If you're a Battlestar Galatica Fan, this audio is an excellent companion to your collection. Passacaglia, Forgiven, and The Shape of Things to Come are emotional and addictive orchestral soundtracks. Not every song from the first season is included in this CD. The opening credit songs for the UK and the US versions and the battle songs (The Thousandth Landing, Battle on the Asteroid) are included. Battlestar Muzaktica is quite odd and doesn't fit with the collection of songs.

Has a great selection of songs from the 1st season. I like show/movie CDs that you can picture the scenes and emotion of the actors when you hear the song. The Celtic underlays are great, and the Taiko drumming style is very well used for building intensity in the music. If you really like the series, you should probably really enjoy the music as well!

If you like the music in a scene that just blends in and makes the scene even more emotional or suspenseful, that is what the scores from season one do on this cd. I initially bought it to for the prologue (cylon music) and the two main titles (U.S. and U.K.) but after listening to the entire cd, I have become completely addicted to it. The titles of the scores usually give you a hint of the scene and the liner notes also tell you the episode that they are from but the soundtrack has definitely made rewatching season one an even more intriguing experience. The scores with words, are written by Bear and are in various languages, but the words, especially the opera piece, are actually so dead one with the scene and in this specific scene hilarious. I love this soundtrack. If you are someone who is addicted to really grasping everything that happens in this show and watch and analyze it beyond face value, this is an added bonus to have in your collection. I highly recommend it!!!

Man I love the Classic and the Present BSG's So Inaturally find the SoundTrack/Score A joy and very relaxing. They tend to sound very similar but they are very diffrent.

There have been lots of raving reviews of this album, as well as the equally sensational season 2 soundtrack. I just wanted to add my opinion on one track, "Destiny". An earlier review describes an Arabic string instrument being used, but it is actually a biwa, a traditional Japanese instrument that has such a distinct sound that it's hard to imagine it being used for anything other than traditional gagaku music. I don't know if anyone but McCreary has ever tried to use this instrument for something else, but it hardly matters. The fact that McCreary managed to use it so effectively in a piece that is so different from gagaku music is a perfect testament to his unique genius. I'm really looking forward to following McCreary's career.

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

It doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally kitsch burrows itself into the popular consciousness and stays put because it's timelessly, compellingly good. Such is the case with The Very Best of the Partridge Family, which at long last allows pop aficionados who have closeted their dirty-little-secret obsession with the fictitious TV group to come clean. Never mind the ruffles and dove-wing lapels—heartthrob hang-ups aside, David Cassidy can sing (skip "I Think I Love You" and check his soul chops on the raging "Roller Coaster" or his Elvis-like vocal nuances on "Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque" instead.) And it doesn't hurt that the material he crooned was penned by some of the era's top songwriters. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill, for example, lent their graceful imagery to "Looking Through the Eyes of Love," and Gerry Goffin was behind "I'll Meet You Halfway." Add to that the band's layered-harmony-nailing background singers and a stash of sensational session players, and it can't be helped: You get happy. -Tammy La Gorce

Journey down memory lane. This is one of the best collections from the Partridge Family I have found. My brother and I are oldies nostalgic nuts and have been looking for a collection that included "Let The Good Times In.

There have been more recent collections done but have not included this title song from the pilot episode.

Enjoy a time of simplier days.

My first 8-track tape was "the Partidge Family Album". I loved the show as a kid. Then I got their next album...and the next...and the next.But my favorite song was never on it...until now. "Together(havin' a ball)" is finally on CD! Groovy!!!

This is a disc that has some cuts from the show(previously unreleased) and if your a fan of The Patridge Family then this disc is for you. Not only is the sound clear and crisp, its chock full of memories too. If your use to these songs on your old vinyl as they were way back in the 70`s then these remasters will knock your socks off.

Sometimes you just get a tune in your head and ya gotta hear it. That's what prompted me to buy this CD. These feel good songs do just that, they make you feel good. It's light reading for the soul and I think we all need that every now and again.

I must say...I was very glad when they released Part Two of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Don't get me wrong...the first part was great and all, but it was nothing spectacular. I was specifically looking for certain songs from the movie, and I was completely disappointed when they were on there. The release of a second soundtrack was, in my opinion, an absolute necessecity.

The highlights of the album are:

-Your Song (Instrumental)
-Sparkling Diamonds (original film version)
-Come What May (original film version)
-The Show Must Go On (original film version)

In my opinion, "The Show Must Go On" is the best song on this album...it was just so perfect for the ending of the movie, and I fell in love with the song. I was so disappointed that it wasn't on the first soundtrack. This song is part of what makes the second soundtrack so amazing...the song is fierce!!

If you love the movie and are a fan of the first soundtrack, then definitely, get this one. Many of the songs are versions taken straight from the movie - I recommend this with 4.5 stars...you will NOT be disappointed!

I love everything about this movie. The music is amazing and the instrumental songs on this CD are perfect. The first CD seemed to be more for a bunch of teenyboppers that wanted to hear the worst song on the whole CD (Lady Marmalade). If only they could combine the good songs from the first CD into this one.

I gave this 5 stars even though it's about a 4.5 because they split the soundtrack over two seperate cds.

So i thought that the first instalment in these soundtracks was great (and it was) but the purchase of this sequel is a must if you want the full effect. With the original film versions of these songs, sung by the stars of the movie, you get the real feel that was the magnifisence of Moulin Rouge! Ewan McGregor is still by far the star, with his talent spilling over the dramatic lovesong 'Come What May' and 'Your Song', but Nicole's brilliant performance as Satine definatly takes front and center in 'One Day I'll Fly Away' and the film version of 'Sparkling Diamonds'...I have noticed that many complain about how the first soundtrack did not include the film version of this song...well you need this CD then...you will not be dissapointed. Other highlights include 'Like a Virgin' which is downright histarical, and the dark cover of 'the show must go on' which highlights the tragidy behind this tightly woven tale. THis is one must have soundtrack for your ever growing collection. A perfect companion to soundtrack number 1!

This contains many great tracks missing from the original soundtrack, including Like A Virgin, Spectacular Spectacular and The Show Must Go On. I thought the inclusion of two instrumental versions of Your Song might be a bit redundant, but upon listening to them I really enjoyed them and they are quite different from one another. OK, it's not the best soundtrack that could have been put out. But it's pretty darn close. One thing that many DEDICATED fans of the movie (including myself) said is that the original movie soundtrack lacked the actual original movie score. There are 10+ songs in "Moulin Rouge" and many didn't make the final cut.

Baz did the smart thing, taking the audiences favorite music, a few gems from the first soundtrack such as "Come What May" and "Sparkling Diamonds" as well as a few new songs, like "Like a Virgin", "The Show Must Go On" and "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)" and releasing the Original Film versions, allowing for the amazing vocal performances of the actors, including the fabulous Jim Broadbent, to be shine through. Also, released is background music "Meet Me in the Red Room", played during Christian's arrival in the elephant, marking the only non-actor/orchestral piece within the context of the CD.

One thing that this soundtrack included that I didn't expect was several orchestral pieces that were mostly used as background music throughout the film. "Your Song - Instrumental" (#1) has personally become a favorite and is constantly being repeated in the CD player. Also included is the ending credits music "Bolero" and the final piece ... known as "Ascension/Nature Boy". Also included is a remix of "One Day I'll Fly Away", and like all MR remixes, is a little tough to listen to at first but after repeat listening, it becomes music to your ears.

To all you MR diehards out there: this is a must. Not like I could stop you anyways. To others who haven't been introduced to the spectacular (spectacular) world of Moulin Rouge, this is a great introductory piece, especially side-by-side with the first soundtrack.

Everything the other customers are saying is true: more music from the film, thankyouverymuch, not irritating pop conceits like the first. However, I would not have reviewed this album unless I found it absolutely necesary to point out that, in the climactic moments of track 5 "Come What May," Ewan MacGregor's voice is for some reason missing and replaced by a bizarre, operatic man's voice. It truly had me crying with laughter the first few times I heard it, and I wanted to share this wondrous discovery with the world.

The come-from-nowhere success of Shania Twain's previous album, The Woman in Me, proved that the world was ready for a combination of traditional instruments, girl-power themes, and dance-pop dynamics. Whether Twain is a modern-day Dolly Parton or a country music Spice Girl is a matter of perspective. But with her third album, she accentuates the sing-along choruses and simple dance rhythms while downplaying the country elements. As a pop move, it works wonderfully for her, earning Twain a valued spot on MTV, VH-1, and pop radio. The emphasis is on fun rather than depth, of course. Shania's third album, Come On Over, is a country/pop giant. It is loaded with great songs that Shania sings with energy and feeling. There's a reason this sold a bazillion copies - it's awesome. If you don't have it for some dumb reason, or just haven't gotten around to it, correct that mistake soon and get this.

Ever notice how all country music girls are attractive? That's because the industry that writes all their songs for them need a pretty face so they can sell their records in higher quantities. If you think these artists write all their own songs then you must be naive enough to believe that Jessica Simpson is popular because of her music talent and not her looks. Why do you think country music lyrics are all the same? 'All my exes were at the family reunion', 'Her teeth were stained but her heart was pure', I mean come on, they're all written by the same industry. Real musicians aren't usually attractive, because they're too busy writing their own music to care.

This is both a good & different album than any other Country based music I've heard. Probably because it really isn't Country? After several listenings, I came to the conclusion that this was 70% Pop, 20% Country, & 10% Disco. I'll leave that debate to those more familiar with those genre's. This was a very lively, even optimistic group of songs. Shania's voice was better with the faster songs. These are the ones I thought were done the best. "When," the only cynical tune on a cheerful album. It is a "yea right," tune that felt like it did not belong. Perhaps, thats why it stuck out? "From This Moment," certainly a smooth love ballad if there ever was one. Shania sang this from the heart, & it came through exquisitely. "Man I Feel Like A Woman," a feel good girl song with drums, electric guitar, & some mild fiddles. "Love Gets Me Everytime," more of a traditional love song with single girl meeting a guy & falling in love, with a fast tempo. "Come On Over," strong Accordion with one friend comforting another. "Your Still The One," probably her biggest hit? A smoothly done slow tempo tune about a couple who proved the naysayers wrong by staying together.

Shania Twain is an excellent performer and this album represents in my opinion some of her best work. I think her personality comes across strongly on this album and the songs are great.

I must admit I don't like what Shania Twain's later music evolved into nearly as much as this older stuff. I think in this album she was more driven by her own inner creativity and less by mass marketing concerns.

The ballads here are heartfelt and the faster songs convey an enthusiasm for life and youthful exuberance. While Shania is certainly sexy with a lot of charisma, she is also an incredible performer and worthy of her reputation. I can still remember the first time I heard her on THE WOMAN IN ME. I still love this album as well.

If you are going to own one or two Shania Twain albums and not get any others, I recommend that this is one of the two to buy. If you don't like the earlier country sound, try her newer stuff. However, I think this older material is more representative of where her heart truly lies and for me it comes across lound and clear through the speakers.

Skeptics might say that Carpenter's smash version of Lucinda Williams's "Passionate Kisses" pales beside the tougher original, or that Mary Chapin is but a folkie in poor-fitting country clothes. They're not exactly wrong, but her million-selling third album finds its charm in a spare Americana sound and smart, imaginative material. Carpenter bridges country and folk audiences, much as Emmylou Harris has done, and as few others have managed. And she's a better singer than generally recognized. Originals such as "I Am a Town" and the title cut are genuinely evocative, and "Walking Through Fire" and "I Take My Chances" have an emotional edge that is as raw as it has been rare on country radio in the '90s. --Roy Francis Kasten

Like probably many people, I've been a fan of Chapin since this album was released in 1992... truly it was her breakthrough album. And with good reason, too: not only was it an incredible country-crossover when country music was the "latest rage", but it's also an unbelievably good album.

After so many years of being a fan - I own all of her albums - I finally had the chance to see her in concert at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, CT. The show consisted of her and only three other musicians (including longtime cohorts John Jennings and John Carroll). No drummer accompanied them. She and the band were seated throughout the show as evidence of "how old and creaky" they've become (her words, not mine). They simply played, and the music was soulful, deep and magical.

It inspired me to finally praise "Come On Come On", which is still to this day my favorite album of hers. Yes, she's done other amazing work both before (the wistful folk and bubbly country of "State of the Heart", 1989) and after (the insightful and post-9/11-weary "Between Here and Gone, 2004)... but I still like this album best. Simply put, there isn't a bad song on it. I can't imagine anyone not being riled up by the entirely-justified feminist rant of "He Thinks He'll Keep Her", or not be moved by the sad, sullen beauty of "I Am a Town".

Simply put: If I was allowed on 10 CDs to accompany me to a desert island, this would be one of them. If you don't own it, you should... it's a classic.

I never tire of this album.

People have called MCC a folk artist. I guess that is true in the purest sense of the word. MCC writes songs and the people sing them.

Lonely technicians whistle along with "I Feel Lucky" at production facilities in the middle of the night.

A six year old girl is spontaneously singing "Passionate Kisses" right now, a capella, while playing with her dolls. She does not even realize she is singing, but the notes are sung perfectly in full voice.

"Passionate Kisses" still plays on the radio anywhere that Country Music matters. Country Music programmers in Southern cities and towns retain a few archetypal standards that are not subject to the whims of time, and it is one.

Somewhere, a man or woman is finding solace in "The Hard Way."

Somewhere, someone is making a lifelong vow. And this album is playing in the background while that vow is made... probably "Not Too Much To Ask" or "I Take My Chances." The vow will be kept.

"He Thinks He'll Keep Her" is based on the young MCC's indignance about a paternalistic Geritol ad back in the 70s. That's pretty damn special. She wrote it herself and it absolutely rocks. I'm not always enthusiastic about feminist angst but that's cool.

Buy two copies and tell your neighbors. Mary Chapin Carpenter is a giant.

Yes, I bought the CD a long time ago (10 years).

But, I was shuffling thru. my songs in the ipod, I relaized what an amazing CD this was. I will say that I was just starting to listen to country at that time. And that "Come on Come on" is one of the earliest intros. to country. Now, I can say that I have heard plenty of of new country, and not many artist matched the quality of selected songs in terms of music, vocals, writing. This CD has proven to be a good benchmark. IMO if you can pick a CD that you have listened to a while ago, and are still able to listen to, then that is great CD.

This is one of my favorite Mary Chapin Carpenter CDs. It deserves to be 5 Stars Plus. He Thinks He'll Keep Her is about a woman and a man being married through the years and one day their love for each other is gone. I Feel Lucky is a song about Her winning the lottery and she tells how she feels lucky about it. My favorite line in the song is hey Dwight hey Lyle boys you don't have to fight doggone I feel lucky tonight. The Bug is about the way life is. You never know if you are the bug or the windshield. My favorite song on this CD is Passionate Kisses. She wants everything a woman should have and passionate kisses also. Not Too Much Too Ask is a wonderful duet with Joe Diffie. I Take My Chances and The Hard Way are also good songs on this CD. She had 7 singles on this CD. The whole CD is very good and if you are a MCC fan then this should be in your collection.

Monsoon Wedding is Mychael Danna's second collaboration with film director Mira Nair, (Kama Sutra was the first), and he has again compiled a winning soundtrack. Danna explores a wide range of emotions, from solemn to celebratory, through different generations of Indian culture. The contemplative "Good Indian Girls" and "Hold Me, I'm Falling" feature Danna's trademark piano ambience over traditional Indian instrumentation, and the vivacious "Baraat" sounds like a Punjabi variation on Dixieland, while "Delhi.com" ventures into dreamy ethno-techno territory. Sukhwinder Singh's "Today My Heart Desires" serves up lively bhangra rock, and Laxmikant Pyarelal's "Today the Weather Plays Tricks on Me" (performed by Mohammed Rafi) swoons with strings and male vocals. I just saw the movie MONSOON WEDDING and I absolutely loved it! Of course, I just HAD to have the soundtrack, so I bought the Cd recently and loved it too! WOW!

The Cd will leave you in a happy mood... Wonderful up-beat songs, many are so danceable and hipnotic. I've been playing this Cd all week ...I just wish it were longer because I would love to have more Cds like this in my Cd collection.

I just love this CD. I'm preferential to the work of Mychael Danna and this is another awesome work of his. There is everything from old Indian love ballads to the popular Bollywood music of today, with some very beautiful instrumentals in between.

I'd recommend seeing the movie too. As well, I'd check out Danna's music for another Mira Nair movie, "Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love."

Above I listed some words that first came to mind when I thought about this cd.
It is very Culture rich and soaked in Indian flavor. It's colorful and makes you happy with a laugh or two; as it seeks to portray the traditional music typical of a Punjabi wedding in Delhi, India.
You want to dance with most songs and sit quietly to reflect with others. I listed appreciate because we often don't sit back to appreciate the richness that other cultures provide. My 2 year old appreciates this music in her broken wanna be Hindi mimic.
She dances as does my 6 year old to this music. It's really a great CD but I would recommend seeing the movie first.

Now, here's what you call a break from tradition. After bridging the gap between punk and blues on his collaboration with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, A Ass Pocket of Whiskey, Mississippi bluesman R.L. Burnside ventures into the world of beats and grooves with Come On In, a series of remix projects with producer Tom Rothrock (Beck, Foo Fighters). The cynics among you may smell opportunism, but Rothrock is sensitive and respectful enough to Burnside's originals to do them proper justice. Even the 4/4 high hat and filtered sound effects of "Rollin' Tumblin'" sound appropriate to the music at hand. Though these treatments--largely instrumental--erase the most of the presence of Burnside's searing vocals, Burnside and Rothrock's adventurousness will win over most to their progressive-thinkin' boogie chillun'. --Justin Hampton

Thank you Sirius Radeo and Amazon for bringing us RL Burside. Too bad the local "music (??)" Channels and stores still haven't got a clue in what great music really is.

This album is kind of like wasabi: it takes some getting used to but if you do, you have a friend for life. You're in for a big surprise if you're expecting traditional blues from this old bluesman. This is techno remix blues, which obviously won't please some, but he pulls it off. Best-known and probably the best tune is "It's Bad You Know", played on WXRT in Chicago, who turned me on to the album. Most of the cuts are musical loops, not all of which work, but overall pretty solid and recommended for anyone wanting something different. Die-hard blues purists need not apply.

Dear Mr. Yates: Are you one of those turtle-neck wearing folks with plenty of money and a nose in the air? Are you one of those that believe that the Blues must adhere to some unforgiving rules that you made up? Get off yo' high horse and put down that pipe! The Blues have always been a "blasphemy", a walk downtown, a soulful melody, a harsh reality.... etc... The Blues NEVER did adhere to any rules of musical education. The Blues is the Blues because of a feeling, an attitude. This album has all of that attitude, irreverent as it is. Take off that turtle-neck sweater and listen to these grooves. Blues grooves. The only other artist to take the Blues to this level this decade has been G. Love. No, it's not your daddy's Blues.... but it is Blues.... fun Blues.... New Orleans Blues... Blues the way it was supposed to be: Fun, Exciting, Soulful and NOT standard! Blues with a capital "B".

I'm laughing my fricken a** off. I read the review by Mr. "Thomas W. Yates" who states below "shame on fat possum....they used to be about documenting a pure, dying art form. now fat possum is all about "updating" the blues to "increase the audience"...fat possum only cares about the $$."

Give me a break! Don't you think Mr. Burnside deserves to make some money for his talent? Don't you think Fat Possom deserves to make some good money too? I sure as heck do. Sounds like your one of those people who wants to "Keep the Man Down". Keep him poor and humble is that it? Give me a break....

Don't you think this may make some younger people find an interest in "The Blues"?

Personally I think its pretty selfish when I see other reviews like that. I think its great that the blues is branching out and reaching out to a larger audience and in the process becoming more mainstream. I think its great that these artists who have been making pennies all their lives are finally making some real money for all their work and talent.

Heck 20 years ago I was wondering if the blues was going to die out but people like Mr. Burnside, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and others have created a renewed interest in "The Blues".

To appreciate this incredible album one must understand that Mr. Burnside was raised in the country and matured in the city; which rationalizes the true alchemy of this electrifying rural/uban mix. The amazing power and energy of this album will stand as R.L.'s burning memorial. So-called blues purists may take issue, but blues music is not "pure" - it is the soul expression of the performer's life experiences... good, bad, pleasurable or painful and everything in between - like this album.

There is roudiness in here. Black Francis coos and snarls in a way in which Kurt Cobain would just do. Cobain played along with Francis' way, as shown in his band Nirvana. Such wonderful and raunchy tracks include the Spanish introduction in "Vamos", "Isla de Encanta"(you can hear Mrs. John Murphy singing softly in this one as background vocalist), and "I've Been Tired", the song featured subtly in M. Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce the essence of the pre-mainstream `Pixies:' with themes that are rather indecipherable, but of which utilize a personality that will make the hairs on the back of your neck run, duck, and cover; hiding from the creepy-crawly bass, the spidery, frothy, and utterly venomous guitars, and squashy drums, that all make a cloud of noisy, alternative punk-pop aggression. All this is propelled with yelping, screaming, wailing, and chanting. To boot these lyrics are sometimes even shouted in Spanish, like a language-confused banshee. It should go without saying that you may feel awkward and neurotic, all while dancing around the room, charging full speed into the wall having finally uncovered a new kind of kick. This adrenaline rush always comes back when listening to this album, coming in the shape of a Pixie, it has your first and last name, and like with Santa Claus, it's your decision if it'll make you naughty or nice. Simply, it is impossible to not get into the `Pixies.' That is, as long as you are not Fascist, a wife beater, part of the Ku Klux Klan, or a Ronald Regan enthusiast. In other words, `Pixie' haters are just evil people-- as this is a band that is special to many people's hearts, this writer obviously included. So, now you ask me to stop drooling and actually write the bloody review. Ok, no problem. Just where do I begin?

Out from the shadowy corner of the once small underground cult movement of Indie rock came the Pixies, a quartet from Boston, who with financial help from the father of their lead singer, Black Francis (who would later change his name to Frank Black when he went solo,) recorded seventeen songs that became known as `The Purple Tape.' Eight of these are found on "Come On Pilgrim," their 1987 debut EP--many of the other tracks are available on different albums, and are also collected on a self-titled compilation.

Even when looked at by itself, "Come on Pilgrim" is a feat, throttling amongst bursting stop-go-and-explode stampedes of alternative power-pop with a healthy ode to the previous decades' punk rockers. This album is scary in its crooked delivery, and that alarming disarray factor is one of their more impeccable qualities, along with their clever, and wicked antics; as the song `I`ve Been Tired' says, it'll make you "want to be a singer like Lou Reed," but certainly would not make you want to "lose your pe*is to a wh*re with disease," unless of course it is the only way you could turn into a Pixie fan.

The first song, Caribou, and the squally voice of Francis, amiss the splintery, albeit modest string instrumentals of lead guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal, and the steady, clambering beat of drummer David Lovering, as well as the cries to "repent," make the listener know that this is not a usual day in the musical factory. The song tries for a feeling of didactic self-evaluation, yet the lyrics are impenetrable, even bad in the poetic sense. However, its not about that, its about turning the normal musical conventions around, and creating a song that is catchy, even if it is quite fragmented. While other songs have very memorable and playful lyrics, for example, `Nimrod's Song,' contains the winning lyric: "My sister held me close and whispered to my bleeding head, "You are the son of a mother*uc*er."

`Come on Pilgrim' lassoes you in with noisy dynamics, drawing you in with its instrument hooks. Yet, even if the sound is unique, admittedly it is also more loud feedback than sophistication. On this Indie album, they obviously were not yet heavily produced, as each song sounds a bit alike, although the `Pixies' try to add individuality to each track, the music still never slows it down, or travels past a certain aggressiveness, choosing to stick to a similar tempo as the next one. "Come on Pilgrim" is an imperfect, but accessible debut from one of rocks most consistent acts of the late 1980's/ early 1990's period.

The Pixies, a Rock alternative band who began in the mid '80s inspired many of the 1990s Alt. and Grunge acts..although The Pixies are Way better and possibly more influential than all those Seattle Bands. Yep...this is what Begin it all for The Pixies! "Come On Pilgrim"(1987) is a fury-filled Rock Ep containing 8 Raw tracks.
"Caribou" has been one of my favorite Pixie tracks over the last few years -featuring a crooning vocal side to Black Francis' otherwise manic wildman like howling screams. ...Well he does Scream in the chorus: REPENT! -as much of the lyrics of Pixies early work focuses on The Bible. Also I believe the Pixies were inspired by Pere Ubu (others).
Joey Santiago has to be one the Most under-rated lead guitarist out there - he shows us his Frenzied fast freakout guitar playing throughout, especially on "Vamos" -Black Francis singing: "if we get Bored, we'll move to California." and "Isla de Encanta"- purely smokin'
Then you have track four w/ another TOP Favorite of mine in "Ed is Dead" - also featuring the awesome sweet power of Kim Deal's backing vocals behind Frank Black's. I love guy/girl vocal duos. It just adds more substance or variety -and The Pixies are one of the Best.
"The Holiday Song" (track 5) was used as an opener for many early Pixie performances. "Nimrod's Son" - (indie hit) a yellin' good time..Jack White-(The White Stripes) was paying attention.
Next is some more Havoc-hell raising in "I've Been Tired" and then the closer "Levitate Me": "...Elevator lady..elevator lady - Lady levitate Me!"
Their next 2 (full length) albums were probably their Best with "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle"- but "Come On Pilgrim" is definately a rewarding listen from "Caribou" on Through-

This is less an EP and more an album with absolutely no filler. Every song just plain rocks. And if you don't like a song at first, then in about two minutes another one will be rampaging in your eardrums.

Even though it doesn't exactly show off their softer side (except perhaps on "Caribou"), Come on Pilgrim is probably the best way to introduce someone to the Pixies. Raging thrash guitars, drumming that borders on the manic, obtuse and obscene lyrics shrieked and howled in English and Spanish - this is what the Pixies are all about. And while they had not yet raised this to an artform (they did on Surfer Rosa and Doolittle), it's still clearly the foundation of their sound.

Definitely worth a listen for both Pixies newcomers and die hard fans alike.

Ennio Morricone wrote great soundtrack music, that's for certain. But no retrospective of his work is complete without the inclusion of more than one lone example from the three mid-60's "spaghetti westerns" he scored for Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood. Anyone familiar with the UNITED ARTISTS label LPs of "Fistful Of Dollars," "For A Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" might agree with this.

As for what's here-- most of ENNIO MORRICONE * FILM MUSIC Volume 1 is forgettable incidental stuff. Except for "The Battle Of Algiers (Theme)," the opening and closing tracks are the best. They bookend what turns out to be a disappointing collection, lacking in both liner notes and the brilliance Morricone demonstrated over a 30 year span.

Moscow Farewell is definitely my pick of the lot. Sacco And Vanzetti was a pleasant surprise once I listened to it a couple of times. It is lively and could be played on a wedding dance floor for the whole family. This is great album to listen to while in bed!

Arguably one of the greatest (if not the greatest) Film composer of the 20th Century. Not only has he scored some of the most influential and instantly recognisable pieces of film music during his roughly 50 years of composing atmospheric film scores. Whether he's providing the spooky dramatics for a spaghetti Western" or constructing the ingenious use of classical arrangements of brooding cinematic pieces, he has (in most cases) consistently delivered contemporary music that has provided the atmospheric foil for the picture in question. And with a collection of musical influences that were as far ranging as: classical, jazz, pop, rock, electronic, avant-garde, and Italian music, he is able to deliver a variety of film scores that are as diverse as they are beautifully composed.

This compilation is collection of some of the seminal, gritty, theatrical, and dramatic film music, that would go on to define his career, via reflective orchestration and memorable motifs, ingenious use of diverse arrangements and instrumentation. There is a majority of his highlights on this disc, with the magnificently brooding "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" opening the disk. what follows is a truly sublime collection of music that is in parts truly beautiful and utterly atmospheric, so tracks such as "Once Upon A Time In The West", benefit from the haunting melodies and stirring volins, that are possibly more in tone with orchestrated music than contemporary music. Or the quiet piano introspection and melancholic arrangements that make up "Moscow Farewell", are simply deserving of being placed amongst the finest soundtrack compositions ever. "Dedicace", contains some of the most litting melodies in recent memory, impossibly sad and affecting, it is a haunting bittersweet composition that is both organic & reflective, over which the volins provide the musical backdrop. And that's without the mention of "For Love One Can Die", the autumnal orchestrated track, that pulls from Italian sweeping gangster original film scores, and makes a hushed and dissonant recording, that feels like a sublime throwback to the mafia-related shenanigans of 60's chicago via the use of restrained piano, that really is quite lovely and adds substantial weight to the composition.

If you are looking for a Ennio Morricone compilation....short of buying a boxset, you'd be hard pressed in beating this for value for money. It's a fantastic summary of his work and covers a fair amount of material. And is the perfect introduction to his work, (especially if you just want to buy one compilation of his work). This is highly recommended to fans both old and new, and is boosted by the compilers making a great job of the selection. So if you don't want to have to splash out on an expensive disk, to hear his influential work...this really is the first place you should start.

Volume I of III, of this 'best of' Morricone trilogy, is the best of the three. This volume consists of music that can be listened to alone and socially, with some of the most catchy and minimalist rhythms you'll ever hear. You'll listen to this album and wonder what movie you've heard that song from before(Morricone's canon being primarily for film scores). If you're hear because you're trying to get the song from a movie, and you've never really heard of Morricone before, then you've luckily stumbled upon some of the best music I've ever heard. Or, if you're a Morricone fan and you'er looking for a good compilation, since Morricone has done too many film scores to even possibly own them all, then this is good to have. I wouldn't really reccommend Volume II and III unless you're looking or a very comprehensive collection of Morricone, since Volume I seems to me to carry his most absolute best. Definetely buy this album, it's very good.
