acts like the overexposed and disgraced Paris Hilton, and alcoholic Lindsay Lohan try to dominate the industry altogether. However, acts from the past aren't really being reintroduced today as much as I think they should. For Angela Winbush, who hasn't made anything new in almost 15 years, has often been overshadowed. Even then, she was also overlooked in favor of soul divas Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Yet, with all the great beats Angela recorded, she still is missed, and this hits record shows how good a R&B icon she is.

The 2001 Angela Winbush Ultimate Collection, is a single disc retrospective of her era through the 80's and 90's, and on not just her solo achievements, but her days when she was a part of the duo Rene & Angela. The songs here have all been remastered well, and sound much better than they previously were released. The collection includes great tracks that were hip hop influenced like I'll Be Good and It's The Real Thing, to the soulful and sensual Treat U Rite from her self-titled last record, 1993's Angela Winbush, and her rendidtion of Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues. The collection also includes her works with her ex-husband Ronald Isley from the Isley Brothers including Floatin' On Your Love, and other great songs from her era including You Don't Have To Cry.

All in all, it is still very sad Angela Winbush hasn't made anything new in several years and she is definitely missed. I just think a lot of great acts today, could learn a whole lot from a diva like her. This Ultimate Collection is a great buy for die hard fans, and works nicely as a reintroduction to Angela's career that does treat her and others right. I absolutely recommend this album.

I RECEIVED THIS CD A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I JUST LOVE IT!!! IVE ALWAYS LOVED RENE AND ANGELA AS A DUO BUT I LOVE ANGELA WINBUSH AS A SOLO ARTIST ALSO, THE SONGS ARE EXCELLENT R&B, AND THE VOCALS ARE EQUALLY GREAT, I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM TO ANYONE WHO MISSES THE OLD R&B SOUNDS BACK IN THE EIGHTIES AND NINETIES!!!!

When I first purchased this album years ago, I cried at the sheer passion and emotion that Angela Winbush put into every song. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, all of these so called female artist really need to sit back and let a real women do her thing. Angel Winbush can sing an Angel out of heaven. Lord have Mercy on anyone that does not recognize this artist as just that a beautiful God filled songtress, full of emotion and passion, integrity and authenticity. WOW what a singer and songwriter as well as musician. The real deal, the full package a real triple threat. Love this album, these songs prove that music used to mean some and if i ever get the chance to see her face to face i will be sure to tell her, what a reamrkable artist she really is.

In the 1980's, there were so many talented female artists, that many were overlooked. Angela is one of them. She wrote, produced and sang. She was part of Rene' and Angela and went on to a solo career and a 10 year marriage to Ronald Isley. I'll be good, Angel, Save your love, and others make Angela a hot underrated artist.

Angela Winbush was the Anita Baker of her time. An absolutely unmistakeable voice to say the least. Never to be duplicated or imitated. Why she didn't get the recogntion that Anita did is mind boggling. She did more than just sing. i used to work graveyard and one ofe the local stations had a midnight request line. I've lost count on the number of times I called and requested "Your Smile", "You Don't have to Cry". and "Angel". Classics for all time.

Whew!! I have about every CD and can remember when she sang with Rene. See how I wrote SANG!!! Because girlfriend could blow. On this CD the track "I've learned to respect the power". Will blow you away!! Let's hope Angela comes out with a new album!!

Angela Winbush is one of the few true female artist of our time. A voice so unique and rich with a tone that is truly her own signature sound. Many may not know but Angela is one of the best female producers of our era. She is also one of the most beautiful and sexy entertainers ever to grace the stage. If you got a chance to see her live...awesome ! This CD captures the sultry side of Angela completely. I would advise you purchase every song she has ever written including the hits songs that she produced for the Isley Bros. (Between the Sheets CD) and others. Angela where ever you are give us more ! Voice to be Reckoned With.......2006-02-25

For me, Angela has always had a voice to be reckoned with and this collection of love songs just proves the point. Somewhat overlooked, but never underappreciated by her fans, Ms. Wimbush blows the competion out of the water with this effort. And even though her voice is unmatched, her songwriting abilities almost overshadow it. These song are timeless and even though they have been covered by other artist, when Angela sings them you can tell, THEY ARE HER SONGS!!!

Angela Winbush by far is one of the most underrated singer/songwriter/producer of our time. Just when music was in a state of flux between gangsta rap and hip hop, Angela gave us an album of pop/ r&b sensibilities in "The Real Thing". Produced by her and executive produced by husband of the moment
Ronald Isley. Every song is top notch. Slinky, sexy and smooth. Everything from The Real Thing to I'll Never Be The Same is hot. Menage A Trois is a song about threesomes which she is not agreeing with. Why have three when you can have her?
I Learned To Respect The Power Of Love is a sensual track about the joys and pains of love. To me, I think Stephanie's version is a way lot better than hers due to the instrumentation. Angela's is wholesome while Stephanie's is more spiritually based. Overall, this is a dime album. Get it! Grade: A+++++

Angela Winbush wrote that song in 1976 for Alton McClain & Destiny and then it was topped in the charts in 1986 by Stephanie Mills. Finaly, Angie sang it in her 1989 release Its The Real Thing.

Personaly, I can't figure out which one is the betta version! Stephanie or Angela? I saw both ladies on the Apollo back in 2000 and they broke down while pre4ming that #. They tore the roof and people of all ages were crying after they finished the song.

I heard Angela's version last night and I noticed that while singing that tune at the end she hollered "Stephanie, let me tell ya about that power!" like both ladies have witnessed the same pain and only BOTH know what went down in their struggles.

Very Well produced LP and the lyrics are jawdropping! "Precious" is my FAVE jame from there.

A Lost Treasure Deserving of Discovery.......2001-12-02

I have yet to understand why the wife of superstar Ronald Isley has not received her due recognition. As a songwriter, she is in a class by herself and her distinctive voice is easily recognizable to all familiar with it. This late 80's gem is worth the purchase. The exemplary cuts are "Lay Your Troubles Down," performed with husband Isley, "Ménage a Trois," and the hit "I've Learned to Respect (the Power of Love)."

One of the most underrated artists of our time.........2006-06-02

As a previous reviewer stated, Ms. Winbush is way beyond just being a singer. She can produce, write arrange and sing! She is the total package. Although I didn't really care for the dated sound of the fast songs as much, the slow songs more than made up for them. Classics like Angel and Hello are worth the price of the CD alone! I have all of her CDs. Her writing and music seemed to get better with each album. I wish she would produce some more music. Her voice is truly missed in what the music industry is passing off as R&B these days.

A SHARP debut from Angela Winbush!.......1999-08-30

Angela Winbush's solo debut SHARP, is indeed a sharp piece of work. One half of the Rene & Angela duo, Ms. Winbush is an accomplished writer, producer, arranger, and an excellent vocalist. Her writing is R&B at it's best. Her later work with The Isley Brothers will prove that. On this excellent debut, the stand outs are the masterful ballads. On first listen, you'll be transfixed with the gut-wrenching ballads on the "Quiet Storm Side." You Had A Good Girl, No One Has Cared (Like You), Hello Beloved, and the hit, Angel, provide the steam needed for any romantic evening. Though the funky cuts on the "Slammin' Side" sound dated, Sensual Lover still holds up as a smooth R&B jewel. The other cuts were very good indeed for their time. This is a worthy debut from a lady as talented as they come. She's proven this on her two susequent releases as well.

No one has a grasp on contemporary adult R&B like Angela Winbush. On her fist solo album she creates an ambiance of self-assuredness, devotion, and warmth, which is quite a feat with the relatively cold, synth-heavy production that covers the album. The Isley Brothers-type steamy "quiet storm" ballads are the least dated tracks, although the faster songs on the first half of the album have a funky edge. If you want quality pre-New Jack Swing R&B from on of the '80s (and'90s) greats, buy this album

Too Good To Let Angela Go!!!.......2007-07-11

Here it is 2007 and I am still digging Angela Winbush. I once heard a saying "If you have not heard Angela Winbush; You must before you go to heaven!" There are no words to describe the beauty, talent and emotions this young lady put into her music. Although This is my favorite CD (TOO GOOD TO LET YOU GO); ALL her albums were underated HITS!!! Even the awesome producing Angela put into Isley Brothers 'SPEND THE NIGHT' CD was just awesome (it is also one of my most listened to CD's). There is no doubt Angela Winbush is the music industries hidden and most under rated artist. Too the music lovers if you are looking for excellent music and have not heard Angela, you need to check her out before you go to heaven. If you ever have an opportunity to see her in concert, GO!!! Brace yourself you will be blown away. Oklahoma Loves Angela Winbush...

I was introduced to some "real" music by my brother he skooled me to Angela Winbush,and it has been love since first listen.I also learned about Angela Bofill and Miki Howard, Maysa ,and Lalah Hathaway. If you didn't know , then you just got skooled!

Phenomenal album from Angela! .......2005-02-07

Angela Winbush really sounds soulful on this album that came out in 1994. This album was really overlooked in '94, but it had hits like the funky bass-heavy Treat U Rite, which had Angela having her hip-hop thing going on! But it gets better as she does a wonderful remake of Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues. Keep Turnin Me On is smooth sounding R&B at its best. Her duet with former husband Ron Isley is so silky smooth. The rest of the album is so top notch with Angela producing and playing the music on it. She's her own one woman thing on this album and she can write some dynamic songs! This is one of her best along with the '89 album. She is one of the best soul singers on the level of Aretha, Gladys, Patti and others!

angela winbush is a very underrated talented vocalist and multi talented performer,producer,writer,arranger,musician.a rarity among women in the music business.and before angela winbush did these talented feats,there was brenda holloway who did these same talented musical gifts in the 1960s with motown.now that was very rare 4 a female musician during that time period.other females in the music industry who were also with multi talented gifts include the beautiful patrice rushen and teena marie.i first discovered the name angela winbush in 1979,when she sang
as a background vocalist on "stevie wonder's journey through the
secret life of plants" and then a year later on wonder's 1980
album-"hotter than july"/and of course her 4 albums of duets with rene moore,of which i have their entire collection of.albums such as "rene&angela"(1980)which featured 'strangers again'/"wall to wall"(1981)which features 'love's alright'and 'imaginary playmates'/"rise"(1983)which features the beautiful single 'my first love'and 'can't give you up'/and their last album which was their biggest hit "street called desire"(1985)from there she went solo and recorded the albums "sharp"(1987)-"the real thing"(1989)/and this her third solo effort:"`angela"(1994)-which features the sexyfunk workout'treat u rite'and my favorite ballad of the album,the very beautiful 'keep turnin'me on'/other highlights include the cool'you're my everything'-'baby hold on'with ronald isley-/the dark,midtempo funkjam 'dreamlover'featuring the killer guitarist,ernie isley.'hot summer love'is another beautiful lovesong of which she sings about reminiscing days of summer and listening 2 jazz radio and summerlove of which angela gives a nod 2 chic's 'good times'/'sensitive heart'is a song about a woman needing attention and love in a relationship./'i'm the kind of woman'is a love galore-a woman giving her all-of which angela sings:'i'm the woman you need'...angela the more you sing especially the line:'everytime i kiss you,i get weak'it makes my heartbeat...because (YOU)KEEP TURNIN'ME ON....
