Formed by Valentin Cane, Bassist Pablo "Babu" Vasquez, Vocalist Eugene Perez, Timbale Player Manuel "Jimagua" Sanchez, Trumpet Player Ismael Goberna, and Guitarists Domingo Medina, Jose Manuel Valera, Julio Gobin, and Juan Llopiz Baptist, the Band Has Gone Through Many Personnel Changes in More Than Seven Decades. Vocalists in the Group have Included Daniel Holy, Nelson Pinedo, Albert Beltran, Bobby Hood, Argentine Carlos, and Its Greatest Alumni, Celia Cruz. Original Director, Valentin Cane, Led the Band Until Poor Health Forced Him to Retire at the End of the 1930s. Initially Known as Septeto Soprano, the Group Adapted Its Name to La Sonora Matancera in 1932. Every Bad Boy Needs A Bad Girl.......2007-02-24

The group Total came out when Bad Boy was on top and they really stoodout for a while. On their debut, this album was pretty solid although they didn't have the best voices the choice of songs showcased their vocals well. Pam had that distinct voice that you knew a Total song when you heard it. Keisha was the savvy one, and Kima had a baby voice. Anyway the best tracks on the album are "Don't Ever Change", "Kissin' You", "No One Else",and "Spend Some Time". There really aren't any filler tracks so if you haven't already should definitely check out these "former" Bad Girls.

I listened to this disc for the first time in a while and was again surprised at how good a debut this is. This album debuted at a golden time for Bad Boy Records and the tone and brash attitude of the trio instantly distinguished them from the other r&b girl groups of that era. The monster hit off of the disc is CAN'T YOU SEE which still sounds great years later.

Oh well. Off the Heezy.......2005-09-27 I really thought this cd was well developed. I think the girls have truely matured and with their second album showed us what the real Total was all about. The whole cd was great especially the two singles that were dropped "Trippin" and "Sittin at Home." But in addition i also enjoyed "Bet She Can't" "Rain" "Move Too Fast" and "Press Rewind" Although I would have to say due to the raunchy lyrics the age group definately went up on this cd, I think it was great and deserves much props. Kima, Keisha, and Pam-The mature Total also known as bad girls of Bad Boy.......2005-05-13 I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. It was blazing. The return of the girls on this album are revived,polished,and mature. On the album, Their flava is poignantly displayed. Missy Elliott wrote 6 of the album's tracks. The single,Trippin,shows us the familiar funky side of Total. The girls co-wrote 7 songs on the album. This album has been certified Gold. Remember,this was 1998-1999. Bolder and tougher than their debut! .......2005-02-06 I thought that Total's second album from 1998 was far better than their first album. Bolder, tougher and edgier than the Puffy dominated debut! The shift to Missy Elliott was a smart move as she and Timbaland handled many of their songs. I like Trippin' and I Tried as well as many of the others. The songs have a more sexual tone than the safe feel of the debut. I liked the funky remix of What About Us, which is heavy on the beats. Maybe the album's coarser themes didn't grab many people that year. They'd still be out there now if they had to. Total actually sound good over Timbaland's choppy rhythms and beats. The throwaway song on here is that Khris Kellow-produced ballad. This Diane Warren-written ballad doesn't work for them here--it's too light a song to match with their bad girl image. I still say this is the better Total album and the right one to match with that bad girl, no nonsense feel of theirs. Average customer rating: Awesome Set! Customer Reviews: Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01 I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music! Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03 This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton? Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11 Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo. Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm). Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks". It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison. But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva. Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22 It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius! Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31 Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having. However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe. However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan. Customer Reviews: The Moon And The Tower!.......2006-11-05 The "Tower" is the tarot card which depicts an interruption of the normal course of things. The "Moon" tarot card signifies action overcoming lethargy. Billy Cobham successfully disrupts the sluggish rhythm of typical R&B/Jazz and slips into the beyond with an energy unheard of during this period. This album was (and still is) WAY ahead of its time! Cobham-Musician And Composer At His Cleverist.......2005-09-13 Considering that 1974's 'Total Eclipse' is Mr.Cobham's third studio recording (and was already in pretty heady company in his catalog even when it came out) this is a likely candidate for Cobham's best album and trust me I have heard most of them.Why?Because with the exception of the closing "Last Frontier" (a drum solo) this album is basically devoid of alot of flashy bombastic drumming on Cobham's part.Just great use of sustained intensity on the wonderful "Solarization" suite. The title concepts for most of these tunes refer to various astronomical phenomenon.And in the case of the ultra funky "Lunarputians" just an excuse to use aliens as an excuse to groove (a concept later used with vocals by a guy named George Clinton).Some elements of this album are very heavily jazzy such as "Sea Of Tranquillity" and the title track emphasizes one of the most important parts of this albums appeal-the tunes here are some of the all time best compositions Cohbam has created. It wasn't exactly a bad thing either that Billy had the help of 'The Billy Cohbam Players' as they are credited.These players include John Abercrombie,the Brecker's, and the magnificant Alex Blake on bass.And I say that funnily in tribute to some community radio DJ's in my neck of the woods playing acoustic jazz who love to list EACH band member followed by the instrument they play.They probably would never play an album like this on their shows but if I had a radio show I sure would play this....okay MASTERPIECE and proudly list the musicians and what they play because without Billy AND the mutual collaberation of these great artists this album would'nt be exactly what it was.Integrity at it's finest! Absolutely the BEST.......2004-12-30 Cobham is the best drummer and on this album he shows his composing ability. Total Eclipse is by far the best in the Cobham collection in my book. John Abercrombie's guitar work is great and the opening piece will leave you on the edge of your seat. There's a little funk and a little jazz and a whole lotta great drumming throughout. We knew that once "Funky Thide of Sings" came out, "Total Eclipse" couldn't be too far behind. If you ever get anything by Cobham, THIS is the one to get.
