The Fania All Stars with the most soulful sonero ever........2004-05-17

Pete "Conde" Rodriguez was the most soulful sonero ever (he could literally challenge the great soul singers with his soulful and powerful singing style). This compilation focuses on his work with the Fania All Stars and includes both studio-recorded and live material. His superb duet with Celia Cruz ("Encantigo") is reason enough for buying this CD but the live versions of "Pueblo Latino" and "Macho Cimarron" are also incredibly good. Real salsa at its best with plenty of soul and sabor!

Pedro Juan Rodriguez Ferrer, born on January 31st, 1932 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he acquired the nickname "El Conde" (The Count) because of his noble bearing and majestic stage presence has sadly past away some years ago. But his memory lives on in this excellent collection of hits done with the help of the Fania All-Stars! Any fan of classic salsa will want to add this gem to their collection and keep his memory alive. Que descanse en paz boricua!
