Album Description

Goodies is the debut album from nineteen-year-old, Atlanta native, Ciara (pronounced see-air-ra). Signed to Jazze Pha's, new label Sho' Nuff/ Zomba, Goodies is the hottest debut urban album this year with production and guest appearances from Lil Jon, Missy Elliot, Ludacris and Petey Pablo. Take the best songwriters and the best singers, add the most exciting performers and the best all around personalities, throw in the hottest looks and the sexiest smiles --- mix them all together and the finished product would probably look and sound a lot like CIARA. The 18-year-old beauty from Atlanta is the latest multi-talented scene-stealer to nudge her way to center stage with attention-grabbing vocals, irresistible songwriting and killer dance moves. CIARA has found herself in the mix with some of the biggest and brightest producers, among them JAZZE PHA -- who signed CIARA to his Sho' Nuff label after working with her for a mere five days -- and his royal crunkness LIL JON, who produced the singer's lead single, the "cRunk & B" cautionary wrist-slapper "GOODIES" - featuring her legendary labelmate, the one and only PETEY PABLO. CIARA is the second artist (the first was USHER and "YEAH!") to release a cRunk & B track. In fact, CIARA co-wrote "Goodies" with "YEAH!" songwriter SEAN GARRETT! CIARA's self-titled Sho' Nuff/LaFace/Zomba Label Group debut is a heaping dose of real life issues conveyed through everyday language and extraordinary production and vocal delivery. In fact, this fresh debut is chock full of "Goodies."

3 out of 5 stars 3 1/2 stars - Fun & Enoyable........2007-07-06

When I first saw the video for Ciara's first single, "Goodies," I instantly (and unfairly) dismissed her as another indistinguished pretty face with an okay voice, just capitalizing on the new fad of "crunk music." Oh, was I wrong! Not only did she garner extreme success with that single, but her album went on to go triple platinum. After almost two years of denying how catchy "1,2 Step" and "Oh" were, I finally caved in and bought this album and I'm glad I did.

I'm not exactly sure why she was dubbed as the "princess of Crunk & B," because not one song other than "Goodies" falls into that category. (Marketing scheme, I suppose.) So as you can imagine, I was surprised with this mellow and fun album. Her voice is not anything special, but she works with what she has to a great effect. I commend her for her confidence and swagger. Not only did I love the previously released singles, (excluding the bland and sappy "And I") I enjoyed most of the album. My favorites actually weren't singles at all; "The Title" is a laid-back, summery mid-tempo and "Pick Up The Phone" is an infectious jam with creative lyrics. The production, mostly done by Jazze Pha, is good and most of the songwriting is great, also. Sure there are a few flaws and bland moments here and there, and no this is not the most deep music out there... but if you're looking for a fun and catchy album, you needn't look any further.

4 out of 5 stars A Dance Record.......2007-03-02

We all know that Ciara has a limited range and ballads are definitely not her strong points so right off the back that "And I" would be the worst track vocally. The rest of the album you could listen to when you're cleaning your house. But she's definitely growing as an artist so i do give her credit. The best tracks would be the singles that were released as well as " Thugstyle", "Hotline", and "The Title".

4 out of 5 stars Keeps you moving.......2007-01-11

The best song on the album is Oh featuring Ludacris. The beat is insane and Luda's rap is on point.
The hottest tracks are Goodies, 1, 2 Step, Thug Style, Hotline and the Goodies Remix.
And I and Other Chicks are 2 sweet slow jams - her voice is so small but it fits with these songs.
The other tracks are not as outstanding but are solid enough to round out an entertaining CD.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing great.......2007-01-02

Ciara debut album Goodies was met with a lot of hype, but she has yet to anything to really impress me to the point where I'd want to see her live, unless she was opening for an estiablished artist like Usher or Robin Thicke. The album yielded three hit singles Goodies, 1,2 Step and Oh. While all of these were great club songs they really didn't have substance.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2006-12-03

Unless you love dancing at nightclubs, you probably don't fully appreciate this CD. This isn't the sort of CD that needs deep analysis by reviewers or that contains deep thoughts about intellectual topics. No, it is dance music, pure and simple. And judged on that scale, I'd say it is a home run. I can't hear this music without wanting to dance.

Besides nightclubs, ther are two other locations where these songs really resonate - cranked up (volume high, not on drugs!!!) while driving at night and in the background while working out at the gym.

I would probably rate it at a 4.5 if there were such a rating, but I'd rather move it up to a 5 than down to a 5.

A worthy addition to any collection.

4 out of 5 stars Great Music, Crummy Packaging.......2007-03-20

As the owner of several discs in the Oldies But Goodies series for quite a number of years, I recently ordered an additional six discs to "fill in the holes" in my collection. Much to my dismay, all arrived packaged in flimsy, cardboard "albums", rather than the substantial jewel cases used for my earlier purchases. In addition, some of the color combinations used on the packages (gold on red/gold on purple) make it nearly impossible to read the artists names without holding the package under a lamp.
Try as I might, I was unable to find any information in the product details that mentioned the type of packaging. I intend to handle and play these discs for years, not just rip the songs to mp3's and load them on a hand-held player.
In the interest of full-disclosure, and to improve customer satisfaction, I believe Amazon should include product packaging information.

1 out of 5 stars Bad CD copy.......2007-01-17

I played this CD and was not happy. I had to return the item becasue it skipped really bad on almost every song.

4 out of 5 stars Ageless Goodies.......2006-11-10

My husband and I were high school sweethearts and these were the songs we would dance to. And like all teens back then we would rush home from school to watch American Bandstand.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I Found My Thrill~.......2006-06-23

I grew up listening to these oldies from our local radio station on a little transistor, (sister) luckily that my dad bought me in his travels, and my mom unplugged it from my ear every night!! This cd has some great oldies on it..."Bread and Butter" by the Newbeats is a classic!!!! I know my kids have gotten a kick out of that crazy, jazzy, falsetto, screeching blues voice on that rock and roll classic number as I sang along to the radio in the car~and thought I was nuts at the same time...it's in a league of its own. An early Brian Hyland is nice here, before "Illusive Butterfly of Love" fame~ My 14 year old who sings loves Paul Anka's "Put Your Head On My Shoulder"~and "Shake Rattle and Roll" was a classic Jitter Bug tune~ What is also interesting as I look at these top 10 hits is a social, cultural change...together on the charts was a beginning...people were together in their love of music. I know certain movies outlined this music era as a progressive sign of change and togetherness among people, teens, in their excitement with this music. This cd is such a nice mix with Buddy Holly's unique sound, The Teddy Bears live sound, Fats Domino's huge hit, (and used to the max on Happy Days) The Everly Brothers unforgettable harmonies everyone still loves, and all the others.... "Rama Lama Ding Dong" was the key song in "Grease" my teens know, but I want them to hear the original~As a child of the 50s and 60s, this music is as important to our roots as the newer oldies, such as the Byrds I just bought to enjoy and have my teens, who are playing guitar now, learn the roots of (my) Led Zepplin (cd they stole from me and love)~Each era builds on the last, and it's great when kids know that and enjoy the gems from each past era~I will be glad to add this to my collection as this cd is a gem~Luv to all~Keep On Rockin'

4 out of 5 stars Great oldies on this CD! .......2005-08-08

This is one of my favorite oldies but goodies CD out of the collection! It contains fantastic music from the 50s and 60s, but also has a small touch from the 70s with Before the Next Teardrop Falls by Freddy Fender. Here you have such classics like Sealed with a Kiss, At the Hop,Popsicles and Icicles, and two songs that hit the top 40 on the R&B charts!

4 out of 5 stars Oldies But Goodies Vol.2.......2000-06-16

I Think Oldies But Goodies Vol,2 is a classic oldies album with all the atmosphere and wonder that the 50's and 60's embodied . I would recommend this to any that loves the feel and passion that this bygone era was and ever will be.

1 out of 5 stars Oldies but Goodies 4.......2004-06-15

Poor quality. Does not seem to have any background music. I'm not sure why.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best CD's in this series........2000-05-09

This CD contains a nice variety of oldies. Everybody knows CCR, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and the other big names. The true find on this disc is "Silhouettes" by the Rays. It runs circles around the version by Herman's Hermits. Mickey and Sylvia's "Love Is Strange" is also good. Along with the Turtles and the addictive "Teen Beat" by Sandy Nelson makes this a top notch collection.

4 out of 5 stars Only way to get "Silhouettes" by the Rays anywhere!.......2000-03-04

The Rays original version of "Silhouettes" (A bona-fide must-own doo-wop classic) can't be found anywhere else. (I tried!) Even the boys at Rhino can't seem to license the master. Too bad, because the sound on this CD is definitely original, meaning most of these tracks just beg to be remastered. As for the rest of the tracks, seven of them are songs you probably already own a better-sounding copy of. Harder-to-find stuff includes "Harper Valley PTA", "Teenage Prayer", "The Big Hurt", and "Teen Beat". I give it a green light for collectors, but if "Silhouettes" is ever released from legal captivity in a better form, this disc is obselete.

4 out of 5 stars Looks ok to me.......2006-05-21

A reviewer reported repeated tracks on this CD. I think reviews are being attached to the wrong albums here.
I have the original LP and there are 12 tracks instead of the 16 listed for the CD so you're actually getting more for your $.
And I can't find any repeated tracks of those listed. Maybe there was an error in manufacturing the CD itself.
Anyway, if you like the "original" Rock & Roll... the "real" Rock & Roll get the other CD Vol's 6 AND 7, or the CD Vol's 7 THRU 9.

2 out of 5 stars What's with the repeated songs?.......1999-07-10

Is there a reason why four of the songs are repeated? I think it's a waste of money to pay for seventeen songs when you're really only getting thirteen. Other than that, I like several of the songs; if there was more variety, instead of repitition, it would be a better CD.

4 out of 5 stars PRETTY GOOD, EXCEPT. . ........1999-09-04

THIS CD IS VERY GOOD, EXCEPT FOR THE VERSION OF UNCHAINED MELODY ON IT. INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL VERSION, THEY INCLUDED THE RE RELEASED NEW STEREO VERSION. I MYSELF PREFER THE ORIGINAL. STILL, THE OTHER SONGS ARE GOOD. -PETER A.

4 out of 5 stars One of the best collections of R&B.......1998-12-07

If you are a nostalgic at heart, you will like a CD like this one. Jewels like Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight & the Pips are all here (with a few others). When I bought this CD, I was looking for a song by the Flamingos called "I only have eyes for you" (included here), a romantic tune that gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. But this collection is plagued with gems. I discovered another one in Ray Charles' "What I'd say". He yells with his unique cranky but incredibly seductive voice in this rocky tune, and one understands why he's always been held in such consideration for his performances. He's really magnificient.

The Righteous Brothers are the only white group in the collection with their classical "Unchained Melody". This is, however, the remastered version (one not much preffered by some fans). Marvin Gaye, that genious of black music, gives us one of his best in the suggestive "Let's get it on". I must say that the words of this song are quite 'descriptive'. I can't imagine him singing this during the seventies. The fact that he did, makes him even more remarkable.

Next time you're up for romance - or remembering, as Gladys Knight says on 'The way we were' - put this into your CD player, get some champagne and strwaberries and... indulge.

5 out of 5 stars Party in a Box with the greatest sounding oldies.......2006-02-23

After reading many of the reviews, I just wanted to mention that the sound quality is excellent. Digitally remastered and sounds better than anyone could have remembered. Secondly if this is not your kind of music i.e. you dont like oldies or fun 50's music this is NOT for you. For the rest of you out there, this is better than most collections out there for the mere reason that it covers so much and sounds so good

You will be the hit of any party with this collection seeing as you have over 200 songs and they are so much fun.....This collection was made and produced by Art Laboe, and if you dont know who that is, just google him and find out..

5 out of 5 stars IT STARTED IN HEAVEN AND ENDED WITH ROCK N ROLL.......2005-08-27

THIS UNIQUE OLDIES BOX SET BRINGS BACK MANY MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH. I GREW UP LISTENING TO THE SAME SONGS AND ARTISTS FOUND IN THIS COLLECTION. NIGHTIME WOULD FIND ME LYING IN BED WITH MY TRANSISTOR RADIO PRESSED AGAINST MY EAR. I GREW UP LISTENING TO THE EXACT SAME MUSIC FOUND IN THIS OUTSTANDING COLLECTION. I BUY TONS OF MUSIC BUT THIS BOX SET WILL ALWAYS REMAIN MY MOST WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT.

    FM DJ FROM THE MIDWEST

2 out of 5 stars From a Rock and Roll Fuddy Duddy.......2002-03-09

I bought one of these for a Christmas present for my brother and one for me. We're both connoiseurs of this music.

When all was said and done, there is most certainly some good stuff here, and it's fairly representative of that era. But quite frankly, there are way too many 2nd and 3rd rate cuts included to make this set worth owning.

I played mine so few times that I don't even know where it is any more. I'm especially sorry I gave one to my brother for Christmas. He deserved better.

I found only Vol. 3 of the boxed sets (78 songs, though the box says 80) in a retail store. Some of the artists are not the ones I remember, but perhaps they were the first to record a particular song.
