AS SOON AS I HEARD THAT MY #1 SINGER,MARISELA WAS GOING TO BE RECORDING AN ALBUM, HITS OF THE 50'S, 60'S AND 70'S THAT EVERYONE REMEMBERS THESE FAMOUS SONGS, I'D LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY AND SHE DID A STUPENDOUS JOB ON IT! HER STYLE MADE THE SONGS SOUND EXTREMELY DIFFERENT. MARISELA HAS HER STYLE AND NO ONE CAN EVER COPY HER STYLE, BECAUSE IF ANYONE DOES,THERE'S ONLY ONE MARISELA.

Gregorio Barrios Villabriga was born in Bilbao,Spain and due to the political persecussion his father suffered, he migrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina with his parents. Over there young Gregorio started showing an interest in music and with the help of an aunt took singing lessons. His deep voice and melody impressed everyone, including his teachers. However his singing career did not start right away, he worked in a road construction firm. There he used to sing and his co-workers encouraged him to pursue a career as a singer. His big break came in 1940 when he was given the opportunity to sing at a popular live music show broadcasted in Radio Callao. Also in 1940 Cuba's romantic bolero was at the peak of its popularity and Gregorio chose to become a bolerista, having an almost instant success, due to his powerful yet mellow voice. In 1941 he toured Brazil and was impressed with Rio de Janeiro. After this year he would go back there on musical tours on a regular basis. He became very popular with Brazilian audiences, even though 99% of his repertoire were boleros sung in his native language, spanish. He was signed to record by the German record label Odeon and his songs were recorded in Rio and Buenos Aires. During the 40's in Buenos Aires he joined as a singer "Don Americo Y Sus Caribes" an argentine based orchestra who mostly played Cuban rhytms, mainly boleros. One of his fellow members at Don Americo's was famed argentine bolerista Leo Marini. In the meantime his Brazilian tours were increasing to the point that he mentioned he would like to relocate to Brazil and namely Rio de Janeiro. In 1962 his dream finally came true and he moved there permanently, something that came almost natural with him since he was already famous in Brazil. He continued singing and recording boleros there, including a famous Lp album, which became an all time classic manufactured and distributed by Capitol Records. In Brazil he recorded for several record labels after the virtual demise of the Odeon label during the 60's. Barrios was referred to as "The King Of The Bolero" or "O Rei Do Bolero" by legions of Brazilian fans. After a long and successful career he died of a heart attack in 1978 in his home in Sao Paolo. He is remembered to this day by fans everywhere as one of the greatest boleristas of all time.
