I would like to start out by saying i am so grateful that this man (who rearranged the letters in his name (Adam Pierce) to spell out "mice parade" .. pretty accurate description if you ask me) remains a hidden gem. People who don't appreciate music from where it's supposed to come from should never EVER have the "misfortune" of listening to the flat out RAW originality and innovation that this album possesses.

As i'm listening to "the days before fiction" (irony? think about it) i am really trying to figure out what to say. the beginning is truly sublime, and the song itself explores so much musical territory that it would almost be a crime not let it all soak in. the drum patterns displayed are simply remarkable, and some of the time signatures are unmatched by anything i've ever heard. It's obvious this guy is IN-LOVE with music, and the end just transcends really the essence of what music is about. In no way shape or form am i exaggerating this; and if you haven't gotten it yet, either let it sink in or put the album down and never touch it again .. because you really don't deserve that pair of headphones.

"Waterslide" continues this idea of actually making music for music's sake when you take into account the constantly shifting time signatures and drum patterns. Here he is essentially hypnotizing you and forcing you to listen to the vast number of sounds created. There is so much going on sometimes that it becomes O-V-E-R-W-H-E-L-M-I-N-G (believe that) to the casual listener who most likely is looking to hear something immediately inviting. Yeah sorry, this requires some well deserved attention. Jay-Z said it best i must admit .. "Do Ya'll fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?"

at about the 2:40 mark of "ground as cold as common" there is yet another drum beat void of any comparisons to anything that's being put out today. An undoubtedly spacey hypnotic tune that just sort of goes where it's meant to, without being pretentious or contrived. It all feels completely natural, and no one sequence of his music ever wears out it's welcome because there is always something new within the song that never ceases to amaze.

one of the only comparisons i can make that becomes apparent is on "steady as she goes" where the opening drum sequence and feel of the song reminds me a bit of tortoise (TNT?) with their unique and abstract approach to creating music. Only unlike most of tortoises musical output, these songs actually go somewhere, and feel complete by the time it's all over.

That being said, At times adam pierce's music is reminiscent of aphex twin without relying on as much electronic sound, (drums for example) or artists like caribou, manitoba (before they were called caribou), tortoise etc ... but what sets him apart from the rest is the fact that he's bringing something new to the table, something fresh and unique, while at the same time maintaining that vision of how H-I-S music should sound.. without getting caught up in what everyone else is doing. He is single-handedly inventing his own genre while at the same time resurrecting music ... and quite frankly, it feels incredible.

I think this album (in all its softness and quirkyness) is among the best released in 2005. It gracefully blends unusal drumming and pop undertones into something which is approchable. Even then, there are bits of noise and randomness which contribute to make the album feel slightly different each time I listen to it.

a rather trippy and soothing piece of music that spirals its way into your aural labyrinths. It's whimsical, jazzy and projects a fresh and unique sound.

Bem-Vinda Vontade is an amazing piece of work. The intrumentation is classic Adam Pierce. To put a cherry on top of a already delicious musical dish lyrics have been sprinkled where necessary. I highly recommend picking this one up!

Baden Powell a vontade.......2005-12-02

Baden Powell's "A Vontade" - which means feeling very relaxed - can be seen as the true first and personal album on Elenco, which was recorded in 1963. Finally, he left behind musical conventions and the heavily orchestrated arrangements of the fifties. With Bossa Nova having highest commercial success at that time he still plays his Afro-Sambas and shows his own musical point of view.

Baden Powell plays in his preferred small combo setting, often even without a bass player. The record opens with an instrumental version of the hit "Garota de Ipanema" which is followed by Baden Powell's "Berimbau". Some titles will be recorded only once, others he would record and perform many times. The last song, Samba Triste, comes in a slower solo version, partly sounding like an accompaniment version.

Possibly Baden Powell's greatest recording.......2005-10-11

I don't have the japanese import CD edition of a Vontade, but I do have the Baden Powell Box CD set, and this recording is included as part of his more or less complete opus through the 1970's. This disk has become my hands-down favorite of his recorded work through that period. It is completely unique in the way guitar and percusion work together and the way they are recorded and mixed. The production standard of this disk is amazingly cool for that period, a time when over-production was the rule and many otherwise brilliant recordings were ruined for subsequent generations. This, on the other hand, is well recorded with a naked sort of feel throughout. The guitar playing is tight and energized and shows Powell at his finest; the flute playing is also excellent, but there is a special improvisational interplay between the percussion and the guitar which I have not heard elsewhere. Sarongaio and Conversa Poeta are my favorite examples of what I am talking about, although the entire song selection for this disc is brilliant. Listening to this recording is always a pleasure and a source of amazement. If I was only allowed one Baden Powell recording (actually I have pretty nearly all of them) this one would be it.

One more masterpiece from Marcos.......2006-09-01

This CD is only a little over 34 minutes long, but boy!! do you get your money's worth big time.
Here Marcos paints another beautiful musical watercolor with hues of Jazz, Funk and Samba, making a very enjoyable recording from beginning to end.
A great addition to this recording is the participation of Peter Cetera of Chicago and Leon Ware featuring both in song:
"A Paraiba Nao E Chicago" as well as co-writing several of these songs.
Another absolute must-have for die-hard fans of Marcos Valle and beautiful Brazilian Music.
