It's Success Made her a Major International Star in the Process and Established her as a Bonafide Disco Star. It was also One of Curtom's Biggest Selling Albums Ever, Hitting the Top 30 in America for 22 Weeks in 1978 and Includes Full-length (Seven Minutes Plus) Versions of Two of her Biggest Us Hit Singles. The Title Track is a Lavish Remake of the Classic Show Tune from "Sweet Charity". This Driving Slab of Orchestrated Disco features Stunning Call and Response with the Jones Girls, who Sang Backup. The Disco Anthem "Runaway Love" is Seen as Regarded by Many as her Best, featuring Latin-tinged Funk with Spoken Dialogue in a Style Popularized by Millie Jackson. This is one of the best disco sets ever produced. If My Friends... still rocks after 25 years. The version here is about 8 minutes and has an awesome ending to it. Runaway love ... what is there to say? This is the definitive pack your bags song! Also around 8 minutes, Linda ttakes this version to new heights.

This also contains her first Curtom 1977 album, Linda. This is a very decent first release for the label, although not quite at the peak or highs that the If My Friends... album would take her to. That whole album is awesome. It already appears that it's out of print ... get one now!

Although, Ms. Clifford's first Album "LINDA" was not a comercial success, this should not deter the purchaser! Songs like: "From Now", "Only Fooling Myself", and "Still in Love with you" are timeless. She captures unique moods, and actually invites the listner in to share in her joy, pain or suffering! Additionally, with this new re-issue one is afforded the luxury of receiving Ms. Cliffords best album...."IF My Friends Could See Me Now". "Runaway Love"....A Disco Classic is still as funky today as when originally recorded! People may dislike disco but, Ms. Cliffords voice and rendition of the material transcends all classifications! Her voice is a national treaure...one to be appreciated now and forever!

Classic Clifford!.......2003-10-08

Memories flood back on listening to this gem from disco's sunset years. Clifford jazzes up and old classic, "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and it's great to have the extended play version in my hands at last. The rest of the album also excels and you will find much listening pleasure on this disc.

Utilizing long-time conductor for the Supremes, Gil Askey, Linda Clifford shines gloriously on this dance version of the Shirley McLaine standard that was also the first song used to introduce Diana Ross' replacement (Jean Terrell) in the Supremes on the Ed Sullivan show. Clifford is great here, if you can find it.

Excellent Disco Music with Great Positive feedback.......1999-03-29

I've been looking for this Music for a year now. A friend of my lost 250 lbs and she looks great. I gave her New Attitude by Pattie Labelle and If my friends could see me now is a wonderful gift. I also need it for a Variety Show for children (all ages) who's self esteem and self worth is zero, because of various changes/dilemma in their lives. I have this great passion to manifest a variety show for a good cause. Linda clifford's "If my Friends Could see me now" is very powerful with excellent beats and young children respond to Disco music. I want to teach and show them they are beautiful inside and outside, and they are truly Special and Unique. At least, I can make a difference. I might not able to reach everyone, but I know in my heart I can touch a few, and that alone is truly a wonderful gift of all. This version of Linda Clifford's music inspired and helped me a great deal when changes occured in my life with 2 children, and Now..... If My Old Friends Could See Me Now....They will be amazed.... Please, Anybody out there!!!!! find this album/cd.....I need your help....

The song If my friends could see me now reached the #1 spot on the disco chart in 1978 and it's really great : Broadway, soul, R&B and disco are reunited in a campy 7:52 version superbly orchestrated by Gil Askey. The original version of this song is from the Broadway musical Sweet charity (1968). Runaway love (#3 R&B) is the other hit, a club classic more soulful than If my friends... Listen too to Gypsy lady and Broadway gypsy lady. If my friends..., Runaway love and Gypsy lady were available too in 12" versions. The powerful and expressive voice of Clifford is one of the best ever and she's the ultimate disco diva. This album -a must have- was originally issued by Curtom, Curtis Mayfield label and they both cut a duet album (The right combination) featuring the top 20 R&B Between you baby and me in 1979. After this album Clifford covered Bridge over troubled water in a disco version (1979) and she had three more #1 disco hits : Red light (from Fame in 1980), Shoot your best shot (1980) and Don't come crying to me (1982, on the album I'll keep on loving you that features the original version of All the man that I need, a gem !).
