A distinct voice doing memorable traditional hits!.......2004-08-25

There's not much available to learn about this Mexican Southwest entertainer. But I do know that back in the late 70s or early 80's, I acquired an LP of his, and I have cherished it. The man's distinct voice is memorable. He is famous for doing those classic and traditional rancheras and corridos. It is difficult to obtain his music, so regardless of the quality of this CD, it is a collectable.

It's clear that many of the tracks were "remastered" and some done better than others. When less than excellent remastering is done, you can detect it. Usually a constant blaring sound comes out of one speaker while another prominent sound emits from the other side.

Most of this CD is recorded with "Banda Sinoloense while one is with the famous Mariachi Vargas. I don't care for the annoying tamboras of "banda" music. My preference is for mariachi.

So with Valenzuela's music very difficult to find, anything by him becomes acceptable. Not much comes with this CD.

The musical selections are wonderful traditional songs and with my knowledge of so many of these hits, I knew he would do them well. And he did.

You will not be disappointed in this music; unless you dislike "banda" and as I mentioned, the sound is less than great, but with the lack of choices in CDs, anything by Valenzuela is good.

To me, Gilberto Valenzuela ranks with the best in Mexican music. There is no way to describe his sound. You just have to hear him!!....MzRizz
