Really good music........2005-10-25

I saw this on a TV commercial a few times. Said it was only sold on TV. A few years after I first saw that ad, I found it being sold in a Strawberries music store, still in its package, with "As seen as TV!" on it. So they're sold the recording industry, what's important to them is money, no scruples, ah well... I got a good CD out of it, so I'm not arguing.

Anyway, that little anecdote aside, this is a very nice album. I don't think that many people actually buy it from TV (considering it's had no reviews up until now, I'm guessing very few), but it is VERY good listening. You rarely get such a good concentration of oldies as you do here. I wouldn't call these the "ultimate 16", but they seem pretty darn close.

Most of the songs on this album are what you'd call 'hippie songs'. It's music from the counterculture. The subjects are love, freedom, peace power to the people, and compassion to your fellow man. Really good stuff. I love it. Most of the songs on this Album are fantastic, with classics like "Signs", "Green Tambourine" and "United we stand" (and what legitimate 60s album could go without "incense and peppermints"?)

The beats, rhythyms, melodies, and harmonies are great, and as a compilation CD, there's plenty of variety. I think this album does a good job of bringing most of the counterculture folk/guitar/pop hits from that era together (although don't get me wrong, this isn't any run of the mill guitar-strum folk, this is, once again, good stuff. I wasn't around during the 60s, still like it). This is such a nice album to listen to, it really is. I think why it's so fun to listen to is because it's so positive. You rarely get music like that today. Usually, today, music generally goes along the veins of "I love you a lot", or "Why don't you love me?", or "Life sucks" or "I'm really cool". Nothing that's just good and nice and positive and friendly today. That's what this album is all about - good vibes, good messages, happiness, fun, compassion, and truth.

It really is good stuff.

The only complaints I have if anything (this album was, once again, worth the $14 I spent. Really easy to listen to, I could go on forever...) my only possible complaint would be that the digitally "remastered" versions of 'Hair' and 'Aquarius' actually are WORSE than the broadway soundtrack originals. As in, they're just not as good, the audio effects add nothing, and only take away. I think they should have left those ones alone, really, but that's fine. They're still good, just not as good.

But remastering of two tracks aside, this album is very nice. It's glad to know that when they try to sell me "ultimate" stuff like this, they aren't just fleecing me for cash, but they really put some effort into making a good, quality album. The music here is such a nice break from negative-toned music. You don't find such good positive music often, this stuff is nice. I'm glad I got it, and I recommend it to anyone looking to bolster their collection with some folk or oldies pop.
