i love this CD. I particularly love vengo con to and mama mia. These are songs that are so easy to dance to. She also has a very captivating voice.

This CD is absolutely amazing. It is a must for any Latin Jazz enthusiast if not just for the track 'Danzonete' which is an amazing number guaranteed to get anyone dancing.

she comes from the same talented family that gave us chu-chu Valdes and their father Bebo Valdes. She has been singing for a long time...but never recorded as a leader...her range is unbelivable...I don't think she has any limitations...it's just mind bugling that there are sooo much talented people in Cuba...everything in this Cd is first class..her voice..the band..the entire chemistry...this is a kind of CD which could be called a concept album...anotherwords...if you just play it..from the begining to the end..the whole album seems to be one long cut...it will get you...she can sing very rythmicaly..she can scat the bebop..she can sing very romantic latin bolero...she can do it all...just don't stop the music...

An excellent artist steps out on her own.......2007-03-19

For years I've known Mayra Casales as the percussionist for Regina Carter's ensemble. While I thoroughly enjoyed her in that role I never suspected the depth of her talent. "Woman on Fire: Mujer Ardiente" makes it clear that it's well and truly time for her to step into her own spotlight.

On this recording Casales shows off her skill and her range. Not only as a percussionist, but also as a fine singer (so fine, in fact, that she stands well with guest singer Carmen Lundy). The collection of songs on this CD are a variety of Latin-jazz pieces with the exception of a pair of beautiful ballads sung by Casales, most notably her solo voice-and-piano arrangement of "For All We Know" which closes out the CD. On the Latin numbers you really get to hear and feel Casales' Cuban roots come to the forefront as she demonstrates tricky interplay and changes as on the charanga-charged "Is It Love" (co-composed by Casales and Lundy). Mellower selections are no less enjoyable, like "Pipo" (featuring Regina Carter on violin) which feels like a cool Mojito on a warm Caribbean beach.

Fans of Cuban music and Latin-jazz now have a new artist to keep their eyes on. pick this CD up and look forward to more releases from the talented Mayra Casales.

Por algo este disco se llama simplemente "Mayra Mayra". A la verdad que esta merenguera puertorriqueña tiene muchisimo talento. Este disco dirigido por Jaime Querol y Luis Almonte es otro exito para Mayra Mayra. Los mejores temas lo son "Con Los Brazos Abiertos", "Hazme El Amor", "Se Acabo", "Yo Soy Melao", y "A Mi No Me Toca Na". Su voz es unica y en sus shows en vivo no hay quien resista bailar su merengue. Mayra Mayra es una de las merengueras con mas experiencia y talento. Mucho exito para Mayra.

Ella es una de las mejores artista en cuanto nos referimos a merengueras.Habran muchas pero solo de Puerto Rico se puede decir que la mayoria de sus merengueras son de calidad.Sus letras tienesn sentido y llevan mensajes ...Solo Mayra Mayra y Olga Tanon son las verdaderas merengueras y no son de el monton.Ademas hay que decir que la dominicana Milly Quezada es una merenguera que ha sido inspiracio para las anteriores mencionadas...Milly gracias por tu bella musica y tu excelente voz.Y a Mayra por esa voz tan privilegiada y preciosa y por tu bella musica ehh!!Olga Tanon lo mismo experiencia no inventen que con olga ,mayra y milly no puedennnnn....

Este es el primer disco de Mayra y Celines, tremendo disco. Despues de 3 disco compuesto, Mayra y Celines cojieron caminos diferentes en el cual cada una de ellas grabaron disco apartes, en el cual son muy buenos. Mayra ha grabado 4 disco de merengue y 1 de boleros, Celines solo tiene 3 disco. Esperemos que estas dos artista se unan de nuevo para un disco bien bailable.
