Customer Reviews:
Various Artists, NOT La Tropa Vallenata.......2005-12-11
The one track by La Tropa Vallenata, "Chambacu", is a remake of a classic, recorded some time ago by a young girl(?) by name of Aurita Castillo. Like many Cumbia songs, it may be an old traditional number that has been covered by many over the years. Aurita's version is very cute, yet good; she sings well. It can be found on various Cumbia collections, for example on the Discos Fuentes label (I don't know of any on Amazon: I bought mine in Mexico).
The LTV version is a bit wild and loose - like they were pretending to be borracho perhaps - but good and tight, nice vocals. For completist fans of LTV, it may be worth buying this CD, as their version does not appear on any of their signature albums. For others, this album gives a decent range of Columbian/Tropical/Cumbia music by a number of artists.
The best albums to start with for LTV are "Los Caminos de la Vida" (big chart album in 1995), "Cumbia de los Pobres", and "Cumbias de mi Tierra". The do several Colombian styles besides Cumbia.
Muy Sabroso!...(Not meant to eat!).......2000-12-04
nice variety.......2000-01-03
I have Cumbias de mi Tierra, and it has great harmonies and unique arrangements, really a tight CD. I like that one far more than any of the others, based on the samples...
