5 out of 5 stars Outstanding. BUY THIS ALBUM.......2007-05-13

I first learned of Zoe a couple of years ago when I happened to see of one their videos on Spanish MTV and was immediately blown away. Their music really doesn't feel "Latin" at all and is more reminiscent of bands like Radiohead, Nirvana, Pulp, and Interpol than well known Latin bands like Mana. In fact, I would say their music generally blows the aformentioned anglo bands out of the water.

This album is no exception and is probably Zoe's finest to date. It's not as poppy or Beatlesesque as some of their previous works (ie, like "Love"). Instead, it has a feel that is darker, more nuanced, and layered (more like their song "Miel," for those of you who've heard it). There are some outstanding songs on this album, Memo Rex, No Me Destruyas, Paz, and Via Lactea being some of my favorites. And in addition to having great songs, the album hangs together well - each song stands on its own while fitting in well with the album as a whole.

I have no idea how well known Zoe is in Latin America, but it's a shame they are not better known in the U.S. The fact that they're not so well known is probably just an indicator of how closed and U.S.-centric music tastes tend to be in the U.S.

At any rate, this album is fantastic and is highly recommended. To those looking for their more poppy side, I'd recommend their earlier albums though.

5 out of 5 stars NUMERO UNO.......2007-02-11

yeah, Zoe make you wish your corazon was atomico. very anglo in style (it's often more interesting when artists from Latin America can insert some of their own musical tradtions into their musical style) but there is beautiful imagery in the lyrics and the songs get stuck in your head. i recommend it to anyone who might enjoy rock en espanol or brit pop, with a Mexican twist. i've had it on constant repeat for months.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for 2007.......2007-01-18

This CD is a must have for 2007.
Each song is a trip in space, in the heart and emotions.
Via Lactea, No Me Destruyas and Nunca are soon to be part of classic Spanish Rock.
Is a great produced album with greater sound of music.
Do your self a favor and pick a copy of this album:)

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful rock 'n' roll.......2005-11-13

I was watching the Latin Grammy Awards last week when I learned that La Ley was disbanding. I was dismayed, especially when the group proceeded to perform an electrifying set that rocked the house.

I always thought that Beto Cuevas was a rock star of the highest order: Sexy and piercing in his look, but intelligent and oozing sensitivy through his vocals and video performances. All the members of the band are top notch musicians, but Beto stands out. I wonder if he is going to go solo? I hope so. I really don't think I am ready to say goodbye.

My favorites on this CD are "El Duelo" -- which will move you whether you speak Spanish or not -- "Aqui," "Al Final" and "Delirando."

I recommend all La Ley's CDs: Check out "Libertad." The songs "Amate y Salvate," "Los Demas," and "Mas Alla" are superlative. If you really want to check out Beto's rock star quotient, the DVD for this Uplugged performance and for "Amate y Salvate" will make you a true believer. The earlier CDs are great too. On "Invisible," my favorites are "Deuxieme Fois" and "Dia Cero." The original version of "El Duelo" is here too.

La Ley grew and created great music over the years, just like true artists should do.

5 out of 5 stars Deserves more than 5 stars-Awesome!!!.......2005-03-26

If you are not familiar with La Ley I recommend you buy this CD and go back and buy the rest of their CD's. Beto Cuevas has a talent he has a remarkable voice it's indescribable. Hear it and you'll know what I'm talking about, you'll fall in love (if your a girl :))pair that up with the music and you have a hit. He can sing unplugged and it's so perfect that you think your hearing the radio version. La Ley is the best Latin rock group out their-it's ashame so many people have not heard of them. Hear them now and buy it-people!!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect!!!.......2004-07-19

I saw La Ley live in concert recently at Webster Hall in NYC. Words can't express how incredible this band plays live. Beto Cuevas is trully a gifted vocalist who comfortably and eloquently uses the full range of his voice and delivers a perfect performance. Their unplugged CD a good example of how talented they are. The unplugged DVD is even better.

5 out of 5 stars Unlike Mana, Deep, New and Innovative........2004-04-25

With a better lead singer and an amplitude of variety between songs in comparison to Mana, La Ley has proved once again to have taken the crown that Soda Stereo left for best latin rock band. Besides "Mentira" the rest of the songs are not commercial or "pop" like other reviews said. This album lets you connect with the band's old and new style. Songs from most of their previous albums give you some deep inside feeling to what they have emerged to since 1989. "Dia 0", a song about a person that suffers from Amnesia is my personal favorite, but other songs like "Fuera De Mi", and "Al Final", provide you with a good taste of acoustic guitar, and symphonic strings, with the never dissapointing voice of Alberto Cuevas. His performance in "The Corridor" and "Krazyworld", demonstrate his versatile knowledge of not only the English, but also the French language. If you loved Soda and you are looking for a replacement, dont settle for the repetitive Mana, La Ley is your ticket. This album is probably the one you should buy first if you dont have any. But if you're a fan like me, you know this is just another example of greatness... La Ley has yet to make a dissapointing album.

2 out of 5 stars Only if you're a fan of Mexican Pop.......2004-04-03

I love the Mana unplugged CD and DVD and think it transcends language and most musical taste. Not the case with this one. All the folks who say "If you love MTV Unplugged, you'll love this" are off-base. Mana is like the Mexican Eagles - something for everyone with amazing instrumentals and vocals. Yeah these guys can play and sing, but too mushy for my taste- think Enrique Iglesias. Plugged in, these guys probably make great Latin Pop for all the (...) girls out there.

5 out of 5 stars This is a rock en espanol CLASSIC!.......2004-11-30

Like another reviewer commented, this album will become a Rock en Espanol classic in a few years. I had the privilege of seeing this band live last year in NYC, and believe me, this band ROCKS! ALL, and I do mean ALL of the songs in this album are absolutely INCREDIBLE. This band has more creative talent than almost any other band out there, period. Listen to DIA CERO, that song will blow you away. Anyway, JUST BUY IT!!!

      5 out of 5 stars Invisible...Incredible!.......2004-09-30

As I have delved into all of La Ley's music, being a relative newcomer to their sound, I found myself more and more drawn to the incredible music on Invisible. Now it's my fasvorite of all of their albums. If you have ever heard or read Beto's story about the name of the album, then you have some insight into why this album touches the listener on so many levels. 4 of the songs were co-written by the late Andres Bobe, and their inclusion is a touching and fitting homage to him, especially when you consider how deeply his death affected the band. I'd have to say that this album defines La Ley--some of their biggest hits come from it. 2 songs that to this day remind me of the band, especially Beto, thumbing his nose at those who thought the band was over or who sought to make $$ from Bobe's death are Dia Cero and Cielo Market. To see La Ley perform these songs live is to share those raw emotions. This album belongs in any music lover's collection!

5 out of 5 stars This CD marked a new beginning for La Ley!.......2004-06-08

"Invisible" is La Ley's third full-length album and radically changed when compared to the first two, "Doble Opuesto ana "La Ley", which were more rock/electronic. This CD was made after the death of their former guitarist, Andres Bobe, and has a different sound to it. Every song in this CD is greatly inspired and has an enormous amount of dept in its lyrics. The music is also very beautiful, it has a harder rock style that wasn't heard in the previous CD's. La Ley fans around the world will all tell you the same, this is La Ley's most inspired piece of work ever. If you only want to buy one La Ley CD, it should be this one... Or the Unplugged.

5 out of 5 stars The return of La Ley without Bobe aims for their best album........2004-04-25

Absolutely splendid. The best latin rock album I have yet to purchase and hear. The album provides both a soft and sentimental sound in songs like "The Corridor" and "Dia 0", as well as a fast and upbeat rock with great drumline in "El Duelo". "Animal" is a great first track that kind of sets the mood of the album, with a great intro and some deep lyrics. While "Invisible", "1-800 Dual", "Fausto" and "El Rey" are not characterized as the best songs in the album simply because they were matched up with songs like "Cielo Market", a piece explaining the tragic side of humans and their egoism. It is impossible to pick a favorite song from this album since they are all so very well written and produced. This is La Ley's most elucrative and colorful album, it will surely be considered as one of the latin rock classics. With Pedro Frugone's first appearance as a band member, the sounds of Bobe will never be forgotten, but the new lineup of La Ley falls nothing short of its accustomed quality.

THE VOCALS OF BETO CUEVAS ARE LIKE NO OTHER SO- ANYTHING THAT HE SINGS SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL. THIS ALBUM YOU HAVE "FUERA DE MI" WHICH IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS ON THIS ALBUM. YOU HEAR THE INTENSITY OF HIS VOICE ON THIS SONG AND YOU CAN'T HELP, BUT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH HIS VOICE. FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT HARD UP ON WHAT THEY SOUNDED LIKE 8 OR 10 YEARS AGO, BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN SINGING FOR YEARS -I THINK THIS A WORTH THE MONEY AND YOU WILL BECOME A FAN. THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE NOW BECAUSE THEY HAVE GROWN AND I HOPE MORE PEOPLE START TAKING NOTICE OF THIS TALENTED BAND SO, THAT WE CAN KEEP HEARING BRILLIANT MUSIC FROM LA LEY. BUY MTV UNPLUGGED IN DVD AND CD THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT BUY HE SINGS BETTER THAN ANYBODY I'VE HEARD UNPLUGGED.

3 out of 5 stars And the intensity diminishes...........2005-01-18

After listening to La Ley since 1989 and watching this band mutate, grow and chomp the head out of other latin rock artists, from the tame and pophook-filled "doble opuesto" to full on creativeness of "Invicible" to the underrated, more intellingent (and darker even) than "Vertigo",let me tell you my friends, this is a HUGE let down.
La Ley has been known to push latin american music forward. The use of electronics and production gadgets to create warm, intense, beautiful and ethereal atmospheres with great beats and amazing guitar work is just a memory.
"Uno" pales next to any of these albums.
Now don't get me wrong... 75% of this album is as epic and gorgeous as the rest, but the latter half of this album sounds like filler. You can almost catch glimpses of what could have been on "Verano Espacial" (which is about safe sex, believe it or not).
But considering all they were doing with music, it seems they're more interested in making mainstream marketable records than actually exploring they potential, which I am sure, had they continued down the path they were going, they would have made the best album in latin rock history.
      It's really a shame...
Nonetheless, they're still great musician. My problem with this record is that after listening to INVICIBLE and VERTIGO (my favorite) this just doesn't hold up, neither does all the new music it's been putting out.
On the other hand it's completly understandable since latin artists are sort of force to put out commercial music. It happened to mexican popstar FEY, whose bubble gum, preppy, teenage music morphed into sophisticatedly dense and cerebral tecno, which got her fired from Sony Music and whose album "VERTIGO" was acclaimed by critics as her best and boo-ed by latin audieces.
Either way, this album is still likable. But not anyway near their best.

5 out of 5 stars Nueva etapa pero siguen igual de fuertes!.......2004-06-10

4 out of 5 stars Different and entretaining........2004-04-25

A 180 degree shift from Vertigo, Uno is more of Invisible, but with greater mainstream sound. Dont get me confused, "Fuera De Mi" and "Al Final" are two of La Ley's best songs, and the album maintains a good complexity around itself, but it lacks that power Invisible left in aura after you were through with it. "Aqui" and "Eternidad" are great songs with simple chords that allow Beto's voice to reach a great potential. Uno is an album less upbeat than Vertigo and it concentrates more in the after life and spirit like themes, but it does not lack power. It opens and ends great. Look out for the song Garden not listed in the tracklist, but definately added after the end of "Al Final", just keep you Cd player rolling. With a new "European" look la Ley leaves behing their Gothic apperance, and concentrate in new endeveaors, following them are a diverse audience they have captivated from their different styles of music and looks.

5 out of 5 stars Muy buen Disco.......2003-12-31

      3 out of 5 stars Remembering Zapata.......2000-05-08

If you like high energy Rock en Espanol mixed with lyrics that sing of revolutionary causes, this is a CD for you. This band plays a nice blend of ska, reggae, ragamuffin rapping and hard core punk puntuated by percussion and horns. The bands strength are it's biting lyrics which sing of injustices, historical glimpses of the Spanish Civil War, the KKK and Frida Kahlo, among other themes. There is one song in English (and Spanish) entitled "Spanish Bombs" that has a pop tune quality that is sung by the female of the group. Another song in English is called "Conscience Call" which is reminiscent of the "Clash" The standout song is the title track which begins with an Azteca sounding conch shell and flute backed by a pounding drum before they begin to rock. The song is about revolution and the spirit of Zapata, tierra y libertad. A superb song that should be heard by all Rock en Espanol fans. Another good song is a homage of sorts to Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter who lived a tortured existence because of an accident that left her crippled. She made the best of life marrying Diego Rivera and dedicating her life to painting and left leaning politics. There are several guest musicians of note including Manu Chao and other members of the defunct French/Spanish band "Mano Negra". They followed this CD up with another release entitled "Contra-Revolution Ave" whose title pokes fun at the famous tourist street visited in Tijuana. Tijuana No is message music with a beat.

      5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation.......2006-02-02

La Ley is and will forever be known as one of the greatest bands that ever existed. Their sound is ultimately unique to any other band in the "rock en espanol" movement. Their catchy lyrics and sounds have made them extremely popular. It is a shame, however, that after fifteen years this great band is saying goodbye to the rock scene. In my opinion, it is a good idea to leave on a high note. Historias e Histeria captures some of the greatest songs of this amazing band. Songs like El Duelo, Doble Opuesto, Amate y Salvate, Aqui, Histeria and Mirate could be found in this CD. In my opinion, it is a job well done and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys great music.

4 out of 5 stars buy this for the dvd.......2005-09-24

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I disagree with one reviewer that la Ley is one of the worst bands ever. La Ley put out some great albums early in their career, but had fallen to commercialism in the past years with a very safe and predictable sound. That's happened to other great bands, like U2 for example, this doesn't mean that these guys dont have talent, in fact they are great musicians, specially the guys that have left the band (bobe-rip, aboitiz & rojas)and Beto Cuevas has a great voice and is (or was) a good lyricist.
The CD leans towards the latter years, hence more commercial music less art. But the DVD includes all of their videos and that's where the value is, they have chosen very good video directors and they are good performers on the videos. Overall the CD takes one star off, but the DVD is great.

4 out of 5 stars La cancion HISTERIA hace el disco..........2005-06-03

5 out of 5 stars La Ley; the best.......2005-06-01

La Ley is one of the best bands today, this cd shows how great they are. Along the way, they have faced many obstacles like the death of the founder and lead guitarrist Andres Bobe, but they were still able to perfrom and creat great music. I would recommend this CD for anyone that likes spanish rock. This CD is a masterpiece!!!

2 out of 5 stars Great band, weak compilation.......2005-05-11

La Ley is one of the best pop rock bands in Latin America. However, this album, which was released as a compilation of the band's works, falls short of showcasing the band's work in all their splendor. You are better off getting a copy of just about any of their albums: truly, it's hard to go wrong with them. So I don't know who would be responsible for picking tracks on this compilation, but they are doing the guys a disservice.

5 out of 5 stars Emotional Latin Music.......2007-03-08

I think this guy has an amazing voice. The melodies, vocals and orchestrations of the songs on this album are excellent. I like almost everyone - and I'm not easy to please with music.

      5 out of 5 stars A must-have album.......2006-05-03

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is my favorite La Ley album out of all of them (I'm not counting Unplugged as an album; it's in its own category). The more I listen to this CD, the more I like it. Most of it is mid-tempo ballads rather than fast songs. It has more depth than some of their other ones; meaning, almost all of the songs are good, rather than there being just two hits and a bunch of filler (see, eg, Uno), and the songwriting has matured so the melodies and verse work together better than in the past. If you're wondering whether it's worth it to buy their last album, the answer is definitely yes-- this shows that they didn't break up because they ran out of ideas or talent.

5 out of 5 stars Best Kept Secret in Latin Music.......2006-04-16

This is one of my all time favorite albums. It is deeply emotional and beautiful in its voice and rhythms. Its a great intro into Latin pop, although it is well above the distinction of pop, falling more into the real of latin soul. If you don't own this album, you should.

      2 out of 5 stars De desacuerdo.......2005-03-27

5 out of 5 stars Buy it - La Ley is worth the money........2005-03-26

Don't hate. These guys compose, play their own instruments and too boot they have a good looking vocalist that can actually sing. He has the most angelic voice and it shows in MTV unplugged that he can sing. You have a mix of songs "Sabes Quien Eres" is Rock while "Amate Y Salvate" is one of my favorite songs of La Ley. Then you have "Mas Alla" which is awesome. Buy it you will become a fan these guys are unique you can't say their rock because I wouldn't agree with that label. I can only tell you that you won't be disappointed if you buy the CD. Also, buy MTV Unplugged DVD and CD you will diffentely see that La Ley is the best group Latinos have out there.
