The best of latin music through Domingo's voice.......1999-08-10

This CD goes wherever I go, it is with no doubt, the queen of my collection. Medleys are wonderfully orchestrated and arranged and every song makes you travel anywhere between Mexico and Buenos Aires. Here, Domingo's voice is more like a musical instrument than anything else and each song you'll discover a new instrument. Honestly, I would personally award it six stars.

Classic Latin American tunes beautifully sung and produced,.......1998-12-11

Domingo's love for traditional Latin American music shines throughout this CD. A selection of great "standards", beautifully arranged and recorded by one of the world's great voices. "De Mexico a Buenos Aires," written by Domingo's son is the one original song on the recording and is one of many highlights here. I have listenned to this CD countless times over the past two years and it remains a delight.

I Love It.......2006-03-18

My CD was delivered right on time and it arrived in perfect conditions. I love Juan Gabriel songs, so I recommend it to anyone that likes a little of romanticism. I just love it.

A sign of things to come.......2002-06-23

After a many year hiatus from recording due to a contract dispute, Juan Gabriel recorded "Gracias por esperar" ("Thanks for waiting"). Gone is the youthful sound of a subsequently legendary musician trying to find his way. In its stead are a more mature voice, more sophisticated arrangements and a sign of some of what Gabriel would be releasing in the future. There's a bit of disco in "Vienes o voy," a hint of gospel in "Mas que amor" and a whole lot of beautiful female back-up voices in "Lentamente." The little crack in his voice that Gabriel has by now perfected begins on this album. He runs a few melancholy tunes together toward the end of the CD which slows the tempo of the whole album, but never mind that. It's an album that was indeed worth waiting for.

Mariachi Arriba Juarez is a band who has worked with Mexican composer and singer Juan Gabriel for ages so it is only fitting that they reciprocate and honor him with an album. This was made to mark the twenty fifth annivesary of Juan Gabriel in music and his contribution to popular culture in Mexcio. Enrique Barajas does a standout job of interpreting some of Gabriel's songs and for my money I prefer his voice. He doesn't try to sound like Gabriel but rather uses his own vocal strengths. Maybe it is just the thought of Gabriel singing a love song in his cute little black Zorro cape outfit that bugs me, anyway I like this guys voice better without any pretensions. There are no lack of great songs here, mostly boleros but nonetheless high quality compositions. Too many of the same style can get a little sappy but there are enough songs that are uptempo Mariachi stuff to avoid the lovers blues . Take your pick from your favorite Juan Gabriel penned numbers, be it "Amor Eterno" or "La Farsante" there are fifteen great songs here with equally solid interpretations by Mariachi Arriba Juarez. Myself I like "Hasta que te conoci" over the rest with echoes and stylings of Alejandro Fernadez by vocalist Enrique Barajas. Although his voice is not quite as deep, he does remind of me of AF at times, especially on this song. If you are in the mood for a little Juan Gabriel music without the thought of him prancing around in that Zorro outfit than this is for you. The mariachi backing is not overpowering and lets the vocals take the lead so if you like the music of Juan Gabriel and you're in that kind of bolero mood than this is disc for you. Recommended for fans of Juan Gabriel's music, with or without the Zorro cape.
