The Best Nek Album So Far.......2007-03-18

I've never had a Nek album before, so I started out with this. I was not disappointed in the least. Nek's style is romantic pop/rock, and it comes out clearly with each song. I had no idea he had been creating music since the early 90's, and it was great to hear a wide range of his songs on this album.

I understand some Italian, so my respect for his lyrics soared. Even if you can't understand the Italian language, don't be discouraged. It's still good music! If you like romantic ballads with a bit of attitude, pick up "L'anno Zero." You'll be pleasantly surprised.

I am not mad about Nek, but decided to give it a try buying this one. I think it is very good. A great choice if you want to have one Nek album.

Well, in my humble opinion this is NEK's best album alongside with the other one called UNA PARTE DI ME (basically his newest one). Just for the record, as for the latter one, in my review I wrote that this album was out in two versions and the only thing that distinguishes them is only one word (look the review up and you shall have the difference - although both versions are incredible).

Now to this album, well, what can someone say except that it is incredible; from the song SEI SOLO TU (which also comes in another version with LAURA PAUSINI, not in this album) or the rest such as, LAURA NON C'E'. Either way, this album has a balanced mix from pop ballads to more `faster' pop songs. As for the singer, alongside with Eros, Laura Pausini and a few others, he belongs to the category of the most known Italian singers in the international scene (something you will also realize very soon when you listen to this album).

Highly recommended!!!

I think this CD has been in my 6-disc CD changer at least 90% of the 2+ years that I've owned it. Every time I take it out, it seems to somehow find its way back into the changer after a couple of weeks. I do own two other Nek CDs but this one is clearly the "Best of". Although it's hard to pick a favorite track off of this album, "In Te" is the one that probably gets me at the deepest level. Not only is the melody hauntingly emotional, the lyrics are even more powerful and understanding them can make one appreciate Nek as an artist even more. If you only buy one Nek CD, make it this one.

Laura non c'e indeed..........2005-08-11

L'Anno Zero contains the hits that you need from Nek's career. Of the new tracks you should ignore the facile "Almeno Stavolta," but "L'Anno Zero" is a keeper. As for the rest of the songs, you can't really go wrong. That is, EXCEPT for "Sei Solo Tu". This would have been an exceptional example of Italian rock at it's best. It comes from 2002's Le Cose Da Defendere (another fine Nek album for your collection), and on that album it was featured as a duet with Laura Pausini. However, for some inexplicable reason (probably licensing), here it does not include Pausini's vocals! The duet was the version that hit big in Italy, not this. Don't give us only half of one of Nek's biggest songs. It would be like having a greatest hits album of Kid Rock where only he sings "Picture". Quibbling aside, if you don't own most or any of Nek's previous albums this is a good choice.

i kinda stumbled onto this album, only having heard the very catchy "laura no esta" once on the radio and having absolutely no idea who nek was -- and i lucked out! this disk is fabulous. i sing along to each and every song. a mi me encantan TODAS las canciones del disco

I don't care what anyone else sais; to me, Nek is the only REAL Slayer vocalist. Forget Tom Araya, his voice isn't half as powerful as Nek's!!! Nek's first solo record features a little too much death/black influences for my taste. For example, let's take "Laura Non Ce" , it's far too opaque for me, as I'm used to clean vocals like ("Angel Of Death", for example). Nonetheless, NEk is very strong album, despite the appealing black metal influences in the beginning of the album. Still almost essential for any REAL speed metal fan.

I really enjoy Nek's music, and he is a very talented singer. The songs have an edge, yet at the same time are sort of romantic, and the melodies have the "hooks" that all good songs have. The tunes are catchy and he does an awesome job of delivering them. He is definately one of the best singers our there, with a far better voice than Ricky and Enrique.

Nek's latest is brief, with no surprises.......2007-04-29

Nek fans will only be disappointed by the brevity of this release (approx. 36 min.). This CD features songwriters not on other Nek releases, but I did not find any surprises. Nek's sound remains very much the same. If you enjoy his "Best of" and the last two CD-album releases, you'll more than likely enjoy this one, too, as it is very entertaining and among his best -- every song could be released as a single.

N.B. Nek is a great listening-comprehension aid for Italian-language students : the lyrics are sung clearly and they are included in the CD's booklet.

I like too much the songs, voice and interpretation of Nek, however I like much more the other cds of Nek. This Cd is acceptable but it is not great and it is very expensive for the content. Because I am a fan of Nek I bought it but it is the Cd which have liked me less among all.
I hope he records more cds as good as the others.

His Best CD!.......2007-03-28

I've been listening to NEK forever, i have all his CD's and i can honestly say that this one is the best one so far, it's awesome! I do agree with one of the comments above that some of the songs are kind of "cheesy italian pop" but non the less what i like about this one is that cheesy or not the ideas and meaning of the songs blend together beautifully, and the MUSIC! the best music in all his CD's! Awesome soulful sounds for a lot of them, beautiful over all. I actually love every song in the CD, which is rare for me. A must have if you like him. Don't worry if you don't know italian, it doesn't matter, to feel the music you don't need to understand the words.

I like all of his music, even though you could consider some of it very cheesy Italian pop. He has grown up though with the last 2 discs. On this one his voice is as beautiful as ever and the songs are just pleasant and soulful. Definitely one of his best CDs so far.

I bought this CD when I went to Italy and I can't stop lisining to it. This is the first Italian CD that I own of him and I was missing a lot. Nek sounds much better singing in Italian!

Nek's music definitely exudes a powerful vibe. His music is very infectious. My girlfriend who does not speak Italian is now singing Nek tunes around our apartment. How great is that ? The best way to describe Nek to anyone unfamiliar with his music is think Sting to Ricky Martin. This comparison best describes Nek's far ranging talents. To many great tracks on this CD to single out any. All I can say is enjoy! Forza la musica italiana!!

If you love Nek in Spanish, then you'll love him in Italian, and if you haven't heard him in either, you'll simply love him. His voice is great and his lyrics are very cool, even if you don't get a bit of Itallian (or Spanish).

For me a time and a place are often closely associated with memorable songs. I first saw and heard the video to Ci Sei Tu last September while emtying my house in Turin.
Ci Sei Tu left such an impression on me at the time, that I have been meaning to buy the album ever since. I liked it so much I have now bought all his others! The Italian language is always a powerful medium to express the feelings of a lover. Nek sings with such passion and clear projection that you just have to stop and listen to him. This is the very best of popular Italian music which deserves a much a wider audience.

I didn't give this album 5 stars because I liked the roughness (by comparison) of "Lei, gli amici.." better. I haven't heard "In Due" yet, but this one is more professional sounding and bit more laid-back. So it's all a matter of what mood you're in, in my opinion. If you're relaxing in the back yard, or where ever, then this album is perfect. I think that overall, it's a great album. I can definetly hear some Ricky Martin sounds in there. Ex:the beginning of "Pieno d'energia"/"La Vida Loca" And does "Missile Speciale" sound like a mix of the Rolling Stones' "You can't Always Get What U Want" and Ricky Martin's "She's All I Ever Had" to anyone else? maybe it's just me...

Perfetto!!!.......2000-11-21

Nek's latest CD La vite e` is a wonderful change full of many new sounds. I was very happy to see that although his style is evolving and growing with even more originality, there is still enough of his original style that his fans have grown to love. My favorite song is probably "Sul Treno" but all of the songs are catchy, original, and almost entoxicating. I noticed that the translation of the texts of the songs to spanish were pretty much true to the original meaning of the italian songs...that's always a plus. Don't forget to add this to your CD collection.

So which is better, the Italian or Spanish version?.......2004-02-26

I've listened to both the Italian and Spanish versions and both are excellent! But because Italian tends to end every word in a vowel, words have a smoother ending, which isn't bad at all. In Spanish, however, there is a good mix of words ending in vowels and consonants. So at least to me, it makes the Spanish version sound more Rock-like because of the harder consonant endings compared to endings that nearly always end in vowels that trail off (sounding less rocky i guess?), as in Italian. Nonetheless, BOTH are way awesome!!

Nek's best album yet!.......2003-12-29

I'm a huge fan of this Italian born singer and I'd have to say this is his best album to date. Nek is such a talented singer and songwriter. He has an absolutely amazing voice, which is somewhat reminiscent of Sting. The Spanish and Italian versions are very, very similar, so it doesn't really matter which one you purchase...they're phenomenal regardless! I'll definitely purchase his greatest album "L'anno Zero...The Best of Nek" that was just released recently. Don't hesitate in purchasing this album (or any of Nek's music)...you'll love it! :)

I was introduced to Neks music while living in Puerto Rico a few years ago. I was on the beach with a bunch of people from Haiti having a good time and they played Neks Entre Tu y Yo album. Needless to say i was very impressed. his music just flows and sticks in your head. i was still learning spanish back then and memorized all his songs (which by the way is one of the best ways to learn a language) plus i had lots of good oneliners for the ladies ;) now i've got all his cd's in spanish except for this cosas que defenderé. i sampled five of the songs and already made up my mind that it rocks.

I purchased this CD on a whim since I've never heard of Nek, but I was intrigued by another reviewer's comment who compared Nek to Sting. On this CD, I've got to agree that his style is very similar to Sting. If you like Sting, you'll like this CD.

I've only got a very basic understanding of Spanish, but I enjoy listening to Latin music. As with CDs in any language, you find one or two (if you're lucky) tracks that are good and the rest is junk. On this CD, I found all 11 tracks to be outstanding. I especially like his song "Tan Solo Tu" with Laura Pausini.

Based on this CD, I later purchased two of Nek's earlier CDs - "La Vida Es" and "Entre Tu Y Yo." It's a good thing that I purchased this CD first since I might not have purchased it based on these two earlier CDs. There are a few good tracks on "Entre Tu Y Yo," but overall I wasn't too impressed. The CD "La Vida Es" (I'd give it 4 stars) is much better than the CD "Entre Tu Y Yo" (I'd give it 3 stars). I guess this shows Nek's progressive improvement as a singer or he's gotten a much better producer.

Italian vs Spanish version.......2003-07-31

What can I say? I have 3 of this guys cd's from being in Italy...including this one in Italian. But when a friend of mine got the spanish version...it sounds almost the same. I personally like the Italian better due to the smoother language of italian. Even though they are both a latin lanuage...
I give 2 thumbs up for both versions!! Quando non ci sei has to be my favorite!!

One of the greatest singer-songwriters in Italy...!!!.......2003-09-11

His music is really cool, his voice (despite Sting) is unique, and his lyrics are full of feelings! Nek is one of the best italian singer-songwriters ever. He has been making his own songs for a very long time and he also sings in Spanish AND English! This 9-songs CD is the second one in his carreer, with many hit-singles like "Uomo Con Te" and "Figli Di Chi". It also contains his first hit-single from his first album in Italy ("Amico Mio"), along with many other good songs like "Il Muro Di Berlino C'é" and "In Te", which also names this album. For all Italian-language-and/or-music lovers and italian-rock/pop fans: this CD is a must-have!

Nek is a Incredible artist.......2000-06-23

After having studied abroad in Italy for five months I never have seen and heard anything as beautiful as Nek and his music. After having bought one of his CDs, I had to buy them all. He is just so much fun to listen to and his words are very different than I am used to, but thought provoking and wonderful. Luckily, before I was forced to leave Italy and return to the States(practically kicking and screaming) his newest CD came out La Vita E' and it is by far the most fun and the most romantic at the same time. He really has come a long way. Though I am fluent in both Italian and English, I hope someday he will sing a song in English so that music fans around the world who do not understand Italian or Spanish, can appreciate as I do his voice, his words, his style and his beautiful face!

Yeah, his voice does sound a little like Sting, but his music has more in common with the working class rock and roll typified by Bruce Springsteen before The Boss ate a monster slice of morose pie and got deep starting with "Nebraska." Nek's music is more about cruisin' the Jersey boardwalk with the wind in your hair, and making plans with your friends on a lazy summer day with endless possibilities ahead. Okay, so he's singing in Italian so I don't reeeeeeally know what the songs are about, but they smell like my adolescent years to me.

The first song you're going to want to turn to on this CD is Track #3, Se Una Regola C'e. This is his biggie, the song I heard on radio stations from Vienna to Istanbul in the summer of '99. It starts with a guitar riff that faintly echoes of Born to Run, albeit without the signature bass line. Nek launches directly into his singing with a melody that catches you and throws you around and spits you out right before the chorus comes along and hits you upside the head. Try listening to this song at high and low volumes- the louder you play him, the better he sounds.

Two other knockout songs are Ho In Testa Te, a slower song that has the feel of a chant about the verses, while the chorus parts soar in an easy floating melody, and Se Vuoi Se Puoi, which doesn't immediately appeal but grows on you.

He's got the slow ballads, too, and they're good, but you expect that from an Italian teen heart throb.

Unlike Latin American artists like Jon Secada, Ricky Martin and Marc Anthony who actually sound better in Spanish than they do singing identical songs in English, I think Nek would do well in translation. I've seen some of his stuff in Spanish but no English versions yet.

Italy's "Sting"?.......2007-05-12

This guy's voice sounds so much like Sting, formerly of the old band Police. He is great! The album has a couple of stand out tunes, like "Cielo e terra", "Se Solo tu" (duet with the lovely Laura Pausini) and the title track. You'll get a bit of English lyric here, too, in the duet with Dante Thomas.

Great Compilation of Songs.......2007-03-28

I bought this CD while only having heard one song "Le Cose da Difendere" because i loved the song and i can honestly say that the CD overall is VERY good, ofcourse 1 or 2 songs that i could have done without but nice non-the less. I also speak Spanish and the Spanish version of the CD "La Cosa que Defendere" has nothing to shame from the origianl Italian one, it's also great! This guy's awesome, i love his music and this CD (a lot more contemporary than his others) is a nice change.
p.s. Try his latest album "Nella Stanza 26" in my opinion the best CD he's ever done, it's AMAZING!

happily surprised.......2004-01-18

Before I had bought this cd I'd only heard "sei solo tu" and I wasn't sure was the album worth of it's price. Fortunately it was. When I'd listened the album I was sure that this artist truly has a talent. He can sing, he can compose, he can write great songs. What else do you need? Nek has a amazing voice, very strong. He has used lots of guitars which I really do like. I'd say that he's music is a little bit more rock version of Eros Ramazzotti's music.

I first heard about Nek when I heard "Laura No Esta" a couple years ago in my high school Spanish class and I've been a die hard fan ever since. I luckily caught a Nek special in Milan when I went to Italy this past summer, which was fabolous. Unfortunately, I missed a Nek concert because he was performing a month before I arrived. Nek has a phenomenal voice and beautiful lyrics. He has excellent collaborations on this CD with Laura Pausini and Dante Thomas. This is his best album thus far. Nek is absolutely amazing to say the least. I HIGHLY recommend this CD...you won't regret purchasing it!
