This album brought back memories!!! .......2007-01-10

Lisa Fischer (being formally a backup signer of the late Luther Vandross) had a phenomenal voice. Let's say that it was a voice to be reckoned with. I am absolutely shocked as to why she is a one album wonder. I thought that she was going to stay around and never leave (like Mary J. Blige--- which I love her too). I just chalked it up to being that she was not given the proper publicity on this album. Luther Vandross sang backup and produced a number of cuts on the album, but I felt that personally she should have collabrated with more various producers in addition to Luther to give her more edge and various styles on the project. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, not to mention Babyface at the time would have been excellent choices. I am just wondering what happened to her. Is she back into the corporate workforce, singing in nightclubs, or singing studio backup for other people? I am telling you... she has too much of a great talent to let it go to waste, and this is an excellent album to have.

She Can Sing.....But just didn't sell.......2006-06-25

First of all, if your wondering if this is a good investment to buy, let me say Yes...Lisa's vocals are timeless and if your a lover of Great vocal singers, then this is one of those gems that simply fell threw the cracks of the music industry. The songs are pretty good on this cd. Some of them have a Luther Vandross vibe which she does a great job keeping in line with the quanity of what Luther was about. I can't explain why she didn't blow up like Mariah Carey(though both have the same vocal power which includes an octave range from Mars) All I can say is if you like Mariah, then your gonna like Lisa, hands down.
Don't let poor management and lack luster record sales prevent you from adding this Collective cd to your collection.

There isn't much I can say without echoing other reviewers. These songs are fantastic, especially 'How Can I Ease the Pain' co-written by Narada Nichael Walden. That's one of only 3 songs I'd heard before getting this CD. Chain of Broken Hearts and So Tender absolutely blew me away. So Intense was aptly named.

Amazing Voice!!!.......2006-05-25

This CD came out when I was in the 10th grade and even though I was really young, I always have appreciated stellar singing and Lisa Fischer is just that- a stellar vocalist. Just like a lot of other reviewers whose posts I've read, I happened to hear "How Can I Ease The Pain" on the radio one day and realized that I no longer had a copy of this Cd so of course I immediately went out and bought it and it only made me long for something new from her. I'd love to hear what she sounds like now.. The only weakness that I find with this album is that some of the production is not up to par with Lisa's vocals but I can listen to all the songs because I just love the strength and tone of Lisa's voice. Stand out tracks include, of course, "How Can I Ease The Pain", "Save Me", "Chain of Broken Hearts", and my favorite is "Last Goodbye." The vocals are just pure, beautiful, and haunting in the last number. I would recommend this album to anyone who doesn't know that while we do have great vocalists like, Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, and Whitney Houston, there is a hidden gem named Lisa Fischer.....

I feel very fortunate to have bought this disc used from this site! I appreciate the follow-up comment from a previous poster regarding why after winning a Grammy, Lisa did not release another solo disc.

Her range, technique & the majority of the material on this disc are EXCELLENT!!!! When I listen to music from artists like Lisa, Regina Bell, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, etc I get a little sad because when they were at the top of the charts, we listeners had more of a variety of singers to choose from - each had and still has her own unique style.

The standout tracks to me are:

GET BACK TO LOVE - excellent production by the late, great Luther V allowed Lisa's beautiful voice to sparkle on this mid-tempo groove

HOW CAN I EASE THE PAIN - deservedly won her a Grammy, few singers in her era or in today's music scene could even imagine covering this song

SO INTENSE - beautifully constructed song

WILDFLOWER - excellent remake

Other great songs are: SOME GIRLS - sounds very Luther-esque but still enjoyable; SO TENDER & CHAIN OF BROKEN HEARTS.

If you are fiending for some terrific r&b sounds from an outstanding vocalist - get your hands on this cd!!
