After returning from my honeymoon in Mexico, I was thirsting for Mariachi music and I came across this album while perusing Amazon lists and 5 stars just isn't a high enough ranking in my opinion. The music sounds instantly classic and hints at some by gone era that you would want to lose yourself in and leaves you thirsting for more.

this is the premier mariachi in Mexico. This group is very well known and their recording of Valses Mexicanos is superb.

Simply delightful.......2007-02-04

I knew nothing about Mexican music before I bought this CD. When I heard a selection on the radio, I knew I had to have it.

I don't know if I've learned anything about Mexican music now, but I do know that this CD is one of the most delightful I have in my collection. The playing is beautiful, the music sweet; it makes you want to get up and waltz around the room. I have never grown tired of listening to it.

The waltz is part of Mexico's musical tradition. This cd is a nice perspective of Mexico's most known waltzes. Including in the cd are works by the waltz master Juventino Rosas.Rosas' Sobre Las Olas won international recognition to the point that Europeans refused to believe it was his piece; they thought it was Strauss who composed it. Other popular works include Carmen, Cuando Escuches Este Vals, Alejandra, and Dios nunca Muere; all very popular,daedal and well known waltzes. The latter mentioned pieces have been song by mariachi singers such as Javier Solis, Pedro Infante, and Vicente Fernandez. If you were looking for a good waltz cd then get this one. You won't be disappointed.

I really enjoy classical music of all types, from Mozart to Tchaikovsky, but this album is one of a kind and it gives you a feeling that no other classical music album does.

Refined & sophisticated .......2007-04-23

This is a terrific recording of early waltz music from Mexican composers. The waltz was very popular in early 19th century Mexican society apparently arriving from France. The collection of music featured on this disc is very relaxing. Performed by the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the outstanding musicians create an ambience that is elegant, refined and dignified. The chosen works are mostly by little known composers who were on the outskirts of society, in complete contrast to those for whom the music was created and performed for, high society. The complete disc is a masterpiece but there are several songs that standout. The lovely "Rio Rosa" is a fitting tribute for a song written for a film of the 1920's actress Ann Harding; the music is a beautiful romantic piece. Another lovely piece, and is probably the most well known Mexican waltz, "Sobre Las Olas," was written by Juventino Rosas and performed here in style and grace. As stated previously, all of the works presented here are outastaning and deserving of your attention , especially if you like elegant, calming music. Recommended for all listeners of fine music.

Album Description

Mexico was not only swayed by the dizziness of the European waltz, but in the late 19th Century Mexicans also enjoyed the plentiful music of native composers. The Mexican waltz is much more than a simple "contagion". It has accents of its own; it is the answer to a particular taste. We consider the waltz a sort of bridge between what is called "Classical Music" and popular music. This recording consists, on one hand, of walzer for piano, on the other, of waltzes that never were "written", literary speaking. Instead, the authors gave the performer the liberty of associating instuments and improvising the harmony, like in jass. It is the case, for example, of Olympica, Duda and Morir por tu Amor, of which Miguel Garcia Mora offers us a very personal version developed with the valuable colaboration of the composer Eduardo Hernandez Moncada.

Album Description

The Mexican waltz appeared thanks to European influence, although our personality and char-ac-teris-tics were lent to them. The waltzes collected here stem from the last years of 19th Cen-tury to the forties of 20th Century. Like the previous CD, these waltzes are performed by the same kind of ensemble by which they were originally played.
