Mack 10's best album to date.......2005-11-30

After hos solid self-titled debut album and the huge success of Westside Connection's "Bow Down" , it was the perfect timing for Mack 10 to release his second album. "Based on a True Story" continues what Bow Down had started - GREAT beats with nothing but West Coast gangsta rap on it. Although Mack 10 lacks Ice Cube and WC's carisma or lyrical abilities, he's still a talented rapper, with a unique voice and high street cred. "Based on a true story" is much beter than his debut, with much much better production and rapping. On this album, Mack 10 sounds the best he's ever sounded - nowdays his rapping is a bit to laid back, lacking emotion - but on this one, Mack One O raps with energy, sounding real hard on quite a few. Lyrically it's all about the streets on this one, drug dealing, killing, hustlin'. No sex songs, no cars songs, just gangsta sh** to the fullest. The production is very impressive. Ant Banks did 4 songs (some of the best are his), Young Tre, Soopafly, Bob Cat, Mack 10 and Ice Cube did the rest. It's West Coast rap at it's highest form and I feel it's a great follow-up to "Bow Down". Guest rappers are AllFrumThaI, Comrads, Ice Cube (on 2 songs and all over the album as well), Snoop Dogg (you can hardly hear his voice on that song, he almost whispers his verse)...I only wish WC was on it too, but it's all good... There's no attempt to go mainstream on this album: It was recorded when West Coast rap was at it's peak, in terms of quality and popularity, so rappers could go on and do their thing without fearing the album won't sell. You won't skip a track on this one, I give you my word, Mack 10's second album is his best solo release ever. Nothing he did after that can match "Based on a true story".

I like this CD by Mack 10. I cant say its his best, thats why I gave it a 4, but I still find myself bumbing this cd in my truck quite often. Backyard boogie has a tight beat, and the chicken hawk 2 is also a great hit. If you like Mack then grab this cd. Mack still keepin it GaNgStA!

With this album, Mack 10 starts to mature as a rapper. His lyrics are less "in your face" most of the time and a little more introspective. The last track on the album, BASED ON A TRUE STORY, is most reflective of this. BACKYARD BOOGIE is a bumpin' party track, INGLEWOOD SWANGIN' is a salute to his hometown, and THE GUPPIES is a mafia type gangsta tale.

The production on this album is very good...tight beats and slick interpolation. Mack's lyrics have matured and have acquired a unique flow. Overall, this is a very well rounded album. A definite gem in the rap game.

Gooding: Musical Innovator, Genius, Prodigy.......2003-11-24

I met Gooding at one of the band's shows almost 3 years ago, and as a musician I can say that Gooding's music has influenced me a great deal.

Gooding is without a doubt one of (if not "THE") the greatest guitartist currently on the musical scene. His guitar work is clean, flawless and refined. This is a guy who has lived and breathed every square inch of the fretboard for most of his life. Definitely a diamond waiting to be found, and when found will definitely be revered with the likes of Hendrix, etc.

But, he's more than that... his composition and producer-abilities are not to be overlooked. He is a complete musician with a distinct sound and style. One only need hear 30 seconds of any track off of WINTER'S RETURN, 3X, or FACTORY BLUE to conclude the same.

My personal favorite off of LIFE ITSELF is, SLOW BURN. The bass's groove walks into the song and sets the mood for this rockin' song, accompanied by the guitar with a "leave me alone" attitude...building the platform for Gooding's unique vocal style. It's awesome.

Gooding is obviously a master of his craft. The sacrifices he's made in his personal life have been the offerings to the Gods, and when he takes it to the stage his performance is the gift from the Gods to the audience of listeners present.

Don't buy one CD. Buy all of Gooding's CDs.

Last but not least, Gooding is truly a humanitarian. He's a great friend and an incredible energy to people. Would you expect anything else?

having seen The Gooding Band only twice, and having now bought 4 of the bands, and or Gooding himself's CD's, I can say this, the musicians on this album are amazing. The musicians in this band are amazing. This band is amazing, their music is original and funky, and wonderful to listen to. they rock out, they know what they are doing and their music showcases their unique style and wonderful musical taste,

(i have to say when I first saw the band, and heard that Gooding was a fan of Ani Difranco and i was to see her live in just over a week, I was so excited because I love Ani, and his guitar work is just a fantastic as Ani, he can do things to a guitar that I have never seen anyone do besides Ani D!!)

and when they jam you know they are on stage loving every single bit of it. its a rarity to see nowadays. I recommend every CD that this band has released, because simply, it is some of the best music being released now. They are a truly original band, with some flavor, and with so much talent its scary. I love seeing them, they are great people, having met them and talked with them, they are just as awesome in person as they are live, kind and funny, and they deserve every bit of praise they get. Please dont let a chance like this pass by you, get this CD, get all of their CD's put them on, and just start grooving, because you can't go wrong with these guys. i promise! thanks for making some of the most wonderful music guys!

I may be a bit biased..........2002-10-23

...considering the fact that Gooding is my cousin, but I would be lying were I to call my accolades anything even approaching nepotism. He has been blowing my mind since we were kids with his unparalleled innovations, comprised of the most eclectic musical genres I've heard since Dave Matthews (and Cuz, there ain't no higher compliment to be given!). This newest album is no exception, and exceeded even my expectations with its ungoverned explorations of jazz, funk, and Gooding Special Sauce. Catch him live, if you can, and if you can't, be sure to pick up this CD and take him home with you. Excellent party fodder, with a wake-you-up smell that is better than mocha java.

Not bad for a Video Game Soundtrack.......2006-02-21

Being a Playstation 2 owner, its a pleasure to be able to have a game "and" have a killer soundtrack to go with it. True Crime has an all around cast of rappers making with some very good rhymes and the beats are excellent! Snoop Dogg gets things started and Warren-G has by far, one of the hottest cuts on this CD! There are about 20 tracks on this CD and at least 15 of them were hard hitting tracks. Now thats quality!!!!! The CD lives up to the hype of the actual game itself.

I think True Crime is an excellent action game. However, I feel the soundtrack is extremely lackluster. Most of the songs sound the same, and aren't really that interesting. Even worse, my favorite songs from the game(such as the one that plays during the spa shootout or the music from the battle with Kim) aren't even on the CD. Personally, I think only extremely hardcore fans of the game should check it out, the rest should stay away.

Could Have been better.......2004-11-15

With all of the rap songs that are onthe video game they could have put together something much better. It has it's highpoints but after about the 10th track, there is nothing really worth listening to and I usually turn it off. All of the big named rappers and good songs are in the beginning of the CD (except 1)then they get some no names that make junk. Not recommended - download the 7 or 8 that are worth it and skip the rest.

Although I would definatly NOT recommend buying this Soundtrack.. It does feature a few BLAZIN tracks like "Hollywood" by Bizzy Bone, "Legends" by Boo Ya Tribe, "True Crime Rmx"(The New West Edition) by Young Dre, "Don't Do The Crime" by Above The Law & Kam & "Thug Night" by Jay-o-Felony... I recommend u download these songs & pretend this soundtrack never existed!!

THREE OBSCURE DISCO CLASICS.......2003-05-20

This album from the heyday of disco includes at least three underground club classics: Le's All Chant by the Michael Zager Band, a weird chant that was a disco Number One in 1978 and also made it big on the pop charts, Whitney's mom Cissy Houston's magnificent Think It Over, a real club stormer, and Andrea True's eurodisco hit What's Your Name What's Your Number, a song that really reflected the nature of those decadent disco days. Let's All Chant has been revived by many different artists down the years but none of these cover versions has the weird otherworldly sound of the original. Get this album for these dance classics, they're far better than most of today's Techno and House music.

This album is not worth your money or your time. The only decent song is the first track, all the other are just imitations of it. I'll admit that I'm pretty picky about my disco music, this one doesn't measure up.

A seriously funky album! What's nice about it is that most of the CD is compiled of songs that many a funky chicken has heard before...they're classics but with a twist. Each track sounds refreshing because they sound as if they have been tweaked by the respective artists...It's as if each cut selected was submitted as the artists favourite version.

Anyway...with summer coming around this CD will definitley liven up anything from your granny's Dawoo Matiz to a beach party with attitude.

So any remotley Funky Flava lovin individuals would have this CD in their repertoire!!!

This is a hideous CD. It's one of those things you give people as a joke, because it is so funny. I found it in a dollar pile at a CD store in San Marcos, Texas, and is the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Unfortunately, I've recently lost it and have no way of getting it back, and I miss it. I wish I could find it for a dollar again, because 15 bucks isn't worth it.
In short: It's cool these guys are doing what they love, but it is really really hilarious listening to them doing it.

Unlike their Digital Hardcore label mates Atari Teenage Riot or EC8OR, Berlin's Fever don't speed by at 200 bpm in a blizzard of manic sound bites and rabid drum machines. fever=bomb 20-speed+vocals.......1999-03-04

Fever is a bran-spankin new addition the the Digital Hardcore family. They may not be as fast as their lable mates(EC8OR, Bomb 20, Atari Teenage Riot,etc...) but just as intense. Their rap sytle vocals are all but lost in the confusion of their distorted beats and video game bass line. This duo explains that all rap isn't about stealing 80's songs. A must have for any DHR fan!!!

digital hardcore vs hip-hop.......1998-12-13

it has some of the typical dhr noises but throws a couple of new video game sounds out. the drum beats are more steady and not as noisy as other dhr but still noisy compared to any other electronic music. the entire album is "rapped" over in the style of a jamaican guy except without the accent. better than current pop stuff and good to see new stuff coming from dhr, but it is better to wait for the new atari teenage riot or to pick up patric catani's "100 decisions per second."
