A good but lightweight CD that comes up short........2003-07-03

This was Tommy Olivencia's purported comeback album but it did poorly saleswise. On this CD he reunites with vocalists Paquito Guzman and Simon Perez as wellas with newcomer Melvin Martinez. Vocally, Guzman and Perez are still as good as ever- the big problem is that most of the songs are way-too-relaxed salsa romantica numbers that are the complete opposite of the progressive,swinging salsa Olivencia's band was famous for during the 1970s and '80s.

Concha Piquer has been the best Spanish typical song singer of all times. The music was composed by the best musicians of her time. Her voice is clear, caring and like an evolving caress to the ear. Her interpretation of the songs reflects beautifully all the drama contained in the stories. No one like her was able to perform her way. I invite Spanish music lovers to listen to her singing. You ought to understand the lyrics so as not to miss important aspects of her singing. Cari Clemente
