This album contains excellent _bachata_ versions of songs originally popularized in other rhythms -- hits from mariachi, bolero, merengue and other traditions. Each song is beautifully arranged, lovingly played, and memorably sung. Especially charming are the artist's versions of "Ese," "Que Tristeza," "Pienso en Ti," and most of all, "Palomita Blanca." The album is so good that when my husband and I were dating, we each had to have our own CD; even though money was tight, this album was one of the few that had to be in both collections. The only flaw is the artist's grabbing on to the tradition of making sure one's songs can be credited no matter where they're played, by calling out one's own name in the middle of each song. (It's a little more jarring in bachata than it would be in, say, merengue.) Then again, if I were Andy Gonzalez and had to settle for having my name on the label in fine print, I'd make sure I got credit for such fine work, too.

Este álbum contiene excelentes versiones "bachata" de canciones originalmente popularizadas en otros ritmos -- los éxitos de tradiciones de mariachi, bolero, y merengue, entre otras. Cada canción tiene arreglo hermoso, instrumentación cariñosa, y canto inolvidable. Especialmente encantadoras son las versiones de "Ese", "Que Tristeza", "Pienso en Ti", y sobre todo, "Palomita Blanca." El álbum es tan bueno que cuando mi esposo y yo éramos novios, cada uno tenía de tener propio CD. Aún con escasez de fondos, este CD era entre los únicos con que tenía que contar cada colección. La única falta es que el artista agarra la tradición de asegurar su fama por gritar su nombre en medio de cada canción. (Molesta más a uno en canciones de bachata comparado con, digamos, las de merengue.) Pero, que yo fuera Andy Gonzalez, teniendo que conformarme con que el cubierto del CD solamente me anunciara en letra fina, yo me anunciaría en voz alta, también.
