Sala lovers beware - if you don't own this album you are missing one of the best live salsa recordings ever! The sound quality is like no other. Soldado y Jibaro soy are my all time favorites. These songs were embedded in me during my childhood and now the masterpiece is on a 2 CD 30 Aniversary set. Saludos mi gente !!!

Solamente lo conozco por su reputacion en mi pais. Cuando me mude a este pais casi lo conocia. Y la gente que sabia de el no le daba el respeto que este pianista se merece. Y con todo y eso que su trompetista murio en este estado que es Connecticut. Siempre me ha gustado su musica y aprendo un mensaje nuevo cada vez que escucho su musica. No hace mucho vi su concierto en una tienda en el centro de compras y lo compre. Que se podia esperar de este aniversario, solamente lo mejor, recuerdos y melancolias.

I was driving around the city of San Francisco listening to Chata Gutierrez as I always do on Saturdays. I was so blown away by the music and by her interview with Ralfi Leavitt that I had to pull the car over so that I wouldn't get into a car accident! THE TUNES KEPT COMING!

One of the best CD's I've ever bought. If you like live albums, you will love this...if you don't like live albums, this one you will cause it's so smooth that you can't tell the difference!

Super LIVE production.......2003-04-06

Unlike any other LIVE album I've heard so far, I must say that Raphy Leavitt's 30 Aniversario LIVE is definitely a masterpiece. Sound is crisp and of an outstanding quality. Lots of work has been put into this production.

Some of the best Puerto Rican Salsa from the late-'80s........2007-06-06

Released in 1988, this CD was Raphy Leavitt's most commercially successful effort. The big hits "Noche De Boda", "Se Solicita Un Carino" and "Hombre Celoso" all got considerable airplay and vocalists Sammy Marrero and Carlos Ramirez were never better than on this superb set. Thanks to this album's success, Raphy Leavitt and Orquesta La Selecta attained the mainstream recognition that had previously eluded them. Puerto Rican Salsa at its very best.

Tricky choice for salsa neophytes.......2004-09-30

"Mi Barrio" is, if I am not mistaken, the second effort by Puerta de Tierra's (a section in Puerto Rico's San Juan) group, for Borinquen Records.

Out of the total number of tracks, I will stand out "Amor y Paz", a gem, for my taste. Others like "Mi Barrio", "Solitario", "Soldado" and "Oye Mi Bongó" are very nice songs.

Raphy Leavitt y La Selecta was a popular (and still is back in Puerto Rico and parts of Latin America, due to the nostalgia of their early songs) which recorded some unforgettable gems from Salsa history, such as "La Cuna Blanca", "Jíbaro Soy", "Payaso" and others.

There is one "bad" factor about this CD.....it looks like the mastered the CD from crappy master tapes!! No remastering to improve the sound, whatsoever! So, it is not a CD really made to enjoy in an audiophile room, or in a setting where you would like to really listen and enjoy all instruments. In fact, some of the songs got audible defects that are not common to other old albums. I mean, you can listen in some parts that it is recorded where the tapes stuck for a second into the tape player head!!

I would recommend for people looking to sample Raphy Leavitt's music their first effort, "PAYASO" (also for Borinquen Records). ALL SONGS are great songs on that CD, from number 1 through number 10.....!!! That is if you like old salsa music!! This was not a salsa band that characterized for great (or even good!!) musicianship....but it has to be admitted that many classics were penned by La Selecta!
