Decent Debut From A One Hit Wonder Group.......2006-12-17
Mista burst onto the scene in summer 96 with their huge single Blackberry Molasses. The song which was about growing pains is still a song that when heard can motivate just about anyone and it was also recently featured in the movie ATL. While none of the other songs on the CD are as strong as Blackberry Molasses the group did have strong voices. The group worked with Timbaland on a second unreleased album and only one of those recording has seen the light of the day which is All About You. All About You was featured on the Why Do Fools Fall In Love soundtrack and showed the group had matured but never got a chance to do a second CD. By the way some singer named Bobby Valentino started here.
Brings Back Memories!.......2006-08-30
I remember when Mista came to my lame high school and no one even knew who the heck they were. Everyone was gathered into the auditorium and the video to "Blackberry Molasses" was shown. After that there were a few games played and some prizes given away, then finally Mista came on stage and performed a few songs for us. It was an okay performance and there was a lot of pelvic thrusting. The light skin dude thought it would be safe for him to come off the stage and as soon as he did a flock of screaming of girls ran towards him. Man, he hopped back on that stage quick! After the show was over this guy came up to one of the girls who had ran to the stage and said, "Y'all looked like roaches on a crumb!" Oh gosh! That was too funny! Anyway, this girl in my geometry class had won a poster of the group and she kept saying, "Oooh, Bobby! He's so fine!" I just thought he was aight. Anyway, it's good that he's doing his own thing. But on to the CD review: I enjoyed it! It has a jazzy R&B sound that was popular around that time, a lot of instruments being played. This album was very mature from a teen boy group, but I'm not complaining. It's very thoughtful, emotional, and open to other occurrences in life.
By far one of Rico Wade's Genius Masterpieces.......2006-03-17
My wife actually bought this album back in '96 when this album dropped because of the single Blackberry Molasses. I later came to simply fall in love with the backdrops and tones Organized Noize set for some of the tracks on this album. Next to Outkast - ATLiens, some of the tracks on this album showcase some of his most amazing musical talent, not to mention the excellent vocals of the group. It's too bad they aren't around any longer, however you can catch up with one of the members Bobby Valentino who now rolls with Ludacris' DTP Records.
So thank you Organized Noize for this album and I hope to continue to hear more.
Wow..I'm Impressed.......2006-01-23

Love Mista!.......2005-08-11
Man, I loved Mista. I had their tape, and had their Word Up magazine pictures on my wall. Its too bad that they did not blow up like they did, because their album was good 9 years ago (I think its been that long). Anyways, thank Bobby V. for bringing new royalties to the group Mista. Oh, and listen to "Lady."

CLASSIC GANGSTA CRUNK!!!.......2006-07-14
Mayne!!! This album was killing everything & anything when it came out. This was pure gangsta crunk before the rest of the country knew anything about the word "crunk". Pat laced up real tight with this album, the production, done by juicy & paul was TOP NOTCH! If you didnt bob your head to any of thease songs then go see a doctor, FAST! ALL THE SONGS ARE STRAIGHT GANGSTA!!! He didnt have any features outside of the THREE SIX CAMP, so your getting a 100% HIPNOTIZE MIND'Z PRODUCT! if you never really were up on Three 6 MAFIA THIS ALBUM IS A GREAT INTRODUCTION TO THEM Even if it isnt a group album. This album will make you go back & peep their earlier work.
If I had to highlight one song off the album it would be "Aggravated robbery" it uses a sample off the movie "carlito's way" when sean penn the crooked lawyer is walking out of the prison. Its in incredible way how they sampled it up & just crunked it up!
Dope album.......2006-07-12
This was the first Project Pat album I heard and I loved it. He spits straight gangsta rap and he shows hes not to be played with. He got real big off that Chickenhead single. Pick this one up if you like Three 6 or dirty south rap.

Perfect!!!.......2003-11-12
I love Russian Orthodox music and this is it at its finest. Stephen Layton and the Holst Singers (at Temple Church, London) do an outstanding job on this quality production. The recording comes across chrystal clear. This has become my favorite sacred choral piece. Buy it and support the arts.
Orthodox Liturgical Music at Its Best.......2000-08-18
I am an Orthodox Christian and have sung in my church's choir for over 9 years now. Therefore, when I went away to college, I missed hearing and singing my familiar Russian chants. This CD, although not as true to church music as one can get (for authenticity I recommend the 5-CD boxed set "Russian Choral Music" on the Melodiya label), definitely set an air of peace which reminded me of standing in the choir loft with incense encircling me.
I was extremely pleased when this CD arrived in my mailbox. Whenever I listen to it, I feel as if I am singing and participating (although in absentia) in my church's vesper services. The Holst Singers set a mood of meditation and transport one to a dark cathedral where the only light present is the fingers of sunshine streaming through the stained glass windows.
Extremely powerful.......2000-08-05
Alexander Gretchaninov, like his contemporary Sergei Rachmaninov, wrote some interesting and beautiful choral music in his time, and on this recording, the Holst Singers under Stephen Layton present a survey of that music, including his "All-Night Vigil" setting. The result is a truly breathtaking combination of unbelievably good singing and remarkable music.
According to the notes, the Holst Singers are an amateur choral society, but their performance on this (their second recording for Hyperion) could teach even professional ensembles a thing or two! The balance is superb, the tone is just right for this musical style, and there is a sense of loving attention poured into each and every note. As for the music, it is something of an acquired taste: those familiar with Rachmaninov's choral music will recognise many of the same elements, including overt and 'Romantic-sounding' harmonies and a rich texture created with heavy divisions in all four parts of the choir. Gretchaninov's setting is around twenty minutes shorter than Rachmaninov's (though there's still quite a bit on the disc, especially with the addition of two motets and a responsorial canticle). By far the most striking thing about this music is the writing for the low basses. Rachmaninov called for a handful of low B flats in his "Vigil;" Gretchaninov has low As and even what sounds like a low A flat! in addition to long sections in which the second basses never rise above a low F. For this reason, the Holst Singers are supplemented on this recording by four of Britain's deepest basses (including Jeremy Birchall, whose exceptionally low notes were used to record John Tavener's "Theophany" some years ago). I am astonished that something so guttural can also be so beautiful and moving to hear - if this doesn't haunt you, it is hard to imagine what will...
James Bowman fans may already know that he is a patron of the Holst Singers, hence he has appeared with them in concert and on record. Unfortunately, in the case of this particular record, 'appearance' really is an operative term: he is only on one track and he takes the role of a cantor, thus being limited to about four notes! Even so, it is a welcome sound, and adds even more to what is a deeply musical experience, moving and joyful.
Listeners hungry for more after having heard Rachmaninov's "All-Night Vigil" should purchase this without hesitation.

The St. Petersburg Chamber Choir and their director, Nikolai Korniev, show off subbasement basses, soaring sopranos and a rich, well-blended sound in "Russian Easter," a group of eleven settings for Easter worship by Alexander Grechaninov, Dmitri Bortnyansky and other masters of Russian church music. The compositions were written variously from the 18th century through the present, but all stay true to the spirit and aesthetic of the Orthodox tradition. Those who find plainchant a little on the monotonous side but are still looking for a spiritual element in music will find much to admire and enjoy in these beautifully sung presentations. --Sarah Bryan Miller
Customer Reviews:
Understanding the Mystery of Easter.......2006-04-17
No matter the reason for focusing thoughts on higher matters at this time of year - the mysteries of Spring awakening, Passover, Easter, and the other festivals that celebrate the concept of renaissance - few recordings capture the essence of these mysteries as well as this recording of Russian Easter music.
Nikolai Korniev conducts the St Petersburg Chamber Choir in the ambience of the large cathedral in St Petersburg in a soaringly powerful recital of hymns and music written by various composers for the celebration of Easter. The choral sound is that special magic found in Russian choral singing, a sound that embraces the softest of pianissimos in contrast to the largest triple fortes grounded by that inimitable lushly rich Russian bass technique of singing.
No matter the listener's response to the Eastertide, this recording is simply some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring choral music collected on one CD. It stirs the soul and awakens the spirit. Highly recommended - for anytime of the year, too! Grady Harp, April 06
Easter Choral music: Behold the Bridegroom is magnificent.......2004-06-06
Listening to classical radio has once more paid unexpected dividends; yet again I discover a treasure that would have escaped my notice and I would never have otherwise heard.
This disc is a collection of Easter music performed by the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir under the direction of Nikolai Korniev. It is beautifully recorded in the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul in St. Petersburg, Russia; the wonderful acoustics of this magnificent structure adds to the spiritual effect that this music requires.
The entire CD is beautiful, but it is the very first piece on the disc (the one that I heard on radio) that caught my undivided attention, that being, " Alleluia, Behold the Bridegroom". This haunting melody played as quiet chant, repeated over and over, rises to a soft crescendo before it reaches its conclusion. It is hard to believe that this piece has gone virtually unnoticed; that it has not become a staple of sacred music through out the Christian world at Easter time. Even more astonishing is that the author of this incredible work has become lost with time; the creator, who in this case has flirted with a small measure of immortality, is simply recognized as "anonymous".
All in all, a CD that any lover of choral music (sacred or otherwise) would absolutely cherish and desire for their collection; but it is " Alleluia, Behold the Bridegroom" that will move your soul.
Highly recommended.
heaven and earth singing.......2003-11-23
From our great neighbour in the East comes this wonderful music that has served as a first aid kit for me when times have been rough and I have been driving along the Finnish countryside, just driving for many hours on roads deep into silent forests. You simply cannot maintain a hopeless and desperate feeling when listening to this music. It simply puts you back on track. And it reminds me of the fact that when really miserable you are not alone. Forget new age - this is old age music that takes your inner bad breath away and replaces it with gratitude and hope.
Music to weep with joy to..........2003-01-23
I came to this work via Loreena McKennitt's CD "The Book of Secrets" as the first track on "Russian Easter" is excerpted as the intro to her song "Dante's Prayer". So haunting is that hymn ("Alleluia, Behold the Bridegroom") that I find myself weeping every time I hear it.
We American evangelical Christians unfortunately hold the worship music of cultures other than ours at arms length. It is impossible, though, to hear this CD and not be staggered by the depth of worship it contains. Rarely does a work make me fall on my knees, but here it is in all its musical glory.
Featuring the hymns of primarily Russian composers, "Russian Easter" is a collection of eleven non-instrumental pieces performed by the remarkably adept St. Petersburg Chamber Choir. Centering around the theme of Christ's Passion, each hymn is superlative and perfectly suited for this collection.
Philips, the manufacturer/distributor, did a beautiful job with this disc, too. The sound is exquisite, particularly the bass voices, and the liner notes are very well done, including a brief exposition of each piece along with both the Cyrillic and English lyrics.
This is one CD I firmly believe every Christian should own. And if you're not in that fold yet, a few listens to "Russian Easter" will help you on your way.
Simply stunning!
Extraordinary.......2002-04-01
I rarely give five stars. I would give six if I could.
This is glorious, peaceful and exalting music. It takes the breath away. The voices, the songs, the rendition, the recording quality - its all there. Hear it, and be soothed.

Customer Reviews:
New underground rap album flourishes across country..........2001-11-08
This new underground hiphop rap album is flourishing across the country. John St. Cyr, owner of the new highly anticipated St. Cyr Records & Films, hits you with another great rap album. He produces tracks with Flipside, Black-N-Mild, LA-Slim, and many others on yet another hot compilation. It's no wonder this producer will hit it big sooner or later. He attracts young talent and brings them in to deliver a nice performance. Almost every song is a positive strength for this album. But on the other hand, the only flaw to this CD is F.C.'s song "Boss Hoggin." A very boring and tiresome song. But overall this CD should be picked up by some hip-hoppers out there.
St Cyr Records delivers hott underground compilation.......2001-10-26
This album is one of the tightest albums to hit the shelves in Gary, Indiana and now Amazon.com. Hyped Illin (...) gave it a 8 out of 10 rating. Mista St. Cyr's great production on this album brings you funky beats and his rappers deliver nice rhymes. Probably the best rapper, on the album LA-Slim appears on two tracks which are definitely tight. Mr. Billistic rhymes some tight ish with his boys from the Tri-State Clicc. This album should hit the shelves in BestBuy and MusicLand soon. A German web site, Rapz.de, gave great reviews for this album too!

A beautiful ensemble tone.......2002-09-07
Most people who are used to the boy-treble sound of Kings College, wince at the thought of women-sopranos as members of the choir for English church music. But this Clare College performance would win over the most die-hard traditionalist. The program is a collection of familar and more interesting works spanning several centuries of the genre. The performances are measured, controlled and have a true ensemble tone. Although it would be unfair to treat this disc as just background music, it can be a wonderful oasis of calm after a busy day.
heavenly.......2002-02-13
I didn't think there was a group out there that could outshine the Cambridge Singers, but this group has done it. (Their shared history with John Rutter could have something to do with it!) "Bring Us, O Lord God" and "Hymn to the Creator of Light" are among the all-time great choral moments. Their sound is a shade warmer than the Cambridge Singers, which is an asset when moving outside Renaissance choral literature. The choir can sing with the pristine purity needed for Palestrina and the warm lushness needed for Rachmaninoff and Rautavaara. Every track on this album is stunning. This is now the first CD I send to people looking to start or augment their choral music collection. I can't recommend it highly enough!
Unbelievably beautiful.......2000-10-29
With this disc, their first recording for John Rutter's Collegium label, the Choir of Clare College in Cambridge prove themselves worthy to stand alongside the best in this country - and then some...
At the outset, I have to admit that I'm not wholly impressed by the programme. The title "Illumina" treads on ground that countless choirs have covered over the last ten years, and the music includes several items that fit in with that title, despite having been 'done to death' on other choral compilations: I have already come across dozens of CDs with "O nata lux" by Thomas Tallis, "Hymn to the Creator of Light" by John Rutter and "Hail, gladdening light" by Charles Wood, for instance, and it is as if having yet another recording of each detracts from the value of the others in my collection. The programme also includes a number of excerpts from Russian masterworks: specifically, canticles from the Vigil settings of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Gretchaninov all appear (indeed, the last two composers are represented by their different settings of the same canticle!). In a similar vein is the inclusion of the Evening Hymn from Rautavaara's "Vigilia," sung in Finnish. Dense and rich polyphonic works of the Renaissance and late Romantic schools nestle side by side (cantus firmus motets by Thomas Tallis and Robert Whyte are paired off with soupy and familiar anthems by William Harris and Gustav Holst); these are contrasted by monodic plainchants and a hymn by Hildegard of Bingen. A Nunc Dimittis by Josquin also makes an appearance (it is the third setting of that particular text on the disc!) before the programme ends with Gyorgi Ligeti's striking and ethereal "Lux Aeterna."
So, a very predictable programme that might not seem worth purchasing, particularly as choral music lovers are bound to have all these tracks on previous releases. However, when it comes to actually listening to the disc, one finds it definitely worth adding to a choral collection. The Choir of Clare College have made recordings in the past, but not one of them is nearly as stunning as this. Timothy Brown draws the most amazing quality of sound from the singers: every note is precise, every word is clear, every texture is sonorous to the right degree, the balance is superb, the dynamic control is exquisite... The choir was obviously having a good year in terms of basses, who negotiate the infernal notes in the Rachmaninov and Rautavaara tracks with incredible power and admirable precision. Similarly, the sopranos and altos (Clare College Choir is mixed rather than all-male as at King's College) have a beautiful tone in the high registers of their voices. Completing the package are the scintillating acoustics of the recording venue: the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral. This lends a wonderful glow to all the music, even the Ligeti (I've never heard it sung as well as this).
In short, whilst the programme is right in the middle of the beaten track, this disc is a revelation: a perfect recommendation to anyone looking to explore the rich choral traditions of this country and others besides, a breath of fresh air into any choral collection, a stunning performance by a truly brilliant choir under a very capable director. Excellent!

Great cd.......2007-07-12
I bought this cd with no expectations and was not disapointed. Trey Lorenz has a very unique voice and there are some beautiful songs on here. Very creative release with only a couple of skippable tracks. It looks I'm in the minority here though. Everybody else seems to have been disapointed by it.
I'd suggest just listening to the samples before buying it because you could either be in the majority who thinks this is a boring cd or in the minority like me who loves it. =d don't always go by reviews.
In my opinion, this is an excellent Cd and I have now ordered Trey Lorenz's debut album.
This CD is SO boring........2007-02-28
Ugh. I can't describe what I felt when I was listening to this CD. I think it's very uninspired and the arrangements just don't do it for me. It's just flat out boring. I bought this CD because I remember him singing with Mariah Carey on "I'll Be There" and tearing it up. Doesn't he sing with Alicia Keys on "Diary" too? Either way, I'm very, VERY disappointed with this release.
No good, Trey.
Absolutely Astonishing and Amazing:TREY LORENZ.......2007-02-12
The years have definintely been very good to Trey Lorenz and his voice, he is like a master of music on this CD. I love this CD very much(maybe even more than the first one)He has a very distinctive voice and listening to it is like magic. It captures the true beauty and essence of his voice. There is no other CD That I would rather listen to to find the truth of music, His music is what real music should echo. Two thumbs up and a standing ovation for Mr. Lorenz!!
Mr. Mister.......2007-01-06
A tribute to old sould music. Trey Lorenz is a rewelcomed breathe of fresh air in the world of music. He is by far one of the very best male vocalists both past and present.
Another CD you buy for vocals and not the production.......2006-11-23
Trey Lorenz is a singer who first came onto the scene into 1991 when he sang co-lead vocals on Mariah Carey's I'll Be There. When he released his debut CD in 1992 he had some very good ballads in Someone To Hold andJust To Be Close To You. It seemed like Trey was destined to become a singer in R&B but sadly he didn't. Given the right material Trey could become a strong force in R&B,but the CD doesn't do it for him. The only song worth mentioning is Pisecs as the rest of the songs are boring.
